Last couple visits my peanut buster parfait was made incorrectly and instead of complaining, I just ate it.... It happened again tonight, which made me realize it's not the person making the dessert, it is how they are being instructed. A peanut buster is layered - fudge, peanuts, ice cream x 3, what I've been getting - peanuts, ice cream x 2, and fudge. Will it kill me to have less fudge? No, but if I'm paying for a particular dessert, it better be made right - thank goodness for posters. Anyway, when my husband brought it up to the young ladies, he was informed that the owner doesn't want fudge at the bottom, blah, blah, blah.... Meant nothing to me. Make it right. To the owner of Dairy Queen don't dumb your desserts down, charge high prices AND think it won't be noticed. I've gone to your Homewood location for YEARS and know what a good product looks like. This Dairy Queen is awesome, when ever your driving down Ridge road on a nice summer day there is a long line of the Homewood community waiting to get ice cream. It's a really nice place to take the kids and there is a play ground right across the street at the Irwin Community Center. Although this place does not have an indoor facility to get out of the heat, it's in a great location. The employees are always nice and I love that they have mini blizzards now, I never could finish the larger ones. Also, during lunch hour they have a hot dog cart if you want one. Nothing to do with covid and everything to do with incompetence. I love Dairy Queen, normally. We always tip the young kids who serve us, that's a tough job. But tonight was awful. Asked for a sundae with chocolate sauce not hot fudge and got hot fudge, ok no big deal. Told the girl we'll keep it and someone at home will eat it and we'll pay for the correct one...she corrected it. Then the blizzards we ordered all had almost no candy or cookie dough inside them. And the ice cream is supposed to be vanilla, and they had poured chocolate sauce in them making them soupy chocolate soft serve sans cookie dough. And then the malt we ordered tasted like a shake, no malt powder. Their standards need to be better and they have to pay more attention. Feel stupid for tipping them $5. read more

I live in walking distance of this place but rarely get it. I even tried working here when I was younger and they said I had to know his daughter & be referred by here to work here so I thought that was BS so I poop on them and fart in their general direction. That put aside the ice cream is just ok. I mostly go to other locations to get actual food like you can mostly at others but as far as their ice cream goes it's not better than the locations that serve lots of different food items. You'd think they would make your ice cream better if that's literally all they focus on but it's not the case. You ask for toppings and mix ins with your blizzard and it always seems to be janky as hell and the cups are never filled up. read more

My husband and I came here for dessert after dinner with our two girls. We enjoyed coming to DQ every summer since we lived in the south suburbs, but I will no longer come and when ever I talk of this particular location, I will only speak of frustration and poor customer service. Now, I don't like to pull the race card, but on this night I was given the worst customer service I have EVER received from a Homewood business. I love the town and their businesses. First, we had ordered a cone, small blizzard, and reg. vanilla shake. Everything was good and to our liking, but the shake. It was flavorless and watery. So I went back in line and stood for 10 MIN. to exchange for a small blizzard and pay the difference, not to hard right? Wrong!!!! I get to the counter and the cashier is looking at me with a frown and asked what did I want. I told her I didn't want the shake because it was not drinkable and I wanted a small blizzard, and that I would've paid the difference. Well, she then rolls her eyes and turns to an older man and tells him. He snatches the cup and looks inside of it, and tells me it melted so that's why it was watery and then began to remake me a shake. After, I told him the same thing I told the cashier so I asked for my refund and, he said rudely, "well here is the shake, it's not melted anymore. You gotta new one." I am always cautious before accusing anyone of being racist, but some of DQ's workers here are racist. Because I know if I was another color I would have been treated better. I'm not going to tell you to not come here, but I will tell you that you are much wiser going up the street to the grocers, and buying your own ice cream. read more

Yes, I am reviewing a DQ. I have never been a fan of soft-serve ice cream. I also never liked the standing in line part of these joints. The usual DQ structure sits along side Taco Bell and other suburban shopping street hells. But this one is just different. Maybe the ice cream is the same. Maybe the toppings are the same. But this joint feels right. They just celebrated 40 years of the stand being in business. The building sits at the eastern edge of the downtown area, with a grass covered lot behind and just enough parking alongside and on the street. You order through windows and the lines cue across the sidewalk. And there is always someone standing in line. Great place to get a cheap ice cream after dinner or just while walking to or from the park. read more

I Ordered an original orange Julius, it tasted just like a frothed orange juice. The cream and vanilla flavoring was missing from it. I went back to counter to explain that there was an issue and was told that "the drink doesn't have that flavoring" and "it's just orange juice". I've been to orange Julius' and this is not correct. I have essentially spent nearly $5 on a orange juice drink. If this is not truly orange Julius, then it should not be advertised as such. read more

