I have mixed feedback on the teacher. Some teachers are still learning how to teach, some are professional and experienced. My kid was very lucky to start off with Miss Heather who has tremendous patience with young swimmers and can immediate correct the pose yet making it fun to learn swimming. Unfortunately, my kid is now stuck with the teacher who is unwillingly move her up even though she's ready for the next level. Another reason for the two star -- the changing room sucks - dirty, old and shower in women's changing room is always broken... forcing people to rinse in public shower in front of the pool. No privacy what so ever. read more

My oldest daughter started here when she was 4 or 5... She's now 9 and in the pre-comp program. I really think the repetitions that they taught while she was younger (while at the time sometimes feel so useless) helps her to gain better swim postures. When I watch other kids on the pre-comp program who came from years of DACA swim school and others who didn't I can truly see the difference. So stick with the program ... Teaching young kids proper swimming is not a short term quick process. My 2nd daughter is now in the swim school as well and likely my son will too (once he's old enough to go in the pool by himself. Mama is too lazy to go in the water with him hahah). Minus half star because couple times we got instructors that we didn't really like. I think they rotate the teachers every some period of time. Before this used to concern me. But now I think the change is good because every new teacher introduces new challenge for the kids. Most instructor that we had have been great though. Minus another half star because waiting space and changing room is small. But hey we came for the swim lesson not to hang out. Shout out to wonderful office crew who always entertain my daughter while the other one is having her lesson. And hooray for free wifi! read more

I love taking my son to DACA the teachers know their stuff and all the staff is extremely friendly. They do their best to accommodate times that work for you. We are currently in water babies and Michael makes the class really fun. My son gets vey excited when we get there. Couldn't be happier!!! read more

Note: This is referring to the Summer DACA program that was at DeAnza college. We had a great experience in the DACA Summer Sessions offered at De Anza College. Each session was two weeks, M-Th for 30 minutes. My 4 year old had not taken swim lessons before but was comfortable in the water. Her teacher Lindsay was EXCELLENT. She got her into the water and going from the start. In fact, I felt she had improved so much in the first session that I signed her up for an additional two week session with Lindsay and it turned out to be a private lesson! We were lucky in that even in the first session there was only one other child - so not too much "wait" time. I also felt Lindsay was always observant of the kids, and also good at being able to talk my daughter into trying some new things (yet never pushing or forcing her to do anything). I hope Lindsay will be back next Summer and hopefully my schedule can allow it. I'm looking into continuing during the year - but may try out a few lessons to see based on mixed reviews here... read more

After trying Saratoga aquatic center for about 8 months of no success at all I decided to give DACA swim school a try and was my best move so far:) I absolutely loved this place , my daughter (4 years old )is taking the swim splash program (witch is so convenient to me and fun to her) and just after 4 months here she had improved a lot ( backstroke ,under water swimming and deep diving ,etc) We are having a great experience here by far ,so Thanks to the professionalism of the team the runs DACA swim school For sure I will recommend this place to anyone read more

My seven year old daughter and I had an abysmal experience with the Supervisor/Instructor Roshni at DACA Swim School. I enrolled her at DACA six months ago, and she enjoyed her weekly lessons there. The only issue at the time was that her instructors kept changing every few months. When I took her there for her lesson yesterday, we were told that a supervisor would be teaching her since she hadn't been assigned a new instructor yet. Before the lesson, I told Roshni to keep in mind that my daughter was very scared to go the deep end of the pool, with the hopes that she would make her as comfortable as possible when taking here there, and help ease the transition to an element of DACA swimming that had been frightening her for a while. She gave me a very abrupt and rude "okay" in response to this. My instinct felt this was foreshadowing my daughter being very poorly treated by her, and unsurprisingly, this was exactly the case. The very beginning of the class was at the deep end of the pool, which abruptly placed my daughter in a very frightening situation to her. Roshni was very rude to my daughter throughout the lesson, instigating quite a bit of fear in her, and this resulted in her starting to cry as well. As if she wasn't being rude enough, Roshni also threatened my daughter that if she continued to cry, she would ask her mother to go sit in the car (I was a witness to this entire interaction). I am appalled that she had the guts to talk to my daughter like that, let alone while I was sitting right there. Her attitude and statements exude that she feels she has the authority to be rude to kids and their families, and threaten them as well. Roshni also forced my daughter underwater while she was clearly breathless and anxious. It is immensely shocking to me that a Supervisor at this school has such poor communication skills, rude behavior, and extreme unprofessionalism. read more

