I continue to be very disappointed in the YMCA of Venice. Another series of altercations this morning, this time with trainers, who insist that they are in control of all facilities and services. Such rude and arrogant behavior is nothing new at the YMCA of Venice. read more

The past five months have brought about many challenges that gyms could have never imagined. This YMCA seems totally committed to their members and frontline employees as they work through the current pandemic risks providing us with a safe venue for exercising. To maintain our health and safety, they are doing member temperature checks at the door, spacing out exercise equipment for social distancing and staff is constantly cleaning equipment and exercise areas. There's also an abundance of paper towels and sanitizer for members to wipe down each piece of gym equipment before and after exercising. While the exercise floor is not quite the same as it was pre-COVID-19, this YMCA clearly understands the importance of maintaining your physical health and we can get a terrific resistance strength training or cardio workout here. I'm happy to call this YMCA my local gym. Enjoy! read more

Lets be honest it's a gym what do you expect. well I expect a whole lot more for the price they charge $60+ a month. Firstly, equipment is in bad shape and does not seem to be kept up to standards especially cleanliness wise. Secondly, most of the trainers here are pretty great although "LUCIA" tends to get on my nerves. I would walk to a machine that has nobody on it and she would shoo me away saying she's training someone on it? who she training a ghost. she should really be more polite to the regular gym goers. Thirdly, they have got some new equipment not a lot! Buy, the floors seem to be here since the ancient Roman days. The worst part is it's the only decent place to go in Venice, Fl if you do not want to deal with planet fitness. read more

Even though we have been members for several years we are beginning to question the value of our membership due to a sharp decline in maintenance of the facility. As other members have said, you could join other health clubs for less money if you only want to work out. But a significant portion of patrons are seniors, and we are the ones who especially value the relaxation amenities such as the spa, steamroom, and sauna. As often as not, at least in the men's side, two of those three things are not working, and as a result, the one functional area is so crowded that it is unusable. Other irritants include washrooms that are often out of paper products, and machines such as bicycles whose screens do not work properly. it all seems to be a case of short sightedness, where upper management is unwilling to spend the money to keep the facility up and running properly. For heaven's sake, hire more staff as necessary, and keep things up and running by either keeping extra parts on hand, or replacing things that are worn out. It is a nice facility and it's a shame to watch it decline where members are leaving and going elsewhere read more

Usually I am very happy with the YMCA but recently they started closing the pool and jacuzzi early. I plan my days around the posted pool hours and when you close at 1:00 pm with posted 4pm close time on Saturdays, it just feels very unfair for the members. When asking the young lifeguard, it was stated "that they aren't making enough money to work and to just close it." Very disappointed. read more

We just moved to the area, and I was looking for a fitness facility that would be good for the whole family. We decided to sign up at the SKY family YMCA because it has a huge weight lighting area, cardio equipment, lots and lots of classes, and kids are welcomed. The weight lifting area is on the main level and offers many different of types of equipment such as free weights and free motion machines. They have treadmills, steppers, bicycles, and other types of cardio equipment all located on the second level Oh my, this facility has classes ranging from yoga to body pump. Lastly, they have a kids area where you can drop off your child with a maximum time limit of 1.5 hours, and it's included in your membership. Depending on the age of your child, they offer the opportunity for them to workout and stretch with you as long as they take the classes. Overall, this was a good decision for our family. We are excited to use all the services at this YMCA!! read more

Use to come here but had to stop when I got no support from staff regarding a man who did laps in the pool with no regard to others trying to exercise in it. I tried to avoid conflict by using the "non-lap side" of the pool doing jogging in place moves and the guy got verbally abusive and loud because he felt I was in his way. Well, why are you doing laps on the side that is supposed to be for people like us?! Not a word from the life guard on duty or the staff in the office. This was not the first time this older guy had been at the pool doing laps without regards to others who are trying to enjoy the pool as well. If you're paying over $60 a month for the use, shouldn't you have a right to enjoy the pool as well? I remember when the YMCA stood for something but all these companies have become deaf, blind and dum, and have their own agenda's and are only interested in one thing........money. My advice, spend your money somewhere that values your opinion and allows fairness. read more

