The pricing for an 8-week course (2hr session) seems pretty reasonable compared to other language schools - it's not the cheapest, but it's not super expensive. I really appreciated the school's administrator's quick responses to all of my questions prior to registering for my course. The school's website provides VERY detailed information about registering for courses, refunds, time commitments, etc. My professor (Rossy) is amazing and very patient in helping her class reach its language goals. LOL, I think she has a worksheet/example for EVERY possible linguistic situation. I do appreciate the small class size, which gives all students a chance to have a more personal experience. Actually, I was quite shocked (in a good way) that a couple other students have been working with Rossy for over five years. Although most of the courses are virtual (I could be wrong about this), I wish that there were some in-person courses/options especially for the weekend sessions. However, I understand that times are changing, and we as a society are moving to a more virtual world. Perhaps, this is outside of ISL's responsibility, but I wouldn't mind the incorporation of at least one in-person event/experience within course. However, I guess arranging an in-person event/excursion could be left to the discretion of the the course's professor and/or the students. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend ISL.

Our two boys had a bad experience with this camp. One of our sons participated in the one focused…read moreon nutrition and cooking. He got very sick, and was one of three kids who were sent home in one day. We took him to the ER after learning he passed out at camp and after multiple calls with counselors and the owner, we still had no idea what happened to him. His symptoms were that of heat exhaustion or a concussion but the counselors' recalls of what happen were misaligned. In addition, from our son we learned that they had limited outdoor time and when he came home each day before his incident he said "I need to get my energy out, we stayed inside most of the day". I also noticed that the camper to counselor ratio was not great and was skeptical about sending both boys the following week. The next week we decided to send both boys to keep our schedules intact (I realize we should not have sent them after week one's incident) and they complained about the camp each day, saying they were stuck inside all day and they didn't do many activities. They also said the facilities were cramped and "dirty". On Wednesday there was a "suspected" lice outbreak. We pulled them out of the camp on Wednesday and they didn't attend the final days. Finally, unbeknownst to the camp counselors, our son exchanged one of his crocs with a new friends. We communicated with the counselors and owner to exchange the shoes and they were unwilling to help. They actually never replied to multiple emails and didn't return our call. Should my son have done that? No, of course not and I should have noticed before we headed home that Wednesday. But the lack of communication when we sought help, and the lack of oversight from their hired staff gives indication that the camp isn't run well and is overprescribed. The name SmartFit Kids is a misleading name for a camp that neither focuses on development, health or safety.

I think my skill level was a bit beyond the beginner class, but they only offered beginner and it was excellent to be able to refresh my skills. I was especially glad to get to hear and speak in real time. There weren't as many visuals or handouts/learning aids as I prefer, but I took notes for myself to learn from. The cost of the class was very reasonable. Overall, when time allows, I'll happily enroll in another class with GLN. GLN is offering a great service.

DC has a lot of competent, busy, intelligent people who will support this type of thing, but they are careless with their time, money, and resources. I don't doubt some classes are great, but some classes are truly terrible (if they take place at all).

My two kids currently attend the in person sessions on Sundays and they love learning Chinese at CLSC. They look forward to seeing their friends and teachers each week. I looked forward to being around people who enjoyed teaching English, and meeting students from all around the world. If I ever came across a family member or friend who needed English support, I would definitely send them here as well. From a volunteer perspective, the Center provides so much support and training for its teachers (who do not need to be professional teachers, so this helps), including a ready-made curriculum and textbooks. Though I've been an ESL tutor in the past, having this institutional support was important for me as I wanted to be well-prepared for my students. The teaching set-up also requires each class to be taught by two teachers, which is very helpful! The students come from all around the world and have many different reasons for being in the program. I loved laughing with them, learning from them (as well as my co-teachers!!), and even learning a few things about the English language myself.
