There were boxes of wine everywhere and that bothered me. It really threw off the vibe. I was seated right away, and my waiter, Chris, was friendly. He walked me through their extensive menu of wines and even recommended a few. I decided to try a sweet wine flight, and he tried to warn me that it was very sweet, but I didn't listen. The flight was super sweet. There wasn't a single one that I enjoyed. Chris did recommend another wine, Fragolino, and I loved it. I could've drank it all day. I wanted a bottle of it to go, but sadly, they were out. Hopefully, when I return, it will be in stock. Next visit, I'll go with something not so sweet.

Our server was super chill and helpful at suggesting wines. We got 2 reds that were a little on the sweeter side which was great because I want to get more into reds but they're usually too dry or too sweet and these were perfect. We didn't get any food since we were heading to eat afterwards. But the menu looked like it was pretty decent. We'll definitely have to come back to try it. I really enjoyed that the owner was there and working. The extra care for the company shows in how well it's kept! Overall, I definitely suggest you check it out. Super cute for a quick date night like we did, a girls night or just to check it out.

A Hidden Gem Worth Finding…read more The day after the World Cup Final, we needed to find a place for lunch near our Airbnb. Sometimes those unplanned stops turn into the best discoveries, and that's exactly what happened at The Glass Cat. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Berkley, our server. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home. She knew the menu well and wasn't shy about making recommendations, which always earns extra points in my book. She told us The Glass Cat is known for their biscuits. I laughed and admitted, "I'm really not a biscuit guy." She smiled and insisted I at least try a half order. Well... she was right that they were good, but I've officially confirmed I'm still just not a biscuit guy. Nothing against theirs--I think I'm simply impossible to impress when it comes to biscuits! Since I'm familiar with this part of the country, I couldn't pass up the Tenderloin Sandwich. It wasn't exactly like the classic pork tenderloin sandwiches I've had elsewhere, but it was absolutely delicious. The pork was tender, the toppings were fresh, and the fries were cooked exactly the way I like them--golden brown with a nice crisp on the outside. At Berkley's recommendation, my wife ordered the Egg, Cheese & Bacon Biscuit with hash browns. She wasn't kidding about the bacon--it was thick, smoky, and full of flavor. I stole a bite (as good husbands do), and it was a really tasty breakfast sandwich. The hash browns were another highlight--crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. While we ate, we soaked in the local atmosphere. It was fun listening to everyone engage in a conversation. My wife and I discussed making our plans for the day and return trip for tomorrow. We made a quick stop at the nearby Price Chopper to grab a few things for the Airbnb. The Glass Cat Cafe may be a little off the beaten path, but that's often where you find the best local restaurants. Good food, generous portions, outstanding service, and a relaxed hometown vibe made this a memorable stop. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in the area. Chef T's Scorecard: * Food: 9/10 * ‍ Service: 10/10 (Thanks, Berkley!) * Value: 9/10 * Atmosphere: 8.5/10 Overall: Sometimes the best meals aren't found where everyone else is eating--they're found where the locals are. The Glass Cat Cafe is one of those places.

We ordered the country fried chicken with hash browns and the pumpkin pancakes, and every single thing on my plate was incredible. The hash browns were crispy perfection, the country fried chicken was flavorful and comforting, and the pumpkin pancakes were honestly some of the best I've had in a very long time. They were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and just the right amount of sweet and pumpkin. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. If you're looking for a great local breakfast spot, don't let the small hole in the wall appearance fool you. this place is absolutely worth the visit, we'll definitely be back!

The space is smallish but they do have bar seating in addition to seating throughout. The service was friendly and the drinks were great. They don't offer food, but they do offer cocktails, beer, wine, and mocktails. I went on a Sunday and they have a special menu called "Almost Monday." It's a smaller, simpler cocktail menu and the prices are very fair compared to other cocktail spots. I tried the Caipirinha (pineapple) and the Negroni sour. Both were good. My favorite between the two was the Negroni. It had a pretty color and wasn't too sour or strong. I'd def recommend it and get it again. Definitely stop in and check out this cute spot in Shawnee.

