Daiso Japan is the type of store that reminds me why I LOVE SoCal, and why I am already liking my new town of Gardena. The diversity in Gardena is so rich. It's known for its large Japanese and Korean communities, but also many Latinos, Whites, and African Americans live amongst each other. Check out the census info. for Gardena, Hawthorne, Torrance - the diverse groups living here will make you feel like maybe we can all get along. Ok, so back to why I am so in love with Daiso Japan. This store is like an upscale 99 cents store, but with a lot less food stuffs and a lot more cute things. It's decorated in pink, super clean/well-organized, and spacious. The Japanese pop playing keeps you feeling a little silly and cheery. Even though Daiso imports all their products into Japan from China (they're just like us...greeeat), I like that all the packaging is in Japanese because it makes me believe that I'm not buying more cheap crap from China. But really, a lot of the things they sell are a lot cheaper ($wise) than other places like Target so why not go here first? I've gone here on weekday late afternoons and it hasn't been too packed (even lots of parking), but I'm sure the weekends are pure chaos because it's popular with the young/old, Japanese/non-Japanese, families - pretty much anyone who buys anything. They have so many things here! I can't even describe all the crazy and useful things they sell. Everything is $1.50 except a few items. But don't be fooled...be prepared to spend at least $50 here on your first trip cause you will want so many things that your cart will be full before clearing half the store. Also be prepared to spend 1-2 hours on your first trip. I wish they had small carts instead of baskets you wheel around...more room for junk needed! Normally, I love this store. I would tell all of my friends to come to Daiso Gardena, and you'll love it here. But, this particular encounter left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I was looking for a specific item, a yarn, and I flagged down a young lady that looks to be the supervisor, Kaori. She was rude, abrupt and apparently, either didn't have time to listen to me or couldn't understand english. Because, she made me run all over the store for an hour and a half looking for this yarn. This venue is great! I've only been here and other locations about 3 times. I didn't really know what this place was until my girlfriend took me here. It's basically a Japanese market that offers a wide array of products! Think of a Target minus a grocery section. There's so many little items that they have that you don't think you need, but when you see it, you have to buy it! I've purchased small pliers and a spam musubi maker here! Prices are dirt cheap also! They accept credit and debit cards even on small transactions! Just come here and I bet you'll find something to buy even if your just looking around! read more

I was sad when the Marukai dollar store closed down, but ecstatic when Daiso rose up within its ashes. I've been to the one in Japantown SF and knew i could fill my basket full of crap that can come in handy eventually all for $1.50 each. Typically better quality than the stuff you find at the $.99 store too. Between mini screwdrivers and allen wrenches, to lunch tupperware, and all those tools to make your food look like anime characters you can find it here. read more

Kinda like the 99cents store except the base price is $1.50 and some items are marked higher. I like the store because you will see things here that you would never find at other low end retail stores. From small zip lock bags to 5 ft garden stakes! Read the labels, God Bless the translator. A browse through this nifty store is quite entertaining and worth the hour or so it takes to relish in all things Japanese. You will find practically everything you need and everything you don't...items packaged nicely in pretty pastels with cute characters smiling ear to ear, boxed and ready for the ride home or plain and understated in plastic or paper more like an afterthought than anything else. Girls will get a kick out of the cosmetics many of which are terrific buys - though I don't think they're the best products on the market. The housewares section is impressive - if you can't find a container, bowl, glass or utensil here, chances are good you don't need it. There are garden sections as well as clothing, electronics, stationary, novelties, food, cleaning and everything in between sections. Service is no nonsense either - the staff doesn't go out of their way to assist or even offer, but they aren't unfriendly either. Be absolutely sure you want the item because once you leave the store, that's it - it's yours, there are no returns. I get a kick out of how neat the store is - everything is assembled in military perfect rows or stacked on top of one another with perfect precision. Do take note of the expiration date on the food - I have come upon a couple items that have expired. Got friends or family in town? You must take them on a field trip here if not for real purchases, then at least for the good time you'll have looking at and reading the labels. Daiso on my friends! read more

When you find something you like, don't wait til next time to get it because it may not be there when you need it. My husband bought me a cute little milk frother from here for only 1.50. Totally worth the price. I also bought some pre-made pink tissue paper flowers for only 1.50. Whatttt??!!! That's cheaper than buying the tissue paper myself, cutting it and assembling it myself. Sad I came back for a hand mixer and it was gone. They have everything here though. From origami paper, to disposable toilets (yes you read that right!). Check it out! :) read more

