A very happening rooftop patio where a lot of business lunches seem to be happening. Have a DJ and a very dark elevator to get to the roof. Food is of a good portion and in line with what you would expect from the glowbal group-- it's decent, but not mindblowing. Service was pretty good. Happy hour menu no longer has the truffle fries like online.

We ordered the following Happy Hour items: Steak House Nachos: House spiced potato chips, bacon, cheddar, jalapeño, habanero crema, steak chili Quattro Formaggio flatbread: Pesto, Fior di latte, goat cheese, brie, fontina, pinenuts Phyllo Prawns Kataifi wrapped prawns, watercress cream What a great meal the 2 of us enjoyed. It was more than enough food. In fact, we only ate 2 slices of the flatbread and took the rest back to our Airbnb. We asked for a bag and they gave us a really cute sturdy cloth bag. The ambience is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend coming here, especially, during happy hour!

The ambience of this place is absolute freaking marvellous. The server was absolutely lovely with great energy and vibe. Food was delicious exactly what you want from a steak restaurant. It's cute and somewhat cozy depending where you are seated. If you are going on a date and want to impress, this would be THE spot!!!!

Wonderful brunch experience. The food was fantastic--the B+B benny was exceptional and perfectly cooked. It was a perfect poached egg. Service was fantastic--attentive and friendly. Marco is the best. Really reasonable prices. A real hidden gem brunch.

I have been to Black + Blue and The Roof many times. Its design and decor are very classy and modern with a slight great gatsby vintage influence. We were here at The Roof for Happy Hour recently and it was great. Drinks and food were all delicious. We didn't have a reservation but were lucky and able to get a table, so I recommend making a reso before, if you can.

It's our first time here and we came here for the dine out vancouver festival . Lydia , our server was very nice and warm , the food was excellent . And also the manager who went from table to table to welcome and check on their guests . The Roof is the Black and Blue casual dining but we felf like it was a fine dining . Overall an excellent dining experience

We came for happy hour to the roof on a Thursday. Most of the tables were full but we were able to get a spot. I always love the view up at the Roof because you can see the Fairmont from there. We ordered the Wagyu beef carpaccio, the ahi tuna tartare and the oysters. For cocktails we got the sangria and Prosecco. The Wagyu beef carpaccio was lacking in beef flavour. It was cut a little too thin for me to pick up (just a snag). The tuna tartare was not bad. Very fresh tasting and I liked the addition of the pineapple. The chip went perfectly with the tuna tartare. The oysters were pretty standard. The sangria was delicious as usual. Overall for happy hour they have a pretty big menu compared to other restaurants. They have a wide variety and the portions are pretty big. The service was super friendly and helpful when it comes to making decisions on the menu. This is the place to be if you are looking for a snack and drinks with friends and a nice location but not for food

Stopped by for brunch with some friends on Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by friendly faces and took the elevator up to The Roof. Unfortunately, the weather was gloomy and drizzly, so we didn't get to experience the patio without the roof, but it was decorated beautifully nonetheless! Our highlight was the calamari - it was cooked and fried so perfectly. The bites were soft all the way through, no rubbery texture at all. The flatbread was also decadent, but I did kind of wish it had some kind of hot honey drizzle, however that is my personal preference. The mussels were also delicious with its slightly spicy kick, and the bread it was served with was perfectly crisp, while light on the inside. Surprisingly, the beet salad was the most underwhelming of the appetizers. I didn't have the oysters myself, but my friends seemingly enjoyed them. My main was the Ahi Tuna, as pictured. The serving size was generous, however I would say it was a bit underseasoned for my liking. Perhaps because the cut is quite thick, it would benefit from a bit more in seasoning to ensure each bite feels catered to. I tried to have it with the drizzled sauce, but it was not *quite* enough. We also had a bottle of Riesling at the table. Our server was really kind and attentive, and stopped by periodically to ensure our glasses were filled. My friends had the Negroni and Passionfruit Margarita, which they both quite enjoyed, but will set you back ~$18-19/drink as fine dining does. They're also quite stiff at 2-2.5oz/drink! I would definitely like to come back and check out their Happy Hour in the future.

My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and brought me here. He said dress fancy and I'll blindly lead you to dinner. He had me put Burrard street on the GPS and when we walked in, he turned to the ladies behind the desk and said "the reservation at 8 for the roof please." They pointed to take the elevator and we walked in. I walked in confused and taking everything in. Then the hostess sat us down and introduced us to our waitress, Rachel. She was lovely and recommended some really amazing things! For our meat we had rib eye, Mac and cheese stick and more!! It was delicious! I was surprised at how well marinated the meat was!! Also let's not forget the drinks!!! If you live for alcohol, then I'd highly recommend it!!! It's a good compliment to the meal!! Also had the butter cake and chocolate ecstasy for dessert!!! I'm in love!!! Thank you Black and blue!! Also thank you to Rachel! We love this place!!!

