I'm not much for drinking, mostly because I don't like the taste of alcohol, but Pat's special drinks and overall personality made our night! I highly recommend visiting Pat. The renovated bar is nice, very chiq, but man having people that reek of cigarettes blasting hard rock on their phones completely ruins any sort of atmosphere they wanted to make. Unfortunate that not even this place can be rid of the stereotypical Wyandotte crowd. read more

This place is a hidden gem. It is a quaint little bar inside a unique hotel. The previous barte der Pat was a unique character as well but alas he has moved on. The newest bartender, Stephanie, is very friendly and welcoming. They have an outstanding outdoor patio and one of the best happy hours around. Selfishly, I shouldn't post this review as the word might get out. I have no idea why I haven't found d'Nile earlier. It's pretty much the speakeasy bar on the Kansas side, a hidden gem beneath the Chateau Avalon. d'Nile is a place to come and relax, enjoy the company of the legendary bartender named Beau. This place possibly have the best Sazerac I've ever tasted and I travel to New Orleans once a month. The flavor is just right and how a good sazerac should taste like, you can never go wrong starting a night with this drink. You also have to try Absinthe, a drink that is finally legal in KS. When done right with sugar cube drips, your body will feel numb, relaxed, and it puts you in a happy state of mind. I highly recommend it, but do not enjoy it in excess. A nice gem for a bar in Kansas. You don't have to stay at the hotel to enjoy some drinks especially good quality drinks at this bar. It's a nicy cozy bar that have a great happy hour for drinks and appetizers. Also, bartender is great and enjoyed talking and learning about how they make their drinks. I like the pineapple upside down cake. It was amazeballs and if you have a couple, you can feel it. It was great. You can watch the game on the TV and just enjoyed the atmosphere. read more

We stayed one night at the hotel, because I was born and raised a Dotte and never had the chance to stay, so I said F' it and stayed for my birthday. We wanted a low key night on our last night in Kansas City, so I saw this wine bar on yelp and decided we needed to go. Tip: this place is inside the Chateau Avalon hotel. Follow the signs in the lobby to find it...they are very small signs...but it is down the elevator and around a corner in a room that used to be one of the hotel rooms. That means this place is small but it makes up for it in fun. So they aren't usually open on Monday but thanks to a group of people coming in to stay at the hotel they decided to open up. The bartender Beau was not there but our bartender Nikki was AWESOME. I haven't met Beau but I bet she gives him a run for his money. We loved chatting with her and joking around with her. She was funny and laid back and seemed like the kind of chick we would like hanging out with. They have cheese plates and meat/cheese plates and other small munchies to eat while drinking. They have cocktails too. A TV is available for football or whatever sport is on. There is also a huge courtyard attached with lights across the top and tons of tables. Perfect place to sit if the weather is nice. And the bathroom....they opened up one of the guest rooms which was a special treat as it was an Egyptian themed room and I got to marvel at the huge Jacuzzi in the room and the huge King Tut statues all over the room. FUN! Basically, this is an off the beaten path way to have some wine and talk to some fun and entertaining bartenders and some other traveling souls such as yourself. read more

We expected something classy but found a pub par bar. Upon entering, we being the only people there, the bartenders were sitting at a table drinking and responded to our entrance with "We'll be back soon." So we sat at a table just a few feet away from the bartenders who are there to serve us while they drank and we watched. So we left. Also their "quicksand" floor is just concrete with some gold paint. Do not recommend. read more

Bottom Line: Nice outside patio, Disappointing bartender, Worthwhile for guests Overview: For weary guests, this place is a nice addition to Chateau Avalon. The kitchen does serve food, but only small plates. Also, the name of the bar indicates it is a wine bar only, which is not the case. Bar: The bar consists of an indoor and outdoor area. As I understood from Beau, the previous bartender, this space was originally designed as a themed room. The Egyptian Palace Suite, to be exact. It was not until later that the room was converted into a bar. This is somewhat apparent when you walk outside. As you exit the door from the inside to the outside, two large pipes jut out of the building blowing warm air from the laundry room. When your design is an afterthought, these things happen. Bartender: Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon. We were a bit early (3:45pm) and the bar did not open until 4pm. The lady behind the bar was tuning the TV when we entered. She said, "Can I help you?" I told her I realized we were a bit early, but just wanted to hang around until she opened. I was expecting some sort of welcome or a "Sure, no problem!", but all I got was silence. We waited until 4pm, and then we approached the bar. I asked for two "Miami Vice" drinks. Some observations: The lady bartender had to reference from her notes how to make the drink. The mixer and glassware were washed right after we ordered. I have no experience bar tending, but many of my friends commented how we were getting a dose of cleaning fluid with our drinks. Next, the whipped cream she needed for the drink was out. After calling and then retrieving a can from the kitchen, the can she grabbed was 95% empty and was not even enough for one drink much less two. The mixed drinks my friends came out with looked disappointing, as well. The drinks appeared nothing like one sees in the photo advertisements online, unfortunately. To be specific, the pineapple slice should have been placed on the edge of the glass. She just threw it in the glass where it sank to the bottom. Summary: Were it not for a planned tour earlier of Chateau Avalon with my friends and I, we would have most likely had one drink and left. The patio is very comfortable. I went to one of their wine tastings last night and it was a blast! We had 4 wines, plus at the end of the tasting we could get a free glass of whichever one we liked most. There was live music (singer/piano player) which made the evening that much more relaxing and pleasant. Their patio is a pretty nice little place to have a glass of wine. This is a great little place to relax and have a few drinks with friends. The atmosphere is cozy inside and Egyptian themed. The patio is a great place to have a cigar and get together with larger groups. Even in the winter Beau will have a fire ready on the patio so you can stay warm. Speaking of Beau, he is one of the best bartenders I've ever met. He will do everything he can to make sure your experience is a good one. His knowledge of his trade is excellent. We had a very confusing and frustrating experience here. We were checking out the wine bar to see if it would possibly be a good location for a company happy hour. The hotel receptionist was incredibly friendly and escorted us to the bar. This is when things quickly went sideways. The bartender and one other patron were the only ones in the room. We sat ourselves at a small table and went to review the wine selection... as it's a wine bar and that's why this location was selected. Before we even got the menu fully opened, the bartender (not Beau from previous reviews) told us to not even bother, that he knew what we wanted, which I personally found insulting and slightly aggressive. To make a short story shorter, he did not ask what we actually wanted, brought us drinks we did not order(and not wine) then later informed us of the ridiculous price. I'm not suggesting that this location is terrible, it could be quite the opposite but after our experience this time, I won't come back to find out. read more
