Dairy Treat is open for the season! We really enjoyed our treats from here and they were very friendly. I did find some of the signage of all the food items to be a little hard to read through the window (perhaps the font and that the sun was setting but my husband and I both had difficulty). Thankfully, we just asked the workers and they were helpful. My dad got a hot fudge sundae and said it was delicious (and it looked fun too). Opening season for the summer is a tough thing to manage, so I know going to get ice-cream on May 3rd was a crapshoot considering it was a chilly raining day in Michigan! Those were my exact thoughts as I walked in the light rain from our house at 8:30 PM knowing they close at 9 PM. And sure enough as I turned the corner they were closed; I get it. They probably had a handful of customers all day so they closed up shop early. BUT WAIT!!! As I turned around, I saw a white SUV pull up and a guy yelled out; "I told the staff to close early since they only had 5 customers all evening...but if you want some ice-cream I can get you some. I'm the owner!" Sure enough the guy opens up the shop and gets me two serving of our favorite flavors; Butter Pecan and Michigan Pot Hole! Before leaving; he just told me "Its the right thing to do!" I love this place. It's the only ice cream spot around that has gluten-free cones available. A heads up, they only have sorbet as a dairy-free option. I'm lactose intolerant but it was so worth it to get the coffee lovers ice cream. This place is awesome and I would definitely recommend stopping here for a summer treat. read more

We walked from Ray's Drive-In, through the old neighborhood of Grand Haven to the water. I had my eye on Dairy Treat, an unassuming shack selling Hudsonville ice cream, from nearby Holland, MI. I loved it. Girlfriend got a cake batter ice cream sundae, super sweet with chunks of cake. I got a peanut butter cups freezee that almost did me in. I wasn't prepared for the bulk of topping to have settled on the bottom: my experience is that it usually gets whipped up into the top. I muscled my way to the end. read more

Not sure what was going on tonight but service was sub-par and irritating. Second time we have been here and the orders are always wrong I'm not sure why it's so hard to make the orders correctly. We were given half melted ice cream too. Maybe if the employees quit plying around and goofing off in the back the orders would be right and not take forever. I get ice cream here like 3x a week lol. My standard is a vanilla cone with peanut brittle crunch coat. So goooooood. They have such wonderful people working there. Always smiling and friendly. Over the years I have even struck up conversations with the owners. Owner Kim has worked there serving happiness since 1969. She is great people. Dairy Treat rocks! During our stay in Michigan, I think we went here every night. Huge selection with everything you can imagine. Sadly, and I look back at this regrettably, I ordered the same thing every time. Something generic too. Just a twisty cone or whatever you call. But I did enjoy it. Every time. The service is great here, fast and efficient which I find is a necessity for this place as there is a always a crowd. So many things to choose from and I greatly enjoyed coming here every night. I had a hard time deciding on what I wanted, but the girl there was pretty patient waiting for me to make my selection. There was ice cream in the popsicle form, the homemade kind, the frozen yogurt option, sundaes, and more. I went with the blueberry yogurt Hudsonville ice cream in a waffle cone. It reminded me of Michigan, and made me feel less guilty for having a sweet indulgence. Nice ice little ice cream shop on the main drag through Grand Haven. I always make a pit stop here when I walk from the beach to my car, which during the busy summer season, tends to be pretty far away. Typically it's not as busy as the other ice cream shops around and you move through the line pretty quickly. On my most recent trip, I got a mudslide flurry (I think that's what it was called) It was Oreo, coffee ice cream, and chocolate in a cup. Hmmmm, nummy. Only downside is their limited (and often sticky) seating. It would be helpful if they streamlined their window menus as well. The windows are covered with different sized sheets of colored paper, each with a different item they offer. It's sort of fun but kind-of an ADD nightmare to read them all. read more

I only come for the ice cream. The service is a bit annoying. One time after I ordered, a consumer who appeared to be friends with the workers ordered. And she got her ice cream before us. After about 5 mins of waiting after we ordered, we finally got our ice cream and I thought the atrocity that was occurring was done, but no it would never end. As I was eating my ice cream I noticed that there was a hair in it. I then had to throw away my ice cream which wasted my money.
