Efficient and WOW, under an hour. This place is a bit of a drive for me, but after dealing with other nearby Subaru dealers, it is absolutely worth going out of my way to come here. Great spot for an oil change and to have them keep an eye on anything else that might come up. They also have a massive lobby with a very small kids play area, which I have honestly never seen before. The attention to detail stood out, and it felt very family friendly overall. I brought my car in on Saturday for its 60,000-mile service and was told the work could not be completed until Monday. While I appreciated being given a loaner car, the way the dealership handled the situation after that was unacceptable. The loaner was a brand-new vehicle with only 241 miles on it. I used it only for errands over the weekend and commuting to and from work, totaling 96 miles. On Monday, before returning it, I stopped to replace the gas I had used. After filling the tank, the car would not start. I was only about 1.5 miles from the dealership, so I immediately called for help. Instead of assisting me directly, the dealership told me to call roadside assistance myself and wait 60-90 minutes for a tow. This was after I had already left work 30 minutes early so I could get to the dealership before the service department closed. By that point, I was stranded at a gas station around 4:45 p.m. with a brand-new dealership loaner that would not start, and the dealership offered no meaningful help. To make matters worse, my husband called the service advisor on my behalf to see if they could help, and the advisor claimed he could not provide my information to the tow company because he did not want to disclose personal information to a third party. That made no sense. The issue was not about sharing private details -- it was about helping a stranded customer in one of the dealership's own loaner vehicles who was less than two miles away. What makes this especially frustrating is how easily the dealership could have handled this better. I was right down the road. A staff member could have come to assist, or at the very least picked me up while someone else dealt with the vehicle. Instead, I was left sitting at a gas station waiting for roadside assistance because the dealership chose not to take responsibility for a problem involving its own loaner car. Mechanical issues can happen, even with new cars. What matters is how a business responds when they do. In this case, the dealership showed poor customer service, no urgency, and no accountability. Leaving a customer stranded nearby in one of your own loaner vehicles and then hiding behind excuses is not acceptable service. I expected far better. read more

I will never buy a Suburu again and let everyone know how bad these cars are made. We bought this car in December of 2020 a Suburu Forrester. I had someone rear end me on the freeway while the car was moving, pretty hard hit. Took the car to repair and when I received it back the car had a light on and I asked the Suburu dealership if it was associated with the accident . Mind you it never had this light (transmission light) before the accident it was running great. Suburu dealership ran their tests and said it was not associated with the accident. So I'm confused. My car is a 2020 close to 2021 because I bought brand new on December 2020. The accident happen on December 2024. So you mean to tell me that your transmissions only last 3 years. That's not a good quality car if that's the case. So they want to charge $10,000 plus to replace a transmission. But, there is another problem of the car. I notice the car through out these couple years start to literally turn off on me on the road when I would stop at a light. It would literally just turn off. I asked the dealership and they said that they noticed they installed batteries that were not capable of powering the vehicle so "I" would have to replace the battery myself for the car to work how it normally should. How is it the consumers fault that you guys built the car wrong and expect the costumer to pay for your mistake. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these cars. Not built very well. read more

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star! ‼BEWARE‼to all my fellow Subaru peeps that have custom rims DO NOT take your car to this spot to be services. I took my car in for the routine maintenance and ended up with broken lug nuts and broken studs. You would think they would have fixed what they did but instead they started to play the blame game blaming the last Subaru dealership. My rims were perfect before taking the car in. I don't understand why they didn't call me to ask where the socket key was for the lug nuts but instead decided to use their own. The manager was rude and condescending. Another manager came out and said they would cover the costs to fix things but once they got the invoice of what it would cost they stated they would only cover cost of the part but would not fix the studs they broke and claimed they do not touch aftermarket rims. Well if that were the case they should have never touched my rims to begin with and they should have never taken it upon themselves to try to remove the tires without the proper lug nut key. They do not value their customers and they definitely have no knowledge of custom parts. STAY AWAY FROM THEM especially if your someone like me who puts their hard earned money into their car looking good. read more

