I was unaware that DW Ewing was being sold when I signed a contract for moving and storage back in December 2022. The previous owner put everything in writing and I agreed and signed everything. The move itself was very smooth, I was very pleased. I was told I would get the first month storage free (Jan 2023). I was told my storage would be $60 per month, invoiced monthly, and would not go up. I paid the $60 for Feb and $60 for March (as invoiced) and was surprised when I received a bill for $105 for the month of April. Kinda got blind sighted. I had believed that the price for storage would stay the same pursuant to previous owner. A bit disappointed that the previous owner had not been more forthcoming and upfront about his business being sold and possible significant rate increases could be coming. Brandon and the crew showed up on time and worked very hard all day long, loading two trucks. They met us the next morning in Aptos to unload, again working tirelessly. WARNING - STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY!!! They caused us so much grief, and they are totally honest when they say, they don't care - they don't! I did a lot of investigating to find a good mover. I received lots of quotes and went with D W Ewing. They weren't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive. When I received my quote, I was promised a large truck, 4 movers, and a timeline that the movers would be packed and ready to hit the road by 2PM since it was going to be a 4 hour drive. When the movers arrived, they had a small truck and three movers. I was told that another truck and mover would be here by 2PM. At 4PM, the additional truck arrived with the mover. At 6PM, 4 hours after the promised time, we were on the road. The next day when the movers showed up to unpack the trucks, there were broken items, and scratched furniture. When I saw the head mover putting the door back on my refrigerator with a hammer, I was beyond livid! I asked him if he cared that he had scratched and broken so many items, he told me that he "had been in this business for many years, and this is the way it goes. Customers are never happy, and that I could file a claim". The total cost of my move with Ewing, $3,600. The total cost of repairs and replacement costs is currently at $4200, with one item that can't be replaced because it's an original. I will never recommend this company! Ever! Ever! We recently had Ewing movers move us from Danville, California to Fresno and they did an absolutely fantastic job!! They were the ultimate professionals; showing great care with our belongings and went out of their way to make sure that everything was done to our satisfaction. The entire crew was extremely helpful and the company performed beyond our expectations. I highly recommend these movers. They were quick and efficient. We moved from Oakhurst, California in a two day move, and Dale, the owner was involved in every step of the process. His crew was hard working and very careful. They wrapped all large wood furnishings, many of which contained mirrors. No items were broken, scratched, or dented. Dale personally dismantled and wrapped the bedroom pier and reassembled it at the other end. He also wrapped a lot of the other furnisings. Their pricing was very reasonable. If you are looking for a quality mover, you owe it to yourself to at least contact this mover. read more

