What a fun day at the Dallas Zoo. We purchased a zoo membership a few months ago. As a part of the members they offer members only events. This morning was one of those special days. When they sent out the member email 6 weeks ago, I selected my tickets & parking. I'm so glad I did!! When my friend tried to get tickets earlier this week it was sold out. The zoo staff did a great job setting up drinks and snacks for members snd staffing each exhibit with knowledgeable docents. Whether the docent was 18 years old or 80, they were well versed in the animals, species and habitat. Our visit was 8-11am. We noticed how lovely it was to have shade froth over so many of the walking trails. A definite plus in Texas on those hot days. Parking was so easy since we planned ahead when we got our tickets. The lights at the Dallas Zoo wasn't what I was expecting. They blocked off the safari area and the lights were in only one section of the zoo. You can walk the entire area in 45 mins. I do appreciate that they had Santa, food options and great places to take photos but I wouldn't recommend here to see chie Christmas lights for the cost. You can only see a few nocturnal animals but the majority of them are sleeping. There are plenty of parking areas which is nice. Overall I recommend going to Grapevine if you want to have a nice christmas lights experience with your family. read more

While the exhibits were mostly the older style/minimal enrichment features... you can quickly tell that the staff & volunteers all care deeply about the animals, & are therefore perpetually upgrading the exhibits. Scooters are avail to make more accessible, & I did note the scooters (that u rent, on first come first serve availability) do have a nice awning over them. My host & I thoroughly enjoyed leisurely walking thru the many open air as well as bldg enclosed exhibits. Bathrooms, drinks & helpful staff/volunteers never seemed too far away. I think the rhino exhibit was my fav... as we got to hear a presentation on them. We love the Dallas Zoo! Great for local families or vacationers alike. Wide variety of animals and tons of programs and shows throughout the day where you can learn fun facts about wildlife. Takes about 4 hours to get through or fun to hangout for the day. Facilities are clean, meals at the restaurants have great portions to share with LOs and they have more than a few spots where they offer A/C where you can take a break from the Texas heat. This zoo is amazing! I had a wonderful time visiting the animals and going on the merry go round. I was visiting Dallas and my kids and grandkids were able to feed a giraffe. That was so much fun. I don't know who enjoyed it more! The animal exhibits are really open and it is easy to see the animals in their zoo habitats. We visited the cheetahs, the gorillas, the penguins, and the giraffes. The zoo offers yearly memberships, so you don't have to pay each visit. That is a really good value. Parking is a challenge, but they have plenty of people to guide you and take care of the zoo. Wow! What can I say, we went to the zoo today and enjoyed a lot of the exhibits. We ended up meeting a lot of knowledgeable members who answered a lot of our questions about the animals! Max was so informative about the gorillas and (forgive me, I did not see their tags) the person at the hippos provided a lot of great info on them as well. We also went to watch the elephants and met another crew member who had a great convo with us on the elephants and other animals and programs that they were working on. Loved being so informed and enjoying the animals in this zoo. read more

I figured I would update my review as it has been a number of years in between visits. Parking is now $14 unless you have a membership; which luckly someone in our party did. With the updates Ft Worth zoo has completed over the last few years to make the habitats over there I will have to say if you have too pick one or the other during a visit to DFW; go with Ft Worth. Dallas Zoo felt more worn down in the about 5 years since my last visit. The lay out of the zoo seems to require a lot more back tracking to get to other areas vs a general circular approach to Ft Worth Zoo. (With the train that you can pay to ride back up front or take to the back to start over there if you choose at Ft Worth.) Really if we hadn't gotten in for free with my friends pass I would have been disappointed with the upkeep for what we would have paid for a family of 4 for one day tickets & parking. A number of animals; including the sloths; we're not out due to the temperature being lower than 60 degrees which I can understand... but we still got to see many. There are some areas under construction which for the cooler months which aren't as busy it makes sense to work on those during non-peak times of the year. read more

Now that I am older, I tend to forget about the Dallas Zoo and how much fun it is! I got to join my nephew on his school field trip and it was such a blast! We ended up going during a weekday, so it wasn't packed at all! And even better for us, the day was cloudy so it wasn't too hot! The animals bring back so many memories, making the experience 10x better! I will say I was faily surprised by the fact that they've managed to keep the park highly maintained over the years! The park itself is very clean, the animals seem to be out and about too! The only thing I will mention is that they tend to be on the pricier side, but that is expected! We ended up eating lunch at one of the cafe's in the park, and it as surprisingly good! I got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich and it was huge! You can definitely still bring in coolers and your own snacks! And they now ooffer a wide variety of alcohol for purchase too! I'll definitely be back for one of their adult nights! Where it seems they sell nothing but craft cocktails! SO cool to see the evolution! read more

