We were in Hilo waiting in line at Two Ladies Kitchen to purchase strawberry mochi. I glanced across the street, and the Daiso signage caught my eye. Is it the Daiso that originated in Japan? After we got our mochi we crossed the street and entered Daiso. Once we entered the store it confirmed it's Daiso you find in many countries. We walked up and down each aisle. Same merchandise as at home back in San Francisco. We didn't buy anything as we only had carry on luggage. What left a good impression was the Ohana. We were greeted as we entered the store by the cashier at the check out counter. Later I asked where the closest public restroom was. She said there's one in the store. She had an associate unlock the door for me. Granted no tp but I had some. The store was a huge footprint. Small sign outside but big inside. There's a parking lot 1/2 way down the block. read more

I love visiting Daiso across the globe. I was hoping for some exclusive Hawai'i items but there was only a small selection by the entrance end cap. Options were photo card holders, "blind box" stickers, and keychains. I bought a sticker set with a nice and helpful cashier. read more

Shopping in Hilo, Hawaii... It seems to me that mainland Daiso stores carry different merchandise from stores in Hawaii. I just had to look in Hilo to make sure... Now, I can say that I have visited all 4 Daiso stores in Hawaii! Daiso first opened in The 50th State in 2018 in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii. Oahu got 2 more Daiso stores (Young Street and Downtown in Honolulu) before the 4th Daiso Hawaii store opened in Hilo in 2022. This Hilo location is spacious, organized, and clean... like all of the other Daiso Hawaii stores. Follow the price chart to convert yen prices to US dollar prices. The most unusual thing about this particular store is that it's connected to Ben Franklin Crafts. Make sure that merchandise from one store doesn't get carried to the other store. I'm pretty sure that all 4 Daiso Hawaii stores are consistent with each other. Maybe our merchandise gets wiped out faster than mainland stores? I'm just guessing... because I saw LineFriends plushies on the mainland... and later, these plushies were even on sale at a discounted price! Hawaii had none! read more

This place is great to find things you never thought you needed. We stopped by here today since we have an hour until a bakery nearby opened. We got a couple of stuff to bring with us to the beach that we want. This place is located in a share store plaza with a craft store. There are quite a lot of aisles and household items. End of 2023 review (imo): Expect this place to be one of the best affordable places to go to in Hilo (because it is) also one of the best places to get affordable gifts. It is attached to BenFranklin's so, if you are entering from there, consider buying something from BenFranklin's first (you will see a sign to remind you just that). Service: Good, in regards to answering any questions and if you need help finding something; not good, in regards to helping you bag your items at check out. Idk why but the people working there rarely smile lately as well. But I've been noticing that in a few other places in Hilo now-a-days so I get that it cant be a good day for everyone everyday. Going the week when Daiso was new to Hilo, the employees at cashier were friendly say something nice like grant you good day after handing you a receipt. My last few visits were odd because I had to bag my own things, and they did not ask if I had a bag anymore. "Did I do something wrong?" Maybe they only ask if I purchase a Daiso bag? These where my last thoughts from my last visit. Other than that, Selection & value: Variety of goodies, cute things, and affordable gadgets from scrapbooking accessories to affordable curtain rods and kitchen storage containers and more; affordable but not all always a dollar; price legend still seems the same as the first time (yen to US dollar conversion). I was told if there is no price (in yen) on the item then it is just a dollar (not including tax so more likely around $1.75). BUYERS BEWARE!!! Bought a calculator for only $2.25 but no battery included when I got home. Returned to Daiso and no battery available at Daiso (out of stock) so I looked at various stores in Hilo...Ace, Ofc Depot, Walmart, Target, CVS Longs. No such luck. Frustrated. I probably could've bought a fully functioning calculator for the time spent & gas running around town. So I'm negative $2.25+++ since purchases cannot be returned. This was only my 2nd time to visit the Hilo Daiso store. The items in Daiso are cheap in price and some things are of good quality and value. At times you really need to look for the price though because things are printed in Japanese and hard to see the price. Many items are $1.75 cents and you can find Christmas stockings stuffers. Didn't give 5 stars just because need to find where the price is and without glasses hard to find. read more

