While staying at the Azur hotel in Vancouver, BC, where Dahlia is located, it seemed like a cozy nice place to have lunch before going out to explore Downtown Vancouver streets. Dahlia is one of those hidden gems, with very nice staff, great service and delicious bites for a quick or a nice and long lunch, happy hour or dinner. Special kudos to their complete wine menu that had an alcohol-free sparkling wine that paired amazingly with the Dahlia burger, which is the best cost-benefit of the happy hour menu!!! We had a nice evening at Dahlia, but we were very surprised that the outdoor patio that they mention on their website is very small. They only have 3 tables, 2 of them being high tops and not very comfortable for sitting. We sat at the 1 table that had regular comfortable chairs. As someone else had mentioned the traffic noise and lack of privacy because it is right on the main street and pedestrians walk very close to your table so the shrubbery does not allow for any privacy. It is a very small restaurant and nicely designed. It is right off the main lobby so there is a certain intimacy that is lacking. It is not a fine dining restaurant because it is just off the entrance to the hotel and the reception area. We were during happy hour and had wine from the happy hour menu and calamari. The calamari was good. For entrees I had the NY strip with French fries substituted for vegetables and my husband had marinated lamb chops with salad. The NY strip was decent and the cowboy butter served with it added a lot of flavor to the steak. The steak had too much fat on it. The service was very good. There was only 1 server working so she was kept very busy. It was good. If I could rate 3 1/2 * I feel that would be appropriate. read more

Do not book a celebration here!! I booked my birthday lunch here because the restaurant looked beautiful online, but I ended up having the worst birthday experience. Service was extremely slow, we couldn't order off the menu we wanted, I found a piece of rope in my sandwich and food was subpar. I arrived and there wasn't a host. The bartender looked my way but did not acknowledge me, then I saw my aunt had already arrived so I walked over to her table. I booked my birthday lunch for a Sunday and wanted to try their Dine Out Vancouver menu only to be told they only serve brunch on weekends. This was misleading as their website states 'lunch Sat & Sun from 11:30am-2:30pm' (their website has since been updated after I sent a screenshot to Dasha in Marketing). My aunt ended up ordering the 3-course brunch from the Dine Out menu and due to dietary restrictions I just ordered a sandwich and salad, which is a pretty sad birthday meal. My aunt was thinking of ordering the butternut squash soup, but the table next to us said it wasn't very good so she went with the broccoli soup instead. My sandwich/salad and her broccoli soup arrived at the same time. The soup was so thick, I could eat it with my fork. The server took her empty soup bowl and should have sent the next course to the kitchen but clearly did not. I found a piece of rope in my sandwich (see photo), and the server apologized and offered to bring me a new sandwich but I was hungry so I said it was ok. Good thing I didn't order a new sandwich because my aunt was sitting there for 30 minutes waiting for her eggs benny. I was done my sandwich and we asked the server where her entree was and he said 'oh the kitchen is plating it' but clearly he forgot because it took another 10 minutes for it to arrive. Although the server was not very observant during service, he did have a professional demeanor. He gave me a complimentary tiramisu cake and put a candle on it, which was sweet even though this did not feel like a bday celebration. He apologized again for our horrible experience. After sharing my experience with my followers on Instagram, the marketing manager contacted me to invite me back to try their Dine Out menu but there's only a few days left of Dine Out and since it's my birthday week I'm fully booked. read more

Stayed at the Azure Legacy Collection Hotel and ended up eating at Dahlia (right on the first floor) a few times -- and wow, what a find! The space isn't huge, but it's cozy, chic, and has such a great vibe. Good music, stylish décor, and an inviting atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Huge shoutout to Denys, who absolutely made my experience. He was warm, patient, and explained the menu so well. I went with the Broiled Sablefish (soy glaze, seasonal veggies), and it was perfection -- super high quality and amazing with a glass of white wine. I came back the next day because the service was just that good. I missed Happy Hour (3-6pm) but ordered the oysters at dinner anyway, and honestly? Some of the best local Vancouver oysters I've had. Fresh, clean, and full of flavor. Also tried the Spicy Seafood Linguine -- packed with big juicy prawns, scallops, and clams. Pure comfort and quality in one bowl. Denys' hospitality really stood out and made each visit feel special. My wife and I were staying at the Azur Hotel, and Dahlia was the restaurant connected to the lobby. We came here for dinner on our first night, and we were very impressed. All the food tasted delicious. The portions were large and I felt everything was good value. After eating 3-4 meals all day, we didn't have much appetite for dinner, but we still ordered 2 appetizers and 2 mains. We started with a beef tartare and a lamb meatball. My favorite was the beef tartare. It tasted very clean and fresh with chunks of avocados in the mix. The toasted bread was really good, and we finished all of it. The shrimp in the pasta were huge and had a nice char-grilled flavor. The BC Salmon was moist and flaky. No complaints at all. Very solid meal. read more

