Very nice apartments for the price! If you are looking for a luxury place this is not the place for you. However if you are on a budget, this is the best value in all of grand forks in my opinion. I have been very satisfied with how this property management communicates as well as their flexibility and ability to be accommodating regarding a multitude of factors with my move-in. Moving is one of the highest stressors, but working with Dakota Commercial has made it a good experience. I submitted several maintenance requests upon moving in and the very next day, a worker came to address and resolve my maintenance requests. Two of them ended up being due to the user (myself not knowing how to work the oven and one of the lights), yet they were still very nice and respectful about the situation even though no repairs were needed. I was able to reschedule my move in appointment with no problem due to college classes. I love my new apartment. I would definitely recommend working with them if you are considering it. read more

Too corporate to care. Fixed more things around the apartment myself then the maintenance team did. Does not have an efficient payment portal and relies on a third party program. Has the classic setup of a Washer and Dryer out-of-unit that cost quarters and doesn't dry well. IRET was much friendlier and responsive. Also, don't make my mistake and live above Joe Blacks. They are very dishonest They enter your apt without permission and make up a lame excuse like they were looking for studs. in the lease it states that you get a 24 hour notice which is untrue. the heat goes out every month in the winter. i was out of heat for 4 days while they ripped out my vents and carpet and they ended up calling Vilandres. they enter my apt every month stating they have to check the heat and they make a mess and leave it for me to clean up. I had rusty towels and water all over my carpet. they have inspections and when i had one of many they were selling to new owners and the manager told me not to tell the new owners things that are wrong which shows more dishonesty. if you have an opinion about how things work you better keep it to yourself or youll get evicted. when you do look at an apt through them, make sure it will be the one you will get because they showed me one apt but i ended up with a different one. they also have a history of COCKROACHES WHICH IS SO DISGUSTING. when someone else moved in here they got it ready halfway. they left tape in the bathroom the blinds were put on in a hurry, fell down and broke the tv. Also.. any good reviews you see for them are because they bribe you with free coupons if you leave a good review which is pathetic and shows that they have to bribe you to like the place. i just want people to be careful because i have been here 5 years and if they can evict someone that has been there for that long so watch out!!!!!!!! read more

Rented my apartment at McEnroe from these guys. Initially wasn't bad. I asked them basic questions about the property and found out that the person showing me the property had no idea what she was talking about. She showed me a 3rd story 1 bedroom. I loved it and said I'd take it. I immediately went down to put my deposit on the unit. Come to find out, it was spoken for and had been for just over a week.. so, I settled for a 2nd floor unit. I asked how the noise level was from above and the sides (coming from the verge which was terrible). She told me that the units are really good quality and I shouldn't hear anyone. Well, I moved in and quickly found out that she was wrong again.. I could hear the people next to me having a conversation at normal volume and the people above me had a dog. I could HEAR the dog walking. I've never had that issue. Heavy footsteps from people but not dogs. Fast forward to me living there. During my move in they never told me about assigned parking. The numbers were extremely faded and because you could barely see them, I figured they weren't used. Well, I was towed. I brought all this up and they didn't care. Come to find out, they had zero signs up and have been illegally towing people. This is after the city had warned them multiple times. After bringing this to their attention they got mad at me for bringing it up and sent an email telling me I had bad character. I did get my towing fees back however. The property is now managed by IMM. Be very very cautious doing business with Dakota commercial. They are extremely dishonest and could care less about you. read more

I live in McEnroe 1. Positives: the apartment looked nice and clean upon move in. Maintenance is quick at fixing issues in apartment. It's within biking distance of UND Negatives: management does not care about their tenants. They offered us a misleading promotion at lease sign. The rent went up and Internet/cable went up despite them having countless open apartments and Grand Forks being a renters market. Our lease says we get two parking spots yet we only have one. You don't get much for the lease. Other apartments in the area offer way more for the same prices, such as dog parks, pools, or fitness centers. Besides your individual apartment, there is nothing else. The elevator was broken once for almost a month. My roommate had a broken kneecap and called countless times to get the elevator fixed but they didn't fix it until we complained to the city. One time they cut off our bike locks and locked our bikes in a maintenance closet and when we called them about it, it took them over 2 weeks to give them back. read more