I love this place! :) I only wish there was one closer to home. I thought I was coming to the Marukai 98 cent store, but it had turned into a Daiso $1.50 store. The items they carry are much better quality than the poor quality made in china items available at the 99 cent or Dollar Tree stores, especially if you look for items made in Japan or Korea, of which there are a lot of at this store. We spent an hour and a half looking through all the aisles for fun and ended up buying 12 items, only one of which we had in mind to buy before we got there. But we thought, why not, it's only $1.50 and good quality. That's probably the mindset of a lot of people and why they end up buying more than they expect, lol. read more

There are so many different locations of Daiso here in California. There are really big stores, but this one in this location is one of the smaller stores. This is equivalent to a dollar store, but it's asian and it has lots of asian things. It has literally everything you can find from bathroom accessories, room, outdoors, kitchenware, school supplies, etc. It's definitely cuter stuff because it's asian. The prices range, but they keep it fairly cheap. read more

I used to shop this place when it was Murakai. Now it's Daiso. Completely revamped and super orderly. I walked in and was like Whao! Kawaii!!! Pretty damn pink in there, but super clean and you get this feeling of excitement that you are going to find something awesome. Great J-Pop playing over the PA. Walked out of there with a few bento boxes and an absolutely cool fork, spoon and chopstick combo with carrying case. I am in $1.50 (unless otherwise priced) heaven. read more

Technically daiso is a 100yen shop so items should be $1 each but I guess you pay for the shipping and export/import tax because items are $1.50 here. read more

This store is just around the corner from me, so it is quite convenient. Lots of odds and ends, but the most useful so far are the affordable art supplies. Not the high end stuff; you'll still need to go to a larger art store for that, but great for small sketch books, brush pens, etc. There are times that these inexpensive drawing pads and pens are just what I need. Also great for some pet supplies. Fleas combs for $1.50. Much better deal than the ones from pet stores at $6 each. read more

I wish every city has a Daiso. It never cease to amaze me on how they can bring things to us customers with such a solid deal. I recently bought an egg sensor (that shapes like an egg with a cute chicken drawing) that is used to be put inside the boiling pot with the eggs that tells if the yoke of the egg is hard or medium or soft inside. It is an amazing little thing. Although it was a little hard to read while the water is boiling, but it was accurate. For $1.50, it is an amazing little devise. Well, the rest of Daiso's merchandize is all equally as amazing for the same price. It definitely is my frequent visit whenever I am in LA. read more

This has been the first time, I have shopped at any Daiso. This particular locations is very clean and roomy. Most of the stuff they sell here is junk. But I like junk, I may not need but it's cute. I spent $35.00, most things are $1.50. So it adds up. I bought a bunch of ceramic cups and vases, the cashier wrapped them nicely, although there was a big line behind me, who looked like they wanted to kill me. :D read more

I'll admit, I was a little bent when I saw that my Marukai was gone. I had been shopping there around 10 years. But I decided to get some snacks for our Labor Day Road Trip. The grocery section is not nearly as big as the one Marukai had, but it was okay. I got a cute straw hat for my trip, a coloring book and crayons for my daughter, and a few hair accessories too. Most items are $1.50 (FOR NOW). I have no doubt that the prices will rise as more people catch on to this place. Marukai also started off as a $1 store and they were getting crazy in the end. Any-whoo... It looks like a Hello Kitty store, all bright pink. But everything was labeled and easy to find. And the girl at the register was really friendly. You can find just about any little household things that you could think of in this place. Almost everything in this place sells $1.50. Can't complain about the quality in this price and the quality isn't bad at all. My favorite item in this store is the dried cod fish that is really good with beer. I've been looking all over Japanese market for this long time since all markets I've been to stopped importing. I'm glad that I found this store. A better version of the 99 cent store. I first discovered Daiso in SF. They have stuff that ranges $1.50 but there are some $1 items. If an item is not labeled with a price then its $1.50. All items are sales final so inspect your items. Certain stuff are made in Japan while others are from other asian countries. They have alot of neat knick knacks. read more

Awesome Japanese discount store! Most things are only $1.50. As other Yelpers mentioned, there are no returns on anything but the employees will remind you again at check out. They have unique items like a cleaning brush for straws and a Japanese goods section with paper lanterns, fans, etc. This place does get very crowded during the weekends and the checkout line gets long. If you do find something you like, make sure you buy extras...they may not stock the item for a while. read more

I love this Daiso! I took my cousin & brother here and they love it. I can get anything from school supplies to kitchen ware all for a $1.50! Lol, when i get my own place, i will probably buy food containers here and cute bento necessities.