An absolutely amazing dining experience. We ordered a few things to taste and share, and each dish did not fail. Actually, only the squid ink pasta was mediocre, as it lacked depth and was a bit light on taste. I've had better at other establishments. Stayed at the Azur so I decided to check out the hotel restaurant for breakfast. It's a bit odd eating in the lobby of the hotel, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Good service. I got the chicken and waffles. I enjoyed the sweet glaze on the chicken. The outside was crispy and the meat was soft. A bit mushy, same with the waffle. Too soft for me, but I was still able to enjoy the meal overall. Got a vanilla iced latte which tasted like water unfortunately. Had to pour my syrup in it to save it. I would've given it four stars despite all that, but it was overpriced in my opinion. It is downtown however, so I guess that plays into the up charge. read more

We got a reservation a week before so we were seated as soon as we arrived. The place was pretty full for a Thursday evening but it wasn't too loud. We ordered: :: buttermilk fried chicken - came with pickle, mustard seeds, coriander, and was saucy. I loved it! It was very crispy but also saucy. We ordered one for a table of 7 and it was enough. Portion size was pretty good! :: French onion burger - a juicy burger served on a brioche bun with caramelized onions, dijon aioli, and a side of salted thick cut fries. The burger was pretty big but it was cut and presented well which made it easy to eat. The fries even though were thick-cut, were still crispy. :: Gnocchi with salmon - so creamy and the salmon was cooked to perfection. It melted in your mouth! They gave us complimentary chocolate cake to celebrate my friend's birthday which was super nice. The cake was decedent! It came with vanilla custard, orange white chocolate ganache. Loved it! Felt like such an awkward location being in the lobby like that, but didn't affect my experience. Service was great, and it was a surprisingly quiet and intimate restaurant given how exposed it seemed. Food was good, though I don't think it was anything special, if I'm being honest. We had their Dine Out Vancouver menu, which was a great deal. For $55 each, we tried their bone marrow and tuna Niçoise salad, mushroom truffle risotto and beef short rib bourguignon, and the tiramisu. Tuna and risotto was our favourite, but generally great quality all around. The short rib was maybe the least impressive - it wasn't quite as tender and flavourful as we expected. Otherwise, everything was on par with what we expected from here. I'm not sure I would come back, but it's a good meal, and if you're still around for Dine Out, definitely a value spot! read more

congrats to s on her recent engagement and ofc, we were overdue for a meet up anyway! dahlia was super nice to give us some free bubbly as a gift to our newly engaged girl - thanks again for the hospitality! the hostess was super friendly and nice when i got there early for my reso - she thought i was the engaged one but i said no, my friend was on her way. the decor of the lounge is super chic - it shouts french riveria vibes. our server was great as well - we def overstayed our welcome but no one was rushing us in any way. the cocktails were a bit lacking - they were great but the garnishes (ie. the martini's olive and the frozen grapes for the g&t) were missing. i actually liked my french75 way more and ofc the free sparkling rosé was very refreshing. we ordered a few dishes to share and everything was delish. we started off with baked brie - nice and gooey on top of the toasted baguette. the candied pecans and the apricot jam added a nice tang and crunch to the dish. for mains, we had the scallops on black angelhair and the 12oz ribeye steak frites. the scallops and shrimp were done to perfection, and i especially loved the garlic in the angelhair. the steak was medium rare - exactly what we asked for - and it was tender and juicy. the frites...were the frites! for the last little bit of munchies, we ordered the gruyère tater tots and profiteroles - yes ik a weird combination. the tater tots with gruyère cheese was awesome - you can't go wrong with taters. the profiteroles were best blend of fluffy choux pastry with icy, cold gelato. the pistachio provided a nutty note to the dessert. i do agree that the lounge area could be done better but i found it cozy when my girls went - don't change it imo. now to see when we'll try the brunch/happy hour read more

