I found an abundance of different wildlife out and about at Lynndale Park this morning, arrived…read moreabout 7:07 a.m. on Thursday 25 May 2023, and the sun was shining and warm. After missing one of the parking areas, I turned up the road by a sign along the street for the park. Just up the road and to the right is a small parking area abutting a paved area with basketball hoops and benches, a small red restroom building, a skate park, and a playground. Mine was the only car in the parking lot both when I arrived and when I left. Up the hills by the skate park is a trail into the woods. On a stump just in the trees was a chickaree (North American red squirrel). In addition to the first red squirrel, I heard others calling from the trees as I walked. The trees along the trails are tall and provided protection from the rays of the sun. Shade cast on the ground was cool. Along the trails were different flowers in bloom and ripening salmonberries. In my approximately half an hour at the park, I encountered vocal sparrows, a rufous-sided towhee, a bunny rabbit, a gray squirrel, and foraging woodpeckers. All around an enjoyable morning adventure.

The North Lynnwood Park is a good park. There's a lot to like about this park. My two biggest problems with it though are parking and drainage. There are maybe a dozen parking spaces for the park and the parking lot itself is relatively narrow. So what that means is on a nice day there's a good chance that you'll get there and there won't be any parking available and turning around will be problematic. There is residential parking on the backside of the park, but it can be hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the area. You're better off parking at the elementary school down the street and walking over, rather than trying to find the side-street parking. The draining problem is my biggest problem with the park. There is a large grassy field, which is perfect for running around and different "ball" sports; however, the park definitely holds onto all recent moisture for far too long. I've been to the park a number of times 3+ days after it's rained, when temperatures have been well over 70+ degrees and our feet end up getting soaked through our shoes if we spend too much time in the grass - there's also a chance of "slippage" as well if running through it too. The covered picnic areas are spacious, though both are in a "dark" area and look a little bit dirty. Because of the drainage problems, there sometimes are puddles, with what looks like oil (?) deposits in it as well - so we've had to keep children away from those a number of times. The play area is nice - there are two sets of swing sets and a small and large slide. I feel like the play area could be bigger, due to the size of the park and the population of Lynnwood, but it's not bad. There is also a small sprinkler area with a handful of sprinklers for children on a hot day. All-in-all, it's not a bad park to check out, but it definitely has its flaws.

It gets quite busy on a nice day. There are also ferries going by in the distance. If you go past the marina, there's an ice cream shop near by as well as several restaurants, and of course a little further is downtown Edmonds. There is a play area for the small kids along the path to the beach with picnic tables in the grassy area. If you have a stroller, there's a paved pathway to give easy access to the bench. There's a sandy area that can be used for volleyball - just bring a net and set it up! The dog park also provides a space for those with pets. There were sea lions when I visited, so that was pretty exciting! Small parking lot, but lots of street parking on Admiral Way.

The park has a modest children's play area, a sandy beach portion, beach areas that have rocks/sand mixture (i.e. not ideal for barefoot), logs, grass areas, and a few picnic tables. The views are wonderful towards the Puget Sound and the Olympics. The children's play area has seen better days. The photo on the official website is more inviting and wider than the current set-up. A sign says it is for ages 2-5 and 5-12. Less than 10 seems more appropriate. On a sunny day, families have set up tents and are ready for a barbecue. Others simply have chairs to enjoy the Puget Sound breeze and the sun. The small parking lot is shared with the dog park, so parking can be challenging. Alternate, farther parking is available. So, why 4 stars instead of 3? Because this park is the south end of a very pleasant waterfront walk. The trick is finding the connections. From this beach park, look for the sign that says Port of Edmonds Promenade. It is a nifty walk that takes me through the shipyard, seeing the boats being lifted out of the water for cleaning or whatever, to the back of Anthony's, Arnie's, the fishing pier, before arriving at the Brackett's Landing. This walk is one of my favorite waterfront walks with varied views. The total time one way is about 20 minutes without stopping. FYI: The boundaries of the Marina Beach Park does not include the fishing pier or the dog park or Brackett's Landing. Therefore, some of the photos posted for this park is not accurate.

There is parking on both 196th Street SW and the short Wilcox Park/Veterans Way Drive on the backside of the park. I enjoy the row of American flags flying high on the front side of the park. It is both patriotic and makes the park easy to identify from the road when driving past. Sanitation wasn't a problem when I visited and the park was well taken care of. There is also a restroom building with running water.

It gets sooo dang gorgeous here It's a perfect place to swim. Seattle is freakin cold man even in the peak of summer, but this gem here folks is one of the few places I can bare to get my butt in. This park is a perfect example of why I moved here from California. It is SO close to such a busy place yet, when your out here it feels soo far away. I take my kayak here every once in a while so I have to have a Discovery Park Pass to park in the boat launch area. It feels super VIP over there, easy to get in, not a lot of traffic and sometimes locals around that are willing to help me carry my kayak out to the water. The water is so calm I launch an anchor and relax out there, the sounds of the road are nonexistent and you can just feel like your in the middle of nowhere. I feel safe swimming knowing there aren't any scary sharks out there that'll nibble my toes, just farmed fish, fisherman have a blast catching. I like to kayak around the entire perimeter checking out all the beautiful lake houses... there are amazing weeping willows that fall into the water... fields of water lilies...and more surprised each time! My dream here is to get the community to help clean this place up a little, I pick up trash sometimes when I'm out there, but a deeper clean can be made behind some of the fishing docks... other than that.. The park…read moreis not well maintained, benches and tables are aged out, grass is long with a lot of garbage in the surrounding shrubs (also not well maintained) as well as along the waterline. People clearly have been squatting i the more dense shrubs, leading to nests of garbage. For what i'm sure were practical reasons, the garbage cans have been reduced, so there are bags of dog crap everywhere. The "toys" on the west end of the park are partially dismantled and useless.
