I found Winot by looking for a natural wine shop to deliver to my sister in Crown Heights. The selection is stellar, the prices are fair, and when I had a question about delivery timing + gift options, the shop was lightning fast to respond to my chat. Also, they delivered in maybe under an hour?! I was so super impressed. I love shopping local but I especially love local shops who go above and beyond. When I visited last month they were still a walk-up only wine shop where you can't yet browse inside, but the staff is ever attentive, getting you exactly what you need and are great with recommendations as needed. I've been coming here for a while now mostly because of its convenient location. But I've definitely noticed that service has improved - almost 180. Current staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They ask if help is needed upon entering, and seem sincere to do so. New wines get added to the shelves I'm not sure how often, but I can pick up something new for myself when I stop in every few weeks or so. At this point, the place is one of my go-to's for wine, especially in Crown Heights. They've become a solid staple for me, and have established themselves as a must when on the block. So if you're on your way to someone's house in the area, have them help you for a recommendation and you can't go wrong. read more

I've been meaning to check out Winot for a while and finally managed to. Wow, was I missing out all this time! Winot is definitely one of my new favorite wine shops in the city. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable. They are passionate about wine. The wine selection is very diverse and well organized. When I asked if a certain Movia wine was the orange one made with skin contact from the grapes, they looked it up for me. They also gave wonderful recommendations which led me to trying some interesting bottles from here. My favorite was definitely the small production 100% Syrah from Greece. The winemaker's mom hand drew every label. read more

One of my favorite neighborhood wine shops! They recently reopened after being walk-up counter only throughout most of COVID. I much prefer being able to browse since I never know what I'm going to buy when I walk in, but the walk-up option was much more approachable than some other local shops. At Winot, the staff is always super helpful and kind, whether you want advice on which bottles to get or if you just are having a chat while paying. Price wise amongst many of the local spots, I also think Winot offers the largest array of options, whereas some other stores push the limits of what I'm willing to spend. Great smaller shop. Would like to pop in once pandemic is over, so far have only done a few online purchases/pick ups. Very solid Riesling selection with some real gems under $25. Of the wines I picked up all were solid, but both the Dolde Neuffener ($22) and the Spreitzer Muschelchalk (not on their site anymore, hope this is coming back!) were amazing and drank more like $30+. read more

Always exceptionally friendly service willing to help you pick the best bottle of wine for your taste/budget combo. I appreciate that there's selections for everyone's budget. Over my visits I've bought a $10 bottle here and a $100 (1993 red) here and everything in between. If at all possible...(I don't know if you have basement storage) but I'd turn the back storage room into a rentable tasting room. Regardless, great business and great selection! Legitimately do not come here, the guy working at the store tonight was a huge asshole. He could barely help me then as I was waiting in line for the woman in front of me to pay, he says to me "you're being rude" yes, I was on my phone, but I was barley speaking and definitely not being loud, because I was listening to the person on the phone. I calmly asked him why and he said "because you're on your phone" I'm sorry... is this a library or a liquor store? Without any more discussion I left because it wasn't worth getting into it with him but I've never felt so disrespected in a place where I was buying something and really not being rude at all. I feel it is my duty to update my yelp review based on last night's horrid experience. Here is what went down folks: Boyfriend and I moseyed into Winot last night as we saw there was a whiskey tasting happening hosted by a local Brooklyn distillery. We thought- " hmm if it's good, we could get some as holiday gifts". Although I said I don't frequent Winot much- I thought I'd give it another shot. Everyone needs a second chance right?? So as we are getting the lowdown on the Brooklyn made whiskey by the representative of the whiskey company (which was quite awesome I must add). My beau asks if they sell everywhere..like Astor etc. The dude working at Winot -separate from the whiskey representative (the blonde manager with the beard) chimes in and says and I quote " ASTOR haha- yeah I'm making a joke because your friend there ( that would be me) wrote a mean yelp review about us. You know your picture is up there and you really insulted the owner." Then he kept going on..rather embarrassing for everyone..but mostly himself. WOW- so I simply replied- " Well- I tell the truth and call it how I see it". Keep in mind- the store was pretty packed- he felt the need to make everyone in the store pretty uncomfortable by causing a scene- and once again losing my business or any of my alcoholic friend's business. I politely apologized to the Brooklyn Whiskey dude and assured him I would buy his product..but in a different store. As I left the store he was still saying things to me which I chose to ignore. Apparently they still did not get the customer satisfaction note. they lost my business and now my respect. Way to keep it classy Winot. Happy Holidays. read more

I am no wine expert but I know a thing or two about excellent customer service. My friend and I walked in 30 minutes before they closed at 11pm on a Saturday night. The staffer was very knowledgeable about their selection and how different wines complemented occasions or meals. When I saw the inexpensive to moderate prices for these wines, I could not believe my eyes. He even told us that they even help dinner party guests identify what to bring so they don't leave home empty-handed. Genius! As an amateur, I appreciate their efforts to really educate and strive to meet customer needs. There was even a book on the shelf for newbies like myself to the wine club. I feel that I can trust their expertise to guide me whenever I need to buy a bottle as a gift. Keep up the great work Winot! read more

