Oohhh these guys... I just love how they bougie up our beloved mochi the classic treat that's not too sweet but does give you the freedom to enjoy it plain, stuffed or dusted with various coatings. Da Mochi Guys does that and more as I found them at Makana Mkt in Ka Makana Ali'i Sunday market from 11a-3p it's just so hard to resist peeking in to see the load they have made for the day with one table with the classic mochi stuffed with Oreo, cookie butter, brownie and kulolo while another table had the butter mochi OMG! Biscoff, Biko and OG that was it for me as I got the OG but noticed a jar of Dubai spread a jar that was a great way to turn any treat to Dubai yumminess which is so smart. The staff there was a trooper in the torrential rain pouring down as it got pretty intense at times but happy to support these great local small biz and share a bit of that happy vibe along the way. They had Bubs gummy candies and I nearly screamed--I LOVE Swedish bonbon-style candy, and these were just as yummy as I remembered. I also got the Dubai chocolate mochi, and fun fact: they source the pistachio cream and toasted kataifi pastry directly from Turkey. When my friend tried it, he said it was the best Dubai chocolate dessert he's ever had. It sells out fast, so if it's on the menu--do NOT skip it! It's expensive but worth trying! read more

I once went to a pop up at What the Truck in Waikele and was lucky enough to get exactly what I came for, the cookie butter stuffed mochi. It was so good that I wanted more, so I followed the business on Instagram and started going to their other pop ups at places like the Village Market in Pearlridge, Kapolei, and even Kaneohe. Each time I drove out, often pretty far, but every single time they had already "run out" of that specific mochi, even when I made sure to arrive within the first hour. The owner often boasts that they're always fully stocked, so I started to wonder if they were actually making enough of this item. My daughter ended up buying a couple of their other items, like Dubai chocolate bars for $20 each (which were small) and a "strawberry Dubai cup" that wasn't actually a cup but a little tray made by one of their kids. It was tiny and honestly overpriced for what it was. When I asked the owner how I could place an order, he told me to DM them on Instagram. I did that several times but never got a response. I also tried commenting on their posts, but their page limits comments so you can't. On a few joint posts with other businesses where comments were open, I tagged them and asked how to order. I even noticed other people asking the same thing, but none of us ever got a reply. Finally, I read their bio and saw a phone number to text for orders. I tried that too, multiple times over several months, and was still ignored. It's now been over six months of me trying to place an order, and I've never received a single response. At this point, I can't help but wonder what kind of business operates like this? Are they too good for certain customers? Or are they not attentive purposely? And why can't people comment? I thought mochi was at least one day, but the one time I did not eat right away, it went bad. Not even one day, i put it it in fridge until next morning and it was HARD. From Friday- what the truck to Sat Morning, it came hard and uneatable. I was going to eat it that morning with breakfast.. so both packs were wasted. Tried the Dubai chocolate strawberries at the What the Truck event at Waikele. There were 2 sizes for this, one that was a small tray the size of your hand ($15 shown in picture) & $20 one in a bowl, that BARELY had just a little more than the tray. These are definitely overpriced for what was given. It looked like there was only 2-3 of chopped up strawberries in the tray. Ate it all in 3 bites. I love these guys and their products! I literally seek them out whenever I'm on Oahu. They have a food truck that bounces around between the cities and they also attend some of the food events that are happening on the island. They are obviously known for their stuffed mochi, and my favorite one is their cookie butter crunch. It tastes just like the cookie butter that you can get at Trader Joe's, and the mochi is always so soft and shaped so perfectly. They also have many other flavors, like Oreo bomb, cocoa tilly, ube, etc., as well as seasonal flavors such as pumpkin crunch and other holiday flavors. In addition, they often sell items such as chichi dango, butter mochi and mochi ice cream parfait. Their menu changes often, but the best way to know where they'll be and what they'll be selling is by following them on Instagram. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes they are late to set up at events. One time I waited for them for almost an hour at the "What the Truck" event in Kapolei. They were super late to arrive, and by the time they set everything up it was an hour later. read more

Unprofessional. Didn't even get to try their desserts, I waited in line I was the first one there as the guy just brought the crates to set up, and somehow some other people formed their own line. After 10 min goes by the customer laughs and tells me "you know the line is there". As the guy setting up SAW me standing there and didn't even greet me or direct me to the line that was "formed". The filling-to-mochi ratio is perfect. I wanted to eat all of the mochi in one sitting but I did pace myself. I put the leftover mochi in the refrigerator to eat the next day. After about an hour of thawing, I found that while the texture of the mochi changed slightly, it still tasted as good as when I first bought it. read more

