This place has taken a nose dive. The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We made reservations for Wednesday that were cancelled because the place was closed due to the roof leaking. They supplied a temperamental Keuric in the room with 2 K cups. Unable to book spa treatments as they said they were fully booked despite the fact no one was in there and there was one staff on. .???. Over 300 a night for no amenities of any kind. In all fairness, the room was lovely and the bed comfortable. You would be better served at a Holiday Inn Express for far less money. They did have complimentary coffee in the morning but if you want food of any kind you need to go in search in the town. It used to be great but really has declined. Would not recommend and will not return. read more

WeBe been there twice for a little get-a-way, and quite honestly, both visits were fantastic. Last year ('24) we stayed in the older side of the inn, upstairs. A very large and nice room; clean and plenty of room. Sadly, the restaurant was not open, as they were doing renovations and the Town had issues with the kitchen rebuild. This year ('25) we stayed on the new side, a perfect room. Warm and very clean. Modern. Plenty of room to unpack and sit and relax. This year we went to the restaurant which is a big local draw; strongly recommend making a reservation. Nice and clean, big, and looks like it had been renovated too. Typical New England fare for the Blue Hair Crowd. Prices were very reasonable. Great staff too! Both times we've walked down the road, about two blocks and got a cafe au lait and came back to sit by the fireplace. They've a very nice gift store too. Great staff and very hospitable. We stayed here for an on-site wedding. The wedding venue space in the back as well as in the glass solarium was very lovely, and the food/dining was yummy. This was during a busy/peak season, and a room with 2 beds for 2 nights cost $770. For that price, I was certainly expecting better quality than what we received. The pros, this location is very central to the downtown Sandwich area so it is easy to go out for dining options, it is a very short drive to the public beach, the outdoor space has a spacious sundeck and pool, and there is ample parking in the lot. Check in/out was quick and easy. The cons, while the rooms were clean and comfortable they are very outdated, there were multiple chips in the paint, and the layout was not always logical. For example, there were outlets on the wall at the foot of one of the beds but no extra outlets near the side table which is a more logical place to plug in your phone to charge. There was no refrigerator in the room and we were told there was only one ice machine on the first floor. There was no housekeeping service "due to covid" which did not make a lot of sense. read more

My sister and husband were visiting from Illinois. We went to the Dan'l Webster for dinner where I have been many times but not since there have been new owners. The conservatory is still the same beautiful place, just updated. It was a little dark and needed the ambiance of the table candle lights they used to have. But the food was just awesome. My sister and I both had fish (I had the special pistachio crusted salmon and she had the cod topped with lobster). My brother in law had the filet. everything was cooked perfectly. We even had room for the traditional DW hot fudge sundae...with with cream and nuts of course. Our waiter,Brian, was just wonderful...knowledgeable, friendly, serving everything perfectly and checking on us frequently. It was just a lovely night out. read more

Stayed in the Jarves suite for mine and my husbands 10th anniversary and I was pleasantly surprised! I always bring Lysol wipes because the showers and baths never get cleaned to my liking anywhere I've stayed, but that was NOT the case here!! The Lysol wipe was perfectly white, everything was so clean and comforting. We ate dinner at the bar and breakfast in the dining room and both were absolutely delicious, I was extremely happy with this find, my only complaint was the heat and air conditioning is old school and I honestly couldn't figure it out lol but we opened the door to cool down the room and we were perfectly fine. We had our wedding in February at the Dan'l Webster Inn but truly it was more like a 3-day event at the location. We had the wedding on Saturday, we wanted to have our rehearsal dinner the night before on Friday, we had food for an afterparty at the bar after the wedding, and a brunch the following day on Sunday. Totaling 4 events through the hotel. We had 65 guests and we were in the Conservatory. Along with fireplaces galore at the hotel, the Conservatory is a magical and beautiful room with the waterfall behind it, and string lights everywhere. We also had the Music room that was the bar and had the guest book. It was nice to have another space for guest to hang out but not have to dance. Tabitha and Rob are amazing. Tabitha is on top of her stuff and truly wants you to have a special day. Having Rob throughout the entire weekend was an absolute dream. All I had to do was get married. He kept everything organized, on schedule, he dealt with the vendors, any questions that came out, made sure I ate during the wedding, and kept the whole event moving. The bridal suite has a huge fireplace, heat tile floors, a wraparound porch and big soaker tub for two. The blue of the room will make your photos amazing. Some of my favorite photos are in the bridal suite. We can't wait to go back for our anniversary. read more