That's why there is two stars instead of one. The other worker was distraught and dealt with personal issues most of the time. On the phone. Could not concentrate. I am very excited to be the first to leave a Yelp review for this company and to recommend it. It is because I feel this company is truly a hidden gem in Fresno/Clovis and I want to spread the good word of mouth for it as much as possible, as I would for any any company/restaurant I feel deserves it. Really, I am shocked that I basically had to stumble upon it haphazardly as detailed below. Hence my reason for trying to get their name out there! The process of finding a moving company was somewhat daunting as there are SO MANY. So I went with trusty Yelp reviews to narrow down the field. But then I ran into other issues. Firstly, as others must be able to attest to, at least with moving companies in Fresno, there simply aren't many reviewed companies to begin with. Secondly, the reviews of the moving companies that did exist don't number that high and also, weren't exactly glowing. In fact, most were downright atrocious. Still, I was able to find a few good ones which I contacted by phone. Unfortunately, most were unable to accommodate the dates I was looking for or unwilling to move such a small amount of furniture long distance (Fresno to SoCal). Desperate, I asked one company about other movers. Funny enough, they recommended one company to completely avoid and then dropped the name of D. W. Ewing movers as a company they had heard good things about. To me, if someone is willing to recommend a competitor, that's pretty high praise! Before I get into my experience with them, I must also state that in addition to using Yelp to narrow down the wide list of choices available for moving, I had begun researching if they were BBB accredited as well as this technique was recommended by movingscam.com in the section about finding a good mover (common sense maybe). Sure enough, D. W. Ewing is BBB accredited and has an A+ rating to boot. So I called up D. W. Ewing and they agreed to do the move after working out a deal in which I would pay for the minimum amount of furniture (weight based) required for a long distance move although I didn't necessarily meet that minimum amount. This worked for me because the price for the minimum was reasonable and I basically had no other options (other than going with a disreputable company). On to the move itself. There were 3 movers, one of which was the owner (pretty sure this time) who took on more of a supervisory role. All 3 were polite (customer service is a real thing and its good to see people still care about it) and always mindful of my requests and comfort. For example, in the process of moving stuff out, they left part of my sectional couch to relax on (was coming off of night shift so this was key) while finishing the rest of the move. They also agreed to wrap up my mattress in plastic in addition to the protective padding they already used. Regarding the process of moving my furniture, it was done very efficiently and smartly. Furniture was taken apart quickly and most impressive of all, my mattress, which weighs a lot and is extremely inflexible (it has a ton of springs and is pretty much the firmest mattress you can buy) was brought down 3 flights of stairs with the greatest ease I had seen in 3 attempts (when I had it initially delivered and when I did a move within the apartment complex using short distance movers). It was damn near graceful. This display of professionalism only continued when I met them to finish the move the next day in SoCal. Again, they complied with every request that I had (this time, more dealing with setting up the furniture) with no complaints and once more navigated the more difficult aspects of the move with aplomb. I do apologize to everyone for the long winded review. I tend to do this for restaurants and companies that I feel strongly about (lol, look at my "best hotdog in Fresno review) simply because they deserve it and in this case, more so because I'm not sure they're getting the recognition they deserve. Plus, I felt like it was important to go into the details of the move which made it so great, rather than leaving a generic "They were good and nice and didn't jack my stuff" review. Dealing with such professionals (and just good guys from our short conversations) helped alleviate a lot of the angst that goes along with moving because as we all know, every move is stressful and sucks. Knowing that you have movers you can trust and not having to sweat the little things and just being able to relax are huge and arguably just as important as the actual act of moving itself. In summary, one of the best and pleasantly surprising (I mean, its just moving) customer service experiences I've had in recent years. I needed to move a 100 year old piano from my home to my brother's home over 400 miles away. Having moved the piano two other times, I was very concerned about the move. Have not had a good experience in the past. The other complication was I needed to piggy back off another move in order to save money. I had previously contacted two other movers who said they would contact me when they had a move going in the direction of my brother's. They never did. So I contacted DW Ewing and within a couple of months, they let me know they had a load going south. They also had a move in my area and could pick up the piano then, hold it in storage and add it to the other load. It all went perfect. They took such great care when they picked up the piano and also great care when they delivered it to my brother. We were both so pleased. We just finished a move from our prior home in Fresno, CA to Lynden, WA ... over 1,000 miles. We'd lived in Fresno our whole married lives --- 48 years. This was a huge move for us, and we were very nervous about it. We had used D.W.Ewing Movers 18 years ago for local storage, and were very pleased. So we called them again for this move. We knew we were moving months in advance, so we'd decided to do our own packing. I am happy to say that the whole moving experience, from beginning to end, was perfect. Donna handled the arrangements of our move. She was very professional and patient. We had lots of questions about specific items, and I tended to be overly-anxious and she promptly answered each of my questions and eased my concerns. We had never moved out of town, so she explained the whole estimation process to us in detail, including what services they provided and their association with American Red Ball. We felt that the estimate was reasonable and understandable. Donna answered all our questions regarding how to prepare certain items for moving, including which items didn't need to be prepared (wrapped, protected, boxed, etc) in advance and the best way to mark the boxes. We asked her to do a "walk through" before the move to point out any possible problem areas in our preparations, which she did. Dale Ewing arrived on the morning of our move to take care of a few items for us, one of which was a treasured grandfather clock. He offered to do this on his own. The American Red Ball driver, Gary, showed up at the agreed-upon time, and he had called ahead of time to introduce himself and confirm his arrival. He too was very professional and we watched him oversee the entire loading process, including explaining how and why he was handling certain items (such as taking doors off of the refrigerator and handling very large glass table tops). He made sure all of our items, particularly our furniture, was adequately protected. His two assistants were also very knowledgeable and experienced. They even offered to take a few last-minute items for us that we had originally planned to move in our cars. American Red Ball called the next day, and we were pleased to learn that the actual weight was less than the estimate, and that our amount due was going to be less than the original bid. The driver arrived at our destination the day after our arrival, 4 days later, at the agreed-upon time. That process, too, was efficiently and carefully handled by another team of experienced movers. All of our belongings were unloaded and placed in the storage facility with care and we observed no damage, breakage or mishandling of objects. We would highly recommend this mover and can't think of one thing regarding the entire process that could have gone better. read more

WORST MOVE EVER! I've moved 7 times in the last 10 years and never had such a horrible experience. My shipment was small, was attached to other loads, went from Fresno area to Carson City, NV, final destination Eugene, OR. I called to find out when it would be delivered, and was told the truck had broken down. It was promised Friday, the last day of the "delivery window". I sat in my empty condo for the two hour time frame I was given. No show, no call, nothing. I called and was told it would be delivered Sunday. Again sat in an empty house for two hours. Again, no call, no show, nothing. It was a holiday weekend. I left messages for the three phone numbers I had. Got a call from the driver an hour later. He was just leaving Phoenix, AZ to take a new truck to NV. I was promised delivery on Tuesday. My furniture finally arrived that day. LACK OF COMMUNICATION was the most frustrating part of this experience, both from DW Ewing and Red Ball, the national carrier. I was promised compensation by two different people. It's two weeks later. No call, no letter, no nothing. If you are doing a local move it is probably fine. DO NOT do a long distance move with these folks! read more

This was the WORST EXPERIENCE of a move. I interviewed 4 moving companies to move me from Fresno to Nipomo, approx. 170 miles. I decided on DW Ewing Movers because their estimate fell in the middle of all the others. Donna came out to review the items I had to move and gave me a price. The day of the move the 'loader' called me 30 minutes late telling me he was at the location. He was 3 blocks away! I directed him to my location and he arrived in a truck that was way to small to hold all of my belongings. He also told me we would be finished by 2:00 pm and hit the road. At this time Donna decided the truck was too small and ordered another to arrive after 3:00! Needless to say, the two trucks were over packed, leaving my items to get damaged and held haphazardly. The loader also had to remove the doors to my refrigerator to move out of house, then packed it on the truck without putting back together. I insisted it be put back together for the move as it would fit into the new location with the doors on. He was never able to put the doors back on evenly even though he tried banging on the tops!! It was after 6pm we were finally able to hit the road. The next day the trucks arrived and the unloading started. Other than not being able to make sense of where they were putting things, I happened upon one of my decorative Marge Carson table that had deep gouges in the top from the packing of the truck. I was in the middle of telling the 'loader' how damaged it was when he turned away from me. I said "don't you even care that this was damaged?". He replied, "No, I don't really care....I've been in this business for over 30 years, heard it all and really don't care". I WOULD NEVER refer this mover to anyone and will never use again.
