Daniel was great to work with. He and his crew built a large fence in our backyard. We found him to be honest and fair in his pricing and communicated well through text and phone. I asked him to provide a date for when he would be able to start the project and he gave me a timeframe but it actually ended up being earlier which worked out well. They finished a fairly large fence job in just 2 days, I was pretty surprised. The job was finished well and clean up was on point. He also provided some advice and resources on property lines which I found to be generous and very professional, my previous experiences with fence builders never brought any of those concerns up with me. Came out and was initially nice and reasonably priced. Some things happened that delayed the project a few weeks, one of which was that they would not email me the quote which I asked to be emailed to me 3 times. When we were ready to purchase, they said it had to be requoted and the price of the retaining wall more than doubled. When I asked the reason for the massive price change only about 1 month later, the answer I received was very rude and unprofessional. This, coupled with the fact that I STILL had not received the full quote via email, and I knew I had to call it quits and start over with someone else. Take aways? I never got it . I called and I was put off again . This little so called general manager is rude and refused to let me speak to anyone else . Daniels Custom Fences, Decks & Construction did a great job replacing a fence between our house and our neighbor's about 5 years ago. He was very good about separating out the cost of the shared fence portion versus the rest of her full fence replacement. It looks great and has held up well. This time, we had him repair a few panels on the other side of our fence and replace a gate. Bonus--he had fencing material in stock so there were no delays! Plus, he fit our job into some downtime between other jobs which fit our tight timeline very well. Daniel and his team are very responsive and respectful and I enjoyed working with them. These guys are amazing! They replaced our old fence in one day, and it was gorgeous, then they came back and stained the fence in about 45 minutes. Daniel came and installed a couple panels of fence for me, and a gate on the side of the house. His estimate was very fair compared to other quotes we received. He was able to accommodate my request to get the work done as close as possible to a certain date, and even came out to build the fence himself as he wasn't able to allocate any of his crew to it. Daniel was very attentive to safety and codes. When we first had him out to give us an estimate, he noticed something about our current deck that appeared to not meet code. He advised us to get an engineer out to look at the possible problem We appreciated that he taught us about codes related to decks and pointed us to the right people. This review is long overdue. Customer service is poor and the quality of work is mediocre. Cement was mixed directly in the post holes. The cement was lumpy and uneven. I had to pay my landscaper to chip the top flush to the ground. The white plastic sku tags were left on the bottom of all of the fence boards. Because my house is on a hill, the fence starts on top of a 2.5 foot retaining wall, thus making the white tags very noticeable, particularly in the front of the house. My request to have them removed was met with surprise, as "all fence boards have tags." Ultimately, they removed some and I removed the rest. The boards in the front were also installed slightly askew and the final board had to be cut on a noticeable angle - the difference in width between the top of the board and the bottom of the board is over an inch. One of the front fence panels is now falling over, 2 years later, as the top crossbar was cut an inch too short and thus didn't reach far enough to be properly nailed into the bracket on the post. I told Daniel on the phone that the crossbar was cut too short and they would need to cut a new piece that was the correct length. He told me that wasn't possible and that the wood probably shrank and they would just use lag bolts to pull everything back together. I also mentioned that the boards would need to be straighten out and was told that the boards aren't necessarily the same size coming from the manufacturer so they aren't going to be straight all the time. We landed on him coming to take a look and go from there. There was some back and forth on when he could come out. After not hearing back from Daniel for a few weeks, I called the office and made an appointment. Today, one of the workman showed up to fix the panel with lag bolts. In my experience, it is not possible to stretch the length of a 2x4 by 1 inch. He disagreed. I also showed him the boards on an angle. His response was, "Nothing's perfect, it's good enough." I told him that the panel wasn't installed correctly and I don't want to move forward with the lag bolt fix. We called Daniel, he told me that's the way they fix something like this and if I want the panel rebuilt because it's "not aesthetically pleasing", they would have to charge me. What I want is for the panel to be installed properly. We agreed that he would come out and take a look, although he couldn't schedule anything formal because they are behind on their work and he has to do paperwork in the office to cover for someone else. This whole process has been incredibly frustrating and very disappointing. The initial meeting was great, Daniel was prompt and professional and the bid was reasonable, but it just went progressively downhill. Most of the reviews are very positive, so I'm surprised that this is has been my experience. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Daniels Custom Fences. read more
