Such a great place for some really good homemade ice cream! We had the dark chocolate, peanut butter and caramel ice creams. They were all super good and creamy. The service was excellent, the staff was super friendly. Ambiance is great, clean and nice. I learned a little history about this place at the surf shop today. The owner used to work for them and then had the opportunity to buy it. She also bought another shop in town when the owner's children didn't want the business. They make the chocolate for it. Just gotta say before I say anything else, the amount of workers that are always in this location never ceases to amaze me. I walked in and my little brother was already drooling at the smell of the store. Somehow you can smell the ice cream. There is a radius around the store where you can smell it. It's impressive. Maybe the body heat of all the workers creates a special environment that blasts the fumes of the store outdoors. But who knows. My little brother kept saying waffle bowl. His eyes rolled back and he said it again. Waffle bowl. Waffle bowl. Waffle bowl. His eyes were completely turned back and it was like a spirit spoke through him. Cappuccino crunch waffle bowl. I told him that I was going to get a waffle cone, and then he turned around, and then his neck spun on an axis toward me. The lights began flickering and all I could see were the whites of his eyes rolled back. They began to turn red and swell and then he quickly turned around, his neck snapped back and his eyes went down. The lights came back on and the workers were still there asking if we were ready. On the Fourth of July, I couldn't imagine anything more American. They give you one to two napkins and there are napkin holders with more. I grabbed a few. My IQ is 180 so I ate my cappuccino crunch with ease. It dripped on the ground but never onto my hand. Smoothly I licked the cone all the way till it was gone and then took my final crunch. Man that was good. Between a cappuccino and heath candy, this was the fusion I never knew I needed. Like an affogato from the candy shop, but not too sweet. My intelligence often limits me from enjoying simple pleasures, but this scratched the itch for me. I am a world renowned track athlete, and this was my first cheat day in 4 years. To me, Superman ice cream is Michigan summer all the way, so was happy to see this option right next to where the community and visitors were all gathered for the musical fountain show. It's an adorable spot right on the water, beautiful location to grab a cone and walk around a bit. I've only been once, so clearly went with my all time favorite flavor, butter pecan. It's an ice cream place. I'm not really sure how to rate it good or bad. Apparently they make their ice cream fresh on location. Does that include sherbet and sorbet? The banana split was good. The service was fast and friendly and not terribly formal. The location is is good -- right at the waterfront -- the place looks clean and well-kept, and apparently the business sponsors local goings-on, such as the concert going on the day we were there. The worst part is the prices. 8 bucks for a banana split is a bit much, but I guess it's a prime location in a tourist town. And since it wasn't some rundown shack that took too long to get our food to us, we were happy enough. read more

Temptations is a tiny boutique ice cream stand that delivers big on flavor. The shop is located right near downtown Grand Haven on the waterfront. The line was short when I came on Labor Day weekend and we got our ice cream quickly. The younger staff was energetic and very friendly. They have over a dozen flavors of freshly made, delicious ice cream to choose from. Scoops are around $4 each and the taste of each flavor was very good. I enjoyed the cookies and cream and also had a taste of the black cherry. Both had a ton of ingredients and were rich and creamy. We all loved the ice cream and will be back again next time we are in town. Check this place out if you want to cool off with a great view of the water. read more

Driving coast to coast at the leisurely pace of a little more than a month, I made my focus of finds in each town beer and handmade ice cream. And everytime I get a scoop, I try some mysterious flavor and then order coffee ice cream. This place was bumpin'. Older folks and little pukes littered the place and everyone was looking for something sweet. After I made everyone behind me wait patiently while I tried 50 flavors, I settled with coffee. I walked over to the water, found a bench under a tree and took a bite - yummy! This was pretty sweet, I typically like a really strong coffee flavor, but I enjoyed it very much. I was only a quarter through when a bird took a giant dump in my ice cream and about an inch from my face. I thought about getting another one, but the mood was ruined. Anyway, ice cream is good. I'm revising this review to drop a star and seriously contemplated dropping two stars. Why? Starting with the 2018 season, Temptations significantly reduced their scoop size. Scoops are now half the size they used to be. In all fairness, the scoops were ENORMOUS before, but so are the prices. On the one hand I appreciate the calorie reduction and the reduced waste that's likely associated with it, the value just isn't there. The ice cream is as tasty as ever, even if my photos are a little less instagram-worthy now that the scoop sizes are puny. Here's my original review: Sentimentality likely affects this review. But what is an ice cream shop if not a purveyor of delight and happy memories? Every summer for the last several years has been punctuated by banana splits from Temptations. One evening, I remembered my childhood love for banana splits and quietly asked my spouse if he would share one with me instead of us each ordering our traditional waffle cone. And thus began my quest to perfect the banana split. My favorite way to order is vanilla ice cream with strawberry topping, dark decadence ice cream with caramel topping and strawberry ice cream with hot fudge. The staff always patiently accepts my custom order and delivers it just right. The homemade waffle cone at the bottom is as much a treat as the delicious homemade ice cream. I've tried many other flavors at Temptations from cheesecake to coffee toffee to malt chocolate chip. Pick your favorite--they have lots--if you're not up for a banana split. Definitely order it in a waffle cone. Temptations makes those fresh, too. If your cone size includes multiple scoops of ice cream, you can choose as many different flavors as you have scoops (which I recommend). I'm a firm believer that no day is too cold for ice cream--so the first and last 'splits of the season bookend my Michigan summers, which often include as many Saturdays as I can spare in view of the Big Lake. read more

