Staff was friendly and helpful at the door. The inside was dark when we arrived and it would've been nice to have some house lights so people could find their way around the venue a little easier. The AC was cranking and the temp was comfortable. Upstairs has standing room and some bleachers which provides a good view with less of a crowd. Their VIP area looks nice and I'd be interested in splurging next time for a seat and a better view. There's bars downstairs and upstairs and even some food concessions. Getting out of the venue from the balcony was a bit stressful with only one way out. It makes you imagine what would happen if you needed to get out in a rush... other than that, it's a good space.

It's mostly standing room but you can get a seat for accessibility reasons or if you pay for VIP.

The female caller was inclusive and direct, re-teaching steps when she saw some groups struggling, and she had great chemistry with her band. You really don't need to know anything about square dancing, she taught everything you needed to know. It was my first time square dancing, and although I was anxious about switching partners/dancing with strangers, it seemed like the caller took that into account: you start with just your partner, then find another couple, then you find two other couples, and all these formations ease you into switching partners. I was sweating by dance #2, but I stuck around until the band took a break after 1.5 hours. I had three complaints: her mic was not loud enough, the water machine was broken, and not enough chairs for folks taking a break. However, besides those concerns, square dancing made for a great, affordable date night.

The rooftop and open-air area is so nice and gives you the perfect place to hang out, catch a little air, and still feel part of the energy, which feels like a very strong social advantage. The drinks here are seriously so good. I always go for a crush, usually grapefruit, while my husband reliably orders the porn star martini, and both are excellent. The orange crush is also great, but the grapefruit is probably my favorite. The fact that they fresh squeeze the juice right at the bar is kind of crazy and honestly feels pretty unique in the District. As for the porn star martini, it is insanely good, and the alcoholic passion fruit foam takes it completely over the top in the best way. The bartenders are incredible and so kind, which always makes a place stand out more, and the music is always great. They also have frequent live DJs in house, which keeps the vibe fun and does a great job of highlighting local talent. Every time I have been, it has been a really great time from start to finish. Overall, Crush is the kind of place that makes it very easy to stay for one more drink and a little longer than planned. I will absolutely keep coming back.
