A small, charming sandwich shop right off the main thoroughfare. It's a spot not to be missed. The prosciutto was heavenly - sliced paper thin by the owner who will guide you to the perfect sandwich. Have a glass of vin santo or wine while you wait. I had the prosciutto and artichoke spread sandwich which was perfectly delicious but was jealous of my husband's goat cheese, rucola and prosciutto one. A lovely spot to grab some lunch and head to one of the great vista points for a picnic. read more

Stumbled upon this hidden gem during our passeggiata tonight. John Franco was the absolute best! Please get the antipasti and local wine. His recommendations were on point, and he takes you on a journey of classic Tuscan flavors. The honey truffle was the best thing we ever tried, so much so, that we decided we would check our carryon luggage in order to bring 2 containers of it back with us. There are plenty of reviews on Trip Advisor, but wanted to leave a review on Yelp in order to give John Franco maximum exposure. read more

Pros: - Maybe the best charcuterie board you ever had (called taglierone in Tuscany). Extremely high quality local meats, cheeses, Tuscan bread, and truffle honey. - The local Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine is excellent. - 25 euros for a big taglierone board and two glasses of the local wine. Not cheap, but a good deal for what you get. Definitely get the taglierone board and not the sandwiches. - The owner (John Franco) is highly entertaining if you understand Italian. When we were in there the other two Italian couples seemed to be having a great time listening to his banter, which we didn't understand. Cons: - The place is TINY and can seat only 6 people absolute maximum (only 4 comfortably), so be prepared to wait or come back. - Service is EXTREMELY slow - John will take a leisurely 20 minutes or so making each taglierone board, and if there are folks in front of you the wait can seem like forever. It;'s fun to watch, and even more fun if you can understand his descriptions of each item he's adding (we couldn't), but you can't be in a hurry. It sure seems like he could move a little faster, but I guess it's his place and he can do what he wants. Caveat emptor. - If you ask for a second glass of wine and he offers you an upgrade to a better local wine, check the price first. My second glass of wine (upgraded) added a surprising 15 euros to the cost of our lunch (I was expecting 5-7 maybe), leaving me feeling like I had been taken advantage of due to the language barrier. The wine was very good, but not that much better than the similar wine included with the meat and cheese board. read more

My husband and I visited San Gimignano one morning passing through Tuscany. We checked trip advisor and found this place to be rated #1 and happened to be right near where we were standing. The owner, Franco, came out and asked us to come back in 20 minutes and gave us directions to check out. Beautiful area with unbelievable view. When we came back, we decided to share a meat/ cheese board. We expected this to be good, like most others we'd had through our travels. But, this was by far the best lunch experience we had our entire trip! Franco told us about each piece of meat and type of cheese he was slicing up to put on the board. And then placed each piece so carefully and meticulously on the board- you could tell he cared so much and wanted us to enjoy as much as possible! We ended up staying for quite a while chatting with him while people came in and out buying paninis to go (that he put together from scratch) Bonus tip, buy the truffle honey jars from him! read more

We were looking for a place off the beaten path and found this gem! My husband and I first got two sandwiches and the specialty white wine Franco recommended. He added the truffle honey to my sandwich and it was amazing! After, we got a meat and cheese board for two, and it has been the best we have had on our trip! We were just in London and Paris, but this meat and cheese board took first place! Franco was so sweet and even though there was a very small communication barrier, we seemed understand everything he was telling us. As he was cutting the meat and cheese, he explained what each were. My husband and I were in heaven when he brought out the cheese, meat, truffle honey, marinated eggplant and sun dried tomatoes. And, as if we weren't happy enough, he had us try 3 different biscotti with a dessert wine. Amazing. To top it off, he concluded with a very delicious prosecco. This place is a must if you want a very good, traditional Tuscany lunch!!! The service is amazing as well!!! read more
