After talking with a salesman twice about a specific car, we decided to drive 2.5 hours to test drive/buy the car. We kept the salesman informed when we hit road construction and were going to be a few minutes late. When we got there the car we were to test drive was not even at the location, a salesman, not the one we'd been communication with, went and got the car from a different lot. The front door power locks would not work and when we went for a test drive the air conditioner was not working. The car was so dirty inside. What a waste of our time and gas. Warning! Stay far away from this dealership. Honesty and Integrity isn't something they seem to care about. It's all about taking your money. I purchased a vehicle over Cars.com and before buying, I spoke with Carlos Woods over the phone and ask every question I could think of about the vehicle. He claimed he had driven the vehicle and it was good to go. I purchased and the vehicle was sent here with a completely broken frame, , broken wheel bearings and leaks from under the vehicle. I called and emailed management and DJ Derry stated the problems were listed on the maintenance sheet sent to me prior to buying. The problems were listed as needing attention, not already broken. Really, the vehicle should have been listed as non-operational. I can promise you, this dealership will not do well because they do not care about people. Steven Meier - who is a finance manager is a complete LIAR, UN-ETHICAL person that you'd probably be better off working with anyone but him. Mind you I started off saying I DO NOT WANT of the extra insurance, even asked the salesman for him to skip that as I went in knowing I did NOT want it. He stated I "HAD" to have GAP which was $941, as my lender "REQUIRED," I questioned it, he stated it again, "REQUIRED" When your 80% loan to value you can remove it. I called my lender the next morning. Guess what they were confused why I was asking this question as I was only at 73% loan to value and stated it was NOT REQUIRED. I go to the dealer to figure out why he said it was REQUIRED, he's response is he suggested it. It was the lender protection you could have declined it. 100% LIAR and he knows it. I insisted he called the bank and do the paperwork correctly and magically they re-did everything correctly. Crazy how I wasn't required to have GAP! Will be filling a complaint with BBB and Iowa attorney general. Did not even get an apology, if you're going to lie and get caught at least own up to it. Salesman Dave Maxwell gets the sale and leaves you high and dry. He exact response to the horrible experience " "Unfortunately I don't have any part in that." Not even a sorry or let me see what I can do. Thats not what you want to in a car buying experience is it, being lied to and left high and dry? I would not recommend this dealership after my experience. I have been in the market for a specific model of truck and features. After finding one on Deery's website I contacted them and confirmed the details of the vehicle, asked some questions about it and made an appointment for a few days later. I also made it clear that I would be travelling from a distance away (1.5 hours). The person I spoke to noted this and said they would contact me the night before my appointment to confirm the vehicle was still available so I wouldn't waste my trip. When I didn't hear from them on the night before I contacted the dealership and spoke to another person. They confirmed it was and that I was good to make the trip. When I arrived at the dealership I found that the person I had my appointment with wasn't actually a salesman but just the 'internet leads guy' so I got handed off to someone else. As we approached the truck for the test drive and I was about to open the drivers door the salesman says 'they mentioned this is a smokers vehicle, right?' No. No one had mentioned that little tidbit to me. It would have been impossible to not notice the stench in this vehicle. When I said I wasn't interested in the vehicle the sales manager then joined the conversation and offered to do the ozone treatment to the interior for a 2nd time but it would take 1/2 a day and it MAY reduce the smell. When I pointed out the truck had been on the lot for 40ish days and they had ample time to remediate it the conversation became contentious. I made it clear I didn't appreciate this information about the vehicle being left out of the AD and from my 2 conversations with employees before making the trip and the manager attempted to gaslight me. While I was leaving and again after I left the location they contacted me attempting to get me to return and look at other trucks that did not have the trim and features I was explicitly looking for. So beware unless you explicitly ask if a vehicle was previously owned by a smoker they will not tell you and it is not included in the ad. I don't know what else they may hold back just to get someone to come in the door but I will not be returning. read more