I will preface by saying I'm glad there is a Daiso on the Big Island. This Daiso is better than no Daiso. However, if you are used to Daiso in Japan, do not expect it to be the same. This store is much smaller, and the pricing is pretty all over the place. In Japan, Daiso items are almost all 100 yen. It's simple to shop, put something in your basket, it's 100 yen. Easy to remember. Here, you have to take a picture of the price schedule and try and figure out every item before you toss it in. If not, you could easily walk out of there spending much more than you may have wanted to. I call it the Costco syndrome ("what the hell did I just spend $200 on?") A lot of items that you would think would or should be cheap, aren't. Curry boxes and Calpis soda cost the same or more than the supermarket. Daiso is a discount store- but lots of items don't appear to be discounted. The store size is very small compared to the other Daisos, but it can only the the size of the building the company chose to rent. They did do a good job of cramming a whole lot of things in that space though. There is a nice selection of just about everything. If you walk down each aisle, you will for sure find plenty of stuff, from useful gadgets and tools, to useless junk you didn't know you needed in your life until now. A trip to Daiso is usually half getting what you went for, and half getting stuff you didn't know you wanted until you got there and looked around. If the pricing wasn't so high, I would see myself going more. However, this isn't the case. I won't make a special trip across the island for it, but if and when I'm in Hilo, I would probably make a quick stop. It sure doesn't hurt them being across the street from Two Ladies Kitchen, which is a guarantee stop when I'm in Hilo. read more

Here for the hype, review for the hype. And because Japan. So if you're from Hawaii (or live in Hawaii) you may know Daiso opened up its fourth store in the islands and not on Oahu this time. Wow, *claps*. I haven't visited any of the locations in Hawaii, or Vegas, or LA, or or or, so I can't compare there but amongst the slew of Daisos haunting Japan this is a bit different. I've only been to Daiso in Japan actually, so this location was obviously smaller and minimal to me. Like every Daiso, the store is organized into categories, but now imagine that downsized. You can cover the entire collection on a lunch break as opposed to getting sucked into the trinket abyss like you do in Japan. Aww. I was missing a lot of cute stuff I stumble into Daisos for, but it didn't bother me because I'll always interrogate myself as to why I even need more shit. Anyway as soon as I entered the store and walked that first aisle where someone knocked a shelf off I realized quick that I didn't need to be there, lol. Since it's so new it was overwhelmingly packed and I was lucky to have even gotten a parking space; maneuvering both outside and inside was difficult. Then I saw pink water weights and stayed... So that's my best tip: maybe you don't want to go during the hype but wait until it's less busy? If you're trying to go while visiting the area it's understandable since there's not a lot going on materialistically. read more

date of incident: 04/26/2025 time: 1:15 pm place: daiso hilo who: assistant manager who refused to give her name what: told me to get out of store with ben franklin craft store shopping cart which had 1 paper bag & 1 cloth bag full of $350 worth of shiigi drug products which i couldn't take back to my boyfriend's restaurant as everyone was looking at merrie monarch parade. upon my trying to re-enter entrance overlooking parade. cop jason kinney intercepted me to tell me not to enter store that he would talk to her. why: daiso store assistant manager & 2 store clerks made sure that i exited store between daiso hilo & ben franklin craft where for first time i saw sign that said " please do no t bring in ben franklin shopping cart into daiso hi" fact: young female assistant manager said that i was a threat to other shoppers & when i told her that i wasn't going to give any money to daiso hilo she said "good" conclusion: i will never set foot in daso hi ever again & will tell everyone that i know what happened to me. ps: i have documentation on my cellphone what my cart looked like along with surroundings. read more
