I found an abundance of different wildlife out and about at Lynndale Park this morning, arrived…read moreabout 7:07 a.m. on Thursday 25 May 2023, and the sun was shining and warm. After missing one of the parking areas, I turned up the road by a sign along the street for the park. Just up the road and to the right is a small parking area abutting a paved area with basketball hoops and benches, a small red restroom building, a skate park, and a playground. Mine was the only car in the parking lot both when I arrived and when I left. Up the hills by the skate park is a trail into the woods. On a stump just in the trees was a chickaree (North American red squirrel). In addition to the first red squirrel, I heard others calling from the trees as I walked. The trees along the trails are tall and provided protection from the rays of the sun. Shade cast on the ground was cool. Along the trails were different flowers in bloom and ripening salmonberries. In my approximately half an hour at the park, I encountered vocal sparrows, a rufous-sided towhee, a bunny rabbit, a gray squirrel, and foraging woodpeckers. All around an enjoyable morning adventure.

When my mom and I visited the John Bush Play Area in mid-September 2020 the playground was taped…read moreoff and a sign was posted saying the play area would remain closed until Phase 3 of re-opening following the COVID-19 outbreak. The playground is very nice, boasting a wood chip floor and containing unique play structures for children resembling a cross between a watchtower and a tree house with a slide attached. The play area is easily accessible via foot, vehicle, or other road-traversable means. A bike rack is located on the side of the play area closest to the Town of Woodway Town Hall. There are both swings for very little ones and ones big enough for adults. Nice if you want to swing next to your young one, or on your own, and are an adult. A picnic table on a grassy patch is located between the wood chip-floored play area and the road. Overall a very beautiful small play area tucked away in the tall trees of Woodway.

Such a great little beach park!! It's only accessible by hiking down to it (a little more than a…read moremile one way) but so worth it. It's a beautiful little spot that seems secluded/private. The hike has some decent incline on the way back to your car, so bring your water! The trail itself is pretty shaded so it can be chilly. Dog friendly! Limited parking so be ready for a little wait. Picnic tables were available for sharing meals and placing our bags/items as we watched the children play, discover, explore. The parking lot is tiny and easily, quickly gets backed up, so pack lightly and park on a neighboring street.

The North Lynnwood Park is a good park. It's spacious, has a playground, basketball court, open…read morefield, a small pavement track/trail around the perimeter, a half dozen benches, and two covered picnic areas that you can rent. There's a lot to like about this park. My two biggest problems with it though are parking and drainage. There are maybe a dozen parking spaces for the park and the parking lot itself is relatively narrow. So what that means is on a nice day there's a good chance that you'll get there and there won't be any parking available and turning around will be problematic. There is residential parking on the backside of the park, but it can be hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the area. You're better off parking at the elementary school down the street and walking over, rather than trying to find the side-street parking. The draining problem is my biggest problem with the park. There is a large grassy field, which is perfect for running around and different "ball" sports; however, the park definitely holds onto all recent moisture for far too long. I've been to the park a number of times 3+ days after it's rained, when temperatures have been well over 70+ degrees and our feet end up getting soaked through our shoes if we spend too much time in the grass - there's also a chance of "slippage" as well if running through it too. The covered picnic areas are spacious, though both are in a "dark" area and look a little bit dirty. Because of the drainage problems, there sometimes are puddles, with what looks like oil (?) deposits in it as well - so we've had to keep children away from those a number of times. The play area is nice - there are two sets of swing sets and a small and large slide. I feel like the play area could be bigger, due to the size of the park and the population of Lynnwood, but it's not bad. There is also a small sprinkler area with a handful of sprinklers for children on a hot day. All-in-all, it's not a bad park to check out, but it definitely has its flaws.

The large grassy field on 196th Street SW is prefect for if you want space to be active and run around or play a recreation field sport that doesn't take up too much space. There is parking on both 196th Street SW and the short Wilcox Park/Veterans Way Drive on the backside of the park. I enjoy the row of American flags flying high on the front side of the park. It is both patriotic and makes the park easy to identify from the road when driving past. Sanitation wasn't a problem when I visited and the park was well taken care of. There is also a restroom building with running water.
