Let me set the scene: I'm pregnant and hormonal on a 7 hour road trip to Twin Lakes. My fiancé pulls over so we can get some air. I calm down feel better. We start driving off into the desert. Two minutes later we hear a *thud *thud *thud. We pull over and we have a terrible flat. My fiancé puts on the spare while the sun sets, but we still have 4 hours until we get to Twin Lakes. We're driving in the pitch dark, middle of the desert, deciding what to do next. We take a chance by stopping in Bishop to go to DJs Auto which is open 24 hours. I'm not going to lie, this plot seemed like the intro to a terrible horror movie...This mama to be was nervous but as soon as meeting DJ all worries were swept away. This man is passionate, an OG of his trade, and completely selfless. He told us stories of saving a child who was locked in a trunk near Area 51, DJ was the first on the scene. He's helped people get back onto the road during trying times like ours, and worse! You can tell he loves what he does and helps because he believes in humanity. This sounds nutty but he said it himself "you get into this world what you put out". He didn't even expect a payment for repairing our flat. (Of course we generously tipped). This man is the desert dwelling guardian angel of 395. The light of the end of a tunnel for so many stories that could have turned out so dim. My only regret was not taking a picture of his motorcycle DJ has on his lot that was used in Mad Max. DJ Installed an iron rod cart so that he can take his dog out for a ride too. Garage door would not open. The technician quoted prices for individual items that amounted to about $1,500. In the end he was here for about 45 minutes and charged us over $2,000. In looking on the internet the price for a similar repair averages about $1,000. I would caution you against hiring this company. read more

I had a broken spring on my garage door. I talked to them service man was on time. he took apart the roller & spring to see what would be needed. When he gave me the price I was stunned. More than double of a previous estimate. When I declined I found that I would owe $175 for what was done. We were able to negotiate a better price, but felt blindsided about the $175 and the original price. The end result was satisfactory, but D J Garage Doors should have been more upfront with me. read more

On our drive up to Lake Sabrina my check engine light came on. We made it back into town, but it was nearly 7pm on a Friday. Thankfully my wife found DJ's shop and saw it was open 24-7... wow! So we drove over immediately because you don't want to mess with a "check engine" error. DJ was a super nice and genuine guy. He plugged into my '12 Audi Q5 and pulled the error code. Basically my turbo had an under boost error, but thankfully it wasn't anything critical. DJ tested the car and it was performing well. (I just wanted to make sure I wasn't driving on anything critical since we live all the way back in San Diego.) DJ reset the check engine light and for us and sent us on our way. I asked him what I owed him and he refused to take any money for the diagnostic. Wow. What a stand up guy! You can tell he loves working with people and genuinely cares. Got great, friendly service on a Sunday afternoon. We went offroading and got a flat tire thinking it would spoil our trip. But DJ saved us. He met us at his shop and fixed our flat tire and installed it back onto our SUV. I didn't ask before hand how much it would cost, but after fixing everything, DJ said it wasn't perfect and took longer than he expected, offering a complementary service. It didn't take more than an hour and we were able to do a few more offroading trails and the tire has been fine. We ended up giving DJ a tip since he didn't want to charge us. He's awesome read more