We came for happy hour on a Monday and were happy to find an almost empty restaurant. This restaurant is situated in the lobby of a hotel. It looks more bar focused as its so open to the lobby but I was surprised by the food We got the Dig it as the server said the drink was their take on the espresso martini. For me the drink was okay. The French onion burger came with fries and 2 dipping sauces (truffle aioli and ketchup). The fries were crispy and really good hot. The truffle aioli didnt have a lot of truffle flavour. The brioche bun of the French onion burger held onto the patty well. I wish it had a bit more of the caramelized onions. I feel like that got lost underneath everything The Dungeness crab cake was i think the most disappointing dish of the night. It wasn't super crispy. There were bits of crab but I couldn't really taste it. The sauce was really refreshing and helped with the greasiness. But I wouldn't order it again The beef tartare was another disappointing dish. I couldn't taste the beef in the beef tartare it was overshadowed by the shaved potato and shallots on top. Wouldn't order this again The foie Gras parfait was my favorite dish. The duck liver flavour was strong but it was well balanced by the stone fruit. Just a classic dish done well. The food was very mediocre, and the ambiance was not good with buses and ambulances zooming by due to the restaurant's proximity to a busy street and the patio being open. There were little fruit flies hovering over our food for the entire 2 hours. We ordered 4 items from the happy hour menu. The oysters had bits of shell in them, and we had to spit out the tiny shells from every oyster. I've never experienced this at any other restaurant in Vancouver. The truffle fries had no hint of truffle. The chicken coxinhas tasted like a mix of things that should not go together: a hard fried shell, mashed potato, and minced chicken. Here's an in-depth review. This relatively new restaurant is housed in the lobby of a boutique hotel and feels like it. Space: Though this fine dining restaurant is beautifully decorated, it sits right next to the main door of a hotel lobby. There are no walls dividing this dining experience from the lobby so it really feels like you're sitting in a lobby. There's a big window in front of a row of tables (on the ground floor) which might make diners sitting there feel like they're on display. The space (I counted) seems to fit ~40-50 people, including the bar, but feels much smaller. All this takes away from the experience. Food: We ordered the... 1. marinated olives 2. dahlia house bread 3. grilled octopus 4. salmon wellington 5. tuscan chicken 6. bread The food was all incredible, plating was lovely, great value, though the chicken was on the salty side. The $12 bread we ordered was absolutely stunning, infused with lovely Japanese flavours. However, a couple next to us told us that they took almost 2 hours to get their food - something to look out for possibly. Upon closer look, one of my setting plates was dirty. Drinks: We ordered the "Dig it" and I believe the "Dianto." The "dig it" is their version of an espresso cocktail with tequila. It was very strong and lacked the coffee taste. The glass they served it in was barely half the size of the standard martini glass. For $22, I wouldn't order it again. For the prices they charge, the bar does not seem to live up to its nearby competitors. Service: Service was uninspiring and abysmal. As we arrived (with reservation), we still waited a good 15 minutes before being seated, though we saw empty tables around. I also observed during my experience that the staff asked many surrounding tables to finish their meals at the bar. Thankfully, this didn't happen to me. 2 cents: I am no stranger to Vancouver's fine dining scene and I just don't think this place quite hits the mark. The food was stellar, HUGE compliments to the chef. However, many other elements will need fine tuning. If you're interested in dining here, the food is great, but I would skip the drinks. I would say this place is okay, the food was presented nicely, but didn't live up to my expectation. The presentation was lovely, unfortunately the execution was not the greatest. The froi gras mouse had been frozen and must have microwaved, it was melting on the outside and still had ice crystals in the center. Our main entree the roasted chicken was over done, but the sauce and veggies were great. The Salmon Wellington had a great bleur Blanc sauce, but was pretty tasteless, I kept searching for the sauce, an again the sides were great. The dessert looked incredible, but when you took a bite, the lemon was overpowering and oh yes tart. The crist on the tart was not cooked through and had raw dough taste. The Panna Cotta also had a strong glaze on top that did not balance well with the creamy custards below. Staff was very friendly, but not that attentive.. I felt our waiter was paying more attention to a table that would provide a larger tip. I wanted a second glass of wine and while I picked up the near empty glass and finished it off in front him, he turned to leave I had to stop him and ask for another glass. But when we got there at 7:30pm, there was no one here to greet us. and we wait for about 10 minutes, we had to ask the hotel concierge to call someone for us. After we look at the menu, we felt we've been lied to because the menu is NOTHING LIKE FRENCH AT ALL. It's more like a White spot or something but with A FANCY PRICE. Then the server came and he told us that the restaurant close at 9pm and we had to leave by that time. It was ALMOST 8:00PM when he told us. We've order some FOOD which was NOT up to standard for FINE DINNING restaurant. The server show us the restaurant on the roof and said we can go up there and spend more money after they closed at 9. That was RIDICULOUS!! We were here to enjoy BUT instead we felt being RIP OFF and were kick out of the restaurant!! We've dinning in many fine dining restaurants in Vancouver and all over the world, I've never had this kind of experience EVER in my life. We've just had our dinner at Riley's Fish & Steak the night before and my wife got a big piece of nice cake for her birthday for FREE; and we didn't even get a word of HAPPY BIRTHDAY from the MOUTH of your GREAT STAFFS!! It was surprising that this gem of a restaurant was not as busy as we expected - but we were early diners.