The mix of 1-star and 5-star reviews gets it right....this place is a solid 3-stars. It is certainly the best in the neighborhood, though not great when compared to NYC overall. Good: Decent Selection with Good Geographic Dispersion (for the neighborhood) Quite a Few Bottles Available Under $15 and a Section Devoted Just to Party Favorites Limited Selection of Nice Apertifs / Liquor Not So Good: Great for the Neighborhood .... but doesn't come close to Astor or Warehouse. Even Grapes and Grain or Mei Chi in Park Slope are significantly better. However, this place is 100x better than Love Wine and Liquor, or any place on Franklin. Winot has a better prices and slightly better selection, but worse service than Winey Neighbor on Washington, so maybe that is a wash. Overall, this is a good addition to the neighborhood. The service can be mixed (one guy is nice and helpful, the other is more standoffish and scowl prone), the selection and pricing could be better, but it blows away the local competition and is a good place to score a decent bottle before hopping on the subway. read more

I don't really know much about wine, I just know I like to have it around in my apartment. And since I recently moved to the area I decided to celebrate with a bottle of wine. This place was honestly perfect for me. As soon as I walked in the door I knew that I was going to be leaving with something good. The space is honestly a little tight for the selection they have, but that seems to be characteristic of most businesses in the area. They offer a good variety of wines for fair prices, but what I found to be really extraordinary was the customer service. When it was quite clear that I was a little lost/indecisive, a guy came up to me, asked me what I was looking for, and advised me towards the best thing for the occasion. He was also extremely friendly and seemed genuinely interested, which is always nice. Awesome service. Definitely worth a try. read more

There's nothing to dislike about this store. The owners are friendly and always helpful with suggestions based on what you like, what you're in the mood for, how much you want to spend, or any other considerations. Their selection isn't huge, but the owners have tried everything they sell, and they have great taste, and so every wine is well chosen. Their prices are reasonable (check out the $12 and under table mentioned by other reviewers), and they have better hours than most any wine store around - usually open until 9 or 10, and 11 on Fridays/Saturdays (the chalkboard always lets you know when they'll close any given day). To top it off they have Thursday night tastings. Don't believe the haters, and don't waste time walking to a wine store farther away. You'll get more bang for your buck and a better shopping experience at Winot. read more

This wine store is awesome - It's hard to say I'd recommend it though over another store in the area because, well, there isn't really another similar option in the neighborhood. That being said, wino(t) definitely doesn't let the lack of competition in the neighborhood go to their heads. The lone staff member working when I went stepped out from behind the counter to show me three or four different options, giving a detailed description of each wine and then retrieved the option I selected from the cooler for me - despite a line forming behind the counter. She was very helpful and nice! The selection is overwhelming for such a small physical space, but the knowledgeable staff makes it navigable. The price range is accommodating to any budget. Many of their wines and liquors seemed to be from small producers and used natural, sustainable, or organic processes. Also, the customer in front of my exchanged a bottle of wine - which I thought was accommodating of the store. Yes - you could go to Astor - but then why are you living in Brooklyn if you are rejecting small businesses trying to make it in up-and-coming neighborhoods that are also supporting small producers around the world, in favor of bigger stores who probably get 90% of their products from one major corporate liquor distributor?! read more

This place is exactly what we have been looking for. The have a large very diverse selection of inexpensive wine which is all great quality. The selection here has been expertly edited to give us the best in every price range. The staff are knowledgable and I have never been led astray with any of their suggestions. I've been to every wine store in Park Slope and moving to Crown Heights, I was afraid I'd be left 'dry'. Not so with Winot! Better than everywhere else I have tried in Bk so far. I was happy to finally discover this wine shop about a month ago. I've been in twice and think it's lovely. Sure, it's small, but they have a nice variety of wine in the $12-15 range. The liquor selection is very small, but specialized. I was happy to find Square One Cucumber Vodka, which is hard to find it much larger liquor stores. I'm not one to really ask for much guidance when I select wine. I generally browse and try things out. The owner has been kind on both occasions, commenting on my selection in a helpful way. Both occasions I stopped by were unexpected, so I didn't have a bag with me to carry my purchases. I'd rather the bags they used were not translucent. I know, weird - but more than one man I passed by on Franklin walking south to my apartment made a comment about me having booze! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Winot! The vintage vibe, hand picked selection, and down to earth staff make each experience great! From the handwritten script price tags and display signs to rotating "staff picks" for wines, the owner gives that special touch that you can't find most places. I especially like the fact that I am always learning more about wine from the owner and staff and am exposed to alot of local NY wines that I would have otherwise never heard about. The owner has always been super nice and friendly every time I've been there (which I must say is beginning to happen too often...haha). I don't know why anyone would say anything differently. Maybe they are projecting or personalizing...Either way, I think it's worth the trip for you to make that decision on your own. And if you don't, more wine for me :) read more

