Everyone needs a DQ date every now and then! My friend and I went to DQ to try their new fall menu, and I could have eaten 5 blizzards because they were just that good hahah. My friend got the new Reese's flavor, and I got the new Oreo flavor. Both were amazing. I got the mini size and thought it was perfect.. just enough. We sat inside, and it was very clean. We even saw employees cleaning the table right after someone left, which I appreciate that they took initiative to clean. We placed our order, and our blizzards came right up... no wait even though there was a line in the drive thru. Only been here for a rare occasion such as grabbing blizzards in the drive through or recently grabbing treatza pizzas for birthday cakes. The reviews are so bad here, so I thought I'd share my positive experience. My now 12 y/o is super picky about all food. We hit up a DQ out of state for blizzards, and she saw a pick of the brownie treatza pizza and commented that she had tried them before and loved them. So, boom, I decided that would be her birthday cake. I ordered through the app on our drive back home. Decided to order the Heath one too as my husband and daughter share the same birthday. Besides, they're only $9.99 each! Super easy to use the app; however, it wouldn't let me choose a pick up time. I didn't need it till the next day, so I called DQ once we got home. The manager was super helpful and told me she'd get in touch with the manager for the next day shift to have them ready. So next day, I get a call from another helpful manager. She found my order info and decided they'd whip up a fresh couple of treatza pizzas for us that they'd have ready in 45 minutes. She also advised me to order directly through the store (instead of the app) next time, so they could again make sure it was fresh for us. The cakes were ready exactly when she said they'd be, and let me tell you, they were delicious! My family of 4 plus my brother and the grandparents all gobbled it up. Seriously, by the end of the day, there were no crumbs left on the pans. So, long story short, as for desserts at this DQ, I give 5 stars for sure. Haven't tried DQ's food food in literally over a decade as all I remember is the greasiest chicken sandwich ever. I'd imagine it's gotten better now, so perhaps I'll branch out on my orders. Update: I called DQ and spoke with a manager who was apologetic and told me I could come swap out the cake with a new one. I got the new one today, cut it open and it has everything its supposed to! I only go to DQ for the ice cream cake. Any special occasion that deserves a cake, I cant resist a DQ ice cream cake. Last time I got one, I got home only to find that the entire vanilla layer was freezer burnt. No big deal, I just took all the vanilla off and we happily ate the chocolate layer with crunchies. Today I decided to go back for another, figuring they probably dont mess up cakes too often so it should be fine. Big mistake. I got the cake, bring it home to serve it and it has NO CRUNCHIES!!! The only reason I wanted the cake anyway! Between the 2 cakes that is $60 wasted. I am completely disappointed and honestly I am mad about it. Great location. Went here for a yelp tasting event. The crew at DQ are amazing. Being from the Midwest, I grew up with DQ. It is nice that I can still enjoy a dilly bar or blizzard in BR. Love the new baked desserts. My favorite was the apple pie. Warm apple pie and ice cream is such a classic. Enjoyed all of the sandwiches, with the chicken bacon ranch being my favorite. I really liked the Buffalo chicken snack wrap. So much cheesy goodnesses with a slight Buffalo kick. I did not care for the BBQ wrap, too sweet for me. The quesadilla was average. I have always been a huge fan of Dairy Queen's blizzards! They're so creative with their flavors, but for a while now I had my eye on this cotton candy dipped cone I had seen advertised and it finally came to the Dairy Queen here in Baton Rouge! Firstly, what a beautiful visual. Then there was the taste. Perfectly sweet cotton candy coating that blended well with vanilla soft serve. I love the dipped cones too, because the coating stops the soft serve from melting all over you. This location was so busy the night we went but they did an excellent job. The drive thru line was moving super fast and everyone working here was so happy and friendly! For my fam, this is our go-to late night sweet treat. Much prefer DQ to marble slab or coldstone creamery. read more

Since my last review, I got a gift card at X-mas for Dairy Queen and I have been here a few more times, and I must say I am deeply disappointed in how this restaurant is run now vs when I was there before. I want to like this place so much, yet it continues to fail as a good place to have an enjoyable dining experience. To my wife's disapproval, I prefer eating in a dining room of a restaurant, rather than gong through the drive through. I want to experience the ambience and experience of the restaurant while consuming their food. The half dozen times I have been here since my last review, I think 5 of the 6 times were not good experiences. The food ordering is quick and people are nice, but that's where it stops. This felt more like the infamous Bad Service at Denny's in Annapolis, MD experience than it did a Dairy Queen experience. More than once I sat for 20 to 30 minutes waiting for my sandwich and had to go up and remind them. Only to have to go back again when I ordered ice cream. One of those times there was another family who waited longer and demanded their money back and management was not present, and the staff didn't try to remedy the situation. Other patrons were just walking out. It was bad. Each time I have gone through the drive through, despite the long lines, it moves pretty quickly. I have gone there at 15 minutes before close with a dozen cars in line and I'm through there in 5 minutes. Drive Thru - Yay! Dining Room - Nay! I would strongly suggest that you avoid the dining room at all costs. I hope the management or franchise owners read this review and do something to improve the service there. There are other options for ice cream on the same stretch of road that are better than forcing yourself to go here. read more

