I was recently looking for some restaurants to try that are black owned. Saw a video that The Black Foodies did on this establishment so my friend decided to go here on 3/25/25. It's in Flossmoor, IL. I'm so happy to do this review on them. We went on a Tuesday and although I had in mind what I wanted to order from the regular menu, we arrived while their Happy Hour was still going on so we decided to take advantage of their tacos for Taco Tuesday and their guacamole. The guac and chips came out first. It looked so fresh and when I tasted it, the angels were singing! Delicious. Then came the tacos - I was surprised how big they were, filled up with good stuff. I had the steak and the chicken. Both were good but I liked the steak best. I had had a challenging workday so I treated myself to the Lemondrop Flight as I love lemondrop martinis. You can pick three from the flavors of original, passion fruit, watermelon, mango and strawberry. The presentation is beautiful in what they bring it in. Toya, one of the owners made it herself and she is definitely a good at making drinks. I enjoyed them immensely. This place is a total VIBE - small, intimate and cozy. They play R&B that takes you back to the 80s and 90s - we were thoroughly enjoying it. Many come in and sit at the bar where there are two large screen TVs. They also have a small outdoor seating when the weather is nice. We were really enjoying our time there. We had the best wait staff - Chris was super cool, engaging and just plain nice. He was informing us of all the events they have there which piqued my interest. Toya also came over and talked with us and I complimented her on the restaurant and promised her that I would definitely be back and would bring others. I have already posted about them on social media and many of my friends are planning on seeing what they offer. For dessert, I ordered the Turtle Cheesecake. I'm kind of a cheesecake snob because my late Mother made the best cheesecake. The presentation of their cheesecake was gorgeous. The caramel drizzle and nuts on it was inviting. One bite and I was SOLD! I was too full to eat the entire big slice they gave me so I worked on it some more when I got home. This place opened in 2023. I wish them the best because they definitely have something there. I can't wait to come back there, it's a place to come, relax, eat good food and enjoy the positive environment that there. One of the first recommendations for a restaurant that I got when I moved to the Far South Suburbs came from a server at a breakfast spot that I had visited. She recommended Poppin Corks Bistro. I passed by several time, and being solo, I was looking to get a seat at the bar rather than in the main dining area. There has never been a time that I passed that there was a seat open at the bar, so I sat in the main dining area this one time. I ordered blackened catfish with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. This was a hit. It was full of flavor without going overboard with seasoning. And I appreciate that it was cooked to order. It made up for the cranberry juice being water with a "hint" of cranberry juice, an indication that it probably came from a tap. Service was top and one of the owners made rounds to check on customers. I may stop by again at some point in the future. It would certainly be a welcomed break when I am taking respite from cooking at home. read more

The establishment has a very pleasing look. Had the opportunity to meet the owners they were very pleasant. I really don't believe they have a clue about running a business due to our conversation. Running a restaurant is very complex and unless you understand the business customers will be unhappy with the overall experience. I wish them well and do not plan to return to the establishment. read more

We showed up and found out we were in soft opening stage so you are aware when this review was being made. I had seen the sign and have been patiently waiting. We were sat right away as the word had not gotten out yet. Great for us! There is a small bar with few stools. Clamshell and table seating. Started with a signature cocktail so I ordered 2. Garlic cheesy bread-I prefer mine a little more well done. Moved on to short rib with garlic mashed. My friend had the short rib with crispy green beans. Short rib was so tender and the mashed was creamy. I ate it all and he enjoyed it so much he went the next day with more people. Dessert was the great ending. The toffee cake was warm and delightful. This is a cute little corner chill spot for the grown folks. I visited on a night with live music. The Chris Miskel Trio was awesome. The experience, setting and food makes this worth a repeat visit. There was an array of choices on the menu. The prices were fair. The wait staff was accommodating without being pushy. The environment was relaxed with well spaced. This is an idea place for a gathering of friends or an end to a date. Parking is in a lot with other businesses, off of a major street, which makes the visit fairly safe and convenient. read more

