After finding out today was free cone day, I decided to walk 3 miles to my nearest DQ. I was met by cheerful staff, amid the ruckus of customers. The young lady at the register (Olivia) was very helpful; and turned my frown upside down : ) (She needs a raise ) I decided to try the crunchy cookie dipped cone. This has to be the worst Dairy Queen I have ever eaten at in my life 1. It is run by a bunch of teenagers that have no clue how to even make the ice cream. I ordered a "mint chocolate chip shake" and, I kid you not they put the mint flavor on top of the whip cream instead of mixing it in the drink 2. The service is awful. May be the worst DQ I've ever been to - consistently. I recognize that the owner probably likes to employee the local high school kids and that's admirable. However...supervision is CLEARY lacking. Too much screwing around leads to wrong orders and all the delays others have spoken about. Both Rochester and Cannon Falls have much better staffed facilities with the same treats. I'm a Zumbrota resident and I'D rather go elsewhere - I'm tired of lackluster service and screwed up orders. Yet AGAIN tonight I revived the wrong sauce with my chicken. I'm done and I hope travelers will read, take heed and continue on to other DW locations. I would say by far the Best Dairy queen around , from the burgers ect .. compared to byron night and day difference wish the owner of byron would do the same .. you have gourmet burgers from the bun to the meat ect and Byron's shit buns, to greasy sandwich different meat , also fries are great at zumbrota location compared to Byron's.. not sure if they use the same fryer for fries to onion rings to strips .. its gross Highly recommend the zumbrota location for a great representation of what Dairy queen should be .. owner is a very nice lady and knows how to run things read more

We had an awesome experience here at DQ in Zumbrota. There were a number of patrons when we walked in, but we gave our orders and it seemed pretty fast to me. I'd like to extol the virtues of my custom built Peanut Buster Parfait...I love it made with caramel instead of chocolate. Not all Dairy Queen workers get this...but it's heavenly when they do. My DQ Treat was perfectly concocted with the right amount of ice milk, caramel & peanuts, since it's so disappointing to have a bunch of ice milk but to caramel at the bottom. Yes, after reading the other reviews I was not expecting such good service, but the young women behind the counter were wonderful. read more

Eh. Some retraining is needed. Going through drive thru when ordering multiple blizzards, specifically asking for lids, and then not getting them is annoying. Every. Single. Time. As many reviews state before me, the service is rather slow. I've stopped here many times through the drive thru for a treat before getting to Rochester and each time have waited a decent amount of time for each experience. Every time I eat inside the restaurant it seems to get smaller and smaller inside. Dining area seems crammed- or it might just be the way they have their tables placed. The pop machine and trash are right where you place your order so if the line is long you have to fight through to get your things. Bathroom is off to the side but is right on display to the tables lining either side of the door. The last time I ate inside the restaurant the young girl taking my order only seemed to process half of what I was saying and in turn ended up messing up our order. They always seem to be way over staffed when ever I'm here- seemingly noticing more staff eating on their breaks in the dining area than actual customers. Then 3-4 girls always just standing behind the register counter that is barely large enough to hold the 1-2 registers they have. Over staffed establishment with an understaffed feel. A little more delegation could go a long way here if they plan to continue to have so many staff members working. read more

This is by far the best DQ in the surrounding areas. Very clean establishment and excellent food. The location is wonderful, right off of hwy 52. Very friendly staff who remember 'regulars' orders. Sure, sometimes it can take a little bit to get your food, but there is a reason why Dairy Queen's punch line is "Fan food, not fast food". They specialize in quality. If you want to have a chicken sandwich and fries, 20 seconds after you order them, that's not possible. The only way that would be possible is if they had that food ready and just sitting there waiting for someone to order it. If you want old, poor quality food, but in 20 seconds because your time is so precious- go to McDonald's. You'll get nasty food, but you'll get it fast :) But if you're looking for quality food, this DQ is the place to go! This Dairy Queen also supports their community tremendously with giving away tons of coupons to the local schools and libraries. They also do an impressive amount of fundraising for the CMN Gillette hospital in St. Paul. I would highly recommend stopping here to grab a treat or some great food! Side note: The cakes here are awesome as well!! I've had to request custom cakes to be made without the crunch in the middle, because my friend can't have gluten. They gladly made my custom order in a timely manner and were very accommodating on our needs and what we wanted the cake to look like! read more

