No matter the time of day, the place is pretty dimly lit. There's adequate seating at the bar and around it, and outside space in the back. The West Coast oysters were Kumamoto (California), while the East Coast selection were called Bad Boys (from Nova Scotia, Canada). Normally I'm a big fan of West coast oysters, but the Bad Boys were delicious! They were plump with a bold ocean brine & crisp finish. My friend also ordered a cup of clam chowder, which he thoroughly enjoyed. One of the best oyster HH spots I've come across, because it seems to be harder finding good ones lately. Would definitely come back to try the other seafood dishes.

I do wish the natural wines were labeled more clearly though as I typically try to avoid those (due to personal preference). The staff at the front are always helpful and kind and they host events here all the time including tastings and speakers. I recommend following them on socials to stay up to date on these. There is also a rewards program here which is nice.

(Don't get me wrong, I love wineries partnering with visual artists; the appearance of these bottles attracted me to this store in the first place.) I wanted to like this shop more than I did, but I found it to be just okay. I was one of two customers mulling about. The front door has an intimidating message left over from peak covid times that demands everyone wear a mask and not use cash, and it caps the capacity to 8 or thereabouts. (Can't quite remember the number.) Antiquated as it is, a peek through the window will confirm not even the staff wear masks these days, though I'm not sure if they've gone back to accepting cash. I will preface this by saying, frankly, I know nothing about wine. I spent a very long amount of time just staring at the labels and trying to find a name or category that seemed remotely familiar based on my limited experience. Normally, in a more traditional type of shop, locating a reliable cabernet would be a breeze, but in this place, most of the reds I saw seemed to be blends, and I had a negative connotation in my head about blends for whatever reason, so I shifted to the whites shelf. As the other gentleman who had been perusing the shop before me had, by this time, checked out and went on his way, one would think the sole employee of the small establishment might glance up from his phone and say hi or ask if I was looking for something particular, but no, of course, they never ask when you want them to, and I did not want to be rude and interrupt whatever riveting activity found him so engaged. Instead, I turned to Google and, more importantly, Vivino to get an opinion, background, or any kind of information, however vague, regarding the selection before me. Short story long, although Vivino has not steered me wrong previously, there is a first time for everything, and the inexpensive "four-star" bottle I picked out (I wish I could remember the name, but memory fails me) turned out to be no good. I'm not particularly picky either, so this does not happen often. As someone else mentioned, in addition, at checkout, the register has the audacity to prompt you to tip. This might have made sense if the attendant had paid any attention at all.

I've been in a Moscato state of mind recently, and asked Harry for some advice for my selection. He inquired as to what I favor in terms of sweetness. I told him the sweeter and fruitier the better. I picked up the Moscato Di' Asti from Italy and was told "it had aromas of honeysuckle with effervescent flavors of orange and apricot. This classic Moscato shows balanced sweetness with fruit flavors kept alive by the decent acidity." Hmm.. sounded great! I purchased it and headed over to the Yelp event at The Franklin for more delicious wine and cheese. The space is huge and has calming with modern lighting. The wine is divided by region for the most part. I'm always drawn to the France and Argentina but will also go the Spain and Australia route. The only downside is that you have to trust their instincts rather than you be able to walk around to see what they have. Make sure you know what you are looking for before you go. If not, get their Tempranillo, it's amazing.

The staff and owner I met a few times in the past were friendly. Once, when I mentioned to the man (whom I presume to be the owner) that I've no idea what kind of wine is appropriate for cooking, he swapped out the $15 bottle he was initially recommending for a $7 one. Score! Good on him for being honest and not trying to pull a fast one. Unfortunately it looks like they no longer accept credit cards, only debit cards--and even so, there's a $10 minimum. Good to have cash handy on your person.

Something important to note, I didn't read the poor reviews before entering so I had no expectations going in They have a great line up of choices for the area. Compared to the nail place about two blocks away, this is heaven . It's bright and open and the types of wine and spirits are organized. They also have a great selection of "minis" and I don't mean your slumped on the corner minis, I mean half bottles or wine, cans of wine and even small cues of sparkling wine. This is amazing. If you're in the area or even an Uber pool away you won't be dissatisfied.

Prices are reasonable - slightly marked up on certain items, but the selection is very impressive for a small shop. In one trip I bought a Sauvignon Blanc, Prosecco and a sparkiling sake. Not too shabby in my book. The shop is nicely appointed, surprisingly so for this section of Wyckoff (or all of Wyckoff? haven't lived here long enough to know). The female cashier isn't terribly friendly but this is not enough of a deterrent to keep me from shopping here weekly.