I recently visited the Dallas Zoo and had an incredible experience with my family. One of the highlights was watching my son feed the giraffes lettuce; his eyes lit up with excitement as these gentle giants came close for a snack. There were many interactive exhibits that were very hands on at the children's area. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our visit, always ready to answer questions. The zoo was well maintained. This was def one of the better zoos I've been too. It was so much to see we didn't even get to see all the animals. To gorillas, hippopotamus's, giraffes, elephants, lions and everything else. I highly recommend the Dallas Zoo for families and animal lovers period. read more

We decided to take my grandson to the Zoo for the first time while on Spring Break in Dallas. I am so glad we did. The Dallas Zoo was so much fun and unexpected!!! I have not been to the zoo in so long and was apprehensive about going. Granted we came later in the day with only three hours until closing. We decided to focus on the Children's part, Lions, Hippo, Gorilla, Giraffe, and Elephants. The most unexpected part was being able to feed the Giraffe!!!!! You have to pay $7 for a bundle and you get your own bay to stand at. As you can see I loved it. I wanted to take one home. In addition, we were searching for a plain lemonade icy for the baby and was told a stand was near the Giraffe might have it. So as I said it was closing and the guy just gave it to us with no charge for the baby. I loved the Segway into the Africa part of the Zoo...it was air conditioned with music and the fun lights. The baby was even vibing to the music in his stroller;). The staff were friendly...when I asked for a cup with ice I was given a souvenir aluminum cup for no charge. We had an amazing time and it was so relaxing...the people were friendly including the staff and nice! I highly recommend visiting even if you're on a date! This is a Must Return!!!! read more

The zoo was amazing when we went last week. Unfortunately we were delayed with transportation so we had one hour until the zoo closed when we arrived. The staff guided us the best they could saying we'd get to see a good amount of animals within in hour if we "went this direction" or "that way". We were there until about 10 minutes past closed and the staff didn't rush us out while we stopped at the gift shop. One of the baby chimps was playing with something that looked sharp and when we brought to the attention of the staff they acted quickly! Volunteered the day here with work. Found this to be such an amazing place to unwind and reconnect with nature! It was great staffing one of the activity centers and helping kids learn about organic farming So many amazing animals too! Best part is they had the zebras and giraffes in the same exhibit!! I recently visited the Dallas zoo for the first time a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it! It doesn't feel like it's super big, but it is very big! There's so much to do and look at. It offers a variety of things to do for adults all the way down to little toddlers. They also do a GREAT job at keeping the place shaded and cool during the hot summer months. There are also several places to go inside and cool down. I recently became a member and there are so many perks of being a member like, monthly coupons, discounts on food/merch, free things, free feedings, free parking/entry, and so much more. I think it's worth it, especially if you think you'll go more than twice in a year. read more

We have been to a lot of zoos and I would sit. This one is slightly better than average. However, it was still a really nice zoo to go to. We went in the afternoon and the animals had all just been fed, which made them very active. This is the most active I've ever seen hippos so that was really cool. They have a fast variety of different animals and we were able to feed a giraffe so that was cool. There are not any other zoo experiences that they offer which is a bummer cause sometimes we'll do those. read more

I am here to let y'all know about The Dallas Zoo After Dark Christmas Edition. I went last night when it was 21 and up (adults only) night. I arrived promptly at 6pm and met my friends. I parked not very far from the entrance; scanned our tickets and in we went. Most of the zoo is closed off since the animals are sleeping, but they still have many trails and paths all lit up with different colors and themes. With our tickets we did get light up/blinky Santa hats and photos with the real-life Santa! There were a few places along the routes to buy drinks and snacks. My friends had some beers, and I had a hot chocolate. We also bought some smores and there were a few fire pits to toast your marshmallows. There are some many photo opportunities. So much to see. The "forest" area had a DJ playing some interesting music. Glad there were no kids around! But she had some folks dancing on the small dance floor. Don't miss the dino exhibit. They have may been my favorite. Another neat part is being able to go to the area with the reptiles. All the light are off, but they gave us all a flashlight with red lights so we could peak into the aquariums and see if we could spot the snake, frog, lizard, etc. It was quite a site to see a bunch of blinking Santa hats and red lights bopping around. We stayed for four hours and didn't even realize that much time had passed by. I highly recommend this event. It's festive and fun!! read more

