Went to this location for a specific blizzard, very easy as it was only 3 ingredients. Did not receive what I ordered. I kindly asked what was in it and this isn't what I ordered. It was missing the chocolate cone dip that I specifically mentioned and got something with peanut butter. When I declined the offer of just adding the cone dip to it, the girl rolled her eyes and took my blizzard back with a major attitude. It took literally one minute for her to remake it properly. Need work on customer service skills and potentially reading back what someone ordered at the speaker may be helpful to avoid things like this. I now see why there's so many poor reviews. read more

My family ordered 7 items from the ice cream menu, I had already driven down the road when two of my kids said that the their blizzards tasted bad. One was Vanilla with cookie dough, it tasted like pumpkin. The other was a reeses pieces and cookie dough, the cookie dough in that one tasted terrible and like bananas. I drove back to the restaurant and explained the problem with each. We sat there for over 5 minutes while the employee called the owner. The common ingredient in both was the cookie dough. The owner allowed the employee to refund me for one blizzard but refused to make a replacement for the other because there was"nothing wrong with it". I asked if the employee had eaten the cookie dough today, she had not but still insisted it was fine. It was not. Stay away from the DQ in Mchenry. A miserly owner that does not care about customer satisfaction. Or the fact that ingredients tasted foul. And on a visit this summer, the employees insisted that they could not give us a cup of water, after having spent 10 plus dollars on ice cream, instead they sold my daughter 2 bottles of water at 2 dollars each. Yesterday I ordered three (3) chocolate malts - she somehow thought I said "cone" - the server copped an attitude when I nicely corrected her (I should have driven away at that point), so I gave her the difference in cost and when I got home we could taste the cone flavor and there was NO MALT flavor at all! Worst Dairy Queen on the planet. Went there with a coupon that they refused to honor. First excuse was they did not have a scanner to except it. Looked at the bottom of the coupon and it said if they say they don't have a scanner to use this provided code. They refused to use the code. I emailed corporate about this. Got no response back since this appears to be false advertising mixed with bait and switch since I was emailed the coupon I tried to use. Next time I went there I got a blizzard that had bits of plastic mixed into a butterfinger blizzard. My wife and I threw out are ice cream. Went to the drive through at a few minutes to 10pm, the light up sign said "open". We went to the drive through and waited for several minutes and no one acknowledged us. As we went around to the window beeping our horn to get their attention, the open sign was shut off and the lights were turned off a good HOUR before the hours stated online. We will NEVER go to the Dairy Queen in McHenry again. Such poor customer service. And shame on them because my bf and I love ice cream. read more

I drove to DQ this afternoon to treat my granddaughters after their first day of school. I ordered a medium Brownie Batter Blizzard and a small Thin Mint Blizzard. The small Thin Mint blizzard came out with peanut butter chunks. I questioned the girl at the window about it not looking like a Thin Mint. She said, "Yes, it is." I then ordered an additional Thin Mint blizzard (for someone at home). When it came out, I said again that the first Thin Mint ordered was NOT Thin Mint. The gal at the window then closed the window, turned to someone else working, talked to other worker, opened the window again and said in a curt voice, "she heard you say Reese's Pieces". My car passenger heard me ask for a Thin Mint. Her attitude was so rude. I drove away with the wrong order, but was not going to argue. I will drive to Woodstock the next time I want DQ. read more

We went to Dairy Queen excited as we usually love going. This is the 2nd time I have been to this location with my family and was not pleased at all. First of all we ordered and thought the young girl taking it received the wrong order. When we got to the window, there was another young girl. I again repeated my order and asked her politely if that was what they received. Her response was, I don't know I don't have the headset... she then took my card and closed the window. I waited a few minutes and sure enough my order was wrong. When I explained to her that the blizzard was wrong, she looked at me like I was crazy and looked around like what should she do.. they did correct the order then closed the window right away. This location has lost two customers tonight. I had planned to buy an ice cream cake for my wife and me, our anniversary coming up soon, and arrived at the store at ten minutes before the posted closing time, ten o'clock. The chairs were already up on the tables, and the door was locked, even though the "Open" sign was still lit. I could see the staff flitting about in the back, but when I knocked on the door, they kept out of sight. Having seen many negative reviews on this page, I think some major changes are called for, beginning, but not limited to, severe reprimands for irresponsible employees, and if that doesn't work, then the termination of their employment. read more