I had enrolled my 5 year old for 8 swim classes as I bought a home with swimming pool. The instructor we were assigned was ok. After I moved out of cupertino I realised that my credit card was being charged monthly. I called they said that the sign up is for ongoing classes and I had to explicitly cancel. I do not remember this being said to specifically and it was apparently part of the sign up forms. I had mentioned to the front desk at the time that I will want to only 8 classes as then I will be moving out of Cupertino. Please be aware that you will need to cancel explicitly if you discontinue. I tried to get the money back but no avail! Not fair considering that there are no make up classes etc. read more

This has been our 8 year old son's best swim class ever. The instructors are amazing. I write this review today, as he received his Gold medal & now is ready for Pre-Comp.. Yaay! Still remember how scared he was & would cry the first couple months if starting o learn to swim & still cant believe he is ready to start PreComp! Both of my kids swim at DACA. We really like our swim coach Sean D. He is extremely patient and excellent with kids. He makes the lessons so fun and enjoyable for the kids. At the end of each lesson, the kids refuse to go!!! We love DACA and will continue to come back because of Sean!!! read more

Today was the first day of my son's water babies swim class. He's 11 months old, and it didn't really seemed like it was geared towards younger babies. There was only one other child in the class though, so it was like a private lesson. My baby screamed his head off but maybe that's just cause it was his first day. We'll see how he does the next time. read more

Really disappointed with this swim school. My daughter went there for 5 months and son for about 2 months. Very bored and unmotivating teachers just doing it for the sake of it. They did not even know how to deal with a 4 year old. Teacher treated a 4 year old and 7 year old who was clearly way advanced the same way. Why were the two even in the same class? I took my son to the parent n me class for 2 months. Lola was awesome and deserves 5 stars but after 3 classes she left for a 6 week vacation and boy was it a mess! The subs had absolutely no clue! The subs changed every class. Once there was a teenage girl who had no idea whatsoever! I had to tell what to do. She didn't even know the nursery rhymes! What a waste of time and money! Their no make up class policy is another money making idea! Kids and babies fall sick and will inadvertently miss classes. The showers and changing area are super filthy too. The one closed shower stall is soo dirty and broken you can never use it and whats with people queuing up for it by leaving their shampoo there! We took our business elsewhere and even though it is slightly more expensive, still turns out cheaper cause we can do make up classes. My daughter has progressed more in 2 classes than in the 4 months at daca! read more

Heard "great" things about DACA and so recently enrolled my 5 year old daughter there. BIG disappointment! My daughter could already swim on her own (face down) in the water and I was looking for an indoor swim school for the fall/winter months. BEWARE of the following "issues" with this swim school: --No formal instruction on the technique of swimming whatsoever. It's essentially daycare, but in the water. The high school/college-age kids that run the place have no genuine interest in teaching the children any real swimming techniques; just lets them splash around. --Whenever there is a problem (e.g. too many classes/kids concentrated at one end of the pool) and it's brought to the Deck Supervisor's attention, all you get is a condescending/patronizing response (e.g. "yeah, yeah..."). No professionalism of any kind exhibited. --Most of the instructors spend more time looking at the clock than focusing on teaching the kids any real technique. --All of the instructors like to push your child's head down in the water by applying their hand to the back of the child's head/neck and submerging them in the water. This is a method that I have never seen done in other swim schools. I would definitely NOT recommend DACA to anyone. This swim school seems more interested in taking your money than actually teaching your child how to swim. read more

My 3 year old daughter learns swimming with Ms. Sonia once a week. The pool, dressing rooms, bathroom and shower are very clean. My daughter loves her swimming classes and its something she looks forward to each week. The staff at the front desk is courteous and responsive. Ms. Sonia is an excellent teacher and within 2 months, I could see good progress in my daughter's swimming skills. Ms. Sonia is very patient with her and under her, I'm sure my daughter will blossom into a world class swimmer in time!! read more

