I cannot say enough about how great our day was. Our guide, David had us outfitted and on the river early. Although we are novice he had us on fish almost immediately and had us catching all day long. The full day trip was simply amazing. David was patient and knowledgeable constantly adjusting our flies throughout the day. We learned so much improving our technique with his great instruction. Great staff! We stopped by the shop a couple days before going out with our guide and the staff was both friendly and knowledgeable; helping both our experienced and novice fishermen in the group. A few days later we went on a guided trip with Macy in Spearfish. Being a newbie, she did an excellent job providing instruction and assisting with my first time fly fishing. Our friends had another guide and also had only great things to say. We all learned so much and had a great time! I would strongly encourage the 8hr guide - time flew by. Thanks Macy! read more

What a great shop - what a great guide. On my first ever visit to the Black Hills, Dave took me out for a day of fly fishing that turned out great. He knew the places to go and the right flys for the right times. We had plenty of action, including a beautiful 24" brown. Best of all, he taught me a lot more about the fish, the bugs, the streams - and how and where to put my fly out there. Still bummed they left downtown Rapid but people make a business and these guys are great. I look forward to stopping in several times this summer for some flies and advice. After dinner in Rapid City on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, my husband and I stopped by a closed Dakota Angler just to look in the window and see what kind of shop it might be. As we drove up, a fellow in the car next to us dashed out and to the shop door. We met him at the front door, told him of our intentions, and he invited us in while he was checking on potential guided trips for Monday. He introduced himself as Hans, we had a nice talk about trout angling available in local Rapid Creek, and told him we would be by tomorrow to learn more about hatches and places and buy some of the hot flies. The next day we walked in, found ourselves un-welcomed by a gray-haired clerk outfitting a customer and our presence never recognized through out our time there (about 10 minutes), even though we walked right past the register and the clerk over to the sling pacs, which I was interested in to learn more about for a potential purchase. Looking around and lingering a little longer, with still no recognition or mention of potential future help, even as we heard voices in the back room, we simply left. My husband, who has been a flyfisher for 50 years and has worked in the fly fishing industry for 40 years, 5 years with Orvis, related that this is a persistent problem with many fly shops - many, even though well stocked with goods, display poor customer relations and delegation of duties like what we experienced at Dakota Anger.
