Disappointed. We had family from out of town. They wanted to try this place. We had never been. The parking lot is always full so my assumption was that is was good. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Fried chicken was served to me burnt and dry. Greens were bland. Everyone at the table had a complaint except my husband that ordered the reuban. Service was excellent though. Really good vegetable plate. The place is decorated for Christmas with a beautiful Christmas village by the front door, which is a tradition at Dales. Fun to see. The corn bread and rolls were very good. Overall a very good experience and would recommend. Did not try meat as we are vegan, so I can't vouch for that. read more

I come to Dale's quite a bit since it is so close to my office. I have never had a bad meal here. I love their Chicken Fried Steak and the turnip greens (available on Thursdays). My wife and I, along with our 3-year-old grandson stopped in for lunch today. I had eaten there 4 - 5 years ago and remember it as a very good meat n' three type of place. If you are from out of town, and particularly if you are not a Southerner, keep in mind that, for lunch at least, it is what it is. The service was adequate and the prices were in line with other restaurants of the same type. Unfortunately we had slow food service time so when we finally got our meals we were full from waiting after eating rolls and a appetizer of corn nuggets. If you think this is " Down Home" cooking you must have grown up in a home that didn't know how to cook very well. My Wife and I had one of the worst meals I can remember in a very long time a couple of Weeks ago. The broccoli casserole was hot on the side and cold in the middle like it had been microwaved and out catfish plates were absolutely horrible. The fish was over fried and did not taste good at all. At a cost of $15 a plate for a catfish dinner I expected so much more. I used to eat at Dale's frequently about ten years ago but it wasn't anywhere close to what I remember. Such a shame. My husband and I came to Dale's for the first time on a Friday night after work. This place is phenomenal!! The food was fantastic!! The food is down home cooking and it was sooo good. Our waitress was Amy who is wonderful and gave us wonderful service and had a beautiful smile, made us feel like we were at her house eating dinner. Made us feel very welcome. Amy told us to come back soon which we did, the very next night! Amy wasn't working but Kayla was our server this evening and again she made us feel just as warm and welcomed to Dales just like Amy!! Some of the best foods I have ever ate came from Dales, and I admired the picture of Mrs. George Bush and Dale proudly displayed on his restaurant wall, myself being a disabled Vietnam Veteran decided to celebrate veterans day by taking my family and friends for lunch on veterans day. When we were seated and the waitress brought the menu to our table I asked her if they were participating in Veterans Day restaurant discount Program , and she said they were not. I'm only 10 years old and I know we may not go there again . We went my brothers chicken was cold 3 times and the third time the manager brought the food we were told that he would talk to is and tell us why it was cold. He didn't even talk. My mom and step dad ordered a medium rare steak and it was over cooked and cold the other one was raw . My cat fish was cold and raw. They gave us some free chocolate pie. The pie was the best thing that we at there that night . The lady said that she worked there for 13 years but she couldn't get our order right for any thing . If you are ever near Stateline Road and you have a serious hankering for country home cooking, stop at the pink restaurant called Dale's. My best friend's family introduced me to Dale's years ago. They have daily meat and 3 specials and daily special veggie. My favorite meat is Chicken Fried Chicken (it's a crispy fried boneless chicken breast with white gravy on top). They have great veggies that are not canned and made fresh daily. Veggies include selections like mac and cheese, boiled cabbage, fried okra, candied yams, purple hull peas, mashed potatoes, cinnamon apples, coleslaw , baked squash, broccoli and cheese, and cream style corn. The meats offered include meatloaf, fried chicken, fried catfish, grilled catfish, chicken and dressing, chicken and dumplings, and hamburger steak. You can either get a meat and and 3 or a veggie plate. The prices go up slightly from lunch to dinner. It goes up from 5.99 to 6.79. The veggie choices on the weekends also vary slightly. Still, it's good and cheap. If you have any room for dessert, i would recommend the banana pudding or a piece of pie (coconut). Dale's can get busy so I recommend going to eat earlier than prime lunch and dinner times. It's not a chain and they have been in business for a while. So even if they are busy, Dale's will bring the grub out pretty fast. If you are not from the South and want to experience some good Southern style food, this is the place to go, ya'll. read more