Really depends on the teacher at DACA. A couple of years ago, my daughters started at DACA. We were lucky and got an excellent instructor who was able to effectively teach our daughters and challenged them. We took a break and when we returned we weren't so lucky with our new instructor. In five weeks, our girls had five different instructors. I find that to be unacceptable and not an effective way to teach in any setting. Nobody was able to thoroughly assess their skills or follow through with instructions because no instructor was there for even two weeks straight. I brought it up to the front desk, finally, and they told me "yeah, your instructor had been sick and then was out of town". That's fine,...but really, management or ownership should be giving parents a heads up and trying to communicate with them about making the most out of the classes. It took me approaching the desk and formally withdrawing for them to give me a reason why my girls haven't had a consistent teacher--Which was no excuse at all. Wanted to say favorable things but I can't. We loved our previous instructor, Francisco, but he is no longer there. I kinda forgot who our intended instructor is because it's hardly ever her. read more

Both my children have learned to swim at DACA and now one is in competitive and one in pre-competitive. The whole staff has become part of the family. Everyone of the clases at every level has provided a good coach and a positive experience for my kids. As with everything, the effort you put in, the results you will earn. The DACA program is big enough, that everyone will find a level and class they will belong to. If a person wants to do more than learn to swim, there is competition. If the goal is to improve times or just fitness they help with that too. From baby swimming to the national Team, adult swimming and fitness. Everyone can find a swimming lesson and a good coach. DACA Swim School is nothing short of amazing! They have taught both of my daughters learn how to swim and are getting them ready for competitive swimming. My kids love DACA so much they keep asking to attend more days a week. The instructors are incredible and are highly trained. There is consistency among teaching no matter which instructor you have. Through difficult times DACA has made sure that the girls continue to swim and enjoy their time in the water. We are very grateful to this swim school and their amazing staff!! We had and continue to have a good experience at DACA for our 6 y old girl. She started when she was about 4 and progressed through all the levels and graduated into the pre-competitive level. All along, she had very good instructors (Francisco, Edward, Travis, Roshni, Amanda, Monty) who kept her focused on learning the skill and also have fun in the process. Sometimes, it gets difficult to find time slots that suit you, but the office staff does share when something opens up. Overall, we are happy with the school and recommend to others. read more

My 2 boys have been going to DACA for about 2 years. I am really pleased at their progress and they have good technique. Teaching is 4 to 1 but very often the classes are smaller, which means more individual attention. One of my sons is very shy and the instructor handled it very well, and after a while my son announced he LOVED swimming, quite unlike him to be so enthusiastic. All the instructors we had were great and we all enjoyed going. It is hard to see progression but then unless you get in the pool with them you won't but whenever I started to wonder if they actually were improving they got moved up a class, and the boys got their next ribbon (colored ribbons are awarded according to the new skills each child learns). The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. My only gripes are the size of the viewing area, there is only seating on one side of the deeper pool, and the area to walkway around the pool is very narrow, and the very small changing rooms are totally inadequate for a swimming pool, especially if parents are going in with their children to help them change. read more

The best swim school ever!! We have experienced swim schools all over the country--this by far is exceptional! Send your kids here and the teachers will guide them to be the best they can be and beyond! We have sent our daughter here since October-she has moved up 3 levels thanks to the exceptional instructors. She can dive, float, swim under water for rings, hold her breath to swim the length of the pool, etc. and she is only a preschooler! All of my kids have been going to DACA at some point in time. In general, I like the school. Most of the instructors are good with kids and I see the kids' skills improving. What bothers me - female instructors chatting during ongoing lessons. Sometimes my kid spends up to 10 minutes sitting on the stairs waiting for the instructor to start the lesson while she chats with other instructors and staff on the deck. It's 1/3 of the lesson! It gets me irritated. read more

