This man is a charlatan. I went to his office due to multiple eye problems. When I got there, they sent me through the regular set of machines, which was fine. However, when it came time to actually talk to Dr. Beers, I only saw him for about 60 seconds. He dismissed all my concerns, and wrote a prescription for eyeglasses based on his 60 second exam. None of the glasses I got helped my vision in anyway whatsoever. read more

I called this clinic to ask about the cost of cataract surgery for my dad. When I mentioned his insurance, the receptionist immediately said they couldn't accept it. That would have been fine if they were still willing to help or let us pay out of pocket. Instead, they refused to provide any information or assistance. It was clear they were judging us based on the insurance alone, not our ability to pay. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience. Dr. Beers is an expert and a genius at cataract surgery!! He did his magically calculations to target what diopters I wanted for my eyes, and he achieved them almost perfectly!! I hardly felt any pain and was impressed that my left eye and right eye operations were completed in about 10 mins each! The only sting was a few seconds from eye drops and a little pressure for 15 seconds on my right eye. I recovered 80 percent within 24 hours. And was up and running after a day of sleep after the operation. I have a story to tell that is funny and has a lesson that I have not heard from anybody else. It is also an epiphany for me. I went to Tammy's home and noticed that they have repainted all the condos to beautiful bright multi colors that I've never seen before. I told Amy and Tammy that I really like her new paint on the exterior of her condos. They must be very special, expensive paint that is from a new technology. I was surprised when both Tammy and Amy replied by saying that they have not repainted the exterior of the condos!! They were the original colors from over 12 years ago. It took me a couple of days before I had an epiphany of what really happened. I was checking my left eye vision against my right eye by reading words from a white piece of paper. I just had cataract surgery with a new lens inserted into my left eye. I was quite surprised that my cataract right eye did not see a white paper but instead it looks like a slightly tan/ beige color paper. Likewise, I guess for the past 12 years the lens in both of my eyes was slightly tinted by tan/ beige color. The new lens in my left eye allowed me to see colors more vividly. I think that is why the colors of Tammy's condo suddenly seems so vivid and bright!! read more

Hi, I can see for the first time in decades without glasses. The procedure took 2 separate days and some appointments. The staff is very nice- particularly Georgina. Dr Beers did the procedure and it was painless for me. They were also helpful in filing the paperwork for the FSA. I asked many many people and Dr. Beers was recommended by 4 friends in Cupertino. I can see why. It's life changing to wake up and see. I don't need to carry around saline solution when I travel. I wish I had done it earlier. read more

I went in twice to see Dr. Beers to diagnose a sudden change in my vision. I wanted help with understanding why the change was happening, but all he wanted to do was play optometrist and get me a prescription for glasses. I told him I had an optometrist and what he was doing wasn't useful to me, somehow that wasn't direct enough for him to understand. He will be remembered as among the worst doctors I've seen: wasted my time, hardly spent any time with me, offered off-the-cuff diagnosis when pressed that didn't fit and only stressed me out, didn't listen to me, and didn't pay attention to my case. I went to another practice that was in the same building as him (but not affiliated) and immediately had a great experience that cleared things up immensely. My case wasn't that challenging after all. Edit: The day after I wrote this review (11/19/2019) they issued me an angry looking bill of $15.00 for "document copying" saying that they were going to go to collections soon for it. I called their reception and said that I already paid the fee the day I got documents from them. Reception agreed and cleared the charge from my account. Did not have a good experience with Dr. Beers. He only became my Doctor after Dr. Volpicelli left the practice a few years ago. In short, I had a huge blockage in my left eye due to what is known as a "PVD". I asked him directly if there was a laser treatment for my condition and he basically said "no, you'll just have to learn to live with it". All the while with a smug condescending smile on his face as if I should just "suck it up and stop being a baby". Well I'm far from a baby. This was not a typical "Floater" as he implied. It was a near complete blockage of the vision in my left eye. I could barely read text on my computer and driving at night was a hazard. To make matters worse, there IS a procedure with a laser that DOES treat my condition. It's called "Laser Vitrectomy". There are two Doctors right here in my area that perform the procedure. I personally went to Dr. James Fisher in Irvine, CA who specializes in Laser Vitrectomy. It's all he does. His treatment removed 80% of the blockage and now I am living a normal life once again. I am very disappointed in Dr. Beers. He is not a quality Doctor like Dr. Volpicelli was and myself and my family will not be going back. My son needs Lasik but after the treatment (or lack thereof) I received from Dr. Beers and his smug condescending attitude we would never trust him with our Children's eyes again. There are many reviews online complaining that he just doesn't seem to care unless you're going to be a big ticket customer and I have to concur that I got the very same feeling. It was like I was wasting his time. The fact that he was not even aware of a commonly known procedure that has been around for 10 years tells me that he either doesn't care enough to stay apprised of modern techniques, or the procedure is not profitable enough for him to bother with. Very disappointed that I trusted him. If I had taken his advice I would still be living with near blindness in one eye, when there was a viable option for me. read more