When you arrive there is parallel parking available outside the bar. When you walk in you'll feel like your bright, vibrant, and feels incredibly welcoming. Also, they have some really fun drinks as well that have been thoughtfully put together. We ended up sitting at the bar and I started with the Reformed Porn Star (vanilla vodka, bronson's tropical milk punch, passion fruit, Prosecco, citric acid and popping boba) which was by far my favorite drink and felt like I could have drank a couple more of these. Second I tried the Neo Cosmo (white rum, strawberry, cacao, coconut, rose hip, lime, bubble) which was good and was a fun drink with an ice cream shaped cup and a bubble on the top (meant to look like an ice cream cone). If you are in the area, this bar is a must try, the bartenders were awesome and took good care of us. Between the creative cocktails, fun atmosphere, unique floral setting, this was a memorable experience I'd definitely return for.

The fig and burrata salad was a highlight definitely a must-try and the chestnut soup was warm, rich, and comforting. For our entrées, we had the filet mignon and seafood cavatelli, both cooked perfectly and full of flavor. What truly stood out, though, was the service. The owners personally came by each table, which made the experience feel so welcoming and genuine. It's those thoughtful touches that really elevate a dining experience. As a Vietnam veteran, I'm very aware of my surroundings, and something about today's experience felt off. I arrived during happy hour and ordered a drink, assuming it was part of the happy hour menu. I later realized it wasn't, and I left feeling a bit taken advantage of. I understand that a happy hour menu is provided, but I didn't realize I needed to specifically ask which items were included. No one behind the bar explained the pricing differences or mentioned that what I ordered was not part of the happy hour offerings. Clear communication would have prevented the misunderstanding. When I received my bill, it was about twenty dollars more than I expected. I asked about the charges calmly and respectfully -- I never raised my voice, even though it was difficult in the moment. The bartender simply told me, "That's what you ordered." She's a very sweet woman, but she didn't seem to realize I was upset, and shortly after that she stepped away. That's when I spoke with Hannah. Hannah is truly exceptional. She immediately understood my disappointment and asked if I wanted her to remove the extra charges. I declined, because my frustration wasn't about the money -- it was about the lack of attentiveness and the absence of honest, proactive communication I expect from a respectable establishment. Hannah handled the situation with grace, kindness, and professionalism. She has a personality that stands out the moment you meet her, and she made it hard for me to stay upset. My real concern was the overall experience. During the hour and a half I was there, the bar was never busy -- never more than two people -- until a woman who works at Starbucks arrived with her boyfriend. It was clear the bartender knew them, and the level of attentiveness shifted noticeably. While I understand taking care of friends, it made me feel overlooked as a paying customer. I spent nearly a hundred dollars during my visit, yet I received almost no conversation or engagement from the staff. I'm not a young man, and I'm certainly not in the same age group as the bartender's friends, but that shouldn't affect the level of service. I own a business in Brookside and often recommend local restaurants to my clients. Today's experience left me feeling neglected and uncomfortable, and it has made me reconsider those recommendations. In the end, I wasn't upset about the cost -- I was disappointed by the lack of communication and the absence of effort to make guests feel acknowledged and comfortable. Hannah was the bright spot in an otherwise discouraging visit.

I thought that was nice even though they weren't busy. Until the end. Then I realized why.... The decor was beachy, adorable and fresh. They did have a nice "loaded" Land shark beer, it had a shot of their lime tequila in it. The food was literally, just ok. Burger and shrimp po boy. Fries are $3 extra to add on, they were also ok. We gave our server our card without looking at the itemized bill. I went to the restroom and walked by the hostess stand on the way back and saw a sign that said they add 20% gratuity to all bills. I checked our credit card receipts and the itemized bill had been removed. I asked the server if gratuity had already been added. He very hesitantly said yes. We then changed our signed receipt. So, just be aware. The service was decent, but not 50% tip worthy. It felt clear why they didn't have us go by hostess stand.