Pros: The instructors are nice and patient which I think is really important. Cons: The prices are a bit high but it think that it's because of the cost of running a pool in Cupertino. 1.When started it was good, but after 2 sessions there were 4 kids in the batch and 3 of them are in their 3s(including my son) which makes it very hard for the kids/instructor both. My son attended just because I'd already paid for the next month. In each session with such small kids each of them were getting like 5-6 mins, in a week! 2.No make up classes 3. If you are looking to go to DACA swimschool for adult lessons, you will be disappointed big time. As my daughter is going there for classes, i thought i would save time by enrolling myself there as well. tried this whole summer for 3 months. believe me.. i didn't learn anything at all. class is for 30 minutes with 3 others. instructors are pretty new. i complained about it and they changed once. once, they monitored the instructor. she doesn't teach the technique. most of the times, she would say my swim style is not looking right and unable to pinpoint where the mistake it. on top of all, the pool to use for swimming is very small (10 meters or so). i felt like i wasted my time & money by going there 3 full months. i could have tried better place. now, i am trying out santa clara swim club masters program and it seems to be good. let's see how this goes. read more

We *LOVE* DACA! Have been bringing our 2 kids (7 and 3.5 yrs old) here for 10 months and ALL the teachers and staff have been amazing. It is incredible how much our kids have learned in such a short time - which is a testament to the teachers! We enrolled our kids to help build their confidence in the water and socially. Stefan has been fantastic with our younger kiddo and has worked with her since she turned 3. It is a really safe environment with multiple teachers patrolling the deck. They have small classes and their teaching style is flexible to meet the needs of individual kiddos. Our kiddos always look forward to their classes! read more

I am less than impressed with this place. At first I loved it because I could take my kids there year round and they had classes everyday. They have all levels from mother-baby to advanced. This was nice because I was able to take both kids at the same time. However, the illusion was shattered shortly after that. Their communication to parents is limited. There is no report card on progress and speaking with the instructor is next to impossible as they have back to back classes. They will move your child up to the next level when they feel s/he is ready but even when signing them up for the next session, nobody could tell me if my kids could go to the next stage or not. The restrooms and changing rooms are only serviced once a week. On one Saturday morning, both male and female restrooms were out of toilet paper, trash on the floor and wet floors mixed with dirt. Speaking with the "manager on duty" proved pointless. Furthermore, there are really no meaningful dressing rooms ... basically the bathrooms are the changing rooms but there are no benches, lockers etc like you might find in a more traditional location. I should note that the men's room has two VERY narrow changing stalls but are not very functional--assuming that you are one of the two who is even able to grab a stall. Finally, they have young adults standing between the two pools. I don't know what their function is ... lifeguard, observer or pool cop but since they often have their backs to everything engrossed in their own conversations, I don't think they are providing anything of value. I am going to try out some other local places and see if I can find one that it cleaner and more family friendly. read more

I have 2 girls that have been taking lessons since they were 3 months old (they're 2 and 1 now). Their policies suck, the facility is small and the bathrooms are small. It's my girls' instructors that I love (Sean and Oliver). Having the right instructor makes a HUGE difference. I enjoy taking my girls now more than ever. S&O are very challenging, they are not afraid to toss my girls in the water. And its indoor! read more

Horrible experience for me. I don't know how beginner swimmers can feel safe "while nurturing a love for the water" as their brochures tell you, when the instructors involuntarily submerge children underwater at their first swim lesson. This is not boot camp for the military!! It is little kids just trying to learn how to swim!! How much crying, protesting is okay with this teaching method? Parents have a right to know what techniques are being used prior to registration just like with any other classes/schools. DACA does not tell you what they are going to do with your kids and frankly they don't really care about you or your kids. Children are minors but they also deserve the right to know and understand what is going to be done to their bodies. Plunging them unawares underwater doesn't help them to feel more confident about the water. Parents also know their children best not their teachers despite the "wisdom" of these teachers. Their salary ultimately comes from satisfied parents and children, whether they acknowledge that or not. As a parent, I don't think this program is at all "nuturing". Swimming is a skill easily achieved by all, through many means. Submerging kids and making them cry is not the ONLY way a person learns to swim. Personally this approach is not one I agree with. read more

We have had serious issues with the change of instructors. When we escalated the issue to the the Director Jerry he just hung up on as he had no answer or solution to the issue. This is the most unprofessional behavior I have seen. I learnt this a non profit organization and thus managed in a very bad manner. My child hasn't progressed for months. She has been on green ribbon for more than 6 months. Classes aren't cheap either. I have seen membership dropping tremendously over the past one year that we have been going. In Aug 2012 classes would be full and there would be no place to stand inside the pool v/s empty classes and decks in August 2013. Total waste of money. read more