It's been a while I've been to the Rood for dinner. (I honestly prefer their happy hr) - side note, it's cheaper to get the fried Mac & cheese sticks from the regular menu vs the HH menu. Also the HH food downstairs was better than the food we got at the Roof. Tuna tartare was good, but the potatoes seemed a little stale so we asked for another batch which was much crispier. The mussels weren't good at all. Fishy. They said maybe it was due to the sauce and where the mussels were from, but we could not eat it so we had to send it back and they were very understanding. Steak, ribeye, ordered med rare ish but was very chewy. I know we are supposed to order ribeyes mor medium to render the fat, but still thought it was pretty chewy. Flatbread was nice and had a bit of a kick to it. Shoutout to our server though, I wish I remembered her name, for being super understanding.

Excellent rooftop very busy place. If you would like a quieter dinning experience I would recommend to sit inside , low light setting and cozy environment. Excellent choices of beef cuts!!!

Note that I'm NOT a steak person at ALL but this place was perhaps the best steak that I've ever had so I had to get it. They are apparently ranked the 24th best steakhouse worldwide! My strip sirloin was PERFECT - never had a steak whose outside was done so perfectly - seared crispy with lots of flavour on the skin, almost crunchy, while the inside was moist and tender. Not chewy, not solid. Just so good. I actually liked it better than the piece of ribeye I tried, which I thought was a bit more stringy. The tartare appetizers we got were just superb as well. The beef and bison tartare were both unique, smooth and done well. I liked the bison as it has a bit more kick to it. I found the tuna tartare with avocado my favourite overall but I really really like the compote that came with the hamachi. The sides - especially the mushroom risotto - were all really really good too. Flavour with risotto was out of this world. The puréed potatoes were so smooth. The salad was only ok though. I also didn't care for the baked Alaska dessert but I tasted the creme beulee which was really good. This place is definitely reserved for special occasions and very pricey but the steaks are out of this world good and overall everything was excellent.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.

There was also a bar near the entrance that added a touch of elegance. It was thoughtfully located, perfect if you want to start with a cocktail while you wait to be seated. Now let's get to the real reason why you're reading this review- the food. After reading reviews we decided to go with the infamous cheese bread that everyone praised. It was DELICIOUS! That was some really good cheese bread. Now, on to the main entree's: my boyfriend settled for the 22oz porterhouse steak medium rare (drooling), while I humbly ordered the steak & lobster; best of land and sea as described on their menu. Their Canadian Prime Filet Mignon served with a broiled Atlantic lobster tail and lemon butter!!! My boyfriends porterhouse was made to perfection he paired It with classic French fries. My steak was made well but lacked a little flavor. I like my steak medium rare however, my steak was a tad bit over cooked. My lobster was good but I've definitely had better. The butter was a nice touch as it should and honestly speaking It lacked salt, food with out a hint of salt is just bland. My entree came with mashed potatoes, they were fluffy and tasty. Two thumbFor dessert.

There are…read morea lot of new and trendy steak restaurants in Vancouver, but Hy's is one of the longstanding giants. They have been around for a very long time, and I think their prestige is quite hard to match. It's not a trendy restaurant but rather, more of a sophisticated traditional setting. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday, and since it was his first time trying Hy's, we had to go down the route of ordering all the classics. Our server, Dan, was phenomenal. He was funny and candid throughout the meal and did a great job preparing the tableside Caesar salad and beef tartare. Both dishes contained similar ingredients but tasted unique on their own. The way the ingredients interact brings various sweet, salty, and tart flavour profiles that dance together splendidly in your mouth. Since all the ingredients are eyeballed, no two dishes taste the same, and there is beauty in that, as you get something authentically different every single time. Cheese bread was a must - an absolute classic. Soft, delicious, and cheesy every single time. For mains, we decided to share the porterhouse. Being a small eater when it comes to steaks, I figured 22oz was going to be enough paired with mash and a side of candied carrots. The steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. My boyfriend does not enjoy vegetables, but surprisingly liked the carrots. The service was extremely smooth, with food arriving quite quickly and regular check-ins from Dan. For dessert, we opted for the Belgian chocolate bourbon cake. It was rich, decadent and quite sweet. We took our time with the dessert as my boyfriend dusted off his second drink and designated me as the driver for the night. Overall, it was a seamless experience, but most importantly, it managed to satisfy my meat snob boyfriend on his birthday. Hy's did a great job taking care of us, and although I do not live in the tax bracket that allows me to come here regularly, it makes a wonderful treat every once in a while.
