Let me start by saying, I'm a carnivore. BUT, I'm open to trying all genres of food. Never heard of this place till my cousin (a vegan of 30 plus years) put me on to this spot a few weeks ago. So I've been meaning to try it but I could not get over there. Yesterday was no exception. I even called to place an order and the phone kept ringing for whatever reason. Bet. A few minutes later, I'm still hungry and haven't figured it out yet. My cousin hits me up. I told him I was trying to hit them up and he said he was already waiting on an order he placed, and asked me what I wanted. I looked up the menu and told him to grab me the smoked wrap with avocado, some greens, and an almond malt. He came thru, no almond malt because the machine was down, with everything AND some hot water cornbread. Not only was everything super tasty, I was SATISFIED & FULL. Wanted to grab dinner with a veggie friend and she suggested Daisy's. So glad to see a solid veggie offering in the south suburbs! Best bite goes to the BBQ tips! It was seitan with a great texture down to the char on a few corners. The actual sauce was some of the best I've had in a very long time. I also had the jerk wrap which was very tasty, and had a mild spice flavor that wasn't overwhelming. My friend had the burger and they inhaled it before I could even get a pic. We shared a side of fries that was just okay, but helped immensely by the side of dipping sauce. The food was really good and filling. Star off was for the service, we were helped by a young man who mumbled through the interactions and didn't seem to want to be there. I was caught by a train, said every Chicagoan ever! No seriously, I was caught by a train , the train was at a stand still, I wanted to eventually get home so I decided to turn around. As I was turning around, I saw a sign that said VEGAN CUISINE. Let me tell you how excited that made me. Being a person that doesn't eat meat, it's rare that you find a place that caters to US. I was literally on my way to another restaurant to get a meatless Italian beef and saw this place. So of course I went in... wait. Before I went in, I checked the menu on YELP. I decided I would get the jerk wrap because it looked yummy and I love wraps. So I went inside, noticed all the African inspired art and music and felt a bit at home. As I looked around it felt like I was in a family members kitchen, waiting on them to cook for me. It definitely felt homely. I appreciated all the art and music, it's a nice touch. Everyone I interacted with were kind and gracious. The guy behind the juice bar - his kindness really stood out to me; he was just super kind and respectful to everyone and it was a joy to watch. I had a slight interaction with him when my food was done. He's such a kind soul. So, this restaurant seems popular among locals - so I've noticed - it's a smart choice to CALL your order in. They have a lot of people coming in to order and they don't have a huge staff so you must have patience if you decide not to call your order In - OK? As this being my first time here - I didn't realize I needed to or should call my order in so if and when I go back I will make sure to call ahead. I ordered my food around 7pm - my order was ready around 7:30-7:35pm - so like I said earlier- be patient with them or call your order in. I ordered the jerk wrap, let's just say it's spicy. All jerk is different when it comes to spice so you never know what to expect. But I am telling you this jerk is SPICY. I am happy with what I purchased, it was pretty good. I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu. I can't wait to tell my friends and family about this place. I wish many, many blessings on them and their business. P. The food is delicious. Sometimes the soup is bland, but it's nothing a little salt and pepper can't fix. I give it three stars because of the customer service. I've been a LOYAL customer for about 10 years so this is not a one-time bash, but a deep reflection. On multiple occasions, I've ordered dinner with soup and been given a salad without any notification. I tried to make several catering orders and then left to scramble at the last minute because communication was lacking. When I call, whoever picks up the phone either doesn't know the menu or has an attitude with the questions I'm asking. I've called ahead, waited 45 minutes, and still had to wait 30 minutes to an hour for my food on multiple occasions. There's no reward system. I've spent thousands of dollars here and gotten nothing in return. It's gotten to the point where I don't invite people to the restaurants anymore because of the poor customer service. I work hard for my money and gladly spend a portion of that to eat out every week. But after my last encounter, I will no longer be dining at Daisy's. As a black patron of a black-owned restaurant, I deserve better. read more

I have been here TWICE! Each time I left with no food and a terrible customer service experience. I was so mad because I really wanted to try their food and support this business, plus I live right up the street so I was hoping this could be a regular go to for me. The first time I went they had NOTHING available, only certain meals I wasn't interested in. When I asked what she recommended the lady was impatient and rude. Didn't recommend anything and looked irritated with me, there weren't any customers behind me or anyone waiting. So I didn't understand the irritation, and I wasn't being rude or difficult either. I genuinely just wanted to know what I should order. After the last rude remark I politely took my kids and said we'll come back another day. The second time, it was the same woman. Still rude. Everything I tried to order she said was unavailable. I asked her "well what do you guys have that is available?" She answered and said "keep looking at the menu" with an irritated voice. So you want me to play the guessing game for 15 minutes?! I asked about two more items and after she said those weren't available and that the smoothie bar was closed I just left. She was so rude and mean unprovoked. Looking at the comments on yelp I see that this happens to be a normal thing certain people experience from time to time. I don't know if I did something to her or just caught her on a bad day back to back but I