We enjoyed it but later contemplated that we could have bought 2 bryers ice cream boxes for that price. Someone told me that everything is jacked up in a beach town in the summer. This must be it. I'm a complete ice cream freak, and make my own when I have time. I was recently on vacation for a long weekend and was driving along Harbor checking out the shops when I saw Temptations. The sign read "homemade ice cream" and I had to stop - every other store was offering Hudsonville, which I can purchase at my local grocery, and I decided to stop and check them out. I sampled a few flavors before deciding on a small (which is two huge scoops in a waffle cone for $3.85 I believe) - had their toasted coconut and salted caramel. Let me just say this...if you want GREAT ice cream, DO NOT MISS THIS STORE! Pricey? I don't think so. Sure, as another reviewer stated, they could have bought two boxes of Breyers Bars for the cost of two small cones - but it would take the equivalent of 3 or possibly 4 of those bars to equal the amount of ice cream in a single small cone! And there is really no comparison between homemade ice cream and mass produced frozen ice cream bar. And the ice cream...the texture is amazing! Very, very smooth, not too hard but not too soft...velvety and so flavorful! The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars: I was not a huge fan of their waffle cone - just didn't have a lot of flavor to it. But the ice cream...oh I miss it! There is nowhere here in West Bloomfield that makes ice cream like that, and I've been to every ice cream shop I can find in the area. Some are good, some are very good...but NOTHING comes close to this ice cream. If you're in the Grand Haven area, make the trip! read more

One of the first places I took the kids on vacation. I was seriously unimpressed! They make their own ice cream and their own waffle cones and it smelled delicious! When I told the girl what my child wanted she stared at me like I was some crazy person. Then I continued on for all my children, and she still sat there. So my husband ordered a shake and when she looked at him funny he said, oh would you like all the orders at once? She said yes, so I repeated all the orders. Then she got our order wrong. No big deal. The waffle cones were okay, but the salted caramel ice cream was less than desirable. The kids (all but one) enjoyed their chosen flavors (superman and chocolate), the hubby enjoyed his vanilla shake too. The kids did not like the chocolate covered cones with sprinkles so save yourself the trouble and get plain ones. Two stars for customer service and 2/6 of us did not like our ice cream. read more

Comedy of errors in ordering, then the ice cream was not that great to boot. The kid behind the window did not write down our order - there were six of us, thus 6 items to remember. He finally comes back with a raspberry smoothie - which was supposed to be a shake. After repeating our entire order, and waiting for an eternity, he still did not get everything completely right - but it was close enough. And there were no apolgies. My peanut butter cup was disappointing - the PB flavored ice cream was not that great, and there was not enough chocolate or PB cups in it either. Mom's raspberry shake was crazy sweet, and another person's raspberry cheesecake scoop just tasted weird. Yes, unfortunately, our entire experience was colored by the incredibly poor customer service (you'd think that "write down the order" is lesson nr 1 at a place like this, where most groups are four or more people!). You WILL love it here..there ice cream is amazing, and there waffle cones hand made. Last time i checked you could get choclatte covered waffle cones with sprinkles on them. Now that'll serve your sweet tooth. You can eat it by the harbor, but eating inside will be a treat too, sit down at one of the old fashion parlor like table and chairs and be cooled by the air conditiaoning.