This dealership is full of thieves and they try to actively steal money from customers. Very terrible customer service. The sales manager is very disrespectful. Laughed at me in my face when I asked for a deposit back I had put on a vehicle I decided not to purchase. Do not do business with this place unless you want them to steal money from you. Was pressured into a deposit while still deciding if I wanted to buy the vehicle i was looking at. Never signed sales documents or even talked to my bank. Yet Deery is refusing to refund the money. No documents I have says anything about refunds being non refundable. I have contacted the states attorneys office and the better business bureau regarding this matter as well as my personal attorney. Learn from my mistake and don't ever give them a deposit. Honestly one of the worst experiences of my life. I purchase a 2016 Mazda CX- 5 on May 18th, I had the car for ONE WEEK and drove the car twice before it broke down on May 25th and I had to have it towed back to the dealership (on my dime I might add). Where they held it until July 18th!! Issue after issue with this car and they ended up replacing the whole engine. Communication was atroucious, I could never get any updates on when my car would be ready or even what the issue was. Leaving voicemail after voicemail with no return calls or they would promise to give me an update and then I would never get a call. Until finally my dad called and they got back to him right away. (I will say this lack of communication is also on the Mazda dealership as they had to tow my car there for the repair). Communication got a bit better but I was constantly told "Your car should be done by X date" only for that to be completely false. I was told to call the Mazda dealership for updates and then I was told I should *NOT* be calling the Mazda dealership and then I was again told, "if you want an update on your car, call the Mazda dealership" Totally conflicting information and very frustrating. They did pay in full for the repair as not only did I purchase the extended warranty but it also had the "Dan Deery Certified" warranty. I honestly wasn't going to leave a review, I know sometimes crappy situations happen and it was handled very poorly but I don't like to be a negative person! However today I was informed I'm not able to register my car due to the PREVIOUS owner of the car having tinted windows and getting written up for it. Dan Deery either didn't know this or didn't care as I was never informed of this. I now have to take my car to get it inspected by the sheriffs office and then submit that my car passed the inspection to the county before I can even register my car. Overall, I can NOT recommend purchasing a car here. The customer service is terrible. They don't care about the cars they put on the lot, and they certainly don't really care about you as a customer. However they definitely have a lot of nice cars! So if one catches your eye I would suggest having your own personal mechanic (NOT one from Dan Deery) check it over before you purchase any cars from them. Bought a car this January, 3 weeks later my brakes go out, the driver side siezed up and made the car almost undriveable. They ask me to drive the car over 70 miles back to them from Cedar Rapids with NO BRAKES. After the tech got a chance to look it over he came back and tells me "I'm glad you got it here when you did, the car is not safe to drive. It looks like one of our techs did work on the Rotors and messed up the install. Basically the pin that holds your caliper in place was almost completely out and it shredded your brake line and a few other things." It took almost 8 hours before I even got to hear that much, then they proceed to tell me they have to order the parts. At least this much was covered by them because it was on them. Now only a month later I'm having brake issues again. If your tech installed the the parts wrong on 1 tire, but did work on all 4, then wouldn't it be wise to check them all over to ensure the problem doesn't persist? Well I called them on March 20th when my "Brake" light pops on, the receptionist that answered was VERY short with me on this issue and all around VERY rude and unprofessional, then proceeded to try and tell me it's a warrenty issue. Your mechanic admitted it was a mistake on their end, how is this a warrenty issue? Moral of the story if they say its a "Deery certified" car they WILL NOT stand behind it and they will ask you to put your life in harms way to take it to them rather than doing the right thing and allowing you to take it to a local mechanic. So much for a "Certified" car, just let people drive without brakes and possibly get hurt or worse when hitting the floor with the pedal doesn't stop you. Word of advice, go somewhere else, these people do not care for your safety. *Update* I was contacted by the maintenance/service manager and he, once again, asked me to drive it 70 miles to them with faulty brakes. I took it to a local mechanic and just paid the repair myself, I do not feel safe having them touch the car again. The real kicker here is that it was almost an identical issue to the one they previously repaired.They did not offer any SAFE option to try and correct the problem. We had our car in for an oil change and shortly after it began leaking oil. I called them and they promptly came to my home, inspected my vehicle, hired a tow truck, offered me a loaner vehicle, came the next day to clean up oil that had leaked. They fixed the issue and returned my car back to my home the following day. So, while I wasn't super excited that my car was leaking after an oil change, I know of no other business that would have gone to such lengths, without my asking, to correct the situation. Did allot of research on vehicles - specifically Corollas. Arrived just after opening and Dannette was right on the spot. I was looking at two vehicles - one not even yet detailed. Test drove both and this was no five minute test drive. Danette took me on a route that really let me get the feel of the car. She also explained many of the features as we went. Back at the office, she explained how I could order (waitlist) a new car and also leasing. I wanted to drive one of cars again and so we did. After we got back, Danette noticed a slightly different in color on the hood. We figured it had been replaced. All in all Danette was very frank and honest - I didn't feel pressured at all. The offer price was inline with KBB. The sales pitch was a tad long but that's because I didn't speak up about not interested in leasing. Financing was next - dreaded that but it was a breeze!!! Like 10 minutes!!! Rep explained available options of which I only wanted gal insurance. Again - refreshing to not be armed twisted. Rate was also inline with my personal bank. They will sell you crap cars they have in their used lot. They sold us a 4000 car with 5,000 worth of damage under it needed. If your going to sell used as is cars, than when a customer says they need a good reliable car for under 10,000 than make sure your not selling lemons. That you can put a teenager safely in a car. The other used car we got was good but needs 600$ worth. If your name is behind selling cars, I know it's a high risk game, but knowing your name is behind crap cars isn't something I'd be proud of. Or having employees sell. Or give me less for my trade in than sell it for 6,000 more.my sons first car never driven but home and sitting until repairs can be made. I'm sure there are better cases and I should know better, but people play a risk and try to trust dealerships. I now have a used suv older than what I traded and learned my mistake. The buying process was pretty straightforward. My salesman Mark was great. Gave me a fair enough price on my trade-in. However, look out for when they take you in the back to get the financing started. Bought a like-new used car and when it came to the paperwork I noticed that the price I had agreed upon with Mark had changed. Already a red flag. After we got that squared away they put a tablet in front of me showing me my coverage options. At no point did they mention that coverage was NOT necessary. They took a $1000 deposit to secure the sale. Later in the evening I get a call from my salesmen who tells me the General Sales Manager said he can't sell the car because I don't have a trade-in, as they are so short on cars. I talked to the Sales Manager and he said that he can't sell the car for full MSRP like we agreed...it has to be a minimum of $1000 over MSRP without a trade in. They then refunded my down payment. We had a contract with a down payment, and they decide they could squeeze a little more money out of someone else. Unbelievable. Shady business practice, lack of values and integrity. Will seek assistance from the Consumer Protection Agency, as I have documents and a receipt. All so they could make $1000 more. Plus, I am a previous customer. Incredibly happy with my new vehicle, but very unsatisfied with the service I received. This dealership is 1.5hrs away from me. I made three trips and during my first trip they insisted that I leave with a car that day, even though I made it clear I was only gathering information. They immediately became dismissive when they realized they wouldn't be making a sale that day. I reluctantly drove back a second time for a specific vehicle. The purchasing process was relatively painless. I informed them that I needed to leave the vehicle there for 2 days until I could retrieve it with help. During this 3rd and final trip, I gave them a curtesy call to inform them I was on my way. I confirmed closing time and was on schedule to arrive 3hrs prior to closing. Upon arrival all lights were off and they were locking their doors. Fortunately I caught the guy and was able to get my car, however, after driving away I realized it was missing all the floor mats! A big point of sale for me was that it came with all weather mats and they were completely missing. Luckily I caught the guy one more time and after another 30 minutes was able to get my mats. Shortly thereafter I realized the gas level was left on a quarter tank, and my fuel light came on not even half way through my drive. Normally I wouldn't be too bent about this, but I did communicate to them many times how far of a commute it was. After spending $20k+ on a vehicle and leaving the it there for 2 days, I expected all loose ends would be tied up and that I would be set up for a swift pick up. I gave them a heads up when I was finally on my way, but apparently two days is still not enough time for them. Had I been there any later, I would've had to make that hour and a half drive back up for a fourth time! read more

SHADY DEALERSHIP- I wouldnt be purchasing any car here- Was so excited to see this used vehicle on a bright, sunny day. Instantly looking around the car I noticed a scratch/ dent on the trunk part but the salesman said it was just a sticker and could be buffed out- test drove just fine. The salesman said that the dealer needed to get rid of the car because they had it for too long- but once again didn't disclose the damage- Came back with my husband and he noticed the scratch/ dent on the back of the vehicle and when he asked the sales guy he said oh i didnt notice... then came back with a form saying that the dealer isnt responsible for any issues the car has once purchased. Unhappy about this we bought the car and were only given 1 key ( other one lost). Then brought the vehicle home to notice there was major hail damage- 9k and up worth of damage. That wasnt even counting the damage on the trunk part of the vehicle. Tried to correspond with the GM but he kept blaming us for not being hail inspectors- The collision repair place we took it too said it would have been impossible to see the damage on sunny day- The non- disclosure of the 9k worth of hail damage is WRONG!!! And to blame the customer for not seeing the damage because they dont want to take the car back tells me that the INTEGRITY of this dealership should be questionable, to say the least. Do not purchase from this dealer, especially if you live out of state. Their website promotes selling out of state and shipping vehicles. Our experience was a nightmare. The truck was supposed be detailed before shipping. It arrived completely covered in dirt. They apologized and said they didn't have time. The paperwork was supposed to be in the truck; it wasn't. We were given the runaround and didn't receive the paperwork for over a week. We negotiated for tag, tax, and title fees to be included and that