Warning - this optometrist office will insist on soaking you for every possible penny. After getting an eye exam here, I later went back to use my VSP insurance on some new glasses and sunglass lenses. While explaining what my insurance benefits covered, they slipped in that their office ONLY allows selecting the highest level of anti-reflective coating, costing an additional $150+ above what my insurance covers. Typically there are 2-3 levels of coatings available. Next, they told me the same thing with the progressive lenses, that they ONLY allow customers to get the most premium level of progressive, which again was hundreds more than the standard progressive lenses covered by my fairly comprehensive insurance. It would be one thing if they had a lab onsite, and those materials were all they stocked, but they don't. They simply place an order with a giant offsite lab that has all manner of coatings and lens types available, and they just refuse to order anything but the most expensive option for their customers. I will stop short of calling this dishonest...but it comes pretty darn close. The lesson to learn here is stay far away from this business unless are the type of person who buys things without caring what they cost, and just signs credit card receipts without ever looking at what is being charged. You need to not care how much your glasses cost you to want to shop here. Also, this was the staff person at the desk who was telling me their policies. I asked to speak with the doctor, and was told they wouldn't be available, even if I wanted to wait and catch them between eye exam appointments. Sketchy place! read more

I cannot recommend Los Altos Optometric Group enough. I first saw them for an emergency appointment back in March while just visiting the Bay Area, and their team went above and beyond to fit me in the very next day. From that first visit, I was impressed. Dr. Tran not only diagnosed an issue I had been suffering with for a while, but he also followed up the next day with an email to check on me. He gave me clear guidance and next steps. As someone who wasn't even his regular patient yet, this truly meant the world. Since then, I've moved to the area and returned for my persistent dry eye issues. The quality of care has been consistently exceptional. Dr. Tran has gone out of his way to help me, even ensuring he had special equipment and samples of new drops for my visits. After seeing several other optometrists who left me feeling unheard, Dr. Tran's empathetic approach has made me feel genuinely listened to and understood. I am finally getting the care I truly need. Worst optometry experience. The owner, Dr Neufeld, prescribed glasses for me that were so bad that I couldn't even see a chart 10 feet away from me in the office. They asked me to wait a week "to adjust" to them. I then had to go back, see another optometrist in the office (at my request) who gave me an entirely different prescription. Long story short, it took me a couple of months to receive glasses that I could see through. I won't be going back again. read more

This place runs like a well-oiled machine. My only gripe is that they don't have one of those credit card readers that the customer can insert their card into. You have to hand over your credit card to them (in a pandemic!) and they'll swipe it for you. The person who swiped my credit card wasn't even wearing gloves. Then, they'll hand the credit card back to you and in order not to appear rude, you have to wait until you get into your car to sanitize your credit card with Lysol Wipes. So gross! Contactless payments have been the norm at healthcare facilities well before the pandemic started. Just not at this place. read more

Just went in for another annual eye exam! Dr Neufeld is professional and knowledgable as always. I am always impressed by the amount of care he put in with each patient care, doing everything single test from start to finish! He definitely has all the latest equip/tech, esp the optos retina scan! Totally worth the extra $39 to not be dilated! They can see so many layers of my eyes. I got a pair of driving glasses bc my lasik were wearing off and the quality of the glasses and lens were HD! Would definitely recommend to all my friends and family! read more

I feel a need to identify a private practice that supports veterans. Dad had his VA compensation appointment today with Los Altos Optometric Group, specifically Dr. Neufeld.. The primary purpose is to evaluate the validity of his claim. Dad lives in Fairfield and we have to attend this appointment with this specific provider, which is 1.5 hours away at peak traffic hour. Unfortunately, there is no one else in the Bay Area who is willing to do these types of appointments for veterans. I'm grateful Dr. Neufeld is willing to do this extra service for our veterans. I can honestly say that I have had a truly pleasant experience at the Los Altos Optometric Group with Dr. Neufeld. After getting the recommendation from a co-worker, I called Dr. Neufeld's office to setup an appointment. I was particularly glad that I didn't have to wait at least 3 months to get my eyes checked like at my previous optometrist's office, and I liked how I could personally set a reasonable time, two weeks, from that call to fit my schedule. At the appointment, I was warmly welcomed by the front desk. I filled out the normal paperwork and only waited a short while before seeing the doctor. Having seen another eye doctor before, I felt like everything here was familiar, from the peripheral vision and eye pressure tests to the retinal imaging and standard vision correction exam. This was nice since it felt like this office was up to date with the latest vision technology (I know this because my previous eye doctor always bragged about her new equipment). What I appreciated about Dr. Neufeld over my previous eye doctor was that he was unafraid to explain technical details in an understandable way of two conditions that I had that I was unaware of before. I liked how he was being transparent and honest, but also gentle with this information and the rest of the exam, which helps me to trust him and his knowledge. After the exam, I was able to get help from Lori who assisted me in picking out a new pair of glasses that are absolutely stellar (the office does have a great selection by the way), and it took less than a week to be ready with the prescription. How awesome is that? From beginning to end, the experience was nothing short of amazing. Of course, it does beg the question: would I come here again? Most definitely! read more