I took my family here today as a treat for working hard in the yard on such a hot day. I was satisfied with our service overall. The employees were all very attentive. I have to mention one thing - the teenage girls in their shorty shorts made me very uncomfortable. As a female, I was uncomfortable when the girls would turn around to make ice cream and their butt cheeks are hanging out of the back of their shorts. I can only imagine how uncomfortable my husband was. I would reconsider your dress code. I'm not saying the girls or guys should wear polyester long pants however, knee shorts or capris would be more appropriate in the workplace. Went here with my husband and had a good experience . I got a butterscotch dilly bar and he had a large creamy vanilla blizzard with chocolate pieces. Both were yummy and made quickly . The service was great too. I have to say I didn't find the girls shorts to be any shorter then the average shorts you see sold in stores theses days, my husband was to busy digging in to his creamy delicious ice cream to pay attention to underage girls butts. read more

The system for ordering was totally unorganized, usually I go to Dairy Queen and order my items pay and then get them after ordered. Here they have four people taking each individual order making it then asking if you'd like anything else. Also I ordered a blizzard and had it given to me not properly mixed as in a majority of the candy pieces were at the bottom of the cup. Doesn't even deserve to be called a Dairy Queen. Dairy Queen is known for their thick, cold, "UPSIDE DOWN OR ITS FREE" ice cream. The owner is very unprofessional and rude. When asked to make a new blizzard because the one that was handed to me was soft and slurpy, he went on to put an argument as to why I was at fault for not bringing it back sooner and basically called me a liar. Went as far as to say I had been in the drive through 5mins and 30 seconds ago (3mins of WAITING for my blizzard and cone). I explained how I hadn't noticed my blizzard was melted because I took it without checking it cause I was in a hurry. Partner convinced me to park and eat quickly when I saw my blizzard and had a small argument about wether I should go back because I didn't want to be that person. Anyways, went back and the owner was very rude, swirled my ice cream with the spoon, flipped it upside down and let the ice cream fall in the drive through, all this only after going off on me for about 5 minutes on why I was wrong. This store takes advantage of younger customers. My daughter went through the drive thru. Somehow the order was misheard and they gave her something with peanuts. Luckily, she did not taste it. However, they did not replace her order nor give her money back. (We now know she also needs to identify herself as a peanut allergy since they do not clean the machines and there could be cross contamination.) Still it seems to me it was errors on both sides. People can be misheard and mistakes can happen.They could have chosen to be kind and replaced the order. Sadly, they chose plain nastiness both in the way they spoke to her and me. read more

Today we gave it another try, after repeating our order back to me, they still got it wrong (2 cones and a soda), and again rude when I pointed it out., as though it was my fault.... I went to the DQ @ noon today to get a cone and a small blizzard. As I pull around, I see they have a drive thru. I go around and sit a few min and call out-no reply, so I go up to the order window. I almost think they are closed but see a couple inside. I park the car and go in. I wait a while for the clerk to finish the couple's order. I see she has the headset for the drive thru on her shoulder (why bother having a drive thru). She's a little slow but I try not to be rude or too impatient, but from the time I pulled up at noon it's been 10 min and there are no other customers in sight so it wasn't like it was super busy. I was already a little annoyed about the drive thru window-whatever. I place my order: a small blizzard and a med. dipped cone. She makes the blizzard and then starts the cone. Ice cream won't come out-coming out at a snails pace-something wrong with the machine. She works at this for a good 4-5 min. and the cone isn't even filled for a small cone, but it's now been past a total 15 min. I say, "You know, I can just take the small cone," but she doesn't hear me. She sets the cone down, goes in back to speak to a manager about why the machine isn't working while the order sits (probably another 2-3 min). She comes back to the same cone and begins to resume filling it. It fills a little faster. She actually turns to me and before even asking she says, "It's coming out faster now, so I'm just gonna throw this one out!" WHAT? I stood there for 10 min while she tried to figure out why her machine didn't work. Guess what? THE MACHINE STILL DIDN'T WORK, and she set to start the whole process ALL OVER AGAIN! She threw out the cone, that if she was concerned about the quality, could have offered the option to just give it to me for free I suppose, but tossed it. I stopped her and told her to forget it. Paid for the now melting blizzard and left. Time spent on this store for one blizzard and the aggravation: 26 min. And the manager was apparently too lazy to come up front to see what was wrong with their ice cream machine. How they stay in business there I do not know, but I won't be in to see them again. read more