Once again, Dr. Beers, his great staff, and the most wonderful Brenda Phelps in the optical shop attached to Dr. Beers' offices have given me a truly five star experience! I saw the good doctor a few days ago for my eye exam, but had to leave right afterward to get to work for a meeting. I returned to the optical shop this afternoon to see Brenda. As always, she is very warm, friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. She had me try on quite a few frames and I ended up getting another great pair! When they arrive she'll let me know as she always does, and I'll come back in to pick them up. I really enjoy seeing her, not just for the great service she provides, but also for her wonderful personality. I also wanted to spotlight Dr. Beers' great colleague, Meghan, who did the first part of my eye exam a few days ago. If I could give Dr. Beers and his staff a rating higher than 5 stars I would. I recently had cataract surgery completed on both eyes by Dr. Beers. I have have been wearing glasses since I was 12 years old and my vision was growing cloudy. Just a few weeks later and now my vision is 20-20 in both eyes and I can see details I have never been able to see my whole life. It truly is a miracle. ( I did notice I have a few more wrinkles in my face than I thought I had.) Dr. Beers does his work at the Peninsula Eye Surgery Center in Mountain View. This is a small facility (6-8 patients) dedicated to only eye surgeries. It is easy-in and easy-out. I can't say enough about the care I got while I was there and I even counted more nurses than patients. Prior to the operation, Dr. Beers stopped by and explained exactly what the surgery would involve and put me at ease. The whole process was very straightforward. They gave me eye drops to numb the eye as well as relieve any pressure. Shortly after, I was given a valium to calm my nerves. Just prior to the surgery, an IV was painlessly inserted so I could be given an anesthesia during the operation. During the procedure I was awake and responding to Dr. Beers questions and instructions. The surgery took a total of about 15 minutes and after a short recovery, I was on my way home. The whole process was less than 2 hours and the post-op care has been wonderful. My main tip would be have a premium Toric lens implanted. It costs a bit more but is well worth the price if you can afford it. Thank you Dr. Beers for letting me see better than I have my entire life. read more

I went to Dr Beers for my cataract surgery and he screwed up my case big time. At the time of surgery there was a posterior capsular year which led to one eye being a distance eye and the other eye being a reading eye. Which was not my goal. My goal was to have both eyes fixed at the distance. After a few days I started experiencing lens dislocation. I was just not pleased with the results. Their was a lens dislocation which led to another surgery with a specialist. Totally unhappy with the experience with this doctor. I would request for a complete refund on the cost of my surgery. Thanks to the technician who is working in the office, named Tim. I have eye examination this morning. Tim performed all checking and testing for my eyes. He did it very careful and did all the steps thoroughly. ( I have near sign, etc. for more than 40 years, so I am so familiar with the equipment and the testing procedures for eyes). I've seen Dr. Beers for 2 different conditions this year. Both times he and his staff did an excellent job both in the front office and the medical staff. This summer I had excess floaters. The staff made an appointment for that day and Dr. Beers dilated and checked my eyes to confirm it was nothing serious. Floaters happen to people like me who have had posterior vitreous separation. Recently my eye was cloudy again. This time Dr. Beers found that I've developed Glaucoma in my right eye. He started me on eye drops immediately set a follow up appointment for the next day. Fortunately the eye drops are working and I was thankful for the quick diagnosis and treatment. I would recommend Dr. Beers. read more