I love this spot. It's one of the only wine and spirit shops on Franklin Avenue, and I think it's one of the best. With an assortment of regional wines, you won't be disappointed. They also have center tables that have wines ranging from $11-30, so you can pick your poison at the right price for you. I'm certain I've tried a very high number of wines from Winot, and none of them have ever been bad. In fact, I've discovered a few new favorites! Depends on who's working whether you'll get any assistance. I stop in periodically, and am generally rubbed the wrong way whenever the woman (owner?) is working. One time, I went in with a male friend and she actively ignored any question I had and only spoke to my male companion--even though *I* was the one paying. Yes, its nice to have a wine shop a block away from my home, but spare me the pretension--I'd rather walk over to Washington to Loves or the wine shop closer to Prospect & Washington. read more

Traipsing down Franklin Avenue and lamenting the demise of "The Spice Is Right", I asked my girl Siri where I could go to score a bottle of vino. She suggested Winot. Upon entering this twee chimera of a neighborhood wine store, I was confronted by a hostile wine seller who offered me and the other patrons a taste of "a sparkling" and "a red" from "Burgandy, that's in France". Thanks for the clarification. After being completely ignored, I selected an overpriced wine and interrupted the cashier's spirited thumbing of her smartphone. Those birds won't play themselves, amirite?. The eyerolling level of this place is akin to the clerks at a Williamsburg "cassette" store, or when I wore slacks to Robertas. Go to Fermented Grapes instead. Friendly and a better selection. read more

I want to start off by saying that the first time I came to winot I had a great experience and very friendly sales person. However, my next experience with the rude and dismissive owner has caused me to have to abandon this place. The website says Winot opens at 1pm on Saturdays. I loved the wine I picked up the last time, so I traveled a long ways specifically to pick up the same wine from winot. When I arrived at 1:15 I was surprised to see the gate half way down but a light coming from the back. I traveled 45 minutes to get here, so I decided to knock on the door to see if someone would be able to help me out. The owner came out of the back office with a look of disgust on his face and dismissively told me there were not opening until 2, smugly rolled his eyes , and turned his back without even hearing anything that I had to say. Didn't even bother so much as to open the door to speak to me as a customer that just took a 45 ride to give his business money. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. The owner doesn't even begin to know the meaning of customer service especially when his store is a small shop with a fake "neighborhood feel" it just doesnt pay to rudely turn customers away when they have incorrect information on their website. I was so shocked by his behavior that I immediately called to let him know how rude he was and he continued to argue with me, and tried to tell me I was in the wrong!!! Way too pompous for the neighborhood, maybe they should move to the city because that type of pretentious attitude won't get them very far in Brooklyn. NOTE TO THE OWNER: Update your website before giving customers attitude because they decide to support your business during your advertised business hours!!!! read more

I have never felt the need to post a review on Yelp before but the girl with the absolute absurd story involving being called out by the staff here during a whiskey tasting inspired me. This store is fine. They have lots of decently priced decent wines. The people there have never been anything but friendly and cordial to me. The reason that sales clerk was rude to you is that you were rude. You went into a store and asked if you could get a product somewhere else. Its a business. They don't want you to get it somewhere else. And if you've made it known publicly that you don't care for the business, why are you there? Yelp is a place to get information about places. It should not be a means to hold service workers/small business owners hostage to the demands of an increasingly bizarre and socially inept public. Now for my actual comment, which I hope gets back to the owners: I would really like it if this place delivered. It seems there are no wine stores in the neighborhood that do. Consider it! read more

So, if another real wine shop moves into the neighborhood, this place would be closed in two weeks. No, really it would. Pro: It is better than the liquor store a few blocks up on Franklin. Cons: 1. Hold you nose, because it reeks of being pretentious. It is really bad. I went there twice and the first WAS the WORST. 2. The two sales people talked about their significant others summer homes and families more just a bit TOO much. The customer service, hmmmm, dear Winot, hold a real training on how to cater to a gentrified neighborhood! Duh! The customer service was not great. 3. The price- So you can't sell Trader Joe's wine for five to ten dollars more than TJs. I went to TJ;s wine shop ad saw wines I had recently purchased that were 8 and 9 bucks. Asked about a particular wine which they didn't carry, got told another was similar so I bought it. Opened it- definitely needed time to breathe! After leaving it to open up, tasted it- very watery and poor. Nothing at all like the wine I went in looking for... Also very overpriced for a very crappy wine. Not satisfied by the staff recommendation, but sometime it's just a swing and a miss. However, the staff greeted everyone who walked in the door but ignored me. Even asked others if they needed help while I had to seek it out after browsing in their tiny space for much longer than other customers. That coupled with the poor, overpriced wine suggestion is the reason for the mediocre stars. Definitely will go elsewhere for wines in the future read more

Lovely space, great people and fine customer service. I have to give the low rating based solely on product alone. The selection in there is poor and the prices are much too high. Take any of their bottles and put it in the Vivino app and they are generally priced 20% higher than average (for comparison sake, Astor Wine bottles are generally 20% lower) It's unfortunate that this is the only nice wine store in the neighborhood, but it might be worth the ride elsewhere to buy in bulk.
