A friend directed me to D & S Garden Supplies and contacted Matthew about picking up 3 bags of Foxfarm Ocean Forest soil for my plumeria and a dragonfruit cutting. Matthew, the owner was great at giving me directions: "by the Welcome San Leandro sign (going Northbound) and drive down the driveway". Found D & S Garden Supplies in an industrial building with no issue! Gardening supplies like fertilizer, hydroponic nutrients, various soil brands, plant cages (including dragonfruit) and many other items...just ask. Place has been around for 30 years, open to the public with reasonable pricing. Located in a very non-descript building in the industrial area and probably why I never knew this wonderful spot existed! I'll definitely return for the friendly service and well-stocked garden items soon. Be sure to do a Yelp review...well deserved 5 stars! :D read more

Met the Owner Matt, he's a cool nice guy, remember his customers, he explained to me the misunderstanding we had on my previous review (oohh Ya he remembers lol), I misunderstood what was said, I just "assumed" he told someone but overall my experience with DS Garden supplies been 5 star, the forklift guy was very helpful, the ladies at the front are always on top of stuff and the owner Matt I believe reviews all orders too so very efficient business! My husband and I recently purchased a new home and have no clue as to how to manage our yard. It was as though everything ugly was completely overgrown on steroids and all things beautiful (roses, hydrangeas, fruit trees) were dying!! I yelped D & S not realizing it was a hydrophonics shop. I dont know why they received several 1 star reviews, I was very pleased with the services I received. I came in on a tuesday afternoon and the warehouse was extremely busy. I was promptly assisted by Tony -he had a strong Vietnamese accent and appeared intimidating with all of his tattoos. I was shocked at how much this tatooed man knows about gardening, making my life that much easier! I don't have a green thumb, arm, leg, toe or anything to maintain my jungle of a yard. Tony gave me the basic garden and yard survival kit, much cheaper than what I could find at Osh. +4 stars for service and price +1 star for being local -love it! read more

Came accross these guys during a hvac build in oakland. I needed some special air control and filtration systems components for an indoor grow facility. Not only are these guys stock these parts, but if not they can get pretty much what ypu need in a few days. Not just an ordinary hydroponic, fertilizer, and plant store. But the have the experience and knowledge to help with the other attributes that some green thumbers may have issues with. But it wasn't just the beauty of the arrangements that impressed me most - it was the heart, thought, and care that went into every single piece, and that really shined through on the day of. We inquired over a year in advance after seeing Lana's work at The Club at Ruby Hill wedding open house. Lana was responsive and took the time to go over everything I was envisioning for the day, from centerpieces to arches to aisle pieces to bouquets. When I brought up the idea of a floral chandelier, Lana was so excited to bring my vision to life and work with me to create the chandelier of my dreams, which was refreshing, since some other florists I'd inquired with weren't as enthusiastic about the idea. Lana is also super transparent with pricing, going through line by line what each piece would cost, and I found her rates very reasonable for the luxurious arrangements she offers. I also loved that I'd be able to reuse my ceremony arch and aisle pieces at the reception to surround the sweetheart table, which felt very much worth it. We also got a one-hour in-person design meeting with Lana about a month before the wedding, where she prepped a sample centerpiece and made real-time adjustments to her floral recipe based on our preferences. She was so receptive and detail-oriented, going over small things like where to leave the bouquets and boutonnieres on the day of, plus all the candle and centerpiece base options we could choose from. We were feeling a little burnt out from wedding planning by that point in our lives, but Lana left us with renewed enthusiasm and excitement for our wedding. On wedding day, Lana and her team were there bright and early. I think the first sight of the florals brought me to tears. They worked hard all day to transform the venue into the pink peachy princess wedding of my dreams. The team also added smaller bud vases to my In Loving Memory table and Sweetheart table, which was such a sweet touch. Despite being so busy, Lana still took the time to secure my personal bouquet charm so it wouldn't dangle around and would stay in place. I also found out afterward that our welcome banner was falling due to the wind, and Lana took the time to secure it with rope, even though it was completely outside her scope. It really speaks to her character, and I couldn't be more grateful to Lana and the team for a perfect day. Dream Flowers really was an absolute dream to work with. I would highly recommend Lana and the team for any of your future floral needs!!

I ordered online last year and asked for something elegant for a birthday. I didn't know what to expect as I chose up to the florist and whatever is in season. The recipient really liked her flowers and was thoroughly surprised. It lasted quite a while. I'm sure it looked more beautiful in person. I plan to order again this year.

I recently had an unfortunate experience at this store. After paying for my soil order in full, they gave my order to another customer that did not pay. It was loaded into their car first and they didn't even have a receipt! Shockingly, the person who took my order claimed to be the owner's aunties and it appears that this connection was enough to override a paying customer's reservation. This kind of preferential treatment is deeply unprofessional and unfair to loyal customers who expect to be treated with respect and integrity. I have spent thousands of dollars here and will no longer come back. Mistakes can happen, but how they're handled matters. In this case, there was no apology, no offer to make things right, just a sense that certain people come first. We all want to support local businesses, but trust is key. I hope the store rethinks its policies and chooses fairness over favoritism moving forward. read more

Updating my review - this place has definitely expanded so much since I was last here. The shop has so much to offer - and the selection is just endless. We just picked up tons of dirt for my backyard - prices were so competitive and the staff was amazing. We stopped by Mr Flower, a small succulent shop off International, and were immediately greeted by the man himself. Contrary to popular belief, Mr Flower does not speak Vietnamese. He was very helpful and enthusiastically showed us a variety of beautiful plants ranging from $4 to $15 (we were only looking at small-midsized plants). After we found what we needed, he showed us some behind-the-scenes action of his operation (aka succulent propagation), and his wife came out to help us check out. They only accept cash. It was a pleasure working with this lovely couple and we will return soon!

She had devoted a large amount of social media content for the new plants that she acquired, particularly from local gardeners and nurseries. After commenting on a couple, she knew I was very intrigued by this Tender Gardener, from whom she made many nice purchases from. During my birthday, she and another colleague purchased a gift card for me. Shortly, I had spent a long time looking through the items they offered. Over the course of 3 months, I noticed they restock on a lot of items that sell out (means their business is doing many things right), and them carrying a lot of exotic items that I have never seen before. Their website also offers a lot of insightful articles that help customers make informed decisions and care for the precious pieces that they purchase. Another great thing about The Tender Gardener is that they offer free Friday deliveries, for purchases of over $30, for Oakland and San Francisco (and have since expanded). I ended up purchasing two plans (photos uploadeded) for a friend who recently purchased a home in Oakland. The purchase, delivery, and service was phenomenal.