Awesome family atmosphere! The staff at Dales was celebrating their 50th and the place was packed at 8p. I received a warm southern greeting and was sat down at a booth. Since I hadn't been to Dales before, my server suggested I try the fried chicken ("It's really good!" she gushed) or the chicken with dressing. I said I hadn't heard of dressing and I'd try that--it was shredded chicken with stuffing and a delicious mess of yellow gravy over the top. Pretty darn good for $5.99! My server ("I ain't no 'server, honey," she purred, "I'm a waitress!") explained that it was a "meat 'n three," and so I could choose 3 vegetables (sides). I almost laughed when she suggested the Mac 'n cheese as a "vegetable." But she was excellent and so I tried it. The Mac was not very tasty but I loved the corn (creamed, yummy). I also liked the corn muffin. My chicken was very good , but could have been served hot rather than warm. All in all-- a good experience and good food in an awesome spot with great staff. We had a new server for our table which obviously needed help in which she wasn't receiving! It took an hour and a half to get our food, they blamed it on the kitchen running out of okra. Why not just come and ask us if we want something else other than okra instead of having us wait that long for the entire party of 9s food? 3 tables were sat after us, waited on, and left before we ever even received our food! Not only was my dressing and mashed potatoes cold, my cousins finances steak was extremely thin and overcooked we still had to wait on the okra and my cousin bit into his fish and spit out a sequin! I asked for a manager and it took almost 10 mins for her to arrive and when she did she she did everything but openly accuse us of putting it in the food! She finally offered to have the food remade and after another 30 mins it finally arrived in which everyone else was finished eating so he ended up having to just have it boxed up to take home. Not only did our family use to own a bar and grill for several years, all of us but 1 have worked in and or managed in the restaurant business for several years since then so we understand problems that happen in the kitchen but this experience was completely unacceptable and should not have gone unnoticed by management and it was definately unprofessional of her to speak to us the way she did about the issue with the sequins. If you don't know how to speak to customers then you shouldn't be in management!! After tonight I definately don't plan on returning to Dales! read more

This is a great place to go for true southern home cooking. This place is truly one of a kind. We had the pleasure to be waited on by a loyal 20 year waitress of Dales, named Stacey. The food was excellent and served with a smile. I will be going back and recommending Dales to all of my friends. We were in town on our way to visit family and read reviews and thought we ought to try it. WOW....let's just put it this way. The food and staff was so great that we purposely came back on our way back home just to stop a 2nd time. Their country fried chicken is so flavorful, moist and overall amazing. The sides are delicious as well. The cabbage is seasoned so wonderfully....subtle but flavorful. The mac and cheese, perfect! It wasn't too cheese...just right and not at all greasy as some can be. The service was supurb. It had a very family feel and although we were not locals, the 2nd time we came back a couple of days later, we saw our waitress and she had a big smile and welcomed us back. We had a different server the 2nd time who was just as attentive and friendly. Amazing food, incredible service, clean and comfortable atmosphere at very reasonable prices. Wonderful Southern style food restaurant. Highly recommend it if you want a great vegetable plate with cornbread and iced tea. We were visiting in MS and flying in and out of Memphis and ate there both times we passed by Southaven! Between us on our 2 visits, my husband and I have tried the fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and the meatloaf. All were very good, but the Southern style vegetables and cornbread will have me returning whenever I pass by there again. On our first visit the server was below par, but our server on the second visit was really on top of things. So I'd say the service was average. read more

I like Dales, but over the yrs their food has started to diminish in quality. I've noticed this, especially with their burgers and steaks. Almost every time that I go there and order a steak, it's like rubber and I can't eat it. Horrible, horrible, horrible. We waited an hour and thirty minutes for our dinner. They blamed the fact the kitchen was out of fresh okra. When the food finally arrived, my 8 oz ribeye was thin and very overcooked. My fiancé cut into his catfish and found a sequin from someone's clothing. Our server called the manager over who proceeded to tell us that she was confused about how the sequin got in his food because none of her kitchen staff were permitted to wear sequins?!! (Note: Ma'am...we certainly didn't put the sequin in the fish that we waited an hour and thirty for!) She finally offered to get my fiancé a new plate of fish...which didn't arrive until 30 minutes later...so we had to take it home in a box because everyone else in our party had finished. This dining experience was ridiculous. They should have cut the bill in half at the very least. I used to work in food service...this was substandard and completely unacceptable. read more

Took my office staff to lunch today and it was some of the worst food I have ever had there. (I have been a customer of yours since it was a drive up dairy bar.) I had the Polish sausage with kraut (the sausage had NO flavor at all tasted very cheap quality) the kraut (was so dry and without any kraut seasonings again very cheap product) . The mashed potatoes tasted like instant ones. The pinto beans were caned and reheated without any seasoning. The Apples had no seasoning on them. (all of these dishes I have had numerous times before and this was not Dale's quality food at all. Easily tell much cheaper products!!!! The other foods were just as bad. The broccoli with cheese had cheese wiz on it!!! Just gross. The side order of kraut was too dry so the cook added vinegar totally uneatable. The hamburger steak was made with some mystery meat tasted like dog food compressed. I am a good cook and I know quaintly food... that was not it!!! If you going to cheap food I won't be back...I had rather pay more for good quality food than what we got today. PS. one of your staff argued with me about the food. NOT GOOD read more

We have eaten at Dale's in the past and the food and service have been great. Unfortunately, we took someone on Sunday to try it and we were extremely disappointed. Arrived at 2, seated at 2:15, food arrived at table at 3:20. After looking for our server we were told there was a problem finding a thigh (fried chicken). You should come tell someone if there is a problem. We ended up getting our food to go, not hungry any more and part of the food was cold. Asked for a manager..he half way listened..did not apologize..really did not say much. Gave a small discount on the bill, but he never came back. Asked the server if she understood why we were unhappy..she shruged her shoulders and we explained over an hour to get food was not acceptable. Her response.."OK" I understand you can have a bad day, but it is how you handle a situation that will keep a customer coming back. It doesn't cost a thing to say you are sorry. read more