The restaurant is easy to find in a strip mall and has plenty of parking. The restaurant has a lovely, cozy ambiance. There was only one other table being served when we were there, but the service wasn't very good. Our server took our order and never came to check on us. My brother wanted more water and ultimately asked the bartender who forgot until we asked again. We ordered basic food, burgers and a catfish sandwich. My burger was like a homemade burger, so if you like homemade - this is your spot. I actually prefer burgers more like Portillos, so this wasn't quite my type of spot. My mother liked the catfish and my brother liked his turkey burger. So it's an ok spot, but I probably won't return. read more

My friend and I visited this restaurant one afternoon hoping to have a great brunch but we left feeling very underwhelmed. First of all, I guess I expect them to have a decent selection of wine because of the name and that was not the case. They only had one type of sparkling wine, and it was the cheapest one available. I ordered shrimp and grits. We ordered wings, shrimp and grits, and the lamb chop (medium) & eggs. The shrimp and grits were like warm, and had to be sent back to be reheated. The lamb came out well done. The wings we never received and they had to be taken off of our bill. Although out server was nice, he did not move with any urgency, or acted like he truly cared about our food not being correct. read more

Recently had dinner here with large group of friend/family that was in town for funeral. The waitress was so kind and patience to us as we were a large group. She arranged the tables so we could all sit together. This place is black-owned and I always try to support local small business owned restaurants. The food was Cajun/Southern fare but prepared very well and delicious. You can tell they take pride in their food preparation and felt almost like family dinner at home. The waitress checked on us often to see if we needed anything. I'm happy to say they serviced us all without any issues and very gracious. I will definitely go back to try them for brunch or dinner when I'm back in town. read more

I came in today to order some take out. I order a cocktail while I waited and was greeted by a wonderful bartender by the name of Cherish, her warm welcome and beautiful smile greeting me the moment I walked through the door. As I place my order I also ordered a cocktail when it was one of her specialty and he was fabulous. The conversation, the woman braids wonderful sounding music peaceful environment and do yourself a favor and get over here ASAP. I ordered the hot Honey Cafe or garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, I have not eaten it yet however I plan on enjoying it because it looks and smells wonderful. read more

Had an unfortunate incident where we were informed that a birthday promo being run by the restaurant would not be honored. We had proof that it was still in effect. Took my mom for her birthday because we heard so many good things about the place. I had three senior citizens with me. We were unaware there is a dj on Sundays, and the music was soooo loud, we couldn't have any conversations at the table. We asked to merge 2 tables in an area away from the music and we were told no because it's two tables of four for our party of 6 - huh???? BUT IT WAS NOT CROWDED!! only half the restaurant was occupied and they were all sitting farthest away from the music, leaving the entire seating area of 7-8 tables by the dj empty! But because we were a party of 6 we were forced to sit in the area by the dj. The only compensation was the owner asked the dj to turn down the music, he turned it down only 2 decibels *sigh* We stayed bc the birthday girl wanted to try the food. The food was ok, catfish was the best item we had. I hope the owners understand the key to a successful restaurant is a mix of excellent customer service, accommodations, and ambience combined with great food. Food was ok but the wait staff could be more attentive. We had to call her over because she never checked on us. Apparently we mistakenly went during ladies night! This place acted like the had a dance floor. The music was SO LOUD We couldn't hear any conversations from our dinner companions. Also it is one thing to play music, but you need to be a good DJ! if I could not give them a star I would. let's start off upon entering the facility we were greete. then, we ordered drinks and was told there is no cirock, then we asked for prosEccoand we were told that the specialty drinks are not available only during brunch. It's cool just give me a sweet tea. Smh. Next, we ordered food. I had a side of hot honey shrimp l, broccoli and mash potatoes. My shrimp came out 20 mins after I ordered , my sides took another 20 mins to come so now shrimps are cold. Lastly, my friend also ordered at the time I ordered at 7:19 she was waiting for her food only to find out it was given to someone else who ordered a different meal but said she will take the shrimp. My friend didn't get her food until 8:15 after I asked the waiter what happen to her food????