This is one of those places that is a a sure thing when you are anywhere near Sandwich and want to find a nice meal. Whether you are there for breakfast, lunch or dinner you can't go wrong, unless of course, you have the bad luck of arriving just behind a tour bus loaded with 50 or more people. Aside from that, the service is first class and the kitchen doesn't disappoint. The prices are about what you would expect on a quality menu. Couples will not regret their decision to eat there but families should be prepared for "sticker shock." read more

The bed was so comfortable, and they brought in a rollaway for my son (11yo)-- and there was enough space in the room for the rollaway. I recently celebrated a big birthday and my wife and I decided to go the the Inn for lunch. We have been going to the restaurant for years and felt it was going to be a good time...It was not! Well, first of all, we were directed to a room that was not familiar at all; the person moved us to a table, but we could not understand what she was trying to tell us for the only other guests were at the other side of the room and loud as can be with a 1/2 a dozen children . So, we were not too pleased. The second issue was the food: dry, overcooked, no flavor and way overpriced for what we got. The third issue is the fact that my wife is disabled and we had to enter through the main door of the Inn: well, the smell in the hallway really got us! This place is not a welcome inn by any means. It felt run down to the point that it needs to be redone inside. One star is way too much.! read more

The room we stayed in along the back side of the building where the spa was was a bit dated - Colonial style with heavy window treatments and a big painted TV cabinet and a shower that wasn't so exciting. BUT - totally clean, nice toiletries, cozy huge bed and pillows. It seems like the main building rooms are quite fancy but the room we were in personally were honestly not as well put together as some of the run of the mill Marriotts I've been to. Like I said, nothing in particular to complain about, just dated. Okay, so now on to the good stuff. Food was unreal! We were there for a company party where they had a cocktail hour with walking apps. The seared tuna bites? Out of this world. The goat cheese and beet tarts? My husband said he could have eaten a whole plate of them. The chicken tikka skewers that we were all skeptical about because they looked so simple? SO DARN GOOD. And that was just the appetizers. We sat down to the meal and were greeted with a perfect heirloom tomato caprese with a little fried basil leaf on top. So pure and flavorful. Then my husband and I had the most tender filet and mushrooms with buttery, creamy mashed potatoes, and green beans. Stuffed lobster tail and a vegetarian dish of charred cauliflower and greens for our neighbors across the table were both reported to be delicious as well. The night was topped off with a really light and well done layered cake with a nice dark fudge layer. I realize I sound like I'm being hyperbolic here but this was honestly one of the best classic American style meals I've ever had. Traditional and very well done without a ton of garnish or drama. Dining -waited over a half hour for a table after having made reservations before we gave up and left. The host/hostess wasn't even there to check us in for 10 minutes after we arrived. When he did show up he told us we would have to wait. After waiting an additional 10 minutes he proceeded to give tables to the 2 groups who came in after us who were also parties of 2. I am truly at a loss for words, it's hard to even rate it. In short, we ate in the lovely formal dining room and our food was served to us on plastic plates. I mean clear plastic plates you would get at Costco. Everything was on plastic plates (salad, entrees, dessert) without any explanation from our waitress. We all just looked at each other. So we asked and the waitress told us that there were renovations going on in the kitchen and if they used real plates the dishwasher guys would have to stay till 1:00 am to get real dishes washed and did we want them to have to work till 1:00 am? I'm not making this up. We took our mother here for her 91st birthday (she is in great shape). I had called ahead and told them it was her birthday and would they seat us somewhere nice and stick a candle in a piece of cake at the end. I reminded the hostess it was for mom's birthday when we got there. We get to the lovely formal dining room and we were the first people in the room. There is a nice fireplace with a fire going and in this empty dining room we were seated in a corner far from the fireplace, which just seemed odd. So we asked to move in front of the fireplace and the waitress was fine with that, but why wouldn't they have done that in the first place? Then, of course, the plastic plates. We all ordered dessert - no birthday candle, no even comment about it. I wasn't looking for an acapella choir singing Happy Birthday, but they could have stuck a candle in a piece of cake, right? Dan'l Webster lost a repeat guest. The treatment I received during the check-in process on my last time staying here just recently was absolutely unconscionable. My fiance and I like to bike in the area (we live about an hour away). Initially, we liked Dan'l Webster as a responsible staycation option close to home during Covid-- fewer rooms than in a hotel, you can use stairs, and there are rooms with a balcony that opens for extra ventilation. Our first time staying here in December 2020 went pretty well-- a polite gentleman checked me in, the room was clean enough and spacious. Though, one snag about that first stay-- I noticed that the woman who checked me out of the room was oddly rude and impersonable. I brushed it off (though in hindsight, I shouldn't have) and we returned a second time recently after a day of biking in the area. This second time, however, I had the pleasure of being checked in by this same woman (she told me her name was Fran). Because I don't drive, I use my passport as my main form of ID. So, I present this to her, along with the credit card that I used for booking. She looks it over and goes, "You're from out of the country!" I was floored. "I"m a US citizen. This is a US passport," I explain in disbelief. Imagine how shocked I was, having just come from an hour away from my home in Massachusetts where I live only to be treated this way! I am not sure how she went from looking at a US passport to assuming I am visiting from "out of the country" but my best guess is that she saw my place of birth listed on my passport and decided to discriminate against me for being born elsewhere, even though that makes me no less of a US citizen than she is. At best, this is ignorant--at worst, discriminatory. Having exhausted that bullet, she then goes, "Well, since you don't drive, how do I know you're not from out of state?" Besides wild speculation, I am not sure where she could have possibly gotten my being out of state from, since my reservation and credit card address that I provided during booking list my home address, which is in Massachusetts. As I'm standing there truthfully filling out the symptom and travel questionnaire, she proceeds to threaten me that, if I can't answer the questions on the Covid screening form honestly, I'll be liable for a fine. For reasons I don't understand, but that border on discriminatory, this woman distrusted the contact information I supplied when booking my reservation without any credible basis for so doing! I mean, did she think that I just made up a home address in Massachusetts and that this address just magically happened to work with my credit card? What if I don't drive because of a disability? Is that grounds for harassment, suspicion and discrimination at check-in? Since the first question she asked is whether I'd stayed there before, she knew that I am a repeat guest from in-state and that I had used exactly the same information on a previous stay without issue! What a way to show appreciation, trust and courtesy to repeat guests, huh? By the way, when I checked out of my room, a different person was helping me. I relayed my check-in experience to that person and asked if they have everything they need for contact tracing, and was told that they just go by the phone number on file! I was so shaken up by the accusatory Fran, that I proceeded to ask if they would like me to provide a recent utility bill as proof of my home address, and the very reasonable person checking me out assured me that it is not necessary! Of course it isn't necessary-- contact tracing information is a self-attestation. Shame on you, Fran, for distrusting and threatening repeat guests who are just doing their part to staycation safely close to home. We'll certainly take out staycation elsewhere! In the meantime, I am looking for a way to get in touch with human resources to further look into the discriminatory treatment I received because it's only a matter of time before something happens to another guest if Dan'l Webster continues letting Fran interact with guests. It's not a fluke, either, because she was rude to me EACH time! read more

