It was immaculate, and perfectly cozy and welcoming. Pat (the host) sent flawless directions on how to get there and where to park, and greeted us when we arrived. She told us all about the unit and even offered a suggestion for dinner when we asked about local restaurants (the Yarde Tavern she recommended was superb). It was exceptionally cold outside the weekend we stayed, but we had no issues with heat inside the unit... we were nice and toasty warm the entire time. We loved the included coffee and had several cups during our stay. The notes about the area and even the local water were so helpful, and I felt completely comfortable drinking the tap water. Everything about our stay was perfect... it felt like a home away from home and had amazing little appointments (like extra blankets) that made it feel so wonderfully homey and comfortable. The unit itself is gorgeous and decorated with all the right little touches. The bathroom is AMAZING - I wish I had the same at home! My husband works while on the road, so having a solid internet connection was much appreciated! Often in hotels you have speed problems, but we had none. Outstanding! And having the extra space in the second bedroom where he could set up his laptop was a great bonus as well. As you can tell, we truly loved our experience staying here. It is only the cottage that is available for guests and the price is quite reasonable. Pat, the owner, has thought of everything practical and tied it all together in elegance. The cottage sleeps 2 - 6 people and is really a super large room with a loft but part of the great room is sectioned off by an armoir and curtain with a queen size bed enclosed. The floor to ceiling curtains give a bit of wimsy to the room that is tastefully decorated. Fisher speakers are part and parcel to the entertainment system. (I wasn't able to try them out but the next time we definately will) The leather couch and loveseat were perfect for sitting around and talking until 1am. The dining room table was roomy enough for dinner and glasses of wine. The galley style kitchen was well stocked with paper towels, sandwich bags, cutlery, pans, mugs, wine glasses, bowls, decent steak knives and coffee condiments among so many other things. The palate for the kitchen is a gorgeous red, black wrought iron and stainless steel. The bathroom was roomy and had so many towels! I love that! There was bar soap, and a simple shampoo. Also decorated quite nicely. The skylight brightened the room during the day and allowed for bug-free star gazing at night. The Loft had a king size bed that was uber comfortable, an excess of blankies, a lovely mirror and a table with chairs along with a wing back sitting chair. Lots of rubber coated hangers and an iron and ironing board were in the space as well. Another star-gazing skylight available. Did I mention there was a washer and dryer along with a hand-wash airdryiing set up? Fridge stocked with bottled water too and coffee in the freezer. Checking in, we asked for our free water and was handed two bottles and a snack in a paper bag. The room card worked for checking out the pool, but not the Fitness Center or Laundry Room. Seems they're trying to convert their guests to using the app, but I wasn't interested. The room was basic. Two beds, a desk area, a ledge on which was set the flat screen tv which doubled as a mirror for us. Mini fridge, and open clothing hanging area, additional wall hangers perfect for 3 to use for a jacket and a mask or purse. The hair dryer hung in the bathroom in a cloth bag. No more mini bottles, as they had soap and lotions dispensers attached to the wall (sadly empty, as they weren't see through, which makes the staff guess at when to refill). The shower glass was completely see through, however, which causes trouble for friends sharing a room who just don't feel comfortable being THAT intimate. The courtesy breakfast was pretty good though. The star was the pancake maker, which poured out batter at the wave of a hand to cook them up fresh as it travelled along the conveyor belt. There was also warm oatmeal to be enjoyed with the optional accompaniments: brown sugar, dried cranberries, sliced almonds. I spotted individual yogurts and milk that I poured in a mini fridge. We had scrambled eggs and sausages sitting in heating trays that were refilled by the lady manning the breakfast station as we dined. There was also bread and bagels available for toasting, and I spotted a microwave we could access if needed. We took advantage of the option to check out online once the car was packed for our departure. Nothing grand, but it was sufficient for our needs.

**BED BUGS, FILTHY ROOMS, BROKEN PROMISES, DOUBLE BILLING, AND A GENERAL MANAGER WHO REFUSES TO…read moreRESPOND** Avoid the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Holyoke, Massachusetts, like the plague. We stayed here while our daughter attended a dance intensive, and in more than **550 nights at Marriott properties across the country**, this was hands down the most disgusting, mismanaged, and unacceptable hotel experience we have ever had. We found a **bed bug in our room**. We have photographs and video documenting it. We immediately notified the front desk and were told that housekeeping would enter the room while we were gone, clean it, inspect the situation, and determine whether the room needed to be sprayed or treated. We specifically told the staff that we would be away all day. When we returned that evening, the room had not been cleaned. It had not been inspected. It had not been treated. Nothing had been done. We later contacted Marriott Customer Care. As a Platinum Elite member, I explained the entire situation. The representative was appalled, documented everything, and told us that the hotel should never have attempted to place us back into a room where a bed bug had been reported. We were told the room should have been immediately blocked from use and professionally treated. Instead, this hotel apparently thought it was acceptable to leave the room untouched and send a family back into it. The hotel eventually offered us another room. When we entered that room, it was filthy. There was visible hair throughout the bedding, making it obvious that the room had either not been properly cleaned or had not been inspected before being assigned to us. So after discovering a bed bug, we were moved into another room that was also unsanitary. The staff repeatedly apologized to my wife and told her that: * Our Fairfield stay would be refunded. * The hotel would arrange and pay for another Marriott property down the road. * The hotel would cover reasonable cleaning costs for our clothing and luggage because of the bed bug exposure. * The general manager would personally contact me to resolve the situation. We were told the general manager would call Saturday night. He did not. I called again Sunday. The front desk confirmed that they had my correct phone number and assured me that the general manager would absolutely call. He did not. It is now Wednesday, and the general manager still has not contacted us. Even worse, the hotel's phone lines have reportedly been down for days, to the point that Marriott Customer Care has been unable to reach the property themselves. Despite every promise made by the staff, we have now been charged for the entire Fairfield stay **and** the replacement hotel. No refund. No reimbursement. No payment for cleaning our belongings. No explanation. No accountability. No phone call from the general manager. Nothing. This was not a minor inconvenience or a simple housekeeping mistake. This was a complete breakdown in sanitation, guest safety, communication, billing, and management. A bed bug was found and documented. The room was not handled appropriately. The replacement room was filthy. We were promised that the charges would be covered. We were then charged for both hotels. The general manager has repeatedly ignored the situation. The fact that a family can report a bed bug, be given a dirty replacement room, be promised a refund and alternative lodging, be charged for everything anyway, and then be completely ignored by management is beyond unacceptable. The general manager's refusal to contact us after multiple promises speaks volumes about how this property is operated. We expect an immediate refund for the Fairfield stay, reimbursement for the replacement hotel, reimbursement for the necessary cleaning of our clothing and luggage, and direct contact from the general manager. Until this is fully resolved, I strongly recommend that travelers avoid this hotel like the plague. There are far too many hotels in the area to risk your family, your belongings, and your money at a property that handled a serious bed bug complaint this irresponsibly.
