If you know where to look, there are numerous off-road walking trails through the trees and brush. During the Christmas season, they reopen it for a drive-through Christmas lights exhibit. Personally, I find it nostalgic and beautiful, maybe even romantic, to walk through the fall or winter evening with a friend. It offers some of the most fantastic views in Kansas City. We popped by after visiting the City/River Market and took a stroll along the river, passing by the beach volleyball courts, playgrounds, river view platform, green space and even a local beer garden! The full area is currently in transition with lots of mixed use developments under construction, so another 12-18 months and this place is going to be unrecognizable. With that, the current amenities are a bit skimp, with no public restrooms beyond porta-potties and not much more to do than volleyball, walking/jogging, and grabbing a beer. But again, ground floor of the development and the park itself is nice so far. This park is the end/start point of the KC Streetcar, which is wonderful! While we walked here, we decided to take the Streetcar back to downtown. It was a perfect spot to hop on. The park is well kept, clean and an overall excellent spot to spend a some time wandering around or through. Excited to see what it morphs into as the developments continue, but already impressed!

I didn't expect to find this beautiful fountain here, but it was a beautiful surprise. The walkways of the park put you less than a block away from Country Club Plaza, but I was well within walking distance of the Kemper Contemporary Museum of Art and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. My cousin recommended we stop by this park, which she remembered was close by. To be fair, I had pretty low expectations but I was so pleasantly surprised by this cool spot. First of all, it's not a generic park at all. You've got a giant sea monster made out of concrete and play structure that is made have the look and feel of a pirate ship - it's so fun for pretend play, and such a unique concept for a public park. My kiddo LOVED the sea monster and got such a kick out of it. Aside from that the park is a really good size and you've got a pretty standard playset next to the pirate ship, some swings, and loads of things to climb on, including some play rocks, which I think is a nice touch and sort of compliments the unique nature of this park. 4/5 stars simply because there is some room for improvement - mostly in the restroom area, as they did not look clean/safe, so we used the good ole travel potty for our toddler and made our way home after playing. Overall if you're in the area this is a really fun park for kids and it's worth exploring!

Just a fantastic, peaceful gathering space and I'm so glad the city had the foresight to build this park and not just add more rows of houses. I have many fond memories of moseying down here with my daughter when she was a baby through about age 4 -- perfect playground for that age. Also my buddy Scout, my dog of nine years and I have been here with wind chills of -20, and on summer days in the 100's. There are so many friendly people and we sort of band together with our pups on the coldest days. We found community here with an organic, casual dog meet up group.. I still miss it, my new neighborhood doesn't have the same energy. You'll find it packed on snow days with sledders dominating the perfect sledding hill. Those first real warm spring days give way to people playing baseball, throwing frisbees and cooking out. My only knocks are that there needs to be better crosswalks around here. Cars really fly through this area, unfortunately, and the city could take some better precautions. Additionally there's no bathroom. Funny how when I lived a five minute walk from here I didn't mind, but now when we visit and there's nowhere to go, it's definitely more noticeable. Anywho, it's a true gem for this dense neighborhood.