I normally would not write a scathing review because I think it's important to support local businesses, but the condition of this hotel warrants me to warn innocent travelers whose money is better spent elsewhere. Upon arrival, there is a musty smell that is ingrained in the walls - thinking it is due to the old age, we walked in to find a view of the roof...and more roof. The bathroom is experiencing water leakage at the top, and drainage issues at the bottom. And having visited the mansions of Newport, there is a difference between antique furnishings and stuff that your grandma left behind (see third picture). Chairs were dirty and bed is questionable. There are no outlets in convenient spots, say the dresser. But fret not, you will be waken up at 4am by the water pressure of the room next door as an organic alarm. Travelers be ware, spend your money at the inn down the street located in the church. read more

We had a wonderful weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday here. I am a hospitality professional, so I always go to places hesitant about cleanliness. I was very happy when we checked in to the room. It was very clean. It got really hot during the night - something to note if you stay. We were in room 18, and there is only 1 small window in the back of the room. We tried the AC but it wasn't working. We don't like to complain, so we just mentioned it to the desk on our way out on Sunday morning. The restaurant and bar is amazing. We sat down for a cocktail around 4:30pm on Friday and both ordered Martinis. It was delicious. Dinner was in the restaurant at 7pm. I had the filet and my boyfriend had the prime rib. Both were displayed beautiful and cooked to perfection. We had a couples massage on Saturday and it was very relaxing. The technicians were wonderful and the room was very calm. Exactly what we needed! Definitely will come back again. Just as a note, this is not a modern place. It is very historical - so a very old building. That is what gives it the charm =) read more

