This location has excellent customer service. I accidentally placed a delivery order as pickup, and "paid" with a free sandwich coupon. I called the store and the employee said I had to purchase a new sandwich in order for one to delivered. My order arrived with both sandwiches and another free sandwich coupon! I am long time Potbelly fan! I go here practically once every time I come back home. Unfortunately we have no Potbelly down in the south so my cravings are through the roof when I pass by this shop on grand. It's basically like a Chipotle for sandwiches so what's there not to like?! I got serviced immediately by a really kind server. She listened to my order and made sure to make the sandwich to my preference! It was finished really quick and I was already out the door in less than 10 minutes. Very convenient location right on Grand Ave. next to all the different stores and restaurants. A classic potbelly experience! The place smells of amazing sandwiches and is always very clean. The tables were taped off to follow social distancing guidelines. The workers were very sweet and quick. They did forget my pickle but I was able to run back in and grab it. The rewards program is awesome with occasional free treats and coupons. I try to get something new each time because everything on the menu is amazing. Definitely order a smoothie or shake because they are so creamy and the cookies are a nice touch. I am very familiar with Potbelly Sandwich Works in the Greater Chicago area, but this was my first visit to their furthest North outpost. The thing that I find comforting about Potbelly is that each location is decorated differently but there is a commonality that makes me feel at home. It reminds me of a popular campus sandwich and soup shop back in my College days. Staff was very efficient and friendly- dining area was clean and at the time of day that I visited, quiet. Gentle late 60's and early 70's pop and rock music was in the background. There is a small outdoor seating area, but I can't imagine sitting there since on one side of you there is Grand Avenue traffic and the other side strip mall lack of ambiance. Perhaps it is there with parents and their hyperactive offspring in mind? If you have never tried a Potbelly sandwich, you are in for a toasted treat. Ordered a bigs grilled chicken & cheddar with everything minus onion which, according to the sign in the restaurant, includes mayo, mustard, hot peppers, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, oil, and Italian seasoning. What I got: - Flat bread, not fluffy bread like the advertised pic - A sprinkle of lettuce, certainly not billowing up like in the picture - A SINGLE thin sliced tomato - No pickle whatsoever - A pinch of hot peppers - No mayo or mustard - Cheddar cheese? Where??? Oh you mean those two little yellow spots! I see it now. - A SINGLE slice of chicken that's not even long enough to cover the length of the bread. Another disappointing visit to Potbelly in Gurnee. This is the second one in a row. I thought maybe the last one was just a bad day but by the emptiness of the restaurant, I am guessing it may be a trend. Since Potbelly doesn't offer a salad without meat, I order the uptown salad with no chicken. You would think that they would at least fill the bowl with lettuce given that I am saving them money on the chicken. My salad today was terrible. It had a small handful of lettuce mix and about a 1/2 cup of blue cheese. I normally wouldn't complain about getting a lot of toppings but I didn't really feel like eating straight blue cheese and that was what many of my bites were. My coworkers sandwich was not great either. Didn't seem to be much meat on it. I am not sure what makes sandwich and salad making so difficult but I tend to think it is an employee not caring issue. My salad clearly wasn't even close to full in the container but it went thru the person who made it without a blink. Disappointing to say the least. I won't be back. read more

