I hired Danny to do my 120SQFT backyard office with level 5 finishing. A couple thing worth mentioning. I got a quote from him just by providing the permit drawing and quoting was smooth. Danny cares about quality of the work and he takes his time to get the drywall right. A lot of contractors wants to hurry and finish the work but he is not. I initially thought I was getting a good value with Dan Pena Drywall as their bid for a popcorn ceiling removal, smoothing of the walls, and repainting the entire interior was by far the most competitive. However it has proven to be a major disaster that would cost far more to fix. Not only were there major delays and cost overruns, the drywall is now easily damaged by a mere bump. Worse of all, the paint has started to come off like paper. This is completely unacceptable. They are promised to address these issues, but have never shown up. Be aware! Update: The owner is now harassing me saying that I was never a customer and have the wrong business. This is downright dishonest and shows how desperate they are to remove the review. Danny said he didn't need my review but here I am because I feel that great contractors are hard to come by after my experience in working with so many the past 2 months. (looks like others felt the same as I was supposed to be review 100!) I feel grateful that I was able to have Danny, Davin and Angel repair the drywall for my ceiling after water damage. Their work and work ethic is impeccable. I definitely took the time to vet all the drywall contractors (believe me, there were many) before making a final decision as the ceiling that needed repairs was in the middle of the room. It was time consuming and tiring, but it needed to be done. I was definitely swayed by the great reviews and the pictures, but talking to Danny and Davin in person sealed the deal. Though Danny's quote averaged on the higher end from my quotes, I felt his results and professionalism justified the cost and was a fair price. I was worried since many others only did drywall installation and called it a day (low-quality work) -- Dan Pena did it all from end to end. Danny, Sal, and Davin were all amazing to work with. Don't risk it with other drywall repair guys on Yelp, most of them here don't even have contractor licenses! I found these guys through the CSLB after calling nearly a dozen others and rejecting them because they did not have C-9 license. In the end, I received 3 quotes from licensed drywall contractors and and went with Dan Peña because they were very communicative, flexible with timing, and seemed to care about minimizing debris. We had a fairly large project, costing about $6,000 in drywall repairs alone after having in-wall speakers and network cable installed throughout our townhouse. These guys were very flexible, communicative, and transparent about the work that needed to be done. They were also thoughtful in execution to minimize collateral damage to furniture and flooring. The repairs were finished to the point where we can't even tell that the walls were ever opened up, which is amazing given our orange peel wall texture. The one point of semi-negative feedback I'd have is around billing and quote generation, and even then, part of that is my fault for adding things halfway through. I had Danny come out to tear out the sheet rock of a bathroom ceiling (approx 9' x 5') as I had a new Panasonic exhaust fan installed by another contractor. Danny covered the area to keep it dust free and had the sheet rock removed in about 1.5 hours. He also brought over his son who helped out. He then put up the 1/2" new sheet rock, taped the seems and covered with all purpose compound. Danny does texture in stages to let it dry and then cover so it does not crack. He came back later in the day for another thin layer, then back the following day to finish texture (hand trowel). Very happy with his work, he is personable and easy to talk to. I also had him patch a few pieces in another bathroom and kitchen at additional cost. He charged $360 to tear down and put up new sheet rock on 9' x 5' bathroom ceiling and texture which I feel is a fair rate. 5 stars, highly recommended. read more

While we were out of town over the 4th of July, our home was flooded with a major water leak. Holes in ceiling, pieces of ceiling fell, walls and flooring in several areas impacted. Impossible to find one company that would take on all elements of repair. Found emergency plumbers who found starting point of leak. At the time I ended up going into the hospital for Colon cancer surgery and could not return to a wet, damaged, house. The dry out company couldn't do repairs.