And forget about it if you want to get something fixed! They won't do it. They'll gaslight you, forget to order parts, and then suddenly be "real backed up for 2 weeks" when the parts are in - then return the parts because you didn't come in for 2 weeks. My husband and I have been looking for an SUV for the past few months and it's been a challenge to balance the crazy car market prices, our financial goals, and our adventure car goals. We've done a ton of research and have gone to a number of car dealerships from Subaru Kearny Mesa, Toyota Carlsbad, and Subaru El Cajon. We had some decent experiences at some and classically terrible and sleazy service at others, so our expectations were low when we went to Dalton Subaru to check out a 2023 Forester. First, our salesman, Jose Cortez, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and treated us with respect and patience. He made us feel cared for and was never pushy about our purchase. We were trying to decide between two types of trim and he never tried pushing us towards the more expensive one. He respected our time and when he found an even better deal for us than we were offered at a previous dealership, he had full numbers drawn up and in writing for us. He didn't play any games and gave us their best deal immediately. Second, the new sales manager, George Nelson, was extremely charismatic and treated us with the utmost kindness and respect. He truly took time to get to know us and also made us feel that we could trust him and his team. When we caught an honest (and minor) error in the paperwork, he went to get new papers printed and apologized profusely even though he could have just played it off or taken a shortcut to rectify the situation. We were also inspired by his story and why he chose to come work at Dalton Subaru. His pride in this dealership made us feel even more assured that we had chosen the right place. We also appreciated that they worked on our sales price and trade in values separately, giving each part of the process the attention it needed. Ultimately Jose and George got our numbers where we wanted them, pulling strings where they could and being genuine and transparent when they couldn't. By the time we were ready to sign papers, we were very impressed with them both and they had gained our trust. Unfortunately Fabio, the finance agent, damaged the experience and rapport that Jose and George had worked extremely hard to build. Fabio wasn't a terrible person to deal with, just unfortunately was a major departure from Jose and George. Fabio felt like the stereotypical sleazy car salesman you try to avoid. He was impatient, curt, and even condescending at times. Instead of discussing the benefits of the additional services he was offering, he was extremely dismissive, pushy, and talked down to us, giving us arbitrary "deadlines" for us to make major decisions. The signing of the actual documents is the most important part, and all he had to do was ride on the momentum that Jose and George had built. While going through the contract, he made us feel rushed for wanting to read through what we were signing. We should have stopped him and asked for a different finance agent at that time, but we regrettably didn't. We mentioned our dissatisfaction to George and he went above and beyond to make things right for us. We didn't expect for him to take care of us to the extent that he did but we appreciated his efforts immensely. It's possible Fabio was having a bad day or just used to bad habits encouraged by previous management. If he's willing to take feedback and grow under George's guidance, we're confident the customers' happiness and his own commission will increase in time. If you want to buy a car, do your research, be reasonable, and don't be afraid to call out unsatisfactory behavior. Dalton Subaru - Our new 2023 Subaru Forester! - Car Dealers Near Me - National City, California

I purchased a vehicle from Dalton Subaru (National City) and had an extremely disappointing and concerning experience. I paid in full via ACH bank transfer, confirmed by my bank the same afternoon. After spending $200 on an Uber to get there, the dealership falsely claimed they hadn't received my payment and forced me to fill out a credit application for a $6,000 loan -- just so I could drive away with the car I already paid for. After arguing, they "waived" the fake loan and let me leave. The car was falsely advertised as a higher "Altitude" trim when it was actually a lower "Laredo E" model. Less than a week later, the car developed a coolant leak. I replaced the water pump myself, costing me $350 in parts and several hours of labor. Upon removing the pump, I found evidence of a poor-quality repair attempt -- gasket sealer or possibly JB Weld sloppily applied, clearly intended to conceal the leaking water pump instead of properly repairing it. When I contacted the dealership, I was transferred between seven people before being told they would not assist me unless I had purchased an extended warranty. This dealership misled me about payment, misrepresented the vehicle, and concealed mechanical defects. BE VERY CAREFUL if you consider buying here. Adding to my previous review of Dalton Subaru: after dealing with payment scams and hidden mechanical issues, now the car's screen randomly stopped working. Predatory, Sexist, and Dangerous - A Shameful Dealership That Preys on Vulnerable Buyers If I could give zero stars, I would. This dealership has shown a shocking and deeply disturbing pattern of predatory behavior, particularly toward young women, disabled individuals, and elderly customers--especially Black women like my mother and me. What was supposed to be a trusted, professional experience turned into a nightmare that has endangered our safety, financial stability, and mental health. From day one, the car they sold me had issues. Two days after purchase, it had to go back in for major servicing--and I didn't even get to drive it for the first two months. Yet, instead of taking accountability, they pushed false charges, gaslit us, and pressured my elderly mother into signing for services they hadn't even properly diagnosed. It was clear they were trying to wring as much money as possible from us, with no regard for our well-being. Customer service? Nonexistent. Reggie and Tyler, the so-called service reps, don't return calls, don't arrange promised transportation, and consistently do the bare minimum--if that. Their dismissiveness and attitude were insulting at best, and discriminatory at worst. Their negligence could have killed someone. I brought the car in to have the headlights fixed--something I specifically stressed. They assured me the job was done. It wasn't. Instead, they fixed something that wasn't broken and sent my elderly mother home at night with non-working headlights. That is a terrifying level of irresponsibility. I also believe the original car I traded in was stripped for parts. After the catastrophic failure of that vehicle, their behavior suggests they may have had no intention of helping me get into a reliable vehicle--they just saw a chance to take advantage. Then came the sales experience. I was promised help from a manager but was instead pawned off to a new hire who behaved wildly unprofessionally. He sexually harassed me over text after the sale, forged documents, and even coerced me to sign paperwork alone--forcing my caregiver to leave the room. He sold me what he called the "cleanest unit," a car that he withheld the CarFax on, and I believe he knew it wasn't ready or even a good sell. When I reported all of this to the service manager, Antonio, he did nothing but quote the handbook at me and pretended like his hands were tied. They admitted they fired the sales associate for inappropriate behavior, but no one ever apologized or made things right with me--the victim. Now I need more work done on the car, but I am terrified to return. I no longer trust that they won't continue to tamper with or neglect a vehicle they never should have sold me in the first place. After being manipulated, harassed, lied to, and financially exploited, I'm left with a car that still isn't safe and no accountability from the dealership. We trusted them with our hard-earned Black dollars, and they treated us with negligence, disrespect, and outright exploitation. This place is not safe, not professional, and not honest. I was offered a loaner, declined initially, and called back the next morning to accept, only to be told no advisor was available until Tuesday (which is when its supposed to be done). Do not go to this dealer, it used to be a good dealership but now they'll only gonna try to rip you off. I went there last week for brake, clutch and transmission fluid flush and replace and the charge was reasonable and told them about the check engine that just popped up before my appointment but I knew it was already my oxygen sensor. once they were done with all those they told me that I have a turbo liner leak, c lamp for my subaru wrx 2017 wasn't working so i need the whole headlight assembly to be replaced, and some critical issues 4 critical issues to be exact and they all cost like $500 and more, but they were just trying to rip me off since all those critical issues is in good condition all working. Good thing i've checked my car before I went to that worst dealer so I just told them I will have to do it myself just to finish the conversation. So after a day I took my car and paid for all the fluid flushes for $650, which was fine. When I was driving home I heard some clanking noise so when I got home I checked under my car and As i was looking I saw a metal piece that is hanging onto my suspension and that metal piece was used to hang stuff for the brake fluid change, Then popped the hood and got surprise that my car engine cover is missing. I came back to the dealer told them about everything and they put the engine cover back together and of course they keep saying sorry. Which i told them what if I didn't check that i'm not from South California and i'm from Bay area and that day that I got my car is the same day that i'm going back here in Bay area. Imagine what mess i'm gonna be with One more thing don't ever buy parts from them they will try to sell you the most expensive parts and the guy that works for the parts service is rude and like a d***. read more