I received new eye insurance and came across Los Altos Optometric Group in my search for a new optometrist office. I called and spoke to Ali their receptionist who was able to locate my insurance with ease and book an appointment right away for me. When I got there she greeted me with a smile and had all my paper work prepped to insure a seamless check in process. The waiting room was well appointed and they even had chocolates to share with clients. I had an exam with Dr Neufeld who was professional, through, and kind. They had a machine called Optomap which was able to scan an image of my retina.... very high tech. The glasses selection was amazing. Tish and Lori helped me get into a great pair that I love and even found me a second pair that I want too. I tried on multiple pairs and they were very patient with me and in no way did I feel rushed. I've been a patient of Dr. Pesner's for the past 20 years. He's very clear, detailed, and cares a lot for his patients. He's also made himself accessible out of office hours for me, to make sure that my eye infection was taken care of properly. I've always felt confident that my family has been well taken care of and there has never been a reason for anybody in my family to see another optometrist... even though a few of us have moved out of the Los Altos area. I trust Dr. Pesner so much that in the past when my vision plan did not cover Dr. Pesner, I made a decision to pay out of pocket without insurance coverage to see him. I have had a number of well recommended and fairly good ophthalmologists take care of my eyes over the years, but most lag on technology adoption. I noticed a decline at my previous doctor's office so I looked for kicking it up a notch, and found Dr. Pesner. He gave me the most thorough and up to date eye exam *ever*, using recently arrived retinal imaging technology that eliminates for many (me included) the need to dialate the eyes, plus it provides a tangible patient viewable baseline to compare to the next exam results, which as an SQA Engineer, I see as a key diagnostic step forward in medicine. He also did the best job narrowing down my prescription closer than any prior doctor. Add fantastic people skills, rare for doctors these days, and you have a winner. Dr. Neufeld is an amazing eye doctor! We are new to the area and wanted to find an eye doctor that could fit our youngest daughter in nighttime contacts. I believe the technical term for these is orthokeratology. She was very apprehensive about doing this, but we knew we needed to since her vision was getting worse every year. Dr. Neufeld did a great job explaining the procedure, doing the work, and best of all, getting our daughter to actually like wearing the contacts! I believe he has a good amount of experience and expertise in this field. We will be returning to this office, and I recommend it to anyone, especially if you are looking for nighttime contacts. read more

(This is a little late) A year ago I went to see Dr Pesner for an exam, I was new to the area and didnt want to commute to my old doctor for an exam. Upon entering the quaint little practice I was met by a warm and friendly staff in a well furnished office. When I went in to the room and met Dr Pesner I felt uneasy, he belittled me when I forgot the list of the medications Im on - sorry that I take so much and that I had a momentary memory loss, but after my spidy senses went off, I figured he didnt need to know since I dont plan to come back. He also pressured me into getting the picture thing instead of getting dialated, he said: "I dont like to give the drug to do it." I dont care if YOU dont like it, when I go to the eye doctor I expect them to give me the drops!!! He said it would cost me an additional $70 which insurance doesnt cover and I didnt have. He finally agreed to give me the atropine but told me he had a lunch to go to and to come back - I should have told him to jump off a cliff, but I really needed this exam due to my health issues. So I agreed, came back, the assistant gave me the drops and I had to wait until he got back to look at me. The front staff is great and I loved them, Im sure the other doctors are good, I dont know. But I never felt comfortable with him and will never go back read more

I honestly can't understand why this place keeps getting good reviews. Maybe if you are a certain age. I'm young, (early 20's) and every single time I have been in here the receptionist has treated me with disdain and disinterest, even going so far as to be downright rude. I was waiting in the office today and even overheard her scolding this elderly man in the lobby. Two other people waiting kept looking at each other like they couldn't believe what was happening. Sadly, this is the norm for her. Dr. Pesner is my Dr. and I have mixed reviews. He's usually bored and treats me like a child...but today he was ok. It's just the staff that bothers me the most...that woman is so awful to everyone...I will not be continuing my eye appointments there. read more

I've been going to Dr. Pesner since I was 9 years old and, in 16 years I've had no reason to go to a different optometrist. He's a great guy and really cares about his patients. A few years ago he quickly spotted a tear in my retina in a regular checkup. I'd recently had my yearly eye exam with Dr. Ladan Mohtadi. I'd found her from my VSP provider list. It was a completely blind first visit and I must admit that I had only fair expectations. I'm happy to say that she was EXCELLENT and the exam was AMAZING! Dr. Mohtadi spent a great deal of time examining my eyes and talking with me about them. Her office is equipped with lots of hi-tech machines that exam your eyes in staggering detail. In fact, I can't say that I've ever had such a thorough and enlightening (no pun!) exam in my life. I have visited Dr. Pesner a number of times since moving to Los Altos. I have found him to be very rude and belittling. He gets annoyed easily. When I didn't follow his exact instructions (such as changing my lenses every two weeks), he became very rude. The irony in this is that I have absolutely no issue with my lenses -- it works for me to NOT change them as frequently. I would highly discourage you from visiting Dr. Pesner. Dr. Mohtadi, on the other hand, is warm and thorough and works great with kids. Front office staff has always been cordial with me. read more