We get something here maybe 2 or 3 times during the summer. It's standard DQ ice cream, very nice on occasion. The bugs attracted by the lights at night can be a challenge. I enjoy the people watching - there is nothing that shows you more of what your village is really like than watching the people standing in line - the usual teen-agers, tubby middle-aged people, little kids frantic to get their ice cream. The usual low-achiever high school students working behind the counter. The teenagers with cars cruising and fraternizing in the tiny parking lot, the kids playing in the field behind the DQ. A microcosm of the village itself. The bizarre thing about this DQ is the parking. It is very cramped and I feel I come close to scratching somebody else's car about every time I park here. Getting out of the parking lot is like flying a fighter jet through the Loop, very harrowing and dangerous. read more

I'll just cut right to the point. I visited there today and the customer service was terrible. Usually the staff is not super friendly and straight to the point, and I'm ok with that. Today I ordered a root beer float and the flavor of the soda was off. I took the desert back to the window and the server at the window was unnecessarily rude. I asked if I could exchange it for something else. She flat out told me NO. She offered to check the root beer to see if it taste weird and IF it was fine, she couldn't do anything about it. The server asked if I would like to purchase something else. I answered no, but asked for the owner. The server answered in a condescending manner and notified me that the owner is her father and he would handle the situation the same way. She refused to give me a contact number claiming he was too busy (to speak to me). I asked for at least an email (so that the owner would know how she treats his customers). As she starts to write the email address down a woman came from the back and took care of the situation. The older woman offered me a different desert. Keep in mind this whole interaction was over a $3.00 desert. Hopefully DQ will treat their customers with more respect. It's not about the desert, it's about treating and speaking to people as you would want to be treated and spoken to. read more

DQ has always just had vanilla soft serve. It does not pretend to be 31 flavors or whatever it is that you were expecting. It's just Dairy Queen. Simple and largely unchanged over the decades. And no, there isn't any food here. This isn't a "Brazier" or a grill or anything like that. It's a seasonal stand where people have been coming for two or three generations. It's where I grew up going on hot, sticky mosquito-filled nights throughout my childhood. And since I've been back in the Chicago area, I've enjoyed introducing my nephew and my husband to this location. It's a great experience, especially for neighbors old and new. I was targeted by the owner and his wife. I'm the only darker skinned person on the premises. The owners wife for no fathomable reason walked 20 ft to a garbage can and moved it in my direction. It smelled bad so I moved it away from me. I just bought ice cream. I'm standing under the tree trying to enjoy it. She then proceeds to yell at me asking me why I moved it then her husband, the owner, tells me why don't I just leave. I just put money in his wallet and idek why she had to move it. Then they proceeded to get into a verbal argument with me and some white lady charged at me aggressively recording because if I dragged her back to Africa by her ponytail she needed evidence but on true white fashion they didn't record her friend provoking the situation. Sickening. I was there on Thursday September 17th and asked for a mini blizzard. I ordered a small one to taste a new flavor. What I got was reject ice cream in a small cup and coconut and pineapple thrown in it. I thought I should reject it but it was the first time I ordered a mini. When I got home, I was sick to my stomach, went to the bathroom often and slept until 7 o'clock p.m. on the 18th of Friday night. I will not go there again. i will go to McDonald's for ice cream. .................................................... To Mopsie B....Dairy Queen does have soft serve chocolate and zebra ice cream. Homewood has a lot of Mayberry in it, and DQ is certainly part of that. They put up a daily countdown sign to their Spring opening, a tradition mentnioned in Chicago Magazine as part of it's piece on the town. And of course, most kid baseball teams go there after games. Yesterday I ordered a cake from this location, with my past experience without pre-ordered I had to stood under the hot sun for a long time till they get the cake to me, so this year I decide too pre- ordered it. First of all, they said they ran out of the 8' cake so I told them 10'will be find and when comes time to pick up the cake. I were told that they don't have the container to put my cake in and they ask if they could just put it in the box. I told them as long as the cake will not get smash and that will be fine. So I was asked to step aside to wait while they continue to serve customers. I stood under the sun with my 2 childrens for half an hours while they serve other customers and there are still no cake when I complain to them they stated the cake was done just needed to put it in the box. I told them ain't that what preordering is for so I don't have to stand here to wait for the cake. In the end I told them to forget about it and took my children to Tinley Park location and they have it done in 2 minutes. read more

I have been coming to this location for my entire life, and my mom for most of her life- they opened when she was 3 and our whole family has been loyal customers ever since (I honestly do think it tastes better than any other DQ). It's seasonal, which can be a downer when you REALLY want DQ in the winter months, but it also makes you appreciate it more in the summer! I just wanted to correct a few previous posts as well...someone had mentioned that they inly take cash, which is false. I have paid with a credit card many times before with no issue. And just a small comment to the woman who "pulled the race card" and stated that the workers are racist....Homewood is far from a "white dominant" community- just because you had some bad service one night (on what seems like a very busy night is you waited in line for 10 extra minutes) don't assume its because of race, when there are only 2-3 people working that tiny shop on a busy night it can be very stressful (no I do not work there!) read more
