I asked him to open up an attic access in the kitchen ceiling, but he suggested to do the attic access in the hallway instead where it would not be an eyesore. Great idea! Also, he reminded me that after putting in the drywall in the garage, that the City Building and Planning department first needs to do a Rough Inspection, before they can proceed with putting fire tape on fire rated drywall seams. This is the third or fourth time I've come to Peña Drywall for help, over the past 10 years. Roof leaks, plumbing leaks, what can I say, the sheetrock reaper follows me relentlessly. It's amazing what just a couple gallons of water can do when it leaks through seams in sheetrock. Jim and crew took care of my repair from start to finish without me having to barely lift a finger. I asked Jim if he would general a floor replacement (vinyl replaced with tile), and he took care of it. Jerry and Scott, Mario for flooring, and the painters, they were all a pleasure to work with. They hooked up my washer and dryer, put my laundry doors back on, and went the extra mile, offering to do things like reinstall a can light and go get a new dryer vent hose to save me the trouble. I highly recommend Pena Drywall for their impeccable work. This was my second time working with them. The first time was about 3-4 years ago. Recently, I had a plumbing company over to fix a leaked pipe. When finished, they tried to patch a hole on the ceiling (attached photo: drywall ceiling hole), but the patch looked botched (attached photos: botched 1 and botched 2). The drywall surface was uneven, and the paint color did not blend with the original. I provided the paint, and to be fair, these pictures were taken days after it was repainted. I called Pena Drywall for help. The business owner (Jim) said they were super busy, but he would see if his son (Jimmy) could help out. Lucky for me, Jimmy was able to take on the work. Jimmy was very professional. Before starting any work, he came by to examine the area, and gave a quote. He also explained the process and how long it would take. I thanked him for not charging me an arm and a leg, knowing how desperately I wanted to get that fix. I would have paid premium just because of my previous experience with the company. And just like the first time, Jimmy did an amazing job fixing the botched area. The new and existing areas blended together perfectly. I have an eye for detail. I recently used Pena for a small drywall repair project in my garage to repair water damage adjacent to my leaking water heater. It was urgent, because I really wanted to get my hot water back, and needed the dry wall around it replaced before the new hot water heater could go in. My restoration man (Bay Proz Restoration) recommended Pena for the drywall work. Jim answered the phone right away, and got me an estimate for the work over the phone based on pictures I sent him of the area to be repaired. It was a small project, at a reasonable price, and he arranged for his guys to come out the next morning. They completed the project--drywall and mudding--in two hours. I got Jim's name through a friend of mine who is a painter. I asked him if he knew of a good taping company he could recommend. Without hesitation, he said call Pena Drywall. So I called Jim Pena right away for a bid. It was a big job for me, all the ceilings and walls in practically out whole house. His price was similar to my other offer, but his availability and responsiveness was what made the difference. I just liked his attitude plus I had been given a strong recommendation from my friend. Later during the job, I asked Jim how long he'd known my painter friend. He looked a little puzzled and didn't say much. So when I told my friend about Jim and his guys doing a great job for me, he told me I never met him, I've just seen his work! I smiled and said I'm so glad I had Pena do my job. I have an 1700 sq/ft 1950s house that needed new drywall throughout. I met with 5 different contractors to insulate and drywall. Jim was the only one I felt stood out with experience to overcome all the challenges an older home offers: crooked framing, retrofit window returns, old and new construction. Jim Pena did a terrible job on my drywall. Zero stars. But that's not all. BEWARE! Be clear with him and make sure that they clean up after themselves and protect your property and don't use your personal items. First, his team is messy and didn't clean up after themselves. They did not protect anything. Second, they did a terrible job leaving knifing marks in the drywall everywhere. And he didn't listen to me. We had a 1/2 hour conversation about the kind of finish I wanted on my walls. After tearing out my whole house to do smooth walls he came in and matched the one wall standing - old word. Texture everywhere. I have a modern home and he put Spanish texture all over it. Completely did not communicate to his workers what was to be done. And refused to fix it. Thirdly he damaged my property: They used my personal vacuum a $500 Shark to clean up drywall, but left drywall all over my ceiling lights and all over my hardwood floors. They also moved a brand new expensive bathtub ($4000) in and out of a room and scraped the whole side of the tub. He didn't cover the brand new $600 Koehler tub over shower and left it coated in drywall mud. My floors don't get me started - just look at the photos of my hardwood damage. It cost me $3700 to repair and replace the items he damaged. He was the only worker in my home at the time. Do not use this guy. He's shifty and his practices are not up to CSLB standards. ++++MY RESPONSE TO PENA DRYWALL++++++ I am updating my review, based on Pena's Drywall response for all his potential customers and not for him. Notice Pena doesn't respond to the photographic documentation. What about all of the drywall all over my floor, the knife marks in the work Pena did, etc. His quote also clearly states he will patch around windows and new construction. Please see photo where he did not finish window. First, my vacuum was $500. I provided Pena's insurance company a receipt for the Shark which not a $100 machine. It's a lift away purchased on sharkdotcom. Sharkdotcom presently, sells the vacuum for $399, not including all the attachments. The vacuum was filled with drywall, so the facts speak for themselves. We have video of this. We have hardcore proof. The reason why Pena's insurance provider didn't cover the damages: (a.) Pena told the insurance company other contractors were on the job when Pena was the only contractor during that time period (b.) Pena didn't have sufficient coverage for making my walls warped and crooked. Second, I didn't change my mind. I've been living with this design. I have a design guide. I held in-person meetings with Pena stating that I wanted the walls as smooth as possible. Pena and I discussed the difference between level 5, etc. The standard and cheapest finish is Old World. Pena didn't listen to me and sent off a quote that was not relevant to our discussion. That's on him. We did not receive the services he listed in the bid. I will note: In the text messages Pena sent me, he stated that he NEVER talked to me or met with me. Third, Pena has no idea what we went through - so thanks for confirmation of defamation and liable against our character by Pena and via the GC. Fourth, the repairs to the tub couldn't be rubbed out. We had to reglaze it. I am happy to post that receipt, too. Pena admits in his response they moved items. Pena moved the tub out of the bathroom and didn't turn it sideways so that it would be the right width for fit. Pena scraped acrylic off the finish on three sides. You can clearly in the photos posted. I have no idea what Pena is talking about that it could be rubbed out. He did not have this conversation with my husband, who photographed the tub in detail and hired the glazer. Fifth, If I was such a liar, why do I have photographic evidence of all of the items I listed? Drywall on the floors, in the bathtub, scratches on floor and tub. I have receipts for all repairs...as well as, video of the drywall that clogged and ruined my vacuum. Pena treated my property terribly and did not properly protect my property or clean up after himself. His guys would pee into bottles and leave them inside the house. DISGUSTING! There was a porta potty! Sixth, Pena told me that he didn't give the GC any quote for repairs. Pena contradicts himself in his own stories and took no accountability for the damage he did to my property. If my vacuum was only $100 - as a courtesy to promote good will - examine the vacuum yourself and buy a new one. Especially if your guys made the mistake of using the vacuum onsite. Clean and protect people's property. Double check the work of your crew. People who don't tell the truth never get their facts straight. My facts are straight. I had a consumer experience with Pena Drywall. I met with Pena Drywall, have phone records, notes from our meetings and text messages. Of the many aspects of the construction process, drywall seemed to be one of our weak areas understanding, what to expect and how much it would cost, and how fast we could have the job start - -but with Jim's help we got up to speed quick with the details and choices of finishes. His prices are very reasonable compared to other estimates we received. His assessment during the consultation was professional and his confidence and common sense explanations helps put you at ease. Jim is one of the experts we were GLAD to have help us on our project. And if you've done work with enough contractors you know what I mean. We made some adjustments to our original work order but we are glad when Jim was able to accommodate our changes. He also provided some little extras without charge to make sure his end product is as nice looking as we would hope. Responsive, flexible, and professional! I finally decide to remove the popcorn ceiling at a rental property.... yuck! When you're dealing with a rental property, the challenge is always how quickly you can get the property turnaround. Jim was very responsive and was able to give me a FIRM quote and schedule. I have had Pena Drywall perform several projects for my house so far and they have done an excellent job! I had my pop corn ceilings removed, textured and repainted. I had a wood wall removed, textured and repainted. I also had dry walls patched, fixed, textured and repainted after they were cut open for electrical work and plumbing work. They are responsible, reasonable, easy to get ahold of and go the extra mile. They noticed and fixed things that I didn't. They offered to fix up the old closet that had my heater in it (that was moved) and make it a usable closet.
