I love the Cotton Candy blizzard flavor, and I only realized two years ago that it's a summer special. Most Dairy Queens are a longer drive away from Chapel Hill, but I was driving into Cary for some shopping, so the location of this storefront was perfect for my visit to town. The service was SO swift! I was shocked! I was immediately greeted very politely on the drive-thru intercom upon pulling up. It's been a while since I've been to dairy Queen, I guess I forgot how terrible their food is! I got some queso cheeseburger meal which came with a burger, fries, drink and a sundae for $7. The burger was basically inedible, had some weird cheese whiz like sauce on it, and bacon that was literally hard as a rock! Plus the burger had zero flavor. When I got there, I was greeted by the manager (Brian W.). He was very friendly and willing to help in any way he could. I have been coming to this location for over 20+ years. DQ is known for its original blizzards and sadly for the past few times I visited I could say that's not true anymore. It's super watery almost like a milkshake than blizzard. I don't know if it's due to bad training of the employees or the machine is outdated but hopefully this could get fixed soon. We mostly do the drive-thru although pre-covid my kids have enjoyed sitting inside to get a frozen treat. There's no going wrong in ordering the calorie loaded Blizzard. We try a new flavor release as many as 4 times a year and haven't been disappointed yet. The cheese burger was good, well done and the kids enjoyed fries with it. Out and out treat-meal. Generally the wait lines on drive-thru aren't long and food generally feels fresh over other fast food burger chains. Some unique blizzard offerings have included movie themed ones, girl a pint thin mint (this one was a winner!), Wonder Woman, etc. They even have outdoor patio seating! read more

Ahh, soft serve. The red-headed step-child in the frozen dessert segment. Often forgotten, maligned and misunderstood, soft-serve ice cream can be more than that sad dessert you're stuck with at the end of a meal. Thankfully, Dairy Queen understands that since that's pretty much all they do for dessert! For some odd reason, I've been craving soft-serve and Dairy Queen does a great version. I stopped in after dinner down the street, scanned the menu and was sort of confused. I've probably been at DQ twice in the last 15 years and the pressure of ordering at the drive-thru lay heavy on my shoulders. Uh, cone? Too messy. Uh, sundae? Nope, can't eat it while driving. AHA! Peanut buster parfait! An old time favorite it is. I pay my $4 and change at the window and start heading over to I-440. The peanut buster parfait looks great, a large twirl of ice cream on top littered with red skinned peanuts and layered with chocolate sauce. The first bite validates my excitement, whoa good! Salty, crisp peanuts against dense, smooth ice cream and a shot of sugar and chocolate to balance it all out. DQ uses roasted red-skin peanuts which are great. Several bites later I'm on the highway and heading north for home, the parfait is disappearing quickly. But after that heavy dinner, I should pass on finishing this bad-boy so just one last bite... The parfait is melting and as I take that last bite, I taste something stringy. Uhm, make that hairy, ugh. I pull a long 8" fine hair out of my mouth (must've been a blonde) and well, that's it for dessert. I've written over 600+ reviews and this is the first one that chronicles a foreign object, sigh. The ice creams were good but the burger lacked any flavor - it looked like the patty was over-processed...didn't finish it. The place appeared clean but dated. The walls are dark orange, almost brown that are scratched, scraped, and dirty. They definitely need to repaint the walls. We were charged for four large dip cones and when my husband said that we were overcharged she said that's how much they are. Once upon a time, before cold stone, marble slab, baskin robbins, gelato, yogurt, italian ice, or custard, i think there was Dairy Queen. Rural Americana. Everyone knows what to expect from a Dairy Queen and the kind of food to expect here. I confess to not being a foodie for Dairy Queen -- I stick with the unhealthy but oh-so-fulfilling malts and blizzards and dipped cones. As incredible as the DQ blizzards are (hawaiian blizzards = 4 stars), their banana splits have always been a special treat. There's something about strawberries, pineapple, and chocolate toppings as a set off for the banana. In the rare instances I have eaten more than the DQ desserts, I can say the chicken wraps and iron grilled (turkey) sandwiches are pretty decent. The salads have been okay. Not great; not horrible; just okay. When I go with my friends, they swear by the mushroom burgers and fries, so I trust their judgment. read more

It had been so long that the first one she made was almost completely melted and had to make another. Really, this place looks old and crummy and is run by two teenagers on a Friday night. This DQ is under new ownership, the building has been totally remodeled from floors to ceiling, front to back. All new equipment, now very clean with all new staff. It is now a Dairy Queen-Orange Julius Treat Center which offers a wider menu selection. It still has great food items and run many lunch time specials at great prices. The new management is doing a much better job than the old reviews that still show up here. The low rating are for the old place. Check it out, it is a great place, now! The retarded teenage manager wouldn't give us a refund or do anything to compensate, we never went there again.