Called in the morning and was able to get an appointment in the same day, which was nice. The lady in the front desk was very helpful and friendly. She was the highlight of my visit. My experience with Dr. Beers was very rushed. I came in suspecting of having infection in one of my eyes, Dr. Beers took a 10 second look and said my eyes are fine, no infection. If you answer him by saying "NO", he would ask you "Are you thinking about contacts?" and if you say "Not really", he would spend less than 30 seconds going over your reports. I was very disappointed with Dr. Beers. He is mainly interested in selling expensive surgery than diagnosing the problem or prescribing the right contact lenses or glasses. I went to his office for a checkup and new contact lenses. When I entered the examination room there was a computer playing a slide show about lens replacement surgery. After spending a few minutes with me he recommended the lens replacement procedure that was plying on the computer. Once he determined that I was not interested in the surgery he said good bye and walked out of the room very quickly!!! The contact lenses he gave me are not correct for my eyes, but next available appointment is 4 weeks out. Home Depot approach to eye examination!!! I can not recommend him to anyone. read more

I really miss Dr. Beers. I seem to get chalazions/ stye quite often on my right eye. Since I have Kaiser now, I can't see Dr. Beers anymore. Today, I had a stye removed at Kaiser and it was painful and I'm not even sure if they removed everything. I remembered when Dr. Beer's did it for me, I didn't feel a thing. I think I'll fork out the money and have Dr. Beers do it for me the next time I have this problem again. When he did it, it was quick and painless. I also did LASIK with Dr. Beers 11 years ago. So far still 20/20 and I have been quite happy with his pre-op and post op care. I only thought about writing this long overdue review because I really do miss him. I should have gone to him today. Dr. Beers is really talented as a doctor but he doesn't talk much. He's not going to invest any time in small chitchat with you. He just does his job and leave. I recommend bringing in a list of questions you want to ask with you. Once he leaves the rooms, that's it. He will answer emails online. He answered my emails while I was in Taiwan. His staff are just okay, not as friendly as you would hope but I've seen worse. read more

I had Lasik done in both eye 14 years ago from from Dr Volpicelli. It exceeded my expectation. I found out I have cataract in my left eye (double vision -cannot be corrected with glasses) 9 months ago and finally have the gut to do cataract surgery. All this time I was researching about cataract and all the possible outcomes. Made my appointment and had Dr Beers to performed the surgery. All the medical staff took care of me. Again it exceeded my expectation. I was able to perform my normal routine the next day with 20/20 vision. When my right eye needs cataract surgery, I will use Dr Beers again! I went there to address my migraines, pressure and a drooping eyelid, symptoms that are scary and new to me. He brushed off my concerns and made me feel like I was overreacting. Dr. Beers has been our family opthalmologist for many years. At my most recent yearly visit, we discussed that I had developed cataracts and talked about the various options available to me. Over the past week and a half, I have had surgery on each eye. The difference in my vision is amazing and it was immediately noticeable (within a day). I now have 20/20 distance vision which is great for my sports of tennis, golf and riding horses. In addition, the change in light and colors is fantastic. Who knew that white really is that bright and not yellow tinged!!! Dr. Beers, Paul and the entire staff at Peninsula Laser Eye Medical Group have been great to work with. My experience at the Peninsula Eye Surgery Center was excellent as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Beers to all without reservation! read more