I ordered the chicken strip $5 lunch with a caramel sundae. The food was good, but these 3 strips were barely bigger than chicken nuggets. Disappointing. They have good fries when they are hot, and make a good sweet tea. I like to save my sundae for later, but since my strips were the size of nuggets (and I didn't look until I was back at the office), I ended up eating it with my lunch. Besides Central this is the only dq really in baton rouge, so you don't have much of a choice. I've been here 3 times and never had a bad experience. This place is woefully mismanaged. I came yesterday afternoon and it was like a playground for the employees. Half were on break, taking up seating in the already cramped dining room (I guess they were on break) and the other half were cavorting with the breakers. We waited forever to get our food and no one smiled or was nice to us other than the really weird lady that told us she eats there every day and is allergic to chocolate. I got the #2, which was a flame burger or something. It was actually really tasty. Jalepeno mayo on a burger with pepper jack cheese and bacon. I read the review below about how the place is cramped but it's really not. I'm sure it was on it's grand opening but I've been there a few times now (my office is right next door) and it's pretty standard for a fast food place. The food here is good but nothing too special. It's a nice change from the usual Wendy's or McDonalds and their blizzards are good. Overall I would recommend it for a lunch if you want something a little different but it's on par with Jack n' a box and Burger King. I went through the drive-through as the dinner rush was just starting and they had a girl who apparently was training at the window but nobody to help her train until I had an issue and she could not even begin to understand how to solve it so when her boss I'm guessing the manager who was on at the time came to the window she obviously didn't know what was going on either because she couldn't do her job right so they have people training people who aren't trained. I mean the manager took my order and wasn't speaking clearly through the headset so apparently my order was half missing because they didn't have it but that wasn't communicated clearly because like I said the manager had no idea what she was doing yet was training a new girl from across the store somehow. my order was simple it was cheese curds pretzel sticks a soft served and I had for Sunday extra hot fudge Hartford Sunday had less than the normal amount of for Jeanette the soft served was half melted when I got it they didn't have cheese curd so they just put fries in the bags and I had no idea and when I asked him about it she gave me attitude acting like it's my fault because she didn't do her job right I would never go back to the store again in my life if I was any of you cause I will never be there.it was terrible. I can't speak for everyone in Baton Rouge, but I have been anticipating this DQ location opening for a while. There's another location north of the city, but...have never wanted their food THAT bad. Today was the grand opening, and from the moment I pulled into the parking lot I could tell it was going to be an interesting visit. Fist of all, they had an enormous trailer that was playing music blocking the one-way loop around the front of the building, so for those who came in from the side street, this was an added inconvenience. We went back out onto the main road just to turn around so we could go in from there. As soon as we pulled in, we were stopped by not one, but TWO people 'directing' traffic. Yes, the parking lot was small, and part of it blocked off, but there was no need for the added roadblocks. The guy in the back, an older gentlemen, probably should not have been assigned that task. He rushed me all the way to the back of the parking lot, despite me pointing to an open spot near the door. Not sure why I was brought all the way back there, but...a spot is a spot is a spot. There was a line at the counter, but no one seemed agitated by it. Once we made it up to the counter, we saw the organized chaos that was ensuing behind the counter. Sometimes it seems as if some places operate more efficiently with less staff. Take Five Guys for example...everyone has a task, and they stay at it. Granted, it was only opening day, but it seemed as if a lot of the employees didn't know what was going on - neither did the patrons. Long story short, it just seems like the layout of that location wasn't thought out too well. Its very cramped. That said, the burger was good, the fries better. read more

I'm SO happy to have DQ in town!! I'm a sucker for those steak fingers and a mini blizzard but now I don't have to drive to Central for a fix. This location is always clean when I go and the employees have always been nice. I know you'll have to wait a little longer at DQ than say McD's or Burger King but this is the definition of "worth the wait". The location can be a little hairy to get in and out of depending on what time of day you try to go but those beautiful blizzards will make it up to you! I use to frequent it quite a bit, until they changed.They have a somewhat good 5.00 meal which includes meal, drink and dessert.The last few times I went, I had to all but call the manager to get my dessert. The service stinks. Then the straw that broke the camels back was when they took the signs off the bathroom, so now the girls can go in the boys bathroom if they want to and visa versa, because they can't figure out if they are guys or girls. This was the worst DQ experience I had ever had. The guy that took my daughter's order had NO idea of what he was doing. The girl that took my order and my mom's order never smiled or anything. When we got the food, they never brought our drink cups, my mom's and my daughter's burgers were raw on the inside and mine was burnt. They forgot the extra pickles that my mom and daughter paid for, they didn't put the cheese on my burger as instructed, they brought out my daughter's sundae too early and never brought her a spoon, I had to go get my dessert as well as my drink. I went the other night to get diner at 11:05pm, because I work nights. It was closed which is fine, except the 10 employees there that didn't acknowledge me when I drove to the window to see if they were still open.... they knew I was there and blatantly ignored me. Looked at me as I'm mouthing "are y'all open?" and carried on with their conversation.... they had been closed for 5 minutes. How hard is it to utter 4 words.... "sorry, we are closed." ?????? I tend to only go here when I have a sweet tooth because most Baton Rouge fast food chains dont have an extensive dessert menu. Their $5 lunch deal is really a steal and comes in handy. Although I am a big fan of the desserts, the burgers don't do much for me. Their chicken tenders are ok especially with the white gravy for dipping. In 30 yrs of frequenting Dairy Queen, this was without a doubt the worst experience I have ever had. Highly unprofessional staff that was borderline illiterate and was lounging in the order area ignoring customers while laughing and treating their job like a joke(common theme with dq with the type they hire these days). The blizzard I received looked like it was scooped out of a sewer. I would have gone back and complained, but there were two other customers complaining ahead of me. Not sure who I was more worried about, the shady individuals in the parking lot or the animals behind the counter that looked like the just got paroled. Who ever hired this troop of losers should be brought to the attention of corporate( but apparently they don't s^%$). Absolute waste of time and money....seems to be a common theme these days in DQ.
