A recent stroll I took in search of an ice cream truck led me all the way to the Parkside Q train entrance. Just as I paid for my ice cream float I looked up and spotted D.vino Wine & Spirits, open for business but for curbside pickup and delivery only. Since I took this treacherous walk many blocks from home I thought I might as well indulge in something that will make hunkering down at home for however many more weeks more palatable. Fortunately, D.vino is well stocked and the staff was very willing to help me achieve this task. Though customers are not allowed into the store, I was able to inquire about their inventory. I made out with one of their fantastic bitters from the brand Buckspice, which I'm hoping will punch up some of the cocktails I'll be making at home. In addition to curbside pickup they also do home delivery, which according to other reviewers is a seamless experience. As soon as lockdowns were announced in March, my number one priority was putting in a bulk wine order. And of course I had to order from the best little wine shop in the 'hood, D.Vino. I'm impressed and grateful that they stayed open for us from the beginning. They adjusted their hours and switched to delivery/pick-up only. I'm sure they had an influx of orders from people like me trying to stock up on wine, but they always delivered my order quickly regardless. When restrictions eased up in the summer, they creatively brought back in-store purchasing. While you can't go inside to browse, they printed menus to peruse outside and built a plastic barricade inside at the door to allow you to safely put in your order and pay. As for their selection, they have a little bit of everything, including spirits featuring local distillers. Every week they highlight a red and white wine and offer them at a discount. I actually discovered my absolute favorite white wine from this weekly highlight: a gorgeous floral sauv blanc from New Zealand called Auntsfield. I've been coming here for years, since the week it opened, and I truly do not know why. It's been horrific customer service since day 1. No memory of customer loyalty, and the staff seems technology averse. The higher price-point was only balanced by the customer rewards program, but I've recently tried and failed 3 separate times to get them to properly add my discount at point of sale. Good customer service should never include defensive blame pushing onto a loyal customer---EVER. Dim bulbs all around. read more

I love that this shop has a section dedicated to women winemakers! Please note that in this small space, people bring their dogs in, some of whom are large and without a leash. So unfortunately, this is not a place for anyone who has dog/dander allergies, phobias, etc. Alas, as the neighborhood becomes more expensive, this tends to be more common. read more

Wow! That's all I can say about this local wine and spirits shop. This place has the most amazing collection of wines I've ever seen! When I saw this little shop I thought everything would be out of our price range, but most bottles are around $20! We have come here every night straight for over a week and we haven't found a bottle of wine we didn't like yet. The best part? They have liquor too! I'm so excited this place exists. Also, the staff is so helpful! I came in just two nights ago asking for a wine that paired with fried calamari and chicken francese, they recommended a Pecorino which was perfect! If you are looking for EXCEPTIONALLY HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and A POOR SELECTION of wine then you have come to the right place! My experience at D.Vino left a very bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). During my short visit to D. Vino. My guest and I were rushed and embarrassed by a sales representative when we simply inquired about their selection of Riesling wines. She was extremely rude and uncouth. To top it all off, the sales representative was completely unknowledgeable on well-known fine wines and simple wine terminology. Additionally, the substitute wine that was recommended didn't not satisfy my palate AT ALL. I will NEVER step foot or support this establishment again, and I suggest that you save yourself the trip. Yes it's pricier than Trader Joe's, but you can get quality wine below $13. At Trader Joe's, cheaper wine actually tastes horrible. THE BEST!!!! I cannot sing the praises of this cute little wine shop enough! The staff are all super friendly and knowledgeable, every time I come in I just ask them to recommend something and I've never once been disappointed. It's not an enormous selection, but it is very high-quality at extremely reasonable prices (you can get a very good bottle for $13-15, though their prices can go as high as the 20s to low 30s). It's very clear that the people who work here are passionate about what they do, and are thoughtful in how they source their wines. They do tastings on the weekends, and they always have a bunch of fun facts and stories to share about the wines. They taught me the difference between rose and orange wines, which I didn't even know was a thing! Most of the wines they have are natural wines, and they make a point of highlighting wines from female owned-vineyards and wineries. And in addition to wines they have a small, curated selection of liquors. Typically smaller-batch, higher-end spirits as well as things like vermouth, sherry and sake. Once, I came in looking for a bottle of dry white wine to make a linguine with clams dish, and the staff convinced me to try new bottle of sherry they had just got- it was amazing. It totally upped my cooking game, I ended up using it for a bunch of different dishes. These guys know their stuff!!! read more

She quickly browsed through her system to find us what we were looking for. She grabbed us a bottle of Yard Dog white wine from Australia. It was excellent. I live nearby and was terrified at first when the sign went up -- thinking wine was a surefire sign of aggressive gentrification. I continue to be pleasantly surprised every time I come in by how helpful the staff is when I tend to look for the lower price points. They're so happy to be hosting tastings here! Don't get me wrong, I love First Class on Flatbush too, but the defining difference for me is being comfortable as a 5'2" woman here. Did not have a great experience here. I am pretty interested in how gentrification is progressing in PLG (been a resident for over 4 years), and felt this bougie place felt like a catalyst/safe haven for the increasingly more white and more affluent newcomers. I asked the white woman the price of a rosè in a coconut water container was... she told me it was $14 and then proceeded to look me up and down (twice!) and did the same with my friend. I felt as though she was assessing my worth, whether or not I'd actually be able to afford something in this wine shop. I have never felt this way previously in PLG. If people really want to have bougie wine or bougie wine tasting, maybe go to Williamsburg or go to Manhattan. If you want wine and are in a pinch, I'd suggest going to the liquor store, the one with bullet proof glass, on Flatbush. read more

Thought this would have been a pleasant visit after a beautiful sunset picnic in the park. To my surprise it was one of worst customer service experiences from a woman with glasses. The representative was rude and pushy and came across as a snotty sommelier when she was far from one. She left my partner and myself feeling insulted and upset. To the point that there were no words to share how she made us feel for the next 1/2 hour. She ruined our beautiful evening and we never drank the wine because of the ill service. This place is incredible! A MASSIVE selection of wines from around the world (Italy, France, Australia) and the *only* boutique wine shop within three blocks where you can simply walk in, grab a bottle, and jet set to your dinner party. It certainly stands out amongst the *cough* less inclined establishments on Parkside Ave (read McDonalds, Checks Cashed), so I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The women at the counter were friendly and knowledgeable. On NYE they were taking delivery orders, and wine pairing suggestions based on what folks were cooking. Price points were fab as well: $13 and under (I purchased a Cabernet for $11), or above depending on your event and budget. Their back shelf has a great selection of affordable wines, and even one shelf dedicated to women-owned wineries (take that Donald Trump)!