My daughters car broke down after Crowley Lake and she was headed to Our cabin at June Lake which was over 45 min away. I looked in Yelp and D.J. Auto Service had good reviews. He went out to help my daughter and towed her car to his place which is located in a trailer park. It was difficult to find the problem so he had a mechanic in town work with him and was in contact constantly with them. We felt we could trust him and her car got fixed at a good price. My cousin's car broke down on the way from Carson City, NV to Los Angeles. I was on a family camping trip way up hwy 168 and my engine blew on my Dodge Ram 1500, it was Saturday night and we were heading home Sunday morning. DJ was the only place open. Upon calling him he suggested he help me guide my truck down the mountain instead of tow it cause that would cost. He showed up right away helped guide me down following me with his pusher truck, then pushed me all the way to his shop. He said don't worry about money but I gave him what was in my pocket ($27) and that was ok with him. He also let me keep my truck there cause I had no way of getting it back to riverside. This guy is the best!! My trailer had a broken leaf spring when I arrived in Bishop. Parts in Bishop can be hard to come by but Howard at NAPA parts was able to overnight it from Fresno. I called other mechanics in Bishop to see if they could help and the answer was no. I called another mobile RV repair in Bishop and they ended up flaking on me 2 different times. They said that they could come up. Long story short...I should have checked Yelp first. DJ and his Tech. we're ready to come to me 2 hours after my call. There are not enough words to describe how absolutely wonderful DJ is. After reading the great reviews he had on google, I called DJ at 3pm on a Saturday when our transmission warning light came on in our BMW X3 after we had taken it up some steep off-road adventures. Needless to say, I was shocked when he picked up. Every other repair shop was closed for the weekend and I thought it was a long shot that he would be open. Was coming back from Lake Tahoe and as we passed Bishop, Ca. my car decided to die, literally. It turned off in the middle of driving. We call DJ and he did his best to get to us. Though he had other clients to tend to, he eventually got to us at around 9pm at our hotel that we got since there was no way we were going to make it. He was thorough and friendly and was nice enough to come even thought it was super late. He identified the problem, but would not be able to fix it until later the next day. We ended up towing because we had to come back to work in LA, but when we offered to pay for his diagnosis he refused to take out money. We popped a tire leaving Bishop, he was the only person we could get a hold of as it was a Sunday afternoon and everything else was closed. He fixed the tire, offered us ice, checked all of our tire pressure and equalized them, and noticed a lug-nut was bent and remedied that as well. Some of the most friendly service we've ever had, he's humble and kindhearted, with an obvious love of helping people and making human connection in the process. DJ is one of the most amazing people I've had the good fortune to meet. My car broke down about 30 miles south of Bishop on a Sunday evening. Nobody else was open so we were really hoping he was good since he was the only choice. He gladly hopped in his truck and drove down with his sweet dog and checked out the car. It turns out we were just low on coolant and he topped it off, checked the radiator pressure and made sure it would be ok for the drive back to LA, and made us promise to call when we got home safely. We were panicked in Mammoth when some warning lights came on knowing everywhere was closed on Sunday and we had to get back to LA - we called DJ and he drove in to the shop to meet us. I don't post too many Yelp reviews, but DJ is, bar none, the best. I have a older suburban I keep at the Bishop airport that was sputtering on start up. I'm only in the area every couple of weeks so its difficult to get the car into a shop. I called DJ, he came to the airport picked up the truck, ran the diagnostics and for an insanely reasonable price had it running perfectly again. But that's not the end of this story. I fly into Bishop airport in a small plane and on the way in the electrical coupling on the alternator broke. I can either leave the plane there, fly in an aircraft mechanic after the weekend to replace a coupling. So I called DJ, sent him a picture of the coupling and he went to the auto parts store, picked up the coupling, came to the airport and installed it on my plane engine. The thing ran perfectly on the way home and my aircraft mechanic was very complimentary of the job he did. I was so grateful I had to mail him a gift. It is so rare to find people who give a sh&t and try to be helpful. DJ is a rare find. He is honest, humble, diligent, thorough and caring. Look no further. On our way from bishop heading to McGee creek on the 395 our vehicle began to overheat. My husband reconnected the hose that apparently detached. However some how me managed to lose the radiator cap. We searched everywhere. Couldn't find it. I was getting anxious as it was a Saturday about 330pm. As I was looking for a mechanic on yelp it showed most places were closed on Saturday. Saw DJ auto services was open 24/7. What a lifesaver!!! DJ went to auto store picked up the items we needed and drove out to our location. About 20 miles from bishop. The hotel I was staying at gave me his card. I called him on a Saturday evening. He came to my hotel, very professional, took a look and with in 5 minutes fixed the issue. Stuck there for 7.5 hours in 105 degree weather when God sent me and Angel. One phone call and my life changed. DJ met me after the tow truck finally showed up. DJ gives me hope that there are still incredible and kind human beings in the world! Trans started smoking and leaking fluid on the way up to mammoth from bishop. I called DJ after 5pm on the sunday before memorial day, suffice to say i thought i was screwed. However DJ came to the rescue within 20 minutes came to me on the side of the road. Luckily trans was just overfilled and bled fluid so no biggie, but DJ spent almost an hour making sure i was good to go, and didnt charge me a dime for his help.
