He's well-traveled, is a total foodie, and generally knows what he is talking about when it comes to restaurants. Fast-forward about a year and I found myself in Florence as well. I made a reservation on their website, and when we showed up our table was waiting for us on a busy weekend night. We found this place to be a busy, noisy traditionalItalian restaurant with waiters whizzing through tables and taking food and drink orders in just about every language under the sun. We ordered a bottle of Rufino reserve, the white truffle ravioli, and a gigantic Florentine steak. I cannot put into words how good everything on our table was. The ravioli was amazing, I've never tasted truffle like this before. But the star of the show: the steak! We tore through our bone-in ribeye like a fat kid through a buffet. It was unbelievable. Service throughout this entire meal was top notch as well. For dessert we got tiramisu which tasted like it was made by God himself. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I nearly cried at the end of this meal while I devoured dessert. Fast forward to a few days ago when I helped my mom out planning her upcoming trip to Italy. This place is top shelf for sure. Recommended to our by a person we had employed for our tour of the galleries in the morning we had a delicious lunch at this spot. I was along with my two daughters, and while we entertained getting a steak and sharing for lunch, the minimum steak size to order was still about 2 pounds and that was too much for our appetite at that point. I wish it would have been dinner hour as we witnessed a few of the thick porterhouse steaks brought to the tables and they looked AMAZING. Really AMAZING. The steaks brought to tables were definitely on the rare side so be prepared (and I wouldn't ask them to change how they initially cook it and slice it, but if too rare for you then you could ask the add a bit of heat later). Anyway we enjoyed a bottle of a blended red from the region which was wonderful. I'll comment on the wine prices, not many of which were over 40 Euro. For lunch we enjoyed a caprese salad, and entrees of ravioli with truffle sauce, sliced steak and mushrooms and sides of spinach (yum) and cannelini beans (rather plain). The olive oil at the table was delicious added to a few of the items. I'll get a steak next time regardless and count on taking home the leftovers to gnaw on !!!!!! Ciao! read more

The food here wasn't that bad at all! I ordered the fettuccine paste that came with shrimp, zucchini and cherry tomatoes. It was a solid dish but it was a little saltier than most dishes we've had here. It was also a bit spicy. It's likely it had red pepper flakes in it. Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere! We ate here on recommendation from our hotel for an authentic Tuscan meal, and it was excellent! It's a small place. Waiters were smiling and helpful. The only problem we had is the language barrier. Our waiter can understand English but when he answers, he used both Italian and English at once. Even though I understand a little bit of French and my sister understands Spanish, we looked each other with puzzled expression. End of our order, we started to speak Italian. When we entered there, our waiter said that kitchen is about to close, so we must order now. Well, it looks close between 15:30-19:00, but they closed the kitchen at 15:00. No matter what you order, you MUST order dessert afterwards. Try Panna Cotta!! We liked Tiramisu and Cream Caramel but panna cotta is my favorite. In Florence for a day, we wandered down a side street looking for a place to eat. The place was empty when we came upon it, our first thought was to keep looking, but we were so glad we took a chance. They consider themselves a locals restaurant. The place was small and quaint. The staff was friendly and helpful. One of my most favorite and memorable things I've eaten in Italy was right here....Ribollita. It was a cool day, drizzling off and on, so a bowl of their hearty bread soup was perfect. A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. A glass of chianti, I was in heaven. My husband wanted more food, so we split the Rib Eye Steak and Fried Potatoes...of course not as good as an all American steak, but it was good, perfectly cooked, and deliciously seasoned. Potatoes were crisp. The dining room filled up as we ate our dinner. Everyone seemed quiet pleased with their food. We rubbed the bronzed boars' nose before we left Florence so we're bound to return. read more

The first night of my vacation I stayed in an AirBnB right across the street from this place. It had a line outside. As we entered we put our name on the list and stood outside in the warm summer air looking at the meats hanging in the restaurant window. The tables are a little too close and it gets a little loud in the restaurant because of the close proximity to other guests. But the restaurant itself looks like something out of an Italian book. The exposed bricks and art work. Our waiter was boisterous and very matter-of-fact. I liked it. The best dish of all was more of a peasant dish. I don't recall the name but it is white beans with some tomato sauce and this AMAZING homemade sausage that bursted with robust, juicy flavor. I DREAM ABOUT THIS DISH! The proscuitto wrapped melon balls and wine list were great too. If you are looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with good food then this is a good stop to put on your list of must tries. read more