We visited the Dallas Zoo as part of our City Pass on our Texas trip. Normal admission cost is about $22 to $25 depending on the day you go. The zoo is located just a short distance south of the Dallas downtown area. The zoo is broken up into 2 different sections. Once you enter the zoo, if you continue to the left you will head to the Giants of the Savanna and the Wilds of Africa sections. There is a long tunnel that takes you under the city streets to this area. This was my favorite part of the zoo. There is a beautiful lion habitat that is connected to a restaurant. Be sure to go inside the restaurant, because there is a giant viewing window here and when we visited all of the lions were sleeping in this area. From the outside viewing area, you could not see them. The giraffe feeding area was also another cool experience. You can purchase some food and then there is a separate area that you can stand and feed them as they come right up to you. On the other side of the zoo, known as Zoo North, this is where you will find a children's zoo (which has a water play area), the train ride and much much more. Warning, this area of the zoo is a lot of hills. So if you have anyone in a wheel chair or that has trouble walking, this area can be difficult. I kept thinking, it would be nice if there was some kind of tram that you could ride that would take you around the park. Apparently there was a monorail ride that closed a few years ago. This is unfortunate. Overall the Dallas zoo is very nice. It's not an all-day activity. We spent about 3 hours and were able to see everything. If you are going during the weekday, be prepared for a lot of school groups. read more

We visited on a Saturday morning, arriving shortly after they opened. There was a wait exiting the highway and getting into the parking lot. We had prepaid for tickets so it was fast moving through the entrance (they scanned the tickets from my phone). We did not have any issues bringing our own snacks (we have food allergies) or water. There are food and beverages for purchase, including alcohol. There are also experiences inside such as riding the carousel and feeding the giraffes that have an additional charge. We especially enjoyed the snakes in the reptile house. This is definitely a solid choice for family-friendly fun but I only gave it four stars instead of five because it lacks some of the "wow factor" of some other zoos that I have visited. There also weren't as many animals visible as I expected. read more

I had the best time here. I normally don't support zoos because they tend to crowd animals & the animals look really sad... not at all the case here. The exhibits are pretty far away from each other so you'll do a lot of walking. Seeing an otter for the first time in my life was AMAZING. Spirit animal for sure. There's a tunnel after the #thisiswhatascientistlookslike Board that showcases women in different scientific departments. As a premed student this was amazing to see! I saw an anteater too! The Dallas Zoo was a lot bigger than I thought! My wife and I went to the zoo on a Saturday afternoon and parking was pretty difficult but they had opened up some extra parking that wasn't too far away. The habitats were in good condition and I liked the layout of the zoo too! Pretty clean overall and we had a great time walking around and seeing all of the animals. Unfortunately it was a pretty hot day when I went and none of the drinking fountains I passed were working. Had a good time and would definitely come again at off-peak times! read more

This was a great zoo with some incredible habitats for the animals. More like a sanctuary! If you start to the left, it's a nearly 0.4mi walk to the first exhibit (penguins) through a pretty dark tunnel. The elephant and giraffe enclosures are amazing! You can see the giraffes super up close and personal. For as cool as those were, the lions were a tad disappointing - if they're not in the limited viewing area, you can't see them at all. I loved the Gorilla trail, we were able to see so many and they were up close! There is lots of programming that's clearly marked so you don't miss the opportunity to interact with a keeper or the animals. There was a small children's train running but no large train. We wandered the whole zoo in just about 2 hours but the forest aviary was closed, so you could add a little more time for that. Pack a lunch, there are plenty of spaces to have a picnic! read more

This was our first visit to the Dallas Zoo. The Dallas CityPass is a great way to get discounted tickets to area attractions. In the warmer months, get their early so you have a chance to see the animals. We felt we got to see a lot of animals out and about (even though we were really sweating!). We didn't try any of the food or beverage options to comment there, but we did notice they sold beer. Another bonus is having a DART stop nearby the zoo - giving you options to get there and avoiding paying for parking. read more