I rent through Dakota Commercial and live in the University Flats apartments. The apartment complex is always super clean in the hallways, and the parking lot is almost always plowed in the winter. I have lived in Dakota commercial properties for quite a few years now and any issue that I have come up with have always been addressed with professionalism. Living here has been such a treat for the Fall 2018 semester. The staff are warm and welcoming and the residents are even more so. They are always hosting new events, such as tailgates for the Vikings game or Donuts and Coffee, to create chemistry and connections among the residents. Pros: location and cleanliness. The we lived in McEnroe apartments and they looked clean and well maintained. It was only a 3 min drive to campus as long as there wasn't a train. Cons: management. Much like the other review said, we were lured in with a great rent price as well as other perks only to be told that they would increase the next year. We signed another year anyway and when our lease was up they said our rent would increase a third year. Also almost "forgot" to give me my referral money when I had a friend sign a lease with them. Also double charged us on rent more than once. Seems like a good operation on the outside but there are a lot of problems with management. read more

If I were anybody I would not rent here. They have the right to break the lease but you do not apparently. And when you beg to stay at a place and they say no that's pretty sad. They say they work with you that's not true. The heat goes out every month and if you live in my apartment they will be entering your apartment every single month. They were here for 4 days one time and ripped my apartment apart and never fixed it and the heat was never fixed after that they end up calling someone to fix it every month even though they enter my apartment to see if it's working every single month. They also have had a history of cockroaches which is disgusting. And I also have pictures of all the damages that he did to my apartment so if they think they're going to keep my deposit they have another thing coming I'm just saying warning about this place I would really think twice before you enter this place. The hallways are well taken care of and I love that we have a heated garage to keep my car warm in the winter months. I also love that we have our own washer and dryer in the unit. I live at the University Flats downtown. I will start with the pros. The staff is very responsive and friendly to requests/maintenance. I do thoroughly enjoy the underground garages that are heated during the winter time. The apartments are nice and relatively quiet (neighbors permitting). My experience here has been overall good so far. Cons: Heating the place can be somewhat of a losing battle in the common area. Room thermostats are very responsive to the dial. However, small heating ducts in the living room/ kitchen simply cannot keep up with the space, which is probably related to my next point. Drafty windows and the sliding doors will rage war with your heating bill, and win. The cold air billows off the windows and for a place so new in such a cold location, large windows should be a little more reinforced for the anticipated temperatures. They are extremely drafty and in anything below 20 degrees (common in grand forks), covered in water/built up ice. Where there is moisture gathering, mold and mildew follow in its footsteps. We noticed the frost/ice not only happened on the windows but appeared to be coming from cracks near the window/wall. The pictures speak for themselves. We have been taking care of the mold/water/ice that have gathered on the windows themselves (not pictured). I have lived in older, cheaper places and have never had such a problem with moisture; The sliding door frame (pictured) is full of water, now turned to ice (inside the apartment). We have contacted maintenance, but was dismissed as some condensation and mildew is considered 'normal' in these weather conditions. Beings the place has an AC unit rather than central air, the rooms can be pretty toasty during the summer months. That goes for any place trying to cool a large space with walls in between. As mentioned there is no recycling bins for the U flats. Overall a positive experience with only a few grievances. read more

Miscommunication between property managers and supervisors with a situation my roommate and I had regarding noisy neighbors. We were shown an apartment and were told it came with a garage. Dakota said that in order to get the unit we had to apply on-line quickly. After applying and paying the deposit, we were called to tell us that it did not come with the garage. They had another apartment that did have a garage. we got there to fine much less appealing apartment in a flood zone that had covered parking. Now it will take three to four days to get the deposit back because the person that did the returns left for the day. It would appear that Dakota uses the old bait and switch scam. read more

Staying at Dakota Commercial has been fine for me and has been much more relaxing than dealing with on-campus housing at UND. Would recommend to make the switch when you can. The management has been friendly and accommodating for our different needs. Maintenance has also been helpful at our apartment for any problems that we've had. I've rented with Dakota Commercial before but the building I lived in before didn't match up to the one me and my other flat mates live at now. There are definitely more amenities at University Flats than West Side Apartments. Then again there was a different group of living in both buildings it seems like. Overall I liked my time at West Side Apartments better than I have at University Flats, but the brighter side is that if you ever want to go for a run in North Dakota there's a treadmill you can use during the winter time at University Flats. read more

The apartments are reasonably priced and campus place is right next to UND and just across the street from the aerospace building. Their maintenance personal responded very quickly when we needed them and their snow removal is always timely. They always had lease specials when I signed each year lease which helped with the overall rent and covered the internet bill each month. read more
