I travel through Whiteville a lot and had seen the 3.3 rating and was hesitant to stop, but I'm glad I did today. Everything was excellent food and service. Friendly staff could not have been nicer. Me and my family stopped at this restaurant on our way to the beach. The parking lot was extremely full so we decided to give it a try. Upon entering, the restaurant it looked a little old and out of date. Our food was mediocre at best. It arrived cold. The portion size was extremely small for the price. I was visiting family, we had a very large group, and they were able to accommodate us and were very friendly. While I was skeptical of the idea of seafood in Whiteville, it was ok. I got the fish and shrimp and decided to try the little deviled crab. The portions are big which is good, but my biggest complaint is that they do not clean the shrimp. What is the point of having a huge amount of shrimp if they all have the vein going down the back. I couldn't even look at it, let alone eat it, so the shrimp was just wasted, I tried the deviled crab and it wasn't that great so I didn't really eat it. Made a special trip to Dale's to meet some of my family who were vacationing in Myrtle Beach. I had eaten at Dale's several occasions and bragged how good Dale's Seafood was so they agreed to meet us their. We arrived and were greeted and seated by Lilly who would be our server. She was very friendly and did a great job of waiting on us. Unfortunately, the food was very slow coming out of the kitchen so she made several trips back to our table to apologize for it taking so long. She kept our drinks filled and brought more hushpuppies for snacking. When the food did arrive we immediately had to return my wife's broiled scallop plate. I would have been embarrassed to bring that plate to the table. It was literally burned. Even the metal/stainless steel plate was black. My son ordered a flounder plate with French fries and no slaw but it came out with baked potato but he chose not to ask for the French fries. I ordered oyster stew as an appetizer but it came only just a minute or two ahead of my regular plate of regular seafood. Lilly came to me and apologized it was taking so long to get my appetizer out. My regular seafood plate was cold but I chose not to ask for it to be taken back. I rarely write reviews all of us drove over an hour to reach your restaurant after I had bragged about how great it was. Again, Lilly is to be commended for the service she gave us and she even tried to take the blame for the food coming out so slow but it was obvious to us that the issues were back in the kitchen. I remember going to a place like this with my grandparents and back then they called it "The Lord's Waiting Room!" Literally everyone eating at this place at 55+ and the food is just nasty. Will not be going back to the Dale's Seafood in Whiteville NC, Lake Waccamaw. The past 3 times have not been great.. I Ordered 2 to go plates. 1st plate was flounder & shrimp plate, the flounder was overcooked way to crunchy, shrimp was more crunchy batter than shrimp. 2nd plate was shrimp & scallops. Shrimp was crunchy and more crunchy batter than shrimp and the scallops, all of 10 small were chewey and greasy. I will drive to Lake Waccamaw or Lori's from now on. read more

Nothing on my plate was 'bland'! Good lord everything was perfect. I chose four, for the platter. Thick piece of fish, the deviled crab was obviously made fresh. We were back in town visiting family for the holidays and had to visit a restaurant we enjoyed most of our lives. My wife and I grew up in the area so you could call this comfort food for us. I recently visited Whiteville for business, decided on Dale's for my lunch and couldn't have been more pleased. The service was incredible it was like you were family even though I was from another state. The environment was clean and inviting and the food was phenomenal. Staying one night at a nearby hotel ventured out to hopefully find something to eat other than fast food which is plentiful along this road. If you continue just a bit more you'll run into Dales. Simple atmosphere, local /family place. Friendly staff. Lots of seafood - oysters seemed popular as people were throwing the shells in plastic tubs on the floor near there table as they ate. They had choices from the land as well- burgers , steaks and a decent salad bar that was fresh. No alcohol though. There is no seasoning to their food or their sides. This branch caters to the older crowd, as you will see a lot of blue hairs. The server was barely attentive and the food extremely bland. The food had very little flavor. I had the charbroiled shrimp with lemon pepper sauce, but I still had to sprinkle salt on it. The shrimp were tiny.