Seldom do I write reviews. I've been going to Frank and now Dalton for 10 years. They have always been overall solid until recently. This review is specifically in regards to the online scheduling service which I have been using in the same time frame. About 3 weeks ago I scheduled my service online and when I showed up for my morning appointment they did not have my appointment listed and said I would have to do a drop off with an expected completion until later in the day. I had already made plans later in the day and was unable to stay. I thought it was an error on my end so I didn't think much of it. I rescheduled a new appointment. I called in just to confirm it went through and I was advised yes. Later in the day I go into the portal just to double check and lo and behold it's gone again. I called in and sure enough the appointment was gone. It's not enough to a make switch to Kearny or El Cajon Subaru but I think if it happens again it's enough to take 10 years of business else where and hope no one else has to lose their time and gas the same. read more

-SERVICE DEPARTMENT - KATHERINE- The first Subaru I ever owned was a 1982 Subaru GL Wagon with a 1.4 L engine that didn't have enough power to get out of its own way. That car lasted forever (175,000 miles), which unfortunately is not the case for newer Subarus, which brings me to my most recent experience with Dalton Subaru's service department. I brought my 2017 Subaru Outback 3.6 in because there appeared to be a transmission leak. The vehicle has about 88,000 miles, and I want to keep it, because I am not crazy about any of the newer vehicles these days. Since Subaru's factory warranty ends at 60,000 miles, I figured any significant repair would have to be covered by the extended warranty. The repair did turn out to be extensive, so Katherine my service advisor got me a loaner car, and told me that Subaru's warranty would cover the repair. This meant that I did not have to pay the deductible for the extended warranty that I bought along with the car. Katherine called me when everything was done, and all I paid for was an oil change, which costs about the same at the dealership compared to a quick-service oil change these days. This isn't the first time that the service advisors at Dalton Subaru (previously Frank Subaru) were able to get Subaru to warranty a repair for a vehicle that was out of warranty for miles. Over the years, that has not only saved me thousands of dollars, but has kept me loyal to the brand even as the newer Subarus don't last as long as they used to. (They go a lot faster though!) If you own a Subaru in San Diego, you owe it to yourself keep it well maintained, and you probably will make out better by doing most or all of your maintenance at Dalton Subaru. read more

We first bought a Subaru here in 2022 and we were amazed how good an experience it was. I genuinely didn't know that buying a new car could be anything other than stressful. This same feeling has continued as I've gone back to have the car serviced over time. So when we were in the market for another car there was no doubt where we would be going. I'm pleased to report that the experience the second time around was just as positive as the first. Friendly and knowledgable staff (primarily Shelby Hall), pleasant showroom and, of course, great cars. What really makes the difference though is just how easy and clear the process of buying a car - or of getting it serviced - is from beginning to end. One point to note is that buying a car here is not a quick process. Some of that is to be expected, especially if financing is involved, but the process is a little cumbersome, and requires the sales associate to get up and down multiple times to go and check things, get things approved, or even to retrieve printed documents (I'm a process guy by profession so it all seems rather inefficient). We were comfortable and relaxed so we didn't mind the wait, but do expect to take about half a day from test drive to driving home in the new car. In summary, I would highly recommend Subaru as a car company, and Dalton Subaru as a great dealer to buy from. read more
