tried the new smoky classic bbq burger and the carolina bbq burger with fried pickles. let me say that they did a phenomenal job on the fried pickles. one of my favorite fried pickles to date! both burgers were good but the carolina had a slight heat to it that i wasn't expecting and didn't care for. the fries were crispier than normal and were probably the best that i've had from any shake shack. we ordered at the kiosk and it seems there are some redundant and extra steps in the ordering process... but it was pretty simple. as we were dining in, the food was brought to our table. plenty of seats to choose from both inside and outside on their covered patio. i saw some reviews saying the music was way too loud but it was fairly subtle to me and not overwhelming. read more

I haven't been here in a while and heard about the chicken sandwich so decided to give it a try on a Sunday afternoon. Got the regular chicken sandwich and a sunset lemonade. Both were very good and I would get both again. The piece of chicken was bigger than the bun and very good. I like the condiment and shredded lettuce and pickles on it. Really makes a nice sandwich. The service was good both at the register and the young man who brought the food. The place was clean and the drink station was clean and well maintained. That's where the napkins and ketchup are too. Drinks are self serve except for tea....you have to go up and ask for it. The music is very loud and I imagine with a lot of people in the room it would be hard to hear anyone at your table. They have outdoor seating but it was not a good day for it. I tried them all and I'd say my favorite one is SmokeShack (yummy bacon and cheese) followed by ShroomShack (cheese stuffed mushroom). They also have seasonal ones pretty regularly, that's always a good pick. I loved Korean bbq one and truffle one back when they were available. Make sure to get shake sauce on a side! I'm also OBSESSED with seasonal milk shakes. They are SO GOOD! Birthday cake with sprinkles is my all-time fave but just now I tried Oreo funnel cake and it is Oreo perfection! What can I say, it's a smashburger - nothing really special about it but there's nothing bad about it. The burger, fries, and shake were all really good, if expensive. One major issue: they served me rotten avocado on the burger. It was black+brown all the way through. I went to the counter and told them the avocado was bad and asked if there was any possibility that I could get replacement avocado. They are located at Waverly Place which has a variety of shops and restaurants so parking wasn't an issue. I could see it possibly being an issue during dinner or lunch rush or over the weekends, but there is plenty of parking available. It is clean and organized. The food is good, but way too overpriced for what you get. The primary reason for how overpriced it was is because everything is A-La-Carte. I personally don't like restaurants that serve food this way unless the prices are much more reasonable. I ordered a Single Smokeshack with a lettuce bun ($7.29) and an order of fries ($3.09). My friend ordered a Single Cheeseburger with a regular bun ($5.79) and cheese fries ($4.09). We both ordered waters to drink and our total came out to be about $22. You can go other places and get the same quality with a bit larger portion for less. This is not to say the food wasn't good, but it definitely wasn't worth the price. I don't mind paying for good quality and portions, but this didn't match up to the price at all. I did, however, appreciate the option to customize my order. With a tight menu of 5 or so sandwiches, chicken options and shakes, it doesn't take long to order and the staff here is patient. Grab a buzzer, grab yo drink and then grab a table. Shake Shack has a nice patio overlooking the Waverly Place commons down below. But it's all about the food, amiright?! Shake Shack puts their high-quality beef and chicken in a wonderful potato bun and just the right amount of toppings. Thin-sliced tomato, a perfect leaf of lettuce and super melty American cheese. The balance in their burgers is excellent and I prefer the basic Shack Burger to the Smokehouse Shack. Fries are perfectly crisped crinkle cuts which hold a lot of ketchup (or your condiment of choice) for good eating. The burgers are also nicely grilled for some good old flavor! Beer and wine are available giving you some nice beverage options for your meal. I know there are a lot of complaints about the waits and so on but it's not entirely fair to ding a place due to its good eats and popularity. And overall I'm impressed by Shake Shack and what it's delivering. I'll definitely be back sometime soon to enjoy that delicious seared beef! And dive into the shakes but after a 1,000+ calorie meal, it's sorta tough to add more! So happy to have you in the Triangle, Shake Shack.
