This Place Sucks!!!!!! I went there on Thursday when everyone was talking about the Gyro's.. We got there about 1pm Really no one in the Place. And we asked for 3 Gyros. They asked if we Called in the order, We said no, They told up it would be about a Hour wait. We asked why he said we only take food orders if you call it in...... So we just left. WOW !!!!! Very small place and you have to call in your order???? If you have about 1 1/2 hours for lunch. Do not go !!!! Like I said I thought we would try it..... Dogs on the Chain is my new go-to spot whenever I'm back home! They have hands down the best Italian beef around -- better than the traditional places I used to visit in Gurnee or Volo. The flavor, the quality, and the consistency are on a different level. On top of that, the service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Took me awhile to finally stop in here and try their offerings and I am really happy I did. First off great service. Friendly and funny exchanges while preparing your order. Place is clean and well kept with a simple menu. I ordered a Chicago dog with fries. Been in this area now for 30 years originally from Chicago but this was the absolute best hot dog and fries I've had anywhere bar none. And I've been to all the well known hot dogs joints thru Chicago, this place beats em all with maybe the exception of the now closed Hot Dougs for those in the know. I can't wait to go back to sample all of the sandwiches on the menu. I will now be a regular. Heads use this app for directions, it will lead you a house. You're going to have to Google map it. The food, we stopped by for the pizza puff..can't get it in California and we were in the neighborhood. So I made it a point to find a place that served them. Not better or worse than other pizza puffs. Why give it 5 stars. Two reasons 1. Always support local restaurants when you can, especially when the food doesn't stink. 2. The guy working was cool to talk to. He ended up sharing some of his personal deer sausage links with me to take home. Tried it and it was super good. I don't know if I will be back to the area but if I do, I will stop by again. read more

Hot dog not Vienna beef but I must say was just as good if not better! They have the Eisenberg brand that is local Chicago. The only thing I would like to be different is maybe have fountain drinks not just bottle/cans. The parking is little cramped. Overall really good hotdog and fries! read more

Stopped here for lunch and have a few topics to comment on. I ordered two dogs, a fry, and soda which came in a can. With tax that was over $10. For me I think about $2 too much versus other dog locations through Chicagoland. I realized why when receiving my order. First Hand cut fries and larger dog that normal; almost like a double dog. The dogs came on poppyseed buns that are steamed and although one was missing the pickle, they were loaded the Chicago way. Tasty! While waiting for my food which was slow to come out I watched either Italian beef or gyro go into the microwave! Only dogs here for me! read more

Great authentic gyros, best outside the city. Plenty of chicago dogs places using Vienna, very few great gyros joints in north Lake County. Pita is fresh, sauce is the real thing, and don't need to add extra meat with their standard. Gyro meat cooks on the rotating skewer, and I simply can't say enough about how good it is. Don't have to miss the old Greek gyros stands anymore. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday looking for a hotdog while riding around, but they were closed, except for Slots. Smelled funky inside.

The hot dog meal special is great. It's a 1/4 pound hot dog. Don't think they're small ones like at other Hot Dog places. It comes with a basket load of hand cut fries. I'll be back. PS - They had to raise the price but the cost of food has been increasing so I wasn't surprised to see that. read more

Well what can I say the best hotdogs I ever had. This is not one of those skinny little things at most stands. Wow eisenberg dogs are fat and juicy. Try this little place it wont disappoint. Eros plate is also great. 5 stars for sure. read more

My husband and I just ordered from here for the first time and we absolutely love this place !! Fast and excellent food !! The gyro was the best I have had and the fact that it wasn't greasy was awesome ! The pizza puff very good the hot dogs are by far the best hot dog we have ever had !! My husband doesn't really care for hot dogs but he enjoyed this one !! The BBQ sauce was great . The cucumber sauce was different at first I was like I'm not sure since it's not think and uses different seasoning and is more of a sauce for falafel but after you keep eating it it's actually really good !! The fries are fresh cut and very good too ! Only thing they need is to add cheese balls without jalapenos and to DELIEVER TO VOLO lol I would go broke ! Found this place last night on accident and let me tell you, it's a little hidden gem if you like good hot dogs. I consider myself to be a hot dog snob and I have to give props to the dogs this place prepares. They use a different brand, Eisenberg hot dogs and I never had one before, most places serve up Vienna (of multiple different grades) and Red Hot Chicago so I didn't know what to expect. This brand dog tasted as good if not better then Vienna's best grade dog. I didn't see a charred option on the menu so I asked if they could do that and they were happy to oblige. I got 2 char Chicago dogs and fries and my wife got a jumbo dog and rings and we both loved them. My dogs had that snap you get from a high end Vienna dog with the natural casings but with better taste and the charred flavor just made it that much better. The fresh cut fries were great too! If you live in or are in the Fox Lake area and want a really good dog, check this place out! I rarely give thumbs up to random hot dog joints but this one is a diamond in the rough! read more

Great place and yummy food!!! Got the Gyro and the Footlong Hot Dog with cheese FF. All of it was just perfect. The Gyro sauce was very tasty and fresh. Loved the fresh cut FF too. Glad to have a new tasty place in the area. read more

Meatball sandwich was spectacular! I have switched my Go-To for DOtC for sure! Last time I was here I had the footlong hotdog with everything, usually places don't use all beef and good luck finding one. Park on the Left side of building it's easier to get back out. read more

Had a hotdog there today and it was well...fantastic. i know its a hotdog but this isnt your same ole same ole hotdog. Stop in you'll see its twice the size of the other hotdog joints. Italian beef was ok. Guessing papa Charlie's and the beef portion was a little skimpy. Sad not many places make there own beef anymore. I'll try the rest of the menu though and see how it goes. Still though can't remember the last time a hotdog actually stood out as something I'd write a review about. read more

I visited this place with my dad tonight and was extremely impressed. The owner was very personable with us and made great conversation. The interior is decorated in a cool quirky way I thought fit the name of the restaurant very well. There was a nice, decently-sized tv there where we watched a sports game as the cook prepared our food. The food came out quickly for food made to order. I was very happy with the quality of it especially with my Italian beef, pizza puff, and the fries. Overall, this place is very high quality and I definitely suggest it if you're looking for a classic hotdog or burger place. I highly recommend trying this place as you won't regret it! read more

When Dogs on the chain first opened it was good. I always get the gyro combo. The last time I got it 4/8/18 the meat was dry and over cooked and the fries were mush dripping with fryer oil my fingers were coated with oil taking a couple fries out. And they no longer have fountain drinks just can soda. The fries size needs to be cut down and need to be a little more crunchy. I am trying to help you guys out by giving my feed back. I really want you to be part of Fox Lake's main places to eat!!!!!!! read more
