The Daily Table astounds me. They truly make healthy food accessible. It's become the first place where I stop for groceries. I understand it's not necessarily going to be the ONLY place I go for groceries, but it's where I buy most of my produce, canned goods and cheese for sandwiches. The prices! OMG, the prices! I cannot get over them which is why I try to see if the Daily Table has my grocery items before venturing to other stores. I love the nonprofit concept of the Daily Table, how they source their food and how they give discounts to people in need. I think people with SNAP/LINK cards get 50% off produce (up to a certain amount) and they give away breakfast and lunch to children and teens. The store has always been very clean and the employees are nice. I've only seen the store kinda busy ONCE and that was when they were GIVING away produce around Thanksgiving. I was going there for my regular shopping and was delighted when someone gave me a reusable shopping bag and said any produce I could fit in that bag would be free! I guess that I would caution people about how the Daily Table works before stumbling in and expecting a store like Stop & Shop or some other market. They're just not going to have as many options. For example, I only expect one kind of everything and I never look for junk food. Furthermore, they sometimes have items for a short amount of time depending on what they have access to. There was an instant coffee that they used to sell in a jar, then they sold it in individual serving packets, and now it's gone entirely. They have canned cold brew coffee instead. So, it varies and I look forward to trying new items. read more

Absolutely love this location! Located right on the 23 (so close to the red line) this is a great addition to an area that needs a grocery store with healthy food options! They have a wonderful prepared foods section with nothing over $5. I love the chicken Caesar wrap and the Brussels sprouts especially. Everything is made in house so it tastes completely fresh. I've gotten tons of produce here, chips, some pantry staples, and even Cape Cod Pizza. The prices are unbeatable and the quality is great. Plus whatever produce goes bad they compost which is amazing. The staff are super friendly and can help if you have any questions. I know they also offer healthy cooking classes which is a great addition to the community. Fantastic idea from the former Trader Joe's president. I had the pleasure of hearing from Doug when he visited my school. Every time I come, I am still impressed by all of the healthy foods being saved from landfills and feeding the community at affordable prices. People have the ability to choose which foods they want. I don't live in the neighborhood, but I drop by when I'm around and have even made the trip just to shop. Personally, I don't agree that it is bad for the store to allow non-Dorchester residents to shop. There is such an incredible amount of food wasted in the US that there is enough for anyone who wants to shop there, and limiting the population would create a stigma around the store. Selection is good for produce and staples, but not specifics. It's always a surprise which new items the store has in stock. The prepared foods are very convenient, especially love the vegan smoothies! Friendly staff and unbelievably low prices. It is possible to find a few organic items here! Some produce like avocados you'll have to eat fairly quickly, but most of the produce seems to be pretty fresh. read more

This place is amazing. Good value for most things, as it's a food rescue and gets various foods and produce donated from a lot of companies/organizations. My housemates really utilize the prepared foods, which are $1.50~3 for soups, curries and rice, etc. I tend to go for the produce and frozen goods, and sometimes the dry goods if they're what I need (For example, I wanted macaroni again for pasta salad, but they only had spaghetti that week). Bread is usually quality stuff like Rudi's or Nashoba Brook and for about a fourth or a third of their usual retail prices. Sometimes some real gems like garlic scapes for 99 cents/lb, or fancy yogurts like Oh My Yog 4 for a dollar. Staff are really helpful and will go take a look in the back to see if there's a new shipment if you're looking for something that's not out. Here's a sample of one of my trips last week: $18.74 total: A case of 12 cups of Oh My Yog blueberry yogurt $3 (that's 25 cents each!) I have been a faithful shopper here for 3+ years; as a result my grocery bills and low, my diet is varied, and happier still because it's right around the corner from me here in Dorchester. The 5 stars isn't because it's always 100% perfect, sometimes you do have to be choosy about which produce you purchase and sometimes the soup doesn't always hit for me (although I do love their homemade soups in general -- such a deal!) but it's 5 star for the service they provide, their dedication to the community, and for keeping me well fed at low cost for years on end! Also an unexpected bonus was my last trip there included an unexpectedly super nice cashier who helped me carry my bags out to my car on that sunny spring day. read more

You can find so many special organic items at very very reduced prices. There are a little bit items that are priced at the standard grocery store chain prices, but overall their prices are much cheaper than if you went somewhere else. However, keep in mind that Daily Table is tiny in comparison to other grocery stores so if you're looking for a particular pantry item, you might not be able to find it, but they do have all the basics (cereal, PB, milk, cheese, yogurt, some veggies and fruits, chips, pasta, etc). They do have some prepared meals as well so if you're looking for a salad, BBchicken with rice and veggies, curries, or milkshakes you can buy some here as well. read more

