I would not recommend this studio, and I say that as a concerned and disappointed parent…read more There's a clear pattern of favoritism here. Certain dancers -- mostly those with a strong social media following or close ties to staff such as other teachers or those who are helpers-- are consistently highlighted online and given special treatment. Despite parents signing media consent forms, it's always the same few girls being promoted. These dancers receive extra attention, better solo choreography, and are often allowed to miss rehearsals for other commitments like modeling or outside competitions -- while other students are held to a much stricter standard. What's worse is that these same students are allowed to critique others openly, which creates a toxic environment. The studio claims to promote unity and a safe space for all dancers, but in reality, it fosters division and discouragement. Talented dancers are repeatedly pushed to the back while those less technically skilled are front and center -- simply because of favoritism. Sadly, some students are even spoken about negatively in front of others, including by the director herself. From discussing student performance to sharing private comments about parents and finances, it's not the kind of professionalism you expect when trusting someone with your child's growth and development. You sit here and judge other studios yet they are catching up to you. Many of us see it. We hear the comments, notice the behavior, and recognize how it's affecting our kids. Dance should be about self-expression, confidence, and love for the art -- not favoritism, criticism, and exclusion. When kids lose their passion for something they once loved, it's a sign something deeper is wrong. If you're considering this studio, I encourage you to look at the full picture and ask whether it's truly a supportive space for all dancers -- not just a chosen few.

New to Southwest Florida, it's been fun checking out what-there-is-to-do in the area. Having seen…read moremy share of Neil Simon shows on Broadway, the production of "Rumors" in Port Charlotte piqued my interest. As this is not a review of the show -- the program changes regularly -- I'll write generic observations. The building is on a dark street; if there wasn't signage, you might question whether you're in the right place. You are! Park the car -- plenty of spots on the premises-- and walk in. You might use the restroom before the show. There are three bathrooms. Sounds like a lot? Nope. Three bathrooms, each with one toilet. (I'd hate to see the lines during intermission.) The theater is intimate. Not a bad seat in the place. A professional-looking set is on stage. And if you want to buy wine or candy, there's a concession stand in the lobby. Langdon Playhouse is the home of the Charlotte Players. As a fan of off and off-off B'way, I like to patronize local theater. The staff here, mostly volunteer, is exuberant. They're happy to be there, and anxious to keep the legacy going. 50-50 raffles are sold prior to the show. Half the proceeds are presented as scholarships to deserving kids pursuing the arts. Check the theater out. You'll be greeted warmly. And btw, no empty seats Saturday night. The Charlotte Players have a following!

There was social distancing in the seating. This was a cute play about a Mom who appears as a ghost, but only the one daughter Kat can see and communicate with her. There's another daughter, and a suitor for Kat, of course there is the Dad as well as his new girlfriend, also a hilarious neighbor called Mrs. Nordquist. All ably played by Wendi Scianna (who pretty much ran the whole show), Gloria Bandy, Terry Williams, Marilyn Barton, Brittany Campbell, Jim Manns and Henry Reisinger, Jr.