Due to illness of a family member the facility was never used by my family. I "held" the account for 6 months and started it back up this April. I received a bill for returned charges due to a changed CC number (fraud protection). When I called to request why there was a returned fee the person who answered was not unhelpful and rude. I won't be returning to the Venice YMCA. read more

I enjoyed going to work out each morning at the Y. It is located in a very convenient location. The staff could use a bit more enthusiasm as members go in and out. There are very few staff members that put in that effort, but for those that do...it's appreciated. The equipment is decent. They seem to be adding new things. When they changed things around, they took out a place where many of us would work out doing different things besides machines which wasn't the best decision they've made. Great location. Good equipment. They absolutely need new child care areas. They group all the children together no matter the age in a small room. Maybe implement activity classes for those children above the "toy" age but not quite ready for the gym floor? Lots of room to improve but overall decent wellness center for the price. read more

One word description of Customer Service is "Surly". Not a comforting encounter. Customer Service training is needed desperately!

My weekdays start here M-F, and the staff has never failed to be courteous (even at 0500, which is when I show up). The equipment is always clean and in good repair, and there is plenty of it. The locker rooms are roomy, plenty of showers, and the outdoor hot tub before the sun comes up is an experience I recommend to anyone. The childcare is excellent. My eight year old son loves going, they greet him by name, and he feels like they're his friends. Overall, outstanding gym. read more

This gym offers great classes, but they are always crowded. There is nothing more frustrating than making the time and effort to get to a gym only to find that you are unable to get into a class. I've taken spin, body pump, yoga, pilates, and barre classes. The instructors have all been fantastic, with the exception of one. I would NOT recommend taking a yoga class given by Donna. Otherwise, all the instructors have been fantastic. Because of the overcrowded classes, I would suggest the Y provide an online sign up system for classes. At least clients would be saved the frustration of getting to the gym only to find out the class is full. read more

WIfe and I joined and did not like it. Old equipment and people did not clean up. We canceled our membership on 19 Feb. On 1 Mar they took money from my account. I asked why. They said, if you do not cancel by the 15th of the month, you will be charged for an additional month. That's B.S. Especially since she took our membership cards. Paid 45 days and not able to use. Has a great outdoor pool and the locker rooms are complete with both sauna and steam room. Many of the group classes are geared towards the population, which tends to be older, but Lisa Taylor's classes are good for people of all age! She's great! read more

This is the best place available to work out in this area. The pool and jacuzzi are very nice, with water aerobics.All kinds of fitness classes, but they could stand to add more variety, such as Barre, Pound, etc. Since there is an elderly population that works out here, many of the classes are not challenging enough. I noticed when we traveled around the country this summer and I took similar classes, they were more difficult. The atmosphere is somewhat cold, but as you get to know staff and members, it becomes a friendlier place. Watch out for the morning Zumba classes. Some of the women can become very territorial, and sometimes even nasty, mostly during season. This really surprised me because it is a Y, and behavior like this should not be seen here. For $49 per month, it is a good value if you take many classes per week. read more

Doesn't feel as family-friendly or welcoming as it did 20 years ago, the last time I was there. Different management, I guess. Feels commercial gym-like and cold. Does have a nice outdoor pool with plenty of chairs to soak up the sun. Outdoor jacuzzi is also a plus. read more

I enjoy the line dancing classes with Bonnie Judy. She is so patient with all beginners and makes dancing a lot of fun. It's the best exercise for weight control and it's a lot of fun! Her Wednesday classes include improver dances and my fit bit loves the step count afterwards. read more

This YMCA cannot accommodate the number of people taking classes. Actually if the fire department checked on this gym they probably would not allow overcrowded rooms.Overcrowded classes, ladies bathroom has only about two sinks that works and the water only dribbles from the faucet. Most times towel and soap dispensers are empty or broken. Cleanliness is a real issue. The ceiling in one studio has a suspended ceiling tile that has been missing for over a year. Consequently the electrical wires are exposed. They previously had a real issue with mold in the ceilings too. Parking is a real problem as there is not enough and people walk through the mud and dirt and drag it into the studios where we work out on the dirty floors. And all this and they are trying to recruit more members. On top of that they raise the fees and do not even notify members of the increase, if you have auto deduct from the bank. I pay a whopping 52.00 a month for this less than desirable gym. read more