But they were making small talks to every client except us. I mean that's ok if you don't speak Chinese or you don't wanna talk to us, I don't mind at all. but I think when we left, presuming that we can't understand Italian, one of the waiter said: Ciao e non vi voglio più vedere. This was my last meal in Florence, so it stuck out to me a bit, but it has been quite some time. Three dishes still stick with me at this point in time, the octopus, the bread salad, and papadelle cinghiale. We were there in the summer, which is full wild boar season, and I couldn't get enough (my biggest reget was stopping by the well known butcher shop in Greve on a Monday without checking their website, they are closed Mondays...). The bread salad was a bit under dressed for my taste (especially after a hot Florence day), and the wild boar was good but nothing specatcular. However, the octopus was incredible. Shockingly tender, perfectly cooked, with quite a honestly a very large portion, this definitely was one of the highlights of my trip from a seafood perspective, along with the fresh whole white anchovies in Rome (they go bad in under 24 hrs from being caught usually). read more

This is one of Florence's really classic, established restaurants near the Ufrizzi gallery. You are going to pay a tourist tax here near the very heart of Firenze, but probably here less so than other places. But for us everything here was executed beautifully. My son had the Trippa stew, it was very soft and fresh, better than the other one down the street. I had the fried rabbit with onion rings, juicy. The wine was good but, not great, but very fair at 15€. My wife's veal scallopini was delicious lots of mushroom, thick sauce, and plenty of it, a very rich dish. Probably a great place to come for Florentine steak but make a reservation for dinner, and expect a crowd in busy summer. A real classic, I would come back especially for the less crowded early lunch hour, because air and seating here is a bit tight. read more

The spaghetti with meat sauce was delicious, but nothing compares to the chocolate cake we had for dessert. What a terrific meal, service and ambiance. I'd read that Antico was THE place for Florentine steaks and did they ever deliver! The wait staff was smiling (genuinely) throughout the evening. My 12 year old son and I ordered the steak for 2 without the filet and an order of spinach. Both arrived promptly and both were excellent. We weren't the only ones enjoying ourselves... To the right of me was a couple from Seattle who were amazed & delighted by their order (which they couldn't finish) and to our left was a couple, also enjoying a steak, from Kentucky. Both of these tables had pasta for starters (how?!!) We did not. One had pesto & the other pomodoro and remarked on its excellence. The grappa ordering started & I, with great reservations, jumped aboard. Definitely the finest glass of grappa I've had the pleasure of tasting. We had a chocolate mousse/fudge (in consistency if not name) cake with a small dollop of whipped cream. Delectable. The entire bill (with a bottle of $20 Chianti & an aranciatta for the boy) came to $120 for everything. I was happily surprised. I am sorry to say, after visiting this restaurant for the third time while visiting Florence, and having wonderful meals the first two times, this place has gone way down hill in both quality and especially service. After being seated in the back room, our waiter made it clear we would follow his rules and reportedly the rules of the family owned restaurant and chef. No grated cheese and especially olive oil would be provided with the bread (which by the way, was old and stale). Furthermore, how dare we ask for any deviation in the type of pasta or ingredients! Both of these relatively minor requests resulted in an embarrassing lecture and severe reprimand for even asking, all under the auspices of "the family owners and chef will not allow for this". These lectures were directed at me in front of my family. The food we were finally served after being put in our place was mediocre. What we experienced is a classic example of the attitude of a restaurant who has more business than they know what to do with - in other words, "we do not need your business and do not care if you never return, we are full each evening". As we all know, once a restaurant falls into this category, their demise is inevitable over time. Ironically, the owner's son or son-in law (we are not sure which) was on-hand speaking with some other patrons but did not make it over to our table. He (and the other owner family members) would hopefully be horrified to hear of the customer treatment by one of their waiters. My hope is the owners do not have this same entitled attitude toward customers. The bottom line is, there are too many other really good restaurants in Florence that appreciate your business and serve outstanding food. Unfortunately, Trattoria Antico Fattore is not one of them, therefore, I would steer clear of this place. We will not be returning and if you choose to, be prepared for an unpleasant experience. read more

Great food and exceptional service. We were looking for the best Florentine steak and heard about Antico Fatorre from our Perillo tour guide and several locals. The steak and other food was amazing and the wine (as referred by our waiter) was phenomenal. Price was great, especially for the quality of food and service. They even discounted the bill, which we happily tipped back to the waiter. Reservations are definitely recommended. We got there early and were offered Prosecco wine while we waited. I highly recommend this restaurant, as did everyone waiting in line with us, most of which were repeat customers. read more

We arrived with a warm welcome, we were sat right away, our server Antonio greeted us, we were not ready to order, he did not rush us... In short, every part of my experience at this restaurant was fantastic. The service was great, our server went out of his way to explain the menu and the wine list to us. He might actually be my favorite server all time. Me and my coworkers were the last ones in the restaurant around midnight and they still treated us great and took the time to give us recommendations for our remaining time in Florence even though we clearly kept them past closing time. The wines were to die for (though not cheap, but that was by choice). The food was great and had a home made feel to it. I had spaghetti with white truffle sauce which was delicious. Afterwards, i had arguably the best tiramisu that I've had in my life (dont tell that to my grandma!). The place was filled with locals and they were all very friendly.