they would send a check to the DMV. After 4-5 phone calls throughout the week and being repeatedly told they were sending the check, they did not. They were supposed to send the check and the title to the DMV, instead they sent us the title! In the final phone call, they said oops, we don't do send checks to out of state DMVs, yet, they added $5k to the final purchase agreement and could never explain this price increase. Finally. We reached out to Mr. Deery himself, and his response mirrored that of the sales people. This dealership was a nightmare. We've purchased vehicles from out of state before and never experienced anything like this. The sales people, all three of them, were completely inept. ~~AVOID~~ They don't even deserve a 1 star rating. Terrible service, unorganized, and awful to work with. Don't waste your time - they wasted over a WEEK of mine!! I was drug along for over a week and a half, by Eugene their used car sales person. First phone call to the dealership I had told him "I'll take it, if it has a warranty." He informed me that it did qualify for their warranty, but the promotion didn't start until the next day. I called back the next day, and was told the warranty was on the vehicle, but it needed to go through a safety inspection before they could sell it - which should be the next day. I called back the following day, and I was informed it was getting inspected, and should be done by end of day. I was promised he call me back - never did. I contacted him again the next day, the vehicle passed the safety inspection, but they were closed for the weekend as the showroom floors are being redone. I contacted them again Monday, and they couldn't find the vehicle, computer said it's getting an oil and filter change, and he would call back when it's done - no response. I Contacted him again Tuesday, asking if he was able to find the car yet, said he would talk to his manager to locate it - never contacted me back. I called Wednesday and asked to speak to the used car sales manager - the receptionist said they don't have one - what?!? Okay then, how about a new car sales manager? She struggled to find out who it was, finally transferred me, no answer, I left a voicemail and never got a call back. Called again, and asked for a different sales person - she informed me the vehicle was out of service and she would try to find it and call me back - no response. I got a text message later that day saying the car had sold that morning. Good help is hard to find, but this dealership hired all the useless help apparently. Bought my car from here 5 years ago and it was a smooth process. This review is for their Service Department. Took my car in two days ago because it kept randomly dying and the headlights were flickering. They said everything checked out normal and could they not "duplicate the problem." They then told me to record the problem on my phone then schedule another appointment. I already had to take 3 hours off work because their hours suck. Not doing it again. Here I am, two days later, stranded in the grocery store parking lot with a dead car because Dan Deery told me there was nothing wrong with my car. This isn't the first time something like this has happened with them. I've definitely learned my lesson this time--I will NEVER go back. Update: I've since revised my review. After submitting this, Brian from Dan Deery reached out to me. I gave him a call and he offered to take a look at my car again. I had already gotten it fixed elsewhere, so Brian offered to cover my next service for free. Today I got the certificate in the mail. I'm really impressed by the promptness and action taken on Brian's end. We'll see how my next visit goes. read more

I bought a suzuki verona from this dealership maybe a month ago. It drove back to marshalltown fine. After a few days I figured oh maybe it needs brake pads, maybe a bearing. Turns out one of the lower control arms was snapped in half, and the other is not far behind it. They are the most trusted things I've ever seen. I realized how dangerous this could be driving with my 1 year old son in the car. I think I've barely driven 100 miles on it, just because I drove it back from cedar falls to marshalltown. It will cost me nearly 1200 to get fixed but these people insisted my car was worth 2600 for the "quality". Doesn't seem right to me. read more

The level of disappointment that we have with Dan Deery is astounding. We have purchased 5+ vehicles from them. We purchased our last vehicle from them last week. The vehicle we purchased was very low priced and we had no expectations that it would be perfect. We did expect that any issues would be disclosed before purchase especially since we had trouble deciding between the one we got and another. We also expected that a vehicle that needs as much in repair cost as we paid for the actual vehicle would be labeled mechanic special we know that they do this. The vehicle broke down 15 minutes after we drove off the lot and they didn't care at all. In fact, the attitude we got was ridiculous. Yes we sign a paper that they are not responsible but as a loyal customer who has all servicing done with them and only buys vehicles from them, we expected more. We expected honesty upfront about issues (which they had to know about unless they are mechanically incompetent)and we expected them to at least pretend to care about our loyalty to them. Not that it matters to Dan Deery, but our business and recommendations will go elsewhere. read more

I just got off the phone with this dealership. They are terrible. They wouldn't honestly tell me the condition of a used 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. Sales manager said he wouldn't sell this car to his daughter and that Volkswagen makes bad cars. Then we asked him if he recommended toyotas he was all happy and excited about it.