Great little Inn and Spa in a very Hallmark Hall of Fame kind of town. Sandwich is a really neat and quaint place with a lot of charm and this place fits in perfectly. They have 48 rooms, making it a bit of a boutique place, and the rooms, while not modern, are spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have slep in, at least in a really long time. read more

The food at the restaurant is very good, but I can't say we'd stay here again overnight. There were old flower petals that fell out of the bed the first morning we awoke - hoping that isn't indicative of the cleanliness of the bedding! ... When I requested they be cleaned up at the front desk, I was told they would, but although they made the beds, the petals remained on the ground! The AC seemed to produce excess humidity as well, and gave the room a moldy basement smell, which hit me every time we entered the room. Kind-of expensive rates for a "damp musty basement" experience. ... I did mention this to the front desk. Hopefully they look into it more thoroughly than they addressed the petals!... read more

We loved the Dan'l Webster Inn during our recent stay on Cape Cod. It was cozy, and each room was individually decorated to elude all the coziness of an Inn. Along with a restaurant that has wall to ceiling glass overlooking a coy pond, it makes a great spot for kiddos with a pool in the summer. We had a fireplace in our room which really made the experience! make sure yours has one! My husband and I have booked the same room for 5 years for a 4 night stay each November. The tavern with its excellent food and the jacuzzi and fireplace have brought us back every year. A classic, colonial luxe inn, set to a backdrop of a classic Cape town, The Dan'l Webster does not disappoint on any score, and will have you coming back again and again. The rooms: spectacular, old-world decor mixed with modern luxuries - the heated bathroom tile, the oversized shower, the en-suite hot tub! The bed, my god, the bed: a four-poster oak affair, so high you need a stool to climb in, the most comfortable tempur-pedic mattress, and luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets. We got the winter romance package, which involved a lovely cheese and fruit plate as well as a bottle of wine. I can't recommend this place enough for a romantic getaway. Success. read more

I had an excellent stay here, the staff were all totally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as funny and nice. The rooms were super nice and cozy. Comfy beds topped with pretty canopies in a cozy authentic cape cod style room. The restaurants had the best hotel food my friend or i had ever tasted, in some very generous portion sizes may i add, and it wasn't too outrageously priced either. My best friend and i also took a trip to the beach plum spa at the inn and got the best pedicures money can buy (and you do need quite a bit for these, but they are more then worth it!!). The spa was decorated beautifully and every little detail had been seen to, to make it the most enjoyable experience. My nail technician was sweet and funny, not to mention talented. read more

I had a concerning experience over the weekend at this spa that I strongly feel should be shared. Myself and three others had appointments for massages, facials. They are extremely short of help, it took 5 hours to complete the services as booked. While waiting for the group, you sit in a room with others, very uncomfortable chairs, had to pay for a carafe of coffee which was shared with others in waiting area. I was the first appointment for facial with Nicole. She was personable, friendly, did not wear a mask. Upon completion of treatment, I then approached the manager regarding immunization status of her staff. She abruptly responded "I dont have to disclose this to you". The next person went in, which she did question Nicole. She confirmed she is not vaccinated nor did she wear a mask. This is my elderly, immunocompromised cousin. Had we been made of aware of their vaccination status, we certainly would have cancelled. I feel this should be disclosed up front, not only did she compromise our safety, but she knowingly allowed herself and her clients to be in an unsafe situation. I do not recommend this spa until they are more compliant with Covid CDC protocol, MASK INDOORS IF UNVACCINATED. read more

This was everything I wanted (and more) for my Valentine's day getaway. We stayed in a Jarves suite, and it was so nice that we didn't want to leave the room. I've never slept so well in my life (temperpedic king sized bed, oh my), and the heated tiles in the bathroom really took the cake. We decided to have our Valentine's dinner in the restaurant downstairs and were pleasantly surprised by the food. I ordered oysters casino and the halibut off of their special menu. The casinos were so good that I almost ordered another portion, and the halibut was really well seasoned. Their wine list and cocktail menu was very extensive and we had a hard time choosing! We were seated in the observatory room, overlooking the gardens, and it was BEAUTIFUL even mid-winter. I will definitely return and have to try out the spa. Unfortunately, we didn't stay long enough to check it out. It was a perfect getaway spot, and the AAA discount was generous. I would definitely recommend having a wedding here.