was so sad leaving there, being treated that way and leaving with no food still. I really wanted to support this business. It's crazy because everyone talks about how good the food is and how great the owner is, I don't know if the lady I encountered was the owner but sheesh. They only had one of the items I ordered so I took that since I didn't have time in my lunch hour to get anything else and wasn't even offered a discount on the one item that was ready, No sorry, no explanation just basically an oh well... If you have checked out some of my reviews, you know I love vegan. Good vegan, that is. And Daisy's is the place in the south suburbs for good soul food vegan. I have tried many things and have a few staples that I stick with because they are so good. My absolute favorite item is the kale greens with cornbread. They are amazingly delicious! I also like the Jerusalem gyro and the falafel wrap. Very tasty!! I love their smoothies and detox drinks. They are really good as well. Oh and I can't leave out of there without buying some cookies or peach cobbler. Got to fill my sweet tooth. It's some other things I want to check out as well. For first timers if you can do pass the customer service try it and see for yourself. The lady has a bad attitude and I think she would should be fired! It's not the food, but it's the customer service! Hire someone that wants to work and enjoys the food industry. They are very slow as well. I initially found the cafe by a Google search so it was completely new to me. I bragged to my husband about what I saw on the menu and the photos that were posted. Instead of going in, I placed an order over the phone. I asked for the Jerusalem gyro and the woman told me that it was just a gyro. I was asked if I wanted the combo and I picked regular fries as my side. I also ordered vegan tips as well. She went on to tell me that everything was vegan. I said, "okay thanks for telling me that information." I ordered sweet potatoe fries and ask for forgiveness if pronouncing lentil incorrectly. She said, "lentil tacos", I replied with "yes I'll take that." While on the phone with the lady, she sounded very irritated with me and was repeating everything. She also countered what I asked for. At one point I heard her say seasoned fries so I corrected her and reminded that I would like the regular fries please. She got smart and said the gyro combo comes with regular fries when I clearly heard her say seasoned fries. I asked her if she was okay and if something was wrong. She replied with she had a lot of orders and she just trying to take mine. I said just cancel my order its ok maim. She said ok and hung up. Now understanding where her frustration was coming from, did that give her the right to talk to me the way she was? To take her frustration out on me because I was not ordering fast enough for her? I've been coming here for years and these people know I love them like family. Everything on the menu is good & recently I developed an allergy where I cannot eat everything here like I used to... recently, they hired a lady there. She's light skinned and maybe has freckles with locs & it appears that she doesn't have certain customer service etiquette & shows favor. Every time I interact with her, there's an attitude or the energy is off. As much as I love Daisys, Ms. Daisy, Tsooriel, & the extended family like family, I will not be returning. It's quite uncomfortable to deal with these interactions. I don't like having the anxiety of dealing with ppl like that & having that energy around the food I consume. This is my second horrible experience with the front desk woman. I don't understand what her problem is or if she is not getting paid enough but she is RUDE AND IGNORANT. I ordered some bbq tips... ok.... (Im evening ignoring her smart comments when I called them "wings".) Then I asked her what drinks does she have. "You need to look on the website, i have a lot of people." With a horrible attitude. It takes less than 30 secs to give me a list of drinks. Its common sense/courtesy as a worker. The first time I ordered from here she was a hassle too. I even tipped her $4. She kept telling us 15 mins and we waited there an hour and 10 minutes. She did not care at all. Bad service. I know the bbq tips are great but your front desk people ARE ruining the business. I wouldn't of posted a bad review but this is my second time giving this place a shot and this is how I'm treated. I'm a vegan & my boyfriend is not but he absolutely loves this place as much as I do. The Smoked protein & avocado wrap is my favorite with a lil bit of hot sauce on the side. Can't go wrong with the BBQ tips either. All the employees are sweethearts, very pleasant atmosphere & beautiful restaurant. A total vegan restaurant that provides healthy soul food. ExaBBQ vegan steak, Mac and cheese( an acquired taste), sweet potatoes and greens. This is one of the best places to transition to veganism. Great thing about this place its located on the south suburbs. The staffs are open and friendly. The environment is clean. Great options for raw dishes, deserts, juices, smoothies and soul food entrées. However, it appears that the quality of the food has gone down. I love the location because it's near my fathers home. The hours and time of operations is flaky. There have been on numerous occasions when I arrive there and see a close sign. There's no consistency. I'm thankful to have a vegan restaurant in African Americans dominated community. I want to continue to support their business. I love that they had a small, hole in the wall environment. Daisy's Catering Café is one of those places where you do not have to feel different, just be yourself the background music speaks for itself. They are all polite and humble people to me that was my experience. Now let's talk about their food: I would say the meat texture is excellent and the flavoring is of Caribbean . They also have several vegan options from raw burritos, smoothies, desserts. etc two thumbs up, I have ordered catering food and it was successful Truth be told I am set for their turnip/kale greens and breakfast sausages, give me that I am fed good! Yummy! I am still thinking of those savory breakfast sausages and earthly greens that I had two weeks ago and will get more soon.
