D&T Garage in Lewes, Delaware, has been a trusted ally for over 11 years. They've come to my rescue multiple times, including when I needed a new alternator in December 2024 after a breakdown on Coastal Highway They're experts at diagnosing problems. They used dye to find the oil leak and figured out that the engine oil gasket was the culprit. They fixed it up and my car was running like a charm again. Jason, the mechanic, took the time to explain everything in detail, so I felt totally confident. The steering issue was a bit nerve-wracking, but Jason showed me how the tires had play in them and made me realize I had to tackle this problem head-on. They offered a fair price and replaced the assembly. During the process, they also checked my brake pads and rotors and fixed them up. WAS a returning customer until two and half weeks ago, walking in and seeing grandson Chris is back "running and being sold shop". Got an oil change, handed him my money he said "looks good" put my money in desk draw, said "alright see you next time" and walked AWAY! I was owed $14 in CHANGE! Last time i was there i paid in cash and The Lady Dawn Pulled Her Wallet Out Of Her Back Pack And Gave me my exact Change.... Best mechanic experience I could ever hope for! Was in Lewes visiting folks. On the day I was to drive back to Jersey (4 hours), my car struggled to turn over, and when it did, all the warning lights came on. AWD, Emissions, Power Steering, etc. I figured a low voltage issue (my Dad wasn't closing his door forcibly, so maybe a light had been left on), but wasn't 100%, so I wanted someone to give it a look. Tried the big name places, they wouldn't see me for 3 days. I called D&T, on the phone they figured the same low voltage issue, and I should be fine. They could have insisted on me bringing it in and gotten themselves a sale, but effectively gave me a free consult. I asked them if I could bring it in just to have a look, and they said they would see me. This was at 3:15, and they closed at 5. I brought it in,they had cars in the lot and 2 on the lift, and they still prioritized my issue. Spent an hour going through diagnostics, clearing each error, checking the coils, until they confirmed it was the voltage issue we anticipated. Charged me just $72, and when I tipped them another $25 for taking care of me last minute, they could not have been more surprised and gracious. This is the kind of place you pray exists in every town, and should be the go-to for every Lewesian. Again, I don't live in Delaware, but I am envious of all who do for having a place like D&T to rely on for auto repair. read more

Tom has many years of car repair experience, and even works on & diagnoses Mercedes Benz issues. If he doesn't have the capability to fix something, he'll tell you. At least he takes the time to explain why. He's a genuine, good-hearted person and very knowledgeable. Sometimes he gets swamped with vehicles in for repair, so it may take a week or two, but he always gives a reasonable price for his work--much less than a dealership would charge. This area of Delaware, where services are so limited, is very fortunate to have him as a resource! read more

Our daughters car all of a sudden had all of the lights flashing and being new to the area I started to look around for a shop that could service a Subaru, that's when I stumbled across D & T GARAGE with all 5 star reviews. Just to let you know we were a little reserved but after talking to Tom and having the SUV towed it was an excellent decision. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Found this place 30 minutes after another big brand shop told me I'd have to wait 2 days for a repair. I traveled from two hours away and needed to return home no later than the next day. They told me to come within minutes of making the call. Quick, honest, quality service. And Diane is an ANGEL. One day my wife's old but low mileage Honda Accord started right up but wouldn't move forward or back. Thought it was the transmission. We're new to Delaware, so I picked D&T based on Yelp reviews. Tom said it sounded like maybe the transmission or a linkage. I had it towed over the next day. The driver said the transmission seemed okay but one wheel was locked (Thank you First State Towing, and State Farm roadside assistance). Called Tom later and he said it was all done. They had freed up the rear wheel, the emergency brake locked. When I picked it up he said no charge. Thank you, thank you Tom. I'm your customer for life. Please note-D&T looks like what it is, an auto repair and collision shop. No nice waiting room, no TV, no coffee lounge. Just nice people who do the job at the right price(even free). read more

I brought my car in as the breaks were making noise. He let me know that salt can do that to breaks here on the coast and that my breaks actually look amazing. We are new to the area so I did not know this could happen living by the ocean. He could've easily lied and told me I needed new breaks and he didn't. Plus he didn't charge me a penny. Finally found myself a trust-worth shop. Knowledgeable, friendly, honest, and also has that mom and pop feel. Been fighting with my former maintenance shop since May. Hundreds of dollars spent to no avail. I called Tom and he took the time to talk to me and hear me out about the problems I was having, what's been done and walked me through my options and I felt included in the troubleshooting process. Avoid this Shop!!! Had a transmission problem. Went there, and they "fixed it." A few days later and $1300.00 later, it leaked again. To their credit, they took it back, replaced the valve again. Still leaked (by the way, after I picked it up, parked at the Bank and I could not get it out of park. Guy came, went under the truck and "tightened" something. I guess they forgot.) I have now called at least 8 times. Every single time, I get the owner, "Well, we need to order a transmission pump." I say "ok, how much is that?" I get no answers. Every time I call, they are looking for a transmission pump. Over and over. I am assuming it costs a lot to take the transmission apart and they want nothing to do with it. It is not good service to say the least. I called again this Monday, again Wednesday. To the same old song and dance--we can't find it, someone is going to call me and I'll call you right back. In this case, 1 star is warranted. How many times do they want me to call? read more

I tried to take my truck here driving home from a military training event. It was a Sunday and google said it was open, but it turned out to be closed. My truck was not going any further. The owner here was such a nice guy and let me wait on the lot with my truck until the tow truck could get there. He was more than willing and went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. If I lived in the area this gentleman would get all my business. He is a true and genuine human. Rare these days and even rarer in the automotive industry. Got us out of an ugly spot. Our family had nowhere to stay on a Saturday evening when the car unexpectedly broke down (Mercedes E350) and Tom worked on our car and FIXED IT in 4 hours non-stop. He was going to work on Sunday if necessary so we could continue our trip to Virginia. He and his wife are sweet as pie and just good people. I live in MA but would take my car there if I could. 100% recommended, the reviewer that says had a car there for 7 months and everything broke must be either a lie or sour grapes for other reason, I do not believe it for one second Tom did that. This is an update to my previous review. IT GOT EVEN WORSE. The shop I had my vehicle towed to has fixed it and said it WAS NOT an exhaust manifold as we were told by Tom. So we are now wondering WHY our vehicle was kept at this shop for 7 months and NOTHING was done to it except taking it apart, breaking the computer, the radio no longer works.. They say their priority is customer satisfaction. NOT!!!!! Never once called us and when confronted could not even explain WHY he kept our vehicle so long.
