New to Southwest Florida, it's been fun checking out what-there-is-to-do in the area. Having seen…read moremy share of Neil Simon shows on Broadway, the production of "Rumors" in Port Charlotte piqued my interest. As this is not a review of the show -- the program changes regularly -- I'll write generic observations. The building is on a dark street; if there wasn't signage, you might question whether you're in the right place. You are! Park the car -- plenty of spots on the premises-- and walk in. You might use the restroom before the show. There are three bathrooms. Sounds like a lot? Nope. Three bathrooms, each with one toilet. (I'd hate to see the lines during intermission.) The theater is intimate. Not a bad seat in the place. A professional-looking set is on stage. And if you want to buy wine or candy, there's a concession stand in the lobby. Langdon Playhouse is the home of the Charlotte Players. As a fan of off and off-off B'way, I like to patronize local theater. The staff here, mostly volunteer, is exuberant. They're happy to be there, and anxious to keep the legacy going. 50-50 raffles are sold prior to the show. Half the proceeds are presented as scholarships to deserving kids pursuing the arts. Check the theater out. You'll be greeted warmly. And btw, no empty seats Saturday night. The Charlotte Players have a following!

Last night my friend Kathy invited me to see a play here called "MOM'S GIFT". I was a bit reluctant…read moreto go since we were required to wear masks throughout the performance. There was social distancing in the seating. This was a cute play about a Mom who appears as a ghost, but only the one daughter Kat can see and communicate with her. There's another daughter, and a suitor for Kat, of course there is the Dad as well as his new girlfriend, also a hilarious neighbor called Mrs. Nordquist. All ably played by Wendi Scianna (who pretty much ran the whole show), Gloria Bandy, Terry Williams, Marilyn Barton, Brittany Campbell, Jim Manns and Henry Reisinger, Jr.