You can say what you want, but my daughter would not order the Farmhouse salad if it has to have bleu cheese, for instance. Happens again, and we are done. I picked up a cater order on 5/1 and it was ready exactly on time which was great. I had requested that all tomatoes be on the side (for allergy reasons) and I even called the day before to confirm they had gotten that note and the order would for sure be made with all tomatoes on the side. I picked the order up in Gurnee then drove an hour to my family's party. Opened the boxes to see tomatoes on the sandwiches. I did receive 3 containers of tomatoes on the side but that defeated the request. We had to order chicken for those family members allergic to tomatoes that could not eat the subs. I still like their food but will never go back to this location strictly because of service. Last time 10 min just to get someone to come out if the back. This time I ordered a sandwich and a smoothie. Two girls came in after I did order different smoothies and sandwiches. The guy who took both our orders went to go do the smoothies after prepping there sandwiches. When I went to pay I asked if my smoothie was ready she said no only the other ones were what kind of service is that. My parents come here all the time but today i went in here for food that we had ordered today. The guy behind the counter seemed like he had had a rough day but was still so so sweet. The food was scheduled to be ready at 745 we got there about 5 minutes early and the food was done at 750. The guy working apologized for the wait, explained that there was a minor malfunction on one of their equipment that caused the delay, then insisted (after I refused twice stating it was unneccesary) that I took a cookie for the wait. My husband and I have been to this location twice, the first time I ordered the regular Italian sandwich with broccoli and cheddar soup and my husband had the big roast beef sandwich and chicken noodle soup. When we got to the cash we were only given our sandwiches and had to remind the cashier that we also wanted soup. We sat down to enjoy our sandwiches and soup but found it so loud in the restaurant that it was hard to enjoy it! It wasn't loud because there were so many customers, in fact my husband and I were the only customers there, it was loud because the staff were laughing and joking around and gossiping about people.... Normally seeing staff laughing and joking around when a restaurant isn't busy doesn't bother me, but the fact that they were so loud and gossiping about people (gossiping about their friends not customers, thank goodness) just rubbed me the wrong way! Regardless of the experience with noise, the sandwiches and soup were FANTASTIC! It was so good that we decided to return the following weekend to satisfy our craving! Now this second visit my husband and I decided to switched up our sandwich order, I ordered the Skinny Hammie and broccoli and cheddar soup, my husband got the big Italian and chicken noodle soup. Again we had to remind the cashier that we ordered soup, seems as though there is a lack of communication between placing your order with the person making your sandwich and the person at the cash. My husband and I opted to eat in even though we had a bad experience the last time, we wanted to enjoy our soup and sandwiches while they were hot. This time there were four other customers in the restaurant but the staff was still loud and joking around, however not as loud as last time and they were not gossiping!!! My husband enjoyed his sandwich and soup, I on the other hand did not enjoy mine. I had asked for the same toppings and condiments that i got last time, however this time they added way too much vinaigrette! The vinaigrette is pre measured for salads in little clear take out containers... So Instead of adding an appropriate amount of vinaigrette for a sandwich, she added the whole container enough for a salad! Next time I will ask for it on the side and add it myself, because this totally ruined my sandwich and made the bread so soggy it fell apart! I'm sure my husband and I will be back, now that we know what and how to order!!! However if something else happens to ruin our experience, I think we might give up on this location and go to another to get our fix! read more

The food is always good, but there were some big service gaps today. Asked for a peppermint shake, they yelled peppermint shake and the shout was returned. When we paid, we were told they didn't have peppermint and that we were told that in line. Odd that neither my husband or I heard that there wasn't peppermint. Shouldn't they have asked if we wanted a different flavour? Oh, and if there's no peppermint take down the sign. While we were eating we heard them call for a peppermint shake again, ridiculous. Tables were messy and obviously hadn't been cleaned in some time. Most of the napkin holders were empty. Not a good day for Potbellies. Oh and Diet Dr Pepper was out of order too. read more

What's cool about this location is they usually have someone singing, just like any guy or girl would in a coffee shop with their acoustic guitar. To start with I was super hungry so since me and my husband had been here b4 I figured it was a safe bet...Not!!! I ordered a Big Italian! Usually they ask what you want on it. This guy told me that he was gonna fix it like it's supposed to be fixed! RUDE!!! Bottom line...wayyyy too many peppers and sloppy! Comfortable, warm environment. While there were only two people working, they were friendly and efficient. They were very busy but kept smiles on their faces. The food was delicious and definitely tasted fresher than some other sandwich shops. The only reason I didn't give my review a 5 was because the dining room needed some tidying up. read more

I was already a big fan of Potbelly's but this location has exceeded my expectations. I have never been to the actual restaurant, but I order catering from them quite frequently for work meetings. The staff is so friendly and helpful. One time I got my order a week early and when I called the restaurant, the manager told me to keep the order (over $100 for no charge) and they would make sure we got the order again on the correct date. They package and label the sandwiches and have each condiment separately packaged. Their cookies are superb. I always get compliments when I choose them for our lunch meetings. read more

My wife and I drove out of our way after having a hankering for some potbelly after going to the gym, getting there at 8:15 pm (they close at 9:00 pm). We get to the register and realize there are no delicious cookies left that we worked so hard at the gym to enjoy. Our cashier Diego notices our dismay and says, "If you'd like, I can make you some fresh ones, if you are willing to wait 20 minutes". Right on time after enjoying our last bites, Diego comes to the rescue with a nicely packaged to go container of delicious freshly baked cookies.