This is not a review for Dr. Beers. He is fantastic and I have never had any complaints. This review is for his receptionist. I used to buy all my glasses at this office; however, I am now retired and was quoted over $400.00 for a pair of progressives. When I was working, I would have happily shelled out the money for these glasses. I went to Target with my daughter to help her choose glasses and realized that they carry designer frames. Target could fill the prescription with designer frames for less than half the cost! So, I called Beer's office to have my prescription faxed. The woman who answered the phone at Beers office just couldn't believe that I was buying glasses from Target. When asked where I wanted the fax sent, I gave her the number and she also needed the name of the store. When I said Target, she said "What.... Target... you mean Target?????" One would think she was having an accident in her pants; she sounded that disgusted! I responded that yes, there was an optical department at Target. I suppose I should have given it the French pronunciation of Targette. She was also accidentally on speaker phone and everyone at Target Optical had a good laugh at her snobbery. Target carries Armani Exchange, Versace, Coach, Dolce and Cabana to name a few. Not all of us have the money to pay outrageous prices for glasses and I am glad there are other options. This receptionist needs to realize that she was condescending and rude. read more

I had very bad experience with Dr. Beers. I consulted 2 times before I had Dr. Beers to do the LASIK surgery for me. After the surgery, my vision is still less than 20/40. I asked Dr. Beers how happened. He said he could do me a favor to do second surgery without charge. I asked him if the second time still not ideal, what I should do. He said it was up to you to decide if you were going to do the surgery again. Tears came to my eyes by his unprofessional reply, he simply used my eyes for his practice an experiment! But he showed no sympathy at all. He asked me to go home coldly and he needed to see another patient. His assistant used to be very polite and patient with me before the surgery. After the surgery, she did not want to talk to me by saying she was busy. I supposed to have annual check with them. But they never called me again. Here's why: Dr. Beers literally saved me from losing sight in my left eye by performing emergency laser surgery to treat Acute closed-angle glaucoma, a horrifying problem I had never heard of until I woke up with extreme eye pain. I am a regular patient of Dr. Beers, and he has been a stellar provider, but a week ago his ability to quickly treat this incredibly scary and horribly painful problem quickly and effectively was impressive. As a health care professional myself, I was concerned about having an eye procedure. I had the Visian ICL done with Dr. Beers, as I was not a candidate for lasik. I have been going to Dr. Beers and Dr. Shahinian for a number of years. The staff is always professional and very friendly and are always eager to answer any questions. Both doctors had made me aware that eventually I would probably need some correction due to increasing evidence of a cataract in both eyes. I decided it was the right time to have the surgery. So in January, I had my left eye done and then in February, had my right eye done. A Toric Lens was implanted during each of the procedures. The actual surgeries are done at their off site surgery center, just blocks from their office. The surgery center staff make you feel very welcome and make sure you are always comfortable. The procedure takes about a half hour and there is no pain at all. You remain awake but are mildly sedated. I now have 20/20 vision and after wearing glasses full time for for almost 50 years, I now only need a cheap set of "readers" for the computer. And I'm also happy to report, that my golf game has improved as well. Thanks Dr. Dan and your entire staff!!!! read more

Dr. Beers was aware that I was looking to get rid of my glasses prior to recommending that Lasik would achieve the desired results. The surgery did not help at all. I had to schedule my own f/up visits and during those few times Dr. Beers and his staff seemed fairly nonchalant about my success. His comment ' you are looking for perfection' took me completely by surprise. He suggested f/up surgery but who in their right mind would allow someone twice over to 'play' with their eyes. Would anyone expect any less especially after spending $ 4000 and specifically telling him that I no longer wanted glasses On the contrary I later went to Lenscrafters and I told one of the staff about my experience and she looked at me and said I would have told you in 5 minutes that you would always need your reading glasses. Suffice to say I had to spend an additional $ 500 on glasses soon after. The bottom-line is that I got stiffed and Dr.Beers and his staff were less than honest when suggesting that I was a good candidate for Lasik. read more
