With plenty of acreage at the northeast corner of Howell & Clark Ferguson, this is a safe and serviced greenspace just waiting to be explored. The 'soft' track encircles the park if you want to get some steps, and there are great ball fields just waiting for spring to come so they can be used frequently. Tennis courts are at the east end and the restroom facilities are found on both sides of the park. Enjoy NKC's public spaces! We popped by after visiting the City/River Market and took a stroll along the river, passing by the beach volleyball courts, playgrounds, river view platform, green space and even a local beer garden! The full area is currently in transition with lots of mixed use developments under construction, so another 12-18 months and this place is going to be unrecognizable. With that, the current amenities are a bit skimp, with no public restrooms beyond porta-potties and not much more to do than volleyball, walking/jogging, and grabbing a beer. But again, ground floor of the development and the park itself is nice so far. This park is the end/start point of the KC Streetcar, which is wonderful! While we walked here, we decided to take the Streetcar back to downtown. It was a perfect spot to hop on. The park is well kept, clean and an overall excellent spot to spend a some time wandering around or through. Excited to see what it morphs into as the developments continue, but already impressed!

At 304 acres, Kessler Park is a the prominent park in the historic Northeast area of Kansas City…read more The park was opened in 1895 and has several key attractions that date back to the beginning of the KC's world class parks and boulevards system. The architect of that renown "City Beautiful" movement was none other than George Kessler, although the park was named for him many years after opening. The top attraction is Cliff Drive, although it is no longer accessible by vehicle. Due to trash dumping and late night crime, the beautiful drive with cliffs, waterfalls and lush greenery can only be accessed by foot or bike. The frisbee golf course looked pretty neglected on my drive thru also. The key components that are very well maintained is The Concourse; a subset park located in Kessler. The Colonnade is a century old stone pavilion and outlook with ornate and classic design features; an iconic KC landmark. Across the street is a large majestic fountain that allows fun and frolic for children and a large well maintained playground with large hillside slides. A park that all metro residents owe it to themselves to visit, although it has seen better days.

The northern point of the park is referred to as Clark's Point and a grand statue honoring the expedition now rests there. The northerly and westerly views are unbeatable for seeing 2 rivers, 2 states, 4 counties, The Buck O'Neil Bridge, The Wheeler Downtown Airport, The West Bottoms, The River Market and plenty of land beyond. The views are even better in the colder months when the perimeter trees do not have leaves. A perfect place to introduce a newcomer to Kansas City's geography, history and natural beauty.

This park is just up the road from where we live so we've been coming here for years. It's a long…read morestretch of grass that runs along the bluff overlooking the West Bottoms and the river. So, needless to say, the views are spectacular from the various overlook points. There is parking, which is nice for a down town park, and there is plenty of room to run around. A sidewalk loops the park which is nice for joggers and strollers. There is a small, non-traditional playground at the south corner of the park meant for kids who are a bit older (elementary school age, not pre-school or younger). Although I bring my pre-toddler here often and she likes to just sit on the astroturf and watch the older kids. There used to be grills but those were taken out which is a shame. I used to come here and grill with my family. Having said all that, I am only giving this park 4 stars because of the inevitable issue with homeless people who frequently hang around and sleep at this park. It hasn't been so bad lately, but when I've been here before, we've been approached by some of these guys asking for money or cigarettes. So, if you're not too keen on that aspect of a downtown park, you might want to steer clear.

Why bother to go there? I can do it here too!! It was almost 18:40 if I don't get my walk done it will be dark soon when we get there. I'm so happy that we stopped and came here as we've been passing by here hundreds of time but never ever have any thought to STOP. I saw 3 different group of people here. One was about 2-3 young couples with their dogs (on leash), people talking, dogs playing with each other; one group was family, parents with kids, playing around playground area; one group was 3-4 young guys, hang out at park and chatting. There was also 3-4 individuals walking around the outside rim of the park sidewalk. We walked about 3 laps/took some photos, enjoyed the view of unique houses/apartment nearby, church bell sound, look of building in the city and sunset in the park, everything I saw/felt there last night was nice. This little park surprised me, I really appreciate its offer, makes me want to come back to walk again whenever I am around this area. Hope you can come visit, feel it yourself too.