After finally getting to the front of the line, it was so matter of fact, no greeting or smiling face. Put in my order and it was packed up quickly- the mochi are prepacked so it's just a matter of grabbing what you ordered. They have a great variety of flavors and we were excited to try it. The mochi was soft and chewy and the fillings as described. However the mochi is kind of on the small side, especially for the price you pay and in comparison to other stuffed mochi on the market. Wow their stuffed mochi was amazing! I was excited to try their mochi since I was stalking their IG. They usually do pop ups on the weekends, but only near Ewa Beach side (Please do a pop up in town!!). They also allow you to preorder their mochi by the dozen and you can schedule a pick up with them. Ordering via text was easy - just fill out their order form and text it over. I decided to go with the assorted regular flavors (oreo bomb, brownie, and cookie dough) and a dozen of the deluxe flavor (cocoa-tilly). All soo good! My favorite was the oreo bomb. Disgusting MOLD on mochi bought less than 24 hours ago last night at the Pearl ridge night market. This was their expensive 4 piece for 12$ stuffed Kulolo mochi set. The kulolo inside was also very old and dry, the mochi must've been at least 2 days old when they sold it to us last night. My pregnant wife and 2 year old daughter ate the other pieces last night and this morning, I hope they're okay... My son and I went to Waikele a couple of Months ago when they had the food truck trucks out. We got there kinda late but we wanted try anything and everything.... so we paid for a sample pack that was ridiculously priced then she had a blank look & said oh babe you got any change?!?! husbands is sitting on the tailgate and says "no" and SHE looked at us as if were supposed to give her the rest of the change which was $3 so Fricken NAILS!!! Ya know.. I wish it were 5 star review but it was just a weird first experience. I've stalked them for a good couple of months on none other that IG. They're always sold out and normally their truck is engulfed in a crowd of customers. By a stroke of luck I drove past them on a Sunday parked in the beginning of Waimanalo with a handful of people waiting. I was the only person standing in line waiting to order. I kid you not I waited in line for 5mins before anyone acknowledged me, he looked at me then continued making orders, then his wife looked out the window, looked at me didn't say a word and continued doing whatever. To their defense, a lot of people that were waiting in their cars seemed to have ordered multiple products so I'm sure they were overwhelmed. I gave them my order of 2 things and their system shut down and had to be rebooted. I went from being the only person in line to about 10-15 individuals just standing behind me. I waited another 10mins for my transition to finish, he's running around dropping off mochi to people still in their cars. I finally get my card back and haul ass home. First off, the butter mochi container wasn't even full, they could have fit at least one more piece in there but decided not to.. and after opening the Kulolo mochi container I realized it was wet. Like super wet and gooey. Picked it up and it just melted. Kinda disappointing considering I'm paying $17 for something that wasn't anything special, to me at least. I had shared with my family and we kinda all just looked at each other with a "ho hum" expression. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying them. My family loves Da Mochi Guys! Mochi is always soft and fresh. But how could it not be-they always sell out so they alway need to make new product! Flavors are unique. I have given it as gifts and the recipients are always happy. When i had to do a fundraiser for work, this was the first and only vendor I contacted and my questions were answered promptly. My son won't eat anyone else's mochi. He has literally asked me if he can throw out a couple of other popular mochi makers product. For the people that are complaining: first, if you consistently see them selling out and people in long lines, then you know the product is good. Second, when the lines are long, they are trying to get through it as quickly as possible so people don't have to keep waiting. This is a small family business and they are also balancing their young kids and multiple events. It tasted like playdoh with mashed Oreos inside but the Oreos somehow tasted burnt and the texture of the mochi was a little hard. Next was the cake batter. My daughter took a bite and spat it out. She looked at me and said "ewww mom it tastes gross". Still curious, I had to try it so I took a small bite and I had the same reaction. I removed the filling and tried to eat just the mochi part and now I could really taste the "playdoh" taste. We couldn't finish it and tossed this piece in the trash. The fruity pebbles was a bit sweet. My daughter liked the filling but tossed the mochi. I tried a small bite and didn't like the sweetness and it still tasted like playdoh. This was also tossed. Lastly, the cookie butter. This was decent. The flavor was pretty good and the mochi didn't taste like playdoh and the texture was good too. But paying $7 for just one decent piece of filled mochi out of four pieces is definitely not worth it!! The first time I went there was a line so I waited patiently and when I got to the front of the line, the guy didn't even greet me. When I ordered what I wanted which was 1 item, he asked me if that was all and then made my order. I paid cash and he seemed irritated he had to give me change. I thought maybe he was just having a bad day so I let it slide. The next time I went there was no greeting again, the guy cut me off mid order and when he asked me if that was all which it wasn't, he rolled his eyes at me for asking about another item. I was just wondering and as the customer I think I have the right to at least get an answer. After he gave me my bag of goods, I thanked him and all he said was, "yeah." I've seen this small locally owned business on Instagram and wanted to see what the mochi was like , so I went down to one of their pop-ups and let me tell you... I am not a fan. The customer service was rude and kind've cold. The prices were pretty high for such small portions. And the mochi was kind've bland. I got the "coco-tilly" mochi, I liked the coco flavored mochi but the "tilly" portion was so runny it just fell out when we bit into the mochi. We also got the brownie stuffed mochi. The mochi was wet underneath and had a weird texture, the brownie filling was good, just wished the outside was on par to match. And lastly we bought the cookie butter stuffed mochi. Finally got to try their mochi at Ala Moana Market. Bought the kulolo and ube mochi. Tried the kulolo when I got home, mochi itself did not have any taste, just tasted like the flour on top. Filling was small and blah, nothing special. I'm not sure what all the rave is all about. Ate my second piece for breakfast, mochi was already hard and when I bite into mochi kulolo and mochi was watery. That was simply gross and not edible. As I looked at my kulolo mochi I noticed small dots of mold ! Simple answer, their mochi are not made fresh !!! I can't tell if my ube mochi has mold because mochi is purple.