I'm fairly impressed at this store. It's taken food that would otherwise go to waste and selling it at below-cheap prices. A big bonus is that they also make prepared meals and sandwiches so people who can't or won't cook can take things home. Great place. Only drawback is somethings appear to be from places with less than ethical labeling practices, like tuna from China. The idea of this establishment has been kicked around for a few years now & I was quite excited to see it become reality. My weekly volunteering gig leads me to serve families & individuals at a local food pantry. So to see a place to open that offers fresh food for low process makes me hopeful that more people will have access. Many people think that they sell expired or rotten food but that is not the case. The food here is donated by many sources & the prepared meals are made fresh with fresh ingredients. The space is very bright, open & clean with small shopping carts & baskets available. I headed over to the prepared food section & was surprised to see everything from baked fish to brisket. Small side dishes cover then spectrum from black bean salad to buttered brussel sprouts. It was nice to see fresh produce & uncooked pasta available for incredible prices. A wall is filled with canned goods from tuna to beans. Beyond the value priced food there is a window into a large kitchen were the prepared food is made & people are taught how to cook in a healthy manner. This alone is an incredible idea to educate people on how to eat better & pass that on to their families. I hope this place does well & start the conversation about how food is distributed, consumed & valued in our culture. Daily table has all of this and more. These guys are a nonprofit grocery store that work with growers, supermarkets, and manufacturers to purchase excess, healthy food to keep prices low. They always have $.99 hummus, prepared foods that range from $1-$4 and tons of cheap produce (bananas are $.29 per pound!). I once got a huge box of healthy granola bites for 50 cents! This place is clean, bright, and accessible. You have to do your weekly grocery shopping here. One caveat: To keep prices low, some of the food may expire quickly. This is a super small grocery store but I love the concept. First heard of this place in an article and I love the fact that it is in a neighborhood that would benefit the most from it. They have a great pre-made food selection with items ranging from $2-$3. There's curry dishes, a good variety of homemade soups and frozen foods. I love that they have a huge tube of Cedars hummus that goes for like $5 at the supermarkets for $1.99 here. They also have fresh produce for really great prices. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood and although far from me, is a great concept. Be sure to check it out and support it. Your dollar will go father. I'm glad to have this in our community it's a really nice idea... But if I'm being honest I prefer whole foods,lambert's and trader joe's. I like the flowers they have there you have to pick a nice batch because most of them will be wilted. I'm not a fan of their smoothies there just not my cup of tea but I do like the chewy energy bars as a healthy alternative after the workout.it has so much potential and I think I saw almond milk there so next time I'll buy one. I had bought some type of pizza and fish from there of which I wasn't a fan but I have hope! You're going to have to pick through some veggies that are uglier than what you're used to seeing at the supermarket, and cook most of everything sooner than later, but whatevs. This weekend, for FIFTY DOLLARS, I got: Niman Ranch pork ribs, 2.5 lbs pork loin, 2 dozen organic eggs, 4 organic cucumbers, a package of organic celery, 4 packages of pre-washed organic greens, mushrooms, goat milk, goat milk kefir, collard greens, tomatoes, oranges, pears, 4 bottles of organic kombucha, pre-made roast sweet potatoes, plantains, 4 Haas avocados, bananas, yellow peppers, spelt English muffins, 2 bottles of seltzer water and some fancy fruit vinegar. read more

The mission of the Daily Table is to reduce food waste by using that food and preparing meals that are more nutritious than fast food but just as fast to get. The Daily Table hits that nail on the head and it's a great addition to the neighborhood. I've been about 10+ times and there is always a few entrees to choose from that might include a starch, protein and side of vegetables(sometimes). There are also affordable soups, sides, smoothies, cheeses and salads and they are constantly being made throughout the day. The fruit and vegetables that are around do have a shorter shelf life but they are priced accordingly. These prepared foods are usually sold under or between $.59-$2.00 which is great. The neighborhood is given a source of healthy food at an affordable price. I've made an effort to stop ordering food and replace them from meals prepared here and most the foods were great. Today, I had the kale flatbread and was quite surprised by how good it was and how I haven't purchased it sooner. The beef stew and the chicken and vegetable soup were really good and the broth had some spice to it as well as the taste of vegetables. The Korean BBQ sauce dishes have been great and there have been a few times where I have been able to try the brisket. The selection is small but the rotation of meals helps to keep the place fresh. The people there seek to help you find what you are looking for and they all seem to care for the community because I believe they are from the community. I hope that the not for profit market stays because I can easily see this being a key place in the community. My one suggestion for the Daily Table, is to update either their Facebook or Instagram account to give an idea of what is available for the day to keep people informed before heading in for the day. read more

The curried green beans were fresh and delicious, as was the chicken soup except for the huge pieces of celery--the soup was very flavorful, so I would bet that their chicken broth is delicious and a good buy. The bananas were ripe and just 29 cents a pound, but this meant that they needed to be consumed in 1-2 days before becoming overripe. The cucumber I purchased didn't even hold up for 24 hours in a bag in my refrigerator before both ends started dehydrating/shriveling, so best to purchase perishables you will consume or use up right away. I've heard that the frozen fish is a great deal--currently pollack, a local fish that's white and mild, is available. read more

I went here after reading a National Geographic article that featured this store. It is a bit out of the way for me, but I'm glad I went. Don't expect to fulfill all of your shopping needs here, but there is a decent selection of mostly healthy food at very reasonable prices. I just finished a turkey and Swiss on a rustic loaf bread. yum! it was a few sliced of deli turkey, a slice of swiss cheese, a leaf of lettuce, , two slices of cucumber and some tasty spicy brown mustard. I also had a "garden" salad. Meh. .99 cents. small plastic container with iceberg lettuce sliced cucumber onion slices that were chopped much to "chunky" for a salad, a sprinkle of parm, and some raspberry vinaigrette. crappy, but hey .99 cents! can't do your regular shopping here, but everything they have is wholesome and inexpensive. stopping in on a regular basis is an absolute money SAVER! I wish Yelp had half stars because Daily Table would get a 3.5, but they don't and I wasn't enthused enough to give them a 4. I went here yesterday to see what it was like. I was in the area visiting dear old mom and I figured why not. The store is very neat and clean, which is always a good thing. I browsed the prepared food section and ended up grabbing sweet & sour fish soup and curry chicken stew. I haven't tasted them yet, so I cannot give an opinion on that. Other things I grabbed include Korean BBQ sauce, frozen okra, a few potatoes, Asian slaw and a 5 lb vat of tabouleh that I am going to try so hard to finish before it goes bad. The selection was limited, which I expected, but I almost felt like I could have skipped the visit and it would not have made a difference at all. which is clearly not a good thing. I had some of the cereal last night and it tasted like a cross between cardboard and metal.