Normally a 3 star type of place, strictly average fast food and typically DQ 'treats'. What brought it down to a one was organization, service and especially health and sanitation. At 3:00 PM last Friday I stopped by. 10-12 people were milling around the counter, we no idea who had been waited on. Someone walked in, walked to the front and was waited on, no who's next or a line guiding people. Strike 1. Two young ladies were behind the counter, alternating between talking orders and money then making whatever was ordered. It would have been much more efficient if one was handling the register and one was making the malts, cones, and waiting to fill food orders. Strike 2. One of the clerks would take an order, give change, then handle food without washing her hands. She make a smoothie by guiding ice into a blender with her bare hand. She also bagged an order of fries by putting her hand over the top of them, holding them down. This prevented fries from falling out of the container but in the process her bare hand touched nearly all the fries. Strike 3. read more

This is a really DQ, actually it's my favorite. They have everything and open all year round. The only thing I hate is the flamethrower it's just nasty, sorry but I want to taste my food not just the overwhelming sauce. I have been here a number of times recently, each time getting worse results than the previous visit- I doubt I'll give it another chance. The sad thing about it is that I think their food is wonderful and some of the best as far as fast food goes. They give too-small portions at an over-priced cost. For example, on my last visit, I ordered a 6 piece chicken tender meal, electing to upgrade my drink to a small shake, along with a large fry and 2 Dilly Bars (which are free with kids meals and therefore, one of the lowest process items on the menu). The "large" fry I ordered was only half full. When I asked the teenage that was helping me if he would fill the fries, I was told a serving was only level to the top, not overflowing... (he later informed me that he was the "manager"). I explained that I understood and wasn't expecting overflowing, but a single French fry stocking up out of the top did not deem it as "level". So, how much did the 1 meal (with upgraded drink to a small shake), 1 large fry, 2 ice creams on a stick and 1 headache cost me??? $30! Uh uh... I was NOT happy. After arriving home and unloading the bag, I found that the chicken meal didn't even have the fry, so even after everything and all the frustration, I had to drive back to DQ, go inside and waste more time and gas to get the fries that went with my chicken (cold by the time I was finally able to eat them). Aside from the prices and serving issues, I also have had a consistent problem with the service. I can deal with the 10 minute wait for your food (in the drive-thru) because I am assuming it's good food and waiting means it's fresh, right? Yet time and time again, both inside and in the drive-thru, it seems like the delay is a direct result of being ignored and employees chatting about everything but work. Finally, I feel there should be some customer service training provided to the employees by the management because it is seriously lacking! Prior to my last (and most likely, final) visit I have never complained, always been respective kind and polite despite the disappointment in service, yet I have never received a smile. Often in the drive-thru, I didn't even get acknowledged with a single word at the window until the end- it often goes like this: -I pull up to the window and wait a couple minutes -window opens and the employees takes my cash our card that I've been holding in my hand and then suss the window -window opens, employee hands my card back and shuts the window again (still not a word spoken) -after a minimum of 5 min or so, window opens, food and drink comes out -quick "Thanks" mumbled from employee (FINALLY A WORD!) before closing the window- which is also often before I can ask for ketchup, or a straw, or a napkin... -I wait until someone notices me sitting there and opens the windowso I can finally get my condiments. Basically, much too much is left un desirable. I like the food much, much better than McDonald's, but I will stop there on my way thru town instead of DQ. Why? I don't know a single person who works at either location, but I do know that I can always get at the Zumbrota McDonalds what I can't at the DQ: Service with a smile. read more